I got completely captivated by the interior design and all the pictures of the food here looked absolutely incredible. So we decided to make a reservation for one of my friends birthday here for a party of 8 and all I can say was WOWWWW. We made the reservation for a Sunday afternoon and from the moment we walked in the staff was completely on point. They made sure every aspect of our meal from drinks, to appetizers, to the main course was taken care of and we luckily also stumbled by during happy hour. So most of the sushis, select appetizers, and drinks were half off. We couldn’t have planned it out anymore perfectly. But now let’s get on with the good stuff, THE FOOD. All the sushi rolls I tried were extremely good but the one that really blew me away was the pork belly sushi. I know what you’re thinking, why would you ever put that on sushi but trust me!! The flavors just exploded in your mouth which left you craving the next bite every time. The Octopu**y roll was my second favorite with the nice little display of it being torched in front of you being a nice touch. Overall, incredible experience and I will continue to recommend this place to anyone looking to have a chill back time with friend and good food. - The Fashionable Foodie
Back Door Monkey is an absolute gem when it comes to culinary experiences. From the moment I stepped in, I knew I was in for a treat. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with a touch of elegance that set the stage for an unforgettable meal. Let's talk about the food, shall we? The sushi at Back Door Monkey is nothing short of extraordinary. Each piece was a work of art, meticulously crafted and bursting with flavor. The freshness of the fish was evident in every bite, and the combination of textures and flavors was simply divine. Whether you're a sushi connoisseur or a novice, you're bound to be impressed by their extensive selection. But the standout dish for me was the pork belly. Oh my goodness, it was heavenly! The pork belly was perfectly cooked, tender, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The seasoning was spot on, striking a perfect balance between savory and sweet. It was a symphony of flavors that left me craving for more. And how can I forget to mention the lava cake? It's an absolute must-try for dessert enthusiasts. As soon as I cracked open the warm, rich chocolate shell, a river of molten chocolate oozed out, creating a decadent treat that sent my taste buds into a frenzy. The combination of the velvety chocolate and the perfectly moist cake was sheer perfection. I could hardly resist the temptation to order another one. The service at Back Door Monkey was top-notch. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to ensure a delightful dining experience. The waitstaff was friendly and provided excellent recommendations, making me feel valued as a customer. In terms of value for money, Back Door Monkey exceeded all expectations. The quality of the ingredients and the skillful execution of each dish truly justify the prices. It's worth every penny for the exceptional culinary journey you'll embark on. In conclusion, Back Door Monkey is a hidden gem that deserves all the praise it can get. The sushi, the pork belly, and the lava cake all contribute to an incredible dining experience. If you're looking for a restaurant that will leave you raving about the food, this is the place to be. Don't miss out on the opportunity to indulge in their scrumptious offerings. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
The place is gorgeous. They have a very large covered patio to dine. The ambiance is beautiful. The drinks are great and the sushi was excellent. I would definitely recommend the place to have drinks and eat.
Great place, atmosphere was good and Friday night DJ was on point. Food was good, just portions are small.
This place is one of my favorite sushi spots in town. Their sushi combinations are really unique and they will satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Their cocktails are delicious. I highly recommend their spicy mescal with wasabi agave (skinny). Their outside seating resembles a nightclub with glittery floors, a hanging disco ball, and a DJ booth. If you like electronic music, you’ll love this place. If you don’t, make sure to get there before 8-9pm as they raise the volume at around 10pm and it becomes a tad difficult to hear. Their service is on point, each and every time. Our bill was higher than expected, but we weren’t upset. Totally worth their value.
110% recommend this spot for a dinner before going OUT out. They have a good transitional restaurant to bar vibe & DJ that had everyone in the building fired up. Older ladies dancing waving their napkins, everyone scream-singing the words to songs, etc. (this was on ladies night thursday hahaha) - anyway absolutely delicious food and fun atmosphere. 100% would come back here.
Celebrated wife’s 50th birthday at Backdoor Monkey. To start the service was on point. Didn’t have to hunt down a waitress!!!!! The atmosphere was to die for. Last but not least the FOOD was incredible! Very few places in Wynwood provide quality food !!!!!!!!!!! Must go place!!!!!!!!! Definitely recommend!!!!!! 3rd time back! Edgar runs the restaurant to perfection. Daniel our service for the second time was simply on point all night!!!
Delicious food; However, somewhat pricey. Relaxing chic ambiance.

Great place! If you haven’t been go! Our reservation was booked by Victoria and out of 10 restaurants we called. She was the nicest! She was professional, awesome and gave us a great table. We had a lot of fun here and that awesomeness from Victoria transferred over to the staff. Great vibe and great food. A must try!!

Super amazing atmosphere, the employees extremely inviting and made us feel welcome . There wasn’t any vegan options available , but lucky the chef was able to make me sushi roll that was vegan friendly and incredibly tasty. The hookah was the best hookah I’ve had in Miami ever !!! Fair price during happy hours every other day it’s $50 but if you spilt the price with a friend definitely worth it . I also tried the “Treason 101” cocktail which was a strong cilantro syrup flavor not so much of the Union mezcal which was a but upsetting but eventually I got used to the taste and finished . Due to the accommodations made by the chef and the hospitality I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi and is looking for a great hookah and a nice cocktail
Overall great experience my friend and I went on a Wednesday afternoon very chill vibe house music playing in the background we ordered the octopussy, hamachi Serrano and I’m don’t quite remember the last roll but it had mushrooms in it and it was pretty good. happy hour drinks were pretty good as well I think they were only about $7 bucks each. There is a 20% automatic service charge but overall I was satisfied.
Cute spot for a lively dinner. The outdoor area had a DJ and the vibe was very fun. The food is pretty decent but there were lots of fried things and things covered in sauce. If you are looking for a upscale Asian fusion meal for the quality of food, I would look somewhere else.
Like the decor in the back. Sushi and drinks were good. Service was prompt. Only issue was the bathroom situation. Fancy portapottie in the back was 500 degrees inside. Other than that, seems like a great place for a bite and a beverage.
It was a nice setting. A bit too dark where you can hardly see in my opinion. Food was very good but not to the point of paying that much. I find it was a bit too pricey for some items and the taste didn't give me the satisfaction that my money was well spent. For example, the Waygu hot stone was fun and tasty but it was an extremely small portion. I did like the Waygu Maki, that was definitely delicious. The sashimi platter was somewhat disappointing as some of the fish taste like it were frozen 😕.

Pro tip: the hookah is more like a giant vape pen. We came for happy hour which had interesting cocktails/food items. A Pear of Drunken Monkeys was the best cocktail out of the three. All of the happy hour maki rolls were good and came in cute steamer baskets. The service could use improvement, the waitress spent more time socializing in the front than actually tending to our table. The ambiance was sexy. It had an inside and outside (but covered) area and they had pretty cherry blossom trees and a DJ later in the night.
Tried the octopussy roll, one of the best roll i have ever had but it can get pretty heavy and sweet if eating a whole role by yourself. The wok fried rice was also pretty good. All the plates i tried were really good but the two mentioned above were my favorite. Automatic 20% tip regardless of party size is bs, plus they charge tax on tip as well so not sure what shady business they run. All that does is support mediocte/bad service. And go figure service wasn't the best...
Showed up to a great overall atmosphere - but was quickly let down by the loud music, someone trying to sell us framed photos she took and mediocre food. The mochi we got for dessert was completely inedible and I had to spit it out
The food was ok, service wasn't bad. The Dj played some good old-school songs. PS don't take pictures if you are going to disregard one of the individuals in the group.

The ambiance is good fr. The sushi is below average. Overpriced. Service was good. The Sea-bass was overcooked. The mochi was ok. Will go back for drinks ONLY.

The food it’s good and the place it’s very nice but unfortunelly costumer service terrible food came out at different times we were 8 ppl nobody got their plates at same time but this was not really the main issue one of our friends passed out ,she started ..out of nowhere feeling bad so we just lay her down and put her legs up while at the same time make her breath .. the MANAGER of the place instead of asking us if she was ok or need anything he just told us to stand her up bc the people is watching and could panic ??? Like for real ??? She just passed out , could definitely not stand up. He didn’t even knew what was going on with her and his only concern was the other costumers around watching …the treatment from this person named EDGAR who said was the manager was crazy , not friendly , without any empathy at all about the situation . Very dissatisfied
