This place really is a hidden gem! I was kinda skeptical looking from the outside, but my mind quickly changed when I walked in. When I walked inside, the aroma of the food made my mouth water! Literally smells like delicious food. The menu is so large, it was difficult to make a decision. My boyfriend and I were satisfied to say the least with our entrees. The food was as delicious as the place smelt! Will definitely be back! Staff was very friendly and helpful as well!
Been wanting to try since pandemic and finally made our way... and kick myself for not getting here sooner... Don't judge a book by its cover...although it is located in a older non-descript stripmall, this family owned and run restaurant is a Hidden GEM... From the moment you walk in you realize that this place is different...the vibe, the atmosphere the friendliness. You are immediately hit with the smell of fresh cinnamon buns... and see Pic for why... The atmosphere is neighborly friendly... tables talking to other tables and it is this vibe that welcomes people. They do not skimp on the food either... Ordered the Giambrotte omelette. Cane with standard grits, Oatmeal or potatoes... the omelet not only filled the plate, but the mixins were plentiful. Took a cinnamon bun home as well. Service was impeccable and on point. ( Ask for Sophia!!) Glad I finally got to this hidden GEM EATERY.
The food and service are both great. It’s crazy that I’ve down here for so long and I’m only just now finding out about this place.
We chose to eat at Gem when our original brunch reservation elsewhere didn't work out. We were welcomed with a smile and the service continued to be attentive and friendly throughout our meal. Menu options weren't anything beyond the norm, but the quality and flavor of every dish was extraordinary. They make their own bread for toast and their own biscuits, the omelette that I ordered was among the top five I've ever had (I ordered it with double cheddar, tomatoes, onion, and mushrooms). Everyone else really enjoyed their food and drinks too. I would highly recommend going for breakfast, brunch, or lunch if you are anywhere nearby.
First time..not the last! Tried the cinnamon bun...OMG. as large as the plate and the BEST taste ever!! (Sorry to my mother in law who used to have the number one) Also had a chive cream cheese omelet..delish!!! Owners were friendly, place clean! It's a must try!!!!
It the best the food is so good and my mom love it and my dad and my brother and my family
OMG... This place is above and beyond A true hidden Gem The place is small but don't let the looks deceive you all the personnel are amazingly nice and really take care of you. The food is incredible I have had the best omelette that I ever tried in the past 40 years and that's a lot....
This is the gem I’ve been looking for ! Yes this place is great to eat. Looking forward to coming back on a date to eat. I ordered an egg whit owlets with a touch of their homestyle condiments. Let me tell you. I’m not going back to IHOP 😂😂. The guy (customer) across the room was kind and he offered me to try the Biscuit (🤫this one had bacon and cheddar. ohhh on the top! Gravy🤭) . Family friendly surroundings. Definitely consider going.!!!
The Corn beef hash is amazing. Love this place for breakfast. Midwestern flare
In Margate over off of State RD 7 you will find that hidden GEM. @thegemeatery is a great classic family operated haven of homemade breakfast & lunch eats. Been going for years now and never has it disappointed. Pictured is the homemade corn beef hash crack(bottom),veggie onlet(top). Next standard move for this dude is mix all the eggs and hash for the right bite. Lastly, this place makes a homemade cinnamon roll that will make you go mmmmmmm. As of late they made a special to have it as a French toast pictured last. If you’re in the area you must check it out. Laurie and her husband(chef) kill it here. You honestly find downtown fancy eats here, for real economical prices and better quality. Thank me later.
It's a small family owned restaurant in Margate. I've eaten breakfast here multiple times, and every visit has been a pleasant experience. Menu is simple, food is good, place is clean, and service is prompt. I do suggest that everyone who dines here saves room for the HUGE cinnamon bun. It's delicious!
This place is our new favorite! Everything is homemade and delicious, you have to try the English muffins and the cinnamon roll both to die for
BEST little diner in the whole area. REALLY good food. Incredible baked goods. Great owners and staff. Just go.
I’ll be a regular. I stumbled across the reviews for this place and had to give it a try. Hands down the best homemade BUTTERMILK pancakes in Broward. I’ve known Margate forever and I’d have never thought to stop here, its a rather uneventful plaza otherwise. I’ll be back for lunch! Real ingredients and friendly owner operated business. Great music playing too 😎Hard to find nowadays!
This place is literally a hidden gem. The omelets are amazing. The environment is small but welcoming and clean. And when I tell you the freshly made bread and cinnamon buns are to die for.
Excellent food, great service. It's a must try breakfast gem. My all time favorite dish is their Shrimp and Grits. Absolutely fantastic. But everything is have ever ordered was fabulous.
Wish I lived closer!! Applause to the Pastry Chef!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼She is a gem! 💎🤩 My family and I visited on Saturday 4/19. Your place is so perfect in every way. And the poise and control of the dining room shows the teamwork it takes and yall run a well oiled, attentive, delicious, fresh and welcoming place!! Truly a GEM!! 😍 My Brother will be back Tuesday 4/22 for a bunch of your amazingly succulent CinnaGEMbuns! They are so fluffy, and gooey with an exceptional crusted bottom that gives it that extra sweetness, and then with the most incredible drizzles! 🤤The homemade touch to all of it was so phenomenal! Thank you for all the hard work and the hours of love and time on your feet to give us the most delicious fresh made English muffins with a lightness and crunch matched to none!! 😁 My family was grieving that morning having breakfast there as we were in town for a funeral and I cannot tell you how much your place lifted our spirits with the warm, homemade comfort foods..we are still talking about it today! ☺️ Big 👏🏼 to everyone that served us. I will definitely be back the next time we are in town. 💛
Another Saturday morning another new breakfast spot to hit and this place showed up on my google. This place is off 441 just north of Atlantic Blvd in Margate tucked off in a quiet little plaza with plenty of parking. It was nice, cozy, and comfy inside. Nothing extravagant but inviting. Service was immediate and ordered the farmer's omelette with grits and white toast. Usually would try home fries but the omelette had potatoes in it. Now the toast initially was an afterthought but once arrived noticed it was homemade. So if they got homemade toast, delicious btw, you know attention is paid to detail with everything at this place. The omelette was really big and filling. Veggies fresh, well seasoned, and cream cheese a great touch. I was full after this dish. Coffee was refilled without asking. Service was great, food delicious and fresh. Definitely going back to taste their homemade corned beef hash bringing wifey with me. She has a sweet tooth and they make fresh cinnamon rolls!! Definitely recommend if in area. Really liked this place.
Very cozy and relaxed place to get a good breakfast or brunch. The food is amazing and they make everything in house, you can feel the care in the taste and find a true homemade food. The good music background is always a plus! We go there almost every week! My best recommendations are the Eggs Benedict and the Stuffed French Toast.
Delicious homemade food! Lovely mom and pop restaurant. The location is definitely a gem :) definitely give their cinnamon buns or the shrimp and grits a try.
Found a new breakfast spot and it was delicious!!! Family owned and run, everyone was super nice and they make a lot of their stuff from scratch. The Cinnamon Rolls came for a fragrant walk through the dining room fresh from the oven and the Biscuits and Sausage Gravy did not disappoint. The winner of the meal was definitely the Cinnamon Roll French Toast!! I highly recommend trying this place out. You won't be sorry you did (or maybe you will after tasting how yummy it is because you're gonna want it all the time 😁)
It's about time somebody did breakfast right! I don't use these platforms to complain about restaurants you got enough people nitpicking. I only take the time to communicate when and entrepreneur takes the time and effort to do it right. The Gem Eatery is 10 to 10 for me. Husband and wife team really knock it out the park, everything from scratch, the cutest restaurant with great atmosphere & attention to detail. tables Immaculate, real butter, real eggs, in house biscuits, muffins, and Cinnabons, plus real customer service & southern hospitality not to mention the food was phenomenal w/ hot coffee. With so many Concepts having/choosing to cut cost and Corners it's noticeable that the GEM is sticking true to Quality ingredients and quality service. If you go on the weekend expect awake but if you won't complain about waiting 5 hours for an iPhone don't complain about waiting 30 min to sit for excellent homemade from scratch food that you can tast. I think Quality it's worth the wait, and REAL quality takes time. So says ME. We will be back!!
This is absolutely a hidden Gem in Margate, FL. We have been living in the area for the last 4 years, but this was our 1st time eating here. We Google breakfast spots near us and found the Gem and decided to try them based on the reviews and ratings. We ordered takeout, but they have dinn in options and are available on Huber eats and postmates for delivery. Everything is made fresh to order, so be patient, trust it's worth the little wait. I had the French toast that just melted in my mouth. My husband had Giambotte Omlete with potato home fries and sausage gravy biscuits. Everything was phenomenal. We will definitely eat here again.
There are not enough stars available. We love this place! Giambotte omelette, PB&J french toast, strawberry & banana pancakes...barely a tip of the iceberg of what this place offers. Good low-carb options and carb-overload options - so something for everyone.
I drove 30 minutes for the homemade corned beef hash, and it was totally worth it! Among the best in South Florida. Crispy and indeed homemade. Worth the trip!

Finally stopped by to try their Cinnamon Rolls that people rave about. The rolls are huge and are amazing. The best I've ever had. Better than that place in Homestead. If you haven't tried them, you have to go. Also tried a Pumpkin Spice one.
From the service to the music this has been a very pleasant experience. Sophia was very sweet, the music is good and the HOMEMADE everything from scratch food was GREAT! We don't live here but if we are ever back this way we will definitely stop again!!!
The Gem Eatery – A True Hidden Treasure in Margate, Florida Tucked away in the unassuming city of Margate—a place not exactly synonymous with culinary excellence—The Gem Eatery lives up to its name in every possible way. This charming, chef-driven spot is redefining what it means to dine in a local neighborhood restaurant. From the moment you walk in, you can feel that this is not your average breakfast and lunch joint; it’s a labor of love, where everything is made from scratch, and it shows in every bite. Ambiance & Service The atmosphere is warm and inviting, striking a perfect balance between cozy and contemporary. The owners’ pride radiates through not just the food, but the way the space feels, welcoming, personal, and genuine. The staff reflect that same ethos: friendly without being overbearing, attentive without hovering. You quickly get the sense that this is a place built on passion and care, not pretense. Food Quality & Flavor Simply put, the food at The Gem Eatery ranks among the best in South Florida—and that’s no exaggeration. Every dish bursts with freshness, balance, and thoughtful craftsmanship. Corned Beef Hash: The standout star. Perfectly crisped on the outside yet tender inside, this version redefines what corned beef hash can be. The meat is clearly house-cured and hand-cut, the potatoes are caramelized just right, and the whole dish is elevated far beyond the typical diner rendition. Without question, it’s the best I’ve ever had. Cinnamon Bun-Style French Toast: An indulgent masterpiece. Thick slices of bread swirled with cinnamon, griddled to golden perfection, and finished with a drizzle that evokes pure comfort. It’s rich, fluffy, and perfectly balanced—decadent but never cloying. “To die for” feels almost like an understatement. Gem Signature Salad: Proof that The Gem excels beyond breakfast fare. A refreshing, creative mix of crisp greens, fruit, nuts, and a house-made dressing that ties it all together beautifully. Light, vibrant, and satisfying, it’s the kind of salad that leaves you smiling rather than searching for more. Final Thoughts The Gem Eatery isn’t just good for Margate, it’s exceptional by any measure. It’s the kind of restaurant that makes you rethink what a neighborhood café can be: soulful, scratch-made, and consistently excellent. The owners’ commitment to quality is evident in every forkful, and it’s clear they take pride not only in their craft but in the community they serve.

So i was about to drop a 3 star review but then i opened the box containing the cinnamon bun from heaven! We drove 25 minutes to have lunch and while the food was delicious it wasn't worth a 25 minute drive. I had the cornbeef hash (homemade) with homemade toast yum. My daughter had a florida over 75 chicken salad sandwich on homemade bread blah. Small, clean kindof hidden. Service was very nice but we had no idea about cinnamon buns until we started hearing everyone else getting one. We got one to go and Holy Cow this thing is huge and just smells and looks like bun heaven. The minute a customer walks through the door the waitress should be asking how many you want. Now i know why its called The Gem!
This place is truly a gem! It was recommended by Michele from Krisoff’s Kafe! I went in and stood at the door for a little bit of time before being acknowledged! I felt a bit out of place because I had never been there so I waited until I was finally acknowledged. The young lady (German wife- I assume) finally came over and said it would be about a 15 minute wait. I said okay! Well... I waited and while waiting the young man (Italian husband) came through with cinnamon rolls that only a “fool wouldn’t love!🤣😂”. He walked though with them enticing the customers (great up sell 👍). He said “people use fragrances for their places, he uses cinnamon rolls for the aroma there”! He was right... I fell in love 🥰 (with the buns, of course). After being seated shortly thereafter, I looked at the time- it took them a while to come to me! I was trying to figure out was it me?! I didn’t know. Sooo finally I was asked what I would like to drink after being left unattended to! I ordered a bottle of water. The young lady (Aniya?; a teacher) brought it out and other customers were attended to (for takeout) while I waited! Maybe it’s because I never opened my menu 🤷🏽♀️but I knew what I wanted had done my research prior to coming). As always! The young lady finally came over and I ordered the German pancake. She did tell me that it wasn’t traditional pancakes and asked if I had ever eaten them before! I told her yes, in Germany! She said she just wanted me to know they were “eggy!” Fast forward, they came out and were DELICIOUS 😋! I save half for my son to try (and I’m upset with myself because I failed to place them in the fridge when I got home and the egg turned them). They asked me how they were and I said delicious! The husband came out and asked how they were- I told him good! He then told me his wife was German and he was Italian! Well.. let me tell you... German or not- he nailed them!! I will return because I want to try the cinnamon roll French toast! They looked delicious as they passed by me! The cinnamon roll I purchased was delicious!! Oh and might I add THEY ARE SANITARY!! They have sanitizer at the door with a sign that asks that you sanitize hands before heading to table and I got to witness that each and every menu is sprayed down and wiped (no sticky substances left behind). I will definitely return and hopefully, I can move this up to a 5 star review!!
Great little neughborhood breakfast place. Very good homemade baked goods. Try the cinnamon rolls!

The food was good, but waiting to be seated and served took about an hour. The customer service needs improvement.

This was my favorite spot to get breakfast But on my birthday 10/11 the food wasn't the same as it has been the last few times I went. Me and my wife we have to take this place off our list of breakfast spot. Not sure if the cook was having a not so good day but the french toast wasn't the best and my wife's waffles as well. They didn't have the Cajun shrimp and grits that she likes.
An obviously popular loved place but we didn’t get the best first impression from the disorganization of the kitchen and service. 2 examples of many - My egg came out a full 10 min before the (overfried) corned beef hash. The French toast with cream cheese frosting had been zapped so was a melted soppy mess. Everyone’s meal came out at different times. Not eager to return.

Where do they think they are they can charge prices like this for simple stuff like this at a breakfast luncheonette? They think they are in East Boca? I walked right the hell out. It’s in a beat up dead shopping plaza in Margate. $9 one egg breakfast sandwiches? $16 basic omelettes? $3 plate share charges? Not when Lester’s and other spots in Margate and adjoining towns are at least $2 or $3 less on many items. Even Ethos’ omelette in the fancy Promenade in Coconut Creek is only $13, and that is a NICE restaurant.
I ordered a BLT and A cafe con Leche and it cost a little over $13. The menu said the BLT was $7.99 and the café con Leche was $2.99. M but instead I was charged $9.50 for a BLT. Obviously prices went up because of Covid which is understandable. But if I’m gonna spend $10 for a BLT I better come with a lot of lettuce and tomato and had one strip of lettuce and one small piece of tomato. I don’t mind paying for something that I’m receiving but I think this was very subpar. I’d rather spend my money somewhere else. I love to support small businesses but fair is fair
Unfortunately, I didn't have the experience that everyone else did in these reviews. And Apparently upon trying to voice my concern to the waitress she stated, "the turkey sausage is good but not everyone likes it."
