This is a straight up and down, hot dog stand. Delicious dogs, and really great service. I had the kraut dog with mustard. Absolutely phenomenal. My lady had a chili dog. Also excellent. Don't go in expecting an "interpretation of the history of hotdogs through flavored foam" type of place. You go in, order your dogs from the sweet people working there, sit down and eat. That's it. That's the review. Great little spot. Definitely visit.
There is a place for a fantastic tasting Hamburger as the best blast of the past !! Very nice humans, great service, great ingredients!! I would give 10 stars if I could. This was on my fussiest of food days, in pain, and really did not want to eat; so great I was distracted from how I felt. !!! Dove in, wish I had gotten a pic for you!! Burger, shake and nice thick fries !
Food is delicious and serving size is very generous! We tried the root beer float and it was delicious! Staff were very friendly and nice to everyone who came in while we were there. I also liked the music they had playing really sets the vibe.
Great little place for burgers and hot dogs. The portions were good and the atmosphere felt laid back.
Legendary hot dogs at this spot. This place is an iconic restaurant in Los Gatos, theres nothing on this menu thats mediocre, its ALL great , delicious, & always satisfying triple A+
Awesome place for a quick bite to eat. The staff is super friendly and greet you as soon as you walk in. Maybe a bit on the pricier side but good quality/fresh food. Burgers were the bomb. We weren't so impressed with the garlic fries, as it seemed they used a lot of jarred garlic which kind of overpowered everything. Overall a great place!
An absolute gem! The food is cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. Can't beat the quality or price for the amazing food here. Will definitely return soon.
I grew up down the street from Happy Hound and it's still a great place to get a great cheese burger or hot dog. Clean and well kept, considering it's at least 50 years old. I now live in the central valley, and I will make the drive again.
If you're in the mood for a good hot dog, this place is one of my faves. It's a local favorite and they serve a variety of burgers as well. I'm a cheese addict, so I usually get the Cheese hound with extra cheese as shown in the pic. I've included a bottle of tapatio and a portable hand sanitizer bottle for size comparison. They also have fries, garlic fries, and tater tots for sides. The physical size of the restaurant is somewhat small, but there is adequate outdoor seating.
I eat here on a fairly regular basis and I can confirm that the hot dogs are delectable. I particularly enjoy the default dog and the chili cheese dog. I can also confirm that the malts are delicious. The fries are great too. I cannot say anything about the burgers because I haven’t tried them. I like the old style vibes of the interior as well.
I have driven by this place a million times and finally I got to try it out. I got the Kraut Hound and the Cheese Hound. Probably the best dogs I have had since when Costco used offered the Polish dog. The service is great and the vibe just feels so relaxed. If you have a chance, check it out and order a dog.
This is a hot dog specialty place - you can get krout dogs (my favorite), chili dogs and more. Lots of sauer kraout on the krout dog. I was able to order a vegi dog too. The garlic parmesan tots are also great. Service was fast and friendly, We ordered through the outdoor window, but there is dining inside too.
Friendly and efficient service, tasty food with big portions. OTHER THUMBS UP: - Grilled onions, tomatoes, and lettuce included with no upcharge - Indoor and outdoor seating available - Small but free parking lot - Onion rings are great; really crispy, perfect amount of breading, not greasy - Multiple condiments at table, including ketchup (of course) but also hot sauce - Can specify how you want your burger cooked - No bogus "healthy worker surcharge" like many other places are charging nowadays MEH: - Found out about the burger-cooking-level after I ordered; would be nice to have them ask "How would you like your burger cooked?" - Burger felt a bit bland / underseasoned; could have at least used a bit more 'happy sauce' or whatnot - Maybe a slightly bigger bun would be good, too.
The fries were my favorite, so make sure to get some, I haven’t had fries this good in a while. I got a chicken sandwich, and my boyfriend had the double burger. He literally loved his meal. I liked mine, but it was a bit plain. I would definitely come back, but I’d probably try something different next time
If you’re in the mood for quick and tasty lunch, skip the usual fast food chains and head to The Happy Hound in Los Gatos. They’ve been serving good-old-fashioned burgers, hot dogs, fries, sandwiches, and shakes at this little family-owned roadside shack for more than 50 years. I always opt for the Happy Hound and fries. You can just get a traditional hot dog or top it with huge gobs of everything from relish, onions, tomatoes, cheese, sauerkraut, chili, or whatever makes your mouth water. INSIDER TIP: ask to have your hot dog and bun grilled like I do. It doesn’t cost extra and it’s much more flavorful than steamed. I like the fact that burgers are cooked to order so you can specify the degree of doneness. Side orders of fries are huge and cooked perfectly with just the right amount of salt. Vegetarians, vegans, and the gluten-free crowd have a few menu choices too. If you’re adventurous, there are a couple of items that I haven’t tried, like the Mexi Hound in a flour tortilla and the Hell Hound with Spicy Angry Sauce. Yikes! You can order outside at the side window or inside at the counter. There are outdoor tables in two separate seating areas (one on the side and a new one in back) and limited seating inside (small tables and a few bar stools). Parking spaces are scarce, either in their tiny lot or on the street. The very friendly, well-trained, and welcoming staff keeps the place squeaky clean. Bring lots of patience if you show up at lunchtime (especially on weekends) since lines tend to be long, or just order online and your food will be ready when you arrive. They also deliver. The totally retro Happy Hound is a pure nostalgia trip for me and I recommend it for kids of all ages.
The onion rings are super delicious and made perfectly here! They have such a great crunchy batter with just a little sweetness to them. It turned out to be the star of my meal. The burger was just an average tasting burger nothing to special about it and actually a bit dry to be honest but the Happy Sauce they had made it better.
Great classic fast food joint for hot dogs, burgers, and shakes (now offering tater tots). Order and eat inside or on patio, or park and order at outside window for to go. Prices are very reasonable and hot dogs are big. Onion rings beer battered, not at all greasy. Shakes tasty. Recommended.
Simple and classic burger/hot dog joint. The food may be simple but done right. My burger was lightly under seasoned but it was delicious! My husband got the Mexiburger, which is basically a mushroom cheeseburger chopped up with onions and tomatoes inside a tortilla and rolled into a burrito. He also ordered a cherry malt. Can't have burgers and not have fries! Crispy fries, lightly salted.
This used to be the place to go my father and I would regularly get a hot dog and onion rings. You used to fix your own hot dogs. Now the hot dog that we got today was terrible. If you ever had a Costco hot dog that's the place to go. These are the things that happen when a owner is trying to get every little cent and more and save every little dime he gets and not givr you good quality hot dog. I'll never return.
What kind of burger place charge you for a cheese? Isn’t that part of the “burger”? So I was asked what kind of cheese I want, I didn’t realize it’s another extra charge! Burger was kinda wet, dry customer service but then again what do you expect nowadays. I would say the fries were good at the least!! I don’t think I would come back here again. At least for the experience I had. Just be careful when they ask what kind of cheese you want I think they meant extra charge! Last but not least way overpriced for this burger place! Nothing special about it.
