Always great service and food is sublime. Well portioned and delicious. Steak was juicy and tender. I had the cod, and it was so soft! The atmosphere is great for a quick bite with friends or dinner out. Overall, it's just a lovely restaurant.
Had a nice anniversary dinner here with my wife, as we sat down they handed us champagne as a congratulations on our anniversary which was a nice touch. Parking was easy with the bank lot next door allowing for parking for the restaurant. Our wait was very attentive and did a great job of ensuring food was brought out in a timely manner but not too close together. I wasn’t a huge fan of my cocktail, a little too strong for my liking. The bread and butter were excellent. My wife had the clam chowder and a 16oz ribeye, grilled to perfection. I had their famous “Sin” burger and I have to say it’s no wonder it has won best burger so many times, may very well be one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Finally we ordered crème brûlée for dessert. Very good, a little sweeter than usual but delicious. We had a great meal. At the end of the meal my wife’s blood sugar dropped suddenly and drastically and she ended up fainting in the restroom hallway. To say the staff were anything less than amazing in this scenario would be a lie. They immediately got her orange juice and an ice towel. They also were kind enough to listen to what we had to say instead of immediately calling EMS (as this does occasionally happen so we are familiar with what to do). The manager even came over just to ensure everything was alright, one of the employees sat with us until my wife was ready to sit back up and move on. Overall a great restaurant and very friendly and caring staff along with great food. Only complaint I have is the menu is a little upscale for the atmosphere, it felt like a weird mix of fine dining and casual. Some folks dressed up, some in sweatshirts, and there were a lot of tables in the area so I think if they were super busy it would’ve felt less like a fine dining experience. Still, I would highly recommend them if you’re in the area.
Delicious food. I had the filet mignon special with a nice sauce. My friend had the rib eye with the truffle bitter. Also had the lobster tacos app. Everything was tasty and I was not disappointed in the slightest. Yum.
One of the better dining experiences I've had in the Boston area. Service is also top notch even as they got very busy as we ate. I had leftovers...not common at all when I go to eat. Made a nice little dinner the next night. Would definitely go back here again.
Came for my moms Retirement and as always food and atmosphere was great ! As always I go for the salmon and I was impressed as always
Omg...so good ...so delicious Very friendly and peaceful inviroment
Always the best! Started with the calamari and Oxwings and you knoooow I got that Sin Burger! Had The Bear Hunter and an Allagash with the chocolate cake and carrot cake to finish!! Matthew was a top notch waiter and everything was excellent!!
Having wanted to check this place out for a while, my dad wanted to take me out for dinner for my birthday and we came here. The atmosphere kind of had an interesting vibe, sophisticated and classy. Not what I was expecting in the downtown section of Lynn! Our server was a very sweet woman. Service was very good. We enjoyed our time here. My wife didn't order any food (nothing appealed to her. She's a picky eater and it was my birthday with my dad. She got drinks, and she loved the cocktails). I ordered the prime ribeye with duck confit (omg!) with potatoes and asparagus. We had mentioned it was my birthday, they tried to bring a cheesecake slice with a candle. But.... the ceiling fans were at full blast so it went out right before reaching the table. We had a good laugh at that. It was the thought that counts. My wife and I shared the cheesecake (I only had a few bites, it was a good main course). We had fun meeting for dinner, I work a lot so it was great catching up with my dad. This was a special night and I appreciated the experience.
Our 4th time here. Always delicious. The tuna tartare alone is worth the visit. First came here 5 years ago and every time we've been back it's great. If you're into whiskey drinks, the Bear Hunter is a must try. The wait staff has always been very friendly and attentive and know the menu & drinks inside and out. Highly recommend and worth a visit even if you're not from the area.
I would like to tell you guys a story.. I’ve been to this restaurant many times..love it.. went the other day.. here are some pictures.. but that’s not the story.. Two days later my son comes to me and tells me it’s his first anniversary with his first girlfriend (he is 16) and he wanted to take her there.. He tried to use resy, but unfortunately he is under 18, so I made the reservation for him.. gave him some cash, made sure apple pay was working..and told him I’ll be near by if he needed me.. My son told me the blue ox was amazing, the food, as usual was amazing, and also gave him free dessert.. you cannot imagine how grateful I am to the blue ox for doing that for him. You guys are a neighborhood restaurant, and this is why I’ll always be recommending people to you.. Also never forget the staff.. they are always amazing and accommodating.
We loved this restaurant and the food is top tier. They were really great at asking about allergies but did bring bread with the brie appetizer after noting that the individual eating it had a gluten allergy. Those of us that can eat gluten loved the bread and the butter was so good! Creamed corn was some of the best corn I have ever had. I enjoyed the salmon dish and my partner really liked the crispy chicken. We would definitely come back.
Of all the places we could have chosen to celebrate our one-year anniversary, The Blue Ox was the perfect pick. The only regret we had was not saving enough room for dessert! The food, service, and atmosphere created a truly unforgettable experience. The service staff and chefs were outstanding, and everything felt thoughtful and welcoming from start to finish. The experience we had was too good too not leave a review right away. We will most definitely be back.
Really good food. They have handwritten note for birthday guest too which is really sweet . There is a reason this place is a decade long success. Great work from the team
The Blue Ox blends great food, friendly service, and a relaxed but classy vibe. It’s one of the best spots in Lynn…we were blown away by how tasty it was. The appetizers were mouthwatering, the entrees were amazing, and the desserts were decadent. We highly recommend eating here!
Sammy, our waiter was excellent! He was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and made us feel like a welcome guest. The special maple butter served with fresh bread is delicious. We had the filet and porterhouse steaks with asparagus. One with mashed and the other with potato croquettes. All cooked and seasoned perfectly!
My girlfriends and I travel to Boston frequently and this is now one of our favorite places! The food was amazing, the music and atmosphere was energetic and fun and most of all our server, Wade (Nate) was top tier!!! We can’t wait to visit again!
Went here for dinner prior to catching a flight out of Boston. Only 25 mins away from airport and a real gem. Food excellent, very varied and interesting menu. Sweet pea and caramelised onion ravioli and crispy chicken were excellent. Desserts to die for.. Whoever was in charge of the music playlist has excellent taste. (If I don't say so myself) Thoughtful touches in the food and with facilities in the bathroom.. won't spoil it for you by telling you what, someone is very customer focused. An excellent experience.
We came for Father’s Day, and the food was delicious. My Dad absolutely loved the stuffed lobster tail. Everything was great, highly recommend!
This place is awesome. Great vibes and great food. Our server Nate was wonderful; very engaging. He said it was his first day but he was on point with everything. The food was amazing. We left so full and I still couldn't wait to eat my leftovers. Just 10 out of 10 all around.
The Blue Ox SIn Burger still delivers. This North of Boston gem in Lynn is still a foodie destination. The Blue Ox Lynn hosted an influencers dinner and overwhelmed us with sxcellent flavors. My personal favorite was their super tender Flat Iron Steak Other items like the bolognese, Espresso martinis, Pork belly and OX Crispy Chicken also impressed. Featured: Braised Pork Belly - Scallion & sesame rice, pork cracklings, hot honey barbeque sauce Ox Wings - Cajun rub, oak smoked, hot honey sauce, blue cheese dressing, scallions, sesame seeds The “Sin” Burger* - Applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, truffle aioli, Swiss cheese - Boston Magazine “Battle of the Burger” Winner 2013, 2014, 2015 Northshore Magazine "BONS" Winner 2023 Bolognese Pork, beef & lamb ragu, garlic, rosemary, cream, parmesan cheese OX Crispy Chicken - Herb marinated Bell & Evans boneless half-chicken, sage red bliss smashed potatoes, sautéed garlic & spinach, chicken au jus 14oz. Kurobuta Pork Chop* - Grilled asparagus, frijoles charros, braised pinto beans, bacon, onions, garlic, jalapeños, tomatoes Grilled Marinated Flat Iron Steak* - Hand cut herb fries, grilled asparagus, Chimichurri The Blue Ox North of Boston
A high end, quality slice of Boston atmosphere in Lynn. The food is superb. Each plate is extremely flavourful and delicious. Highly recommend for a special occasion or a good eat. The "happy hour"apps are a must try. All apps are under $5. $1 oysters!
Excellent food and service . My only complaint would be the cocktails were not the greatest, served lukewarm instead of icy cold. Fun vibe and every item we ordered was delicious. Pear salad with fresh salmon was a standout, as were the calamari and truffle fries.
Excellent food and service. The bread with maple butter was so good we ate two baskets of it before we even ordered our entrees. The entrees were all outstanding. Our party had a pork dish, two steaks dishes and a pasta dish. Everyone loved their choices and they were cooked exactly as we wanted them. The server was very friendly and made us feel like regulars. He was spot on with his suggestions of both drinks and entrees. We had reservations for 7 pm on a Friday night and were seated within 5 minutes of our arrival. The bar was packed but the noise level was not too loud. Free parking is available in the adjacent bank's parking lot.
The best food I’ve ever had in a long time! The muscles was the best I’ve ever tried! I had the shrimp scamp, it was out of this world! And my husband had the pork chops which it was spectacular! You have to try this place! Besides the best food the atmosphere and service was top notch!
First time at the Blue Ox. Great vibe. Place was packed. Our server, Matthew was awesome! Started with Moondancer oysters and a couple martinis. Try the fig martini. If you ever get a chance to have moondancers...take the opportunity. You don't see them very often...nice briny flavor with a smooth after taste. Also had tuna tartare which had great flavors but the rustic chip took away some of the great tartare flavor. Maybe a taro chip? Also had a caesar salad which was solid and I really liked the dressing. Anchovies would have really elevated it. For entrees, we had a filet special and the pork chop. Cook on the filet was perfect and the reduction was the right mix. The mashed were outstanding. The pork chop had a smokey flavor that paired perfectly with the sweet honey cider glaze. Loved the duck fat potatoes and the brussel sprouts. Flavors overall were truly excellent. If ever in Lynn, definitely give the Blue Ox a shot...won't disappoint.
I had such a great experience at this location! It’s a tight squeeze with such a full house but so worth it. We had a reservation that I booked online and we were sat immediately. The waiter was able to take our drink and app order quickly. As someone who has never drank alcohol before, I’m appreciating the growing trend of mocktails. Moreover, I liked that they had in their menu a mocktail and n.a beverage sections. I got the Don’t Fall Over and that was delicious!! We then got the Mezze plate for an app and that hit the spot. For entrees we got the bolognese and pork chop. The meals came out at a good time after the app. Both were delicious and enough to take home for leftovers. Lastly, we told the waiter it was my sister’s birthday and he said he had the perfect dessert for us. He brought out the Sticky Pudding with cinnamon ice cream with a candle and it was amazing!! Everything from start to finish was wonderful and can’t wait to go back!
Had one do the best restaurant service ever in this place. Guy, our server, was an outstanding host and represents this location as a true example of extraordinary service and hospitality. Thank you and I will be returning!
The food is top notch! Way better than your average pub food. Their wings are fire and the best I’ve ever had to be honest. The burgers are great and steak has always been cooked perfectly to my order. The apps and deserts are beautiful and delicious also. The bartenders have always been great and the drinks are great with a good selection of whisky and everything else. Service is always there when you need it but not too aggressive. As far as the atmosphere is awesome! Very cool vibe. The price is a little on the high side but you get what you pay for and I believe it’s well worth it. I very much recommend and have and to those that I have and they have gone have all said that they love it. You should give it a shot for sure…. Enjoy
Guy provided great service, he really made us feel welcomed, the pear salad was fantastic and the burger did not disappoint. I missed Valentina tonight, she is one reason we return to the restaurant.
We have a group of 8 friends visiting Boston from Southern ÇA. We Google The Blue Ox as a restaurant close to the place we were going to enjoy a show that night. What amazing luck!!! The hospitality was amazing! The food was even better and our server practically became part of the family! Nate made sure we had not only a great meal, but a fun time, and if we could have we would have asked him to sit and enjoy dinner on us! We are older and eat out alot and experience a ton of different places. Out of 5 stars I would give The Blue Ox a ten!!! One of the best dinners I’ve ever enjoyed! Thank you Nate and The Blue Ox! Richard Ray
We just just returned home from dinner at the Blue OX, a hidden gem in downtown Lynn. We sat in the bar section and our waiter Nate greeted us with a friendly and laid back attitude. Service was excellent and the food was outstanding. Nate gave great recommendations while being humorous and attentive to our needs as guests. We will definitely be coming back.
The food here is awesome!! Our waitress Mattie was amazing, fun, and so sweet! Can't wait to go back! It was so hard to choose appetizers/entrees because everything sounds so good, but i highly recommend the pork belly as an appetizer and the bolognese and flat iron steak as entrees! 5 stars all around
Always come here for special occasions, because it truly is a special experience. The food is outstanding & the service is impeccable. I usually get the chicken dish, with mashed potatoes & spinach. It’s mouth wateringly good! Other things ordered in my group are the goat cheese salad with steak, or salmon and the strip steak with the chimichurri sauce. For dessert, try the sticky toffee pudding, you won’t regret it! They also make a great Old Fashioned. I miss them serving the CBD drinks, but they do have a great mocktail menu.
We had Thanksgiving dinner at the Blue Ox, and it was superb! The food was beautifully prepared and seasoned, the drinks unusual and delicious, and the service stellar. Our server, Marjorie, was friendly, attentive and great fun. We were a party of six and we are a pretty lively brunch she took excellent care of us. The atmosphere is very comfortable and cozy and the vibe is friendly. This was our first visit but not our last! .
The server was super nice, was willing to give drink recommendations when I was being indecisive. The food came out fast. The wings crunchy and and sauce was delicious. The potato croquettes had a really nice flavor. The ousters were so good and fresh. My party got 24 oysters and almost asked for another round. We asked for an espresso martini with splash of baileys and it was excellent. We got the salmon tartar, it was servd with house made chips that were complimented the salmon very well and ended up ordering two more. Cannot recommend enough and we will be back!!
We had such an incredible dinner at Blue Ox with my family! From start to finish, everything was perfect—but the real highlight of the night was our server, Nate. He was absolutely fantastic. Not only was he attentive and professional, but he was also so much fun. He had us laughing the whole evening and truly made our experience special. It felt less like a typical dinner out and more like a celebration thanks to the energy and warmth he brought to the table. ❤️❤️ The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great, and with Nate as our server, the night was unforgettable. We’ll definitely be back and will be asking for him again!
Had a fabulous meal here tonight. The highlight was our server Nate, who was hilarious and took great care of us. The calamari was exceptional and my winter squash risotto was delicious. We we’ll definitely be back.
What an amazing meal! Had to try the wings (as an app) + burger (for dinner)! The bartender had a custom concoction that was mega delightful!
Sat at the bar and got dinner here last Saturday. The service and food were amazing - best burger ever! Also, Andrew and Stanley were awesome and fun bartenders and really brought the vibe! Definitely coming back!
Sammy is one of the best servers. He was attentive and very hospitable. The food was delicious. The OX Crispy Chicken was tender, the chicken skin was crispy and the sage potatoes were delicious.
My family and I sat down at our favorite restaurant and had the best service I’ve ever had!!! Nate was our server on the dining side for the party of 6 for 6pm today, didn’t catch his last name. He was incredible. You can tell he really enjoys his job, and he made the night for us. He was hilarious, and he definitely deserves a raise!!!
My sister & I had an awesome dinner at The Blue Ox in Lynn! The restaurant vibe is relaxed but still feels a bit upscale, which is perfect for a night out without being too fancy. The food was seriously good. One entree we had was the Sin Burger (highly recommend & is actually award winning!) and we also shared a few apps that were all on point. The Brie cheese appetizer was my favorite! The cocktails were strong and well-made, and the staff was super friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Definitely a solid spot if you're in the area. We came all the way from Western Mass to check this place out. Will be back for sure!
This place was fantastic. Start to finish… we were thrilled with everything. Great service (Thanks Valerie) and amazing food and drinks… We will definitely be back soon ❤️
We were 30 minutes early for our reservation and there was no table available in the dining room so we had to sit at a table in the bar. Our server while very friendly and courteous was covering many tables; 1-6 top, 2-4tops, and 4-2 tops as well as tending bar for awhile. It was probably good that he helped out at the bar though because drinks took awhile to get delivered after ordering. The Bacon and Legs drink and the in house made kahlua were very tasty. Our food took awhile to get to us and was delivered by a different staff member. Unfortunately my husband's food was cold. My food was good but my husband's burger had an off taste almost as if it had liver mixed in. The creme brulee was good, hard to eat with the fork they gave us though. The tres leches cake was very dry. Other than taking our orders we didn't see much of our server.
Holy moly! Wasn't expecting this. We had a great meal. We live about 40 minutes away and was meeting a friend from out of town. I picked this place because the reviews were good and we were not disappointed. The portion sizes are large so I ended up taking half of my pork chop entree home. It was tasty when I had it at the restaurant but when I heated it up the next day it tasted even better! Our waitress was super nice and attentive. This is definitely a hidden gem! Whenever I am in the area again this will be my go to spot! We parked right out front. Not sure if it was legit parking but I didn't see any signs saying otherwise and it was at about 7 pm well after the after work traffic.
Just had a great dinner. Service was impeccable and perfectly timed. I got the flat iron steak, 34$ my wife, the salmon 32$ Portions are good, but not outstanding. The salmon was a small piece. The steak, pre sliced and good with plenty of fries, just wanted more steak. Even with the terrific, kind and prompt service, the food entre portions were just OK for the price. The appetizers are great and we should have stuck with just those for the price they charge for entres. House wine is 22$ and a makers mark was 17$. To be fair, we haven't been there for several years but the decor could use some fresh paint and a touch up. For the price you might expect sunset or ocean views but again at this price, there are lots of options close by that are at this price or cheaper. So it wasn't a disappointment, it just seemed OK and the price. I was going to opt for the ribeye special which was double in size at 16oz but at 52$ that was really out of reasonable range. It was the impeccable service and the great dessert picked up by the restaurant which was very generous but for downtown Lynn, at these prices we could think of many places, one third less, better views and good food. Menu is limited for entries but there are many tasty apps which I recommend trying especially at the prices. Thank you for a great dining experience but again, it was just OK at the price point even with the generous, kind and thoughtful, free desert.
Came for drinks only. Although the food came highly recommended. The espresso martini was made perfectly for my liking. Nathan, the bartender, was great making drinks and convo.
Since I was going to a concert I anticipated 1.5 hours would be fine. The fact that it was a very busy Saturday night and the place was packed and very noisy was less than ideal. The baked brie starter was good. The bread and butter is excellent. The restaurant is missing an opportunity to elevate the menu. I ordered the pear salad with a side of warm lobster meat. This dish was good but could have great. I would have listed it separately as a naked lobster roll minus the bun with half the pear salad. I would add either two onion rings or french fries. The wait staff could not have been nicer and the meal was expedited so I made it to the concert on time. The three stars are for making us wait a half hour past our reservation and the restaurant was too loud for easy conversation.
I am completely appalled by the way my family and I were treated last night at the blue ox. I will just list everything that was wrong: When we walked in, I was rudely asked for reservations details by the hostess in red floral dress. I stated my last name and the number of people in my reservation, I even stated it would 3 instead of 4. I said my name 4 times because she could not comprehend. My last name is hyphenated it’s a Latin and Jewish last name and I knew it would be difficult to find so I began to spell it out to help her find the reservation this clearly began to upset the lady in her floral dress. “She stated I got it, I got it” and lead us to the dinning room where the flat tops are located. She hesitated to seat us in a dinning room with about 6 open tables but decided that the table next to a service station and literally in the pathway that connects the bar to the dinning room was the perfect spot. As a CIA ALUMNA (bachelor program/food science), I already knew it was done out of spite because I know how running a dinning room works. Despite me telling her it was a reservation for 3 she still dropped 4 menus and did not remove the 4th set up. (Hostess 101) My amazing server Guy, pick up on the frustration, my table that was quite literally in the pathway but after asking if we could be moved anywhere, I was told I could not move to another table (again petty hostess), when his hands were tied he along with a runner/busser they decided to moved the angle the table was in to make us more comfortable in terrible location. This is a fire hazard please see the attached picture and violated so many laws. My husband and I were given the wrong drink order. (Lack of training on the wine list) My entree came out before my 2 apps. (Order fire?no spacing? There’s lack of training somewhere) I was constantly bumped by other patrons because of tables location, this again broke so many laws not Ada compliant. Almost had the person in crutches trip having to walk around us when there still empty tables and a party of 4-5 people walked out because the service was so terrible and it was too loud. I will say they were nice enough to take the persons crutches after seating them but decided that the closet my table was blocking was the best place to put them. So of course my handicapped sister in law had to move over while we were eating. The food was salty like their attitudes so I packed it up to give out to the first homeless people we saw because were I come from we don’t waste food. Even though I make 6 figures, thank you CIA, my roots humble me. The hostess (red floral dress) continued to do petty things, like walking in the path that my server clearly cut off after moving the tables, she took the toughest smallest path closest to the closet to run food to other tables. Petty much?
We had reservations for 4pm and were the second people in the restaurant the wait staff was arguing behind us they couldn’t make up there mind who should serve us so then neither of them did. We sat and waited for twenty minutes while people who came long after us were being waited on and served drinks. This was the worst service I’ve ever received and it’s a bummer because it was supposed to be our Valentine’s Day dinner. I’ve been going here for many years and I’m sad to say I’ll never go again.
