Avis sur Katana Miami
My friends had been recommending this place to me for months, and I kept postponing my visit — what a mistake! This place is truly an experience. I can’t wait to bring my family here when they come to Miami to visit me soon ☺️ And the atmosphere itself here feels already like a family. Even if you come alone, it’s the kind of place where you can easily meet someone new, and servers remembers name of all regulars — what a warmth! Pro tip: arrive at 5pm to put your name to their waiting list, then return for the 6pm to sit first!
Absolutely fantastic experience at Katana! The service provided by Martín was impeccable – attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The food was a delightful journey of Japanese-Peruvian fusion, with each dish beautifully presented and bursting with unique flavors. The ambiance perfectly captured the essence of both cultures, blending traditional Japanese elements with vibrant Peruvian touches. Highly recommend for a memorable dining experience!
I’ve been eating at Katana for many years and it’s always a great time. The food is delicious, the vibe is fun, and I always leave feeling happy after every dinner. The wait is always worth it. One of my favorite spots.
Absolutely mindblowing, the salmon sashimi literally melted in my mouth. Everything was absolutely perfect. The wait time is a little long but it’s absolutely worth the wait.
The true sushi experience. Nothing fancy nothing boujee, just very good Japanese food. No reservations, you might have to wait 40 mins to 1 hour but worth the wait. Perfect place for a date. Try not to be more than 3 ppl. Definitely will go back.
There aren’t enough words to describe how great this place was. You can order off a menu but most things come on the boats, so make sure to ask your neighbor what’s what unless you know your sushi ;) since most things came on the boats for you to grab, there’s no wait time which makes up for the long wait. We did wait 2 hours for a table. People start lining up to put their names in before 5 and the place doesn’t open until 6. Get there early to put your name in and be prepared to wait. ITS WORTH IT!
Love this place so much!! The only thing is the wait but it is definitely worth it. We went an hr before closing and the experience was welcoming and food was so fresh!! The matcha ice cream and crepe cake was delicious
I tried this place for the first time, and now it’s one of my favorites on my Miami restaurant list. The two ladies working there are so sweet and make sure you feel comfortable, even though they are constantly busy. The food is really good and fresh. I’m very picky about sushi and quality, and they definitely use fresh ingredients. The place is casual, small, and very busy, but it's worth the experience. Also, it’s very affordable, great price/ quality! I assure you, better than other big sushi pricey places. I recommend leaving your name on the waitlist and having a plan in the meantime, like grabbing drinks nearby, as the wait can sometimes be over an hour. I can’t wait to come back!
One of my favorite restaurants in Miami. Always fresh and they are always so friendly. Pro tip is put your name on the list, walk over to Bob's and have a drink while you wait! Always worth it, no matter the wait time.
Katana is the best sushi in South Florida. Maybe in Florida overall. If you don’t agree, please don’t come here! I have been eating here for over 20 years. The price is very fair for the quality of the fish. You can spend $15 per person or $100 per person, it’s all based on your appetite and food choices. Yes, you will need to wait. There are no reservations. If you are at the restaurant by 5pm, you can put yourself on the list when they put it outside. If you are on that list T 5pm, you will be sat when they open at 6pm. If you arrive at 6pm, and put your name on the list, you will probably be sat at 7-7:30pm. Anytime after that is based on how busy they are. There have been nights where I have been denied a seat because the list went too long and they close at 12am. This doesn’t mean you can show up at 11pm and get sat. There is an awesome bar, Bobs Your Uncle, two doors down. Go in there and have a cocktail or two. Have some fries if you’re starving. Katana is worth the wait if you actually love sushi. If you love RAW fish. If you want shrimp tempura (which they sell), just go somewhere else. This place is for people who understand sushi on a deeper level. Also, if you have a large group, this place is not a good choice. Best for parties of 2-4 people.
Love the experience here with the floating boats with Asian dishes on them. As they float by, you pick the dish you like. Better grab it quickly because the other guests are also grabbing their favorites. Don't worry, they don't run out of the entrees. There is a chef in the middle of the boat run who keeps making more dishes. The prices of the dishes you pick are up on the wall. Each plate is different and has a different price. See my photos of them. They also have a menu and the QR so that you can order other dishes. They open at 6:00pm on the dot and you better be there a little earlier as the line outside forms quickly. They figure on average people eat and leave within 46 minutes so check your watches to time it right or you will be waiting in line. There is no waiting area as this is a very small place. So some guests may be standing against the wall waiting for the next open seat. You will catch on quickly. I haven't mentioned which dishes I would recommend because I never look at a menu. But, I will highly recommend for dessert their Tempura Cheesecake! It is incredibly good! The food is delicious and you find yourself grabbing more plates. Your server is very attentive but doesn't pick up your empty plates. You or they will stack them on your table so that at the end of your meal, they count up the plates and give you the bill. Very clever. We love this place! We meet people who have been going there on a steady basis for over 20 years! Super popular place! Parking is available on the street in front or around the corner. Enjoy yourselves! Dress is casual.
Incredible! Must show up to put your name down on a literal list. Wait can get long but it’s worth it! Sushi is extremely fresh and tastes fantastic. Pricing is very fair for quality of what you receive. Have been twice for 2 people and spent $75 both times un coincidentally (2 waters and just sushi). Highly recommend this place if you’re anywhere. 1 of 1 gem!

The place to go if you want to have original japanese sushi - fast and amazing fish quality! Arrive early, it gets crowded fast, but turnover of tables is also quick.

What a fun date night spot! We waited almost 2 hours & it was worth it for such high quality sushi that didn’t break the bank. We ate all our favorites & tried some new things too, everything was delicious! Staff was friendly & quick to get guests seated. Can’t wait to come back & bring friends!
I saw Ellen A Bryant’s review below and, although I understand she is entitled to her opinion, clearly, she is not a regular at Katana. Loyal Katana Customers understand that great things are worth waiting for. Katana is THE BEST Sushi Restaurant in all Miami, because it is consistent in High Quality Ingredients and Overall Value. That is why, every single day, people are willing to wait in line 1+ hour before it opens (rain or shine), because we understand the GEM Katana is. If you are an impatient person, that don’t care to much about the freshness/quality/taste of your food, then yes, please be like Ellen and go somewhere else. You’ll be doing us all a favor If on the contrary, you have the highest standards when it comes to the quality and taste of your meals AND you are humble enough to understand that great things are worth waiting for, then give yourself permission to try Katana and I guarantee it will be worth it. My Top Favorites: Salmon Nigiri, Salmon Truffle Oil & Cajun Tuna Tataki #LoyalKatanaCustomerSince2020
I spend a lot of time in Japan, and this is probably the most Japanese restaurant I’ve been to in the US. No frills, full of character, simple and excellent cuisine, and polite, efficient staff. Always a treat when in MB!
We have a tradition every week we go to this place. It has very tasty and fresh food, very tasty rolls, especially an octopus salad. Do not pay attention to the interior, the main thing in this place is the special atmosphere of the food! We recommend this tasty place, come early to take a turn.
AMAZING! Everything was good, the food incredible staff very very nice we will come back for sure! A little refreshing will be very good :)
Mika is the absolute best, you would think she owns the place. If I could give more than 5 stars for service I would gladly do It. Food is an incredible value. Delicious and fairly priced. The wait is usually an hour but it’s well worth it. No reservations accepted. Restaurant opens at 6pm. Try to sign up by 5:15pm.
Katana is the place where the waiting time it is worth it, the food you can feel it fresh, good combinations, is more like traditional Japanese cuisine, you have the boats going around with the food but also you can order a la carte, the tempura banana is very good, the only advice is to put more often the seafood salad on the boats, is one of the reason because I'm going.
Fantastic!! We loved it! This is not very Miami because it is not pretentious and food is really good, I mean quality is good and prices very reasonable. Of course you can find better sushi somewhere else but prices are going to be 5X minimum. So value for money totally worth it. I also liked the boat-belt thing very Japanese. If you want a seat in the first round be there 15 min before 18:00 or wait an hour.
this place is hands down the best food i’ve ever had!! staff was amazing, ambience amazing. had to wait a bit but that was no issue at all. 1000% worth the wait. i love this place DOOWWNNNNNN
I drive an hour and then wait….why? Because I love Katana. I’ve been going to this place for 16 years and I go every time I get a chance. If you want fancy, mayonnaise loaded, south beach or Brickel style overpriced and low quality sushi, do not come here. This place is the best hole in the wall authentic sushi place I’ve been to, and I started eating sushi 35 years ago. Now, do us all a favor and keep this place a secret!
This is the bestest, freshest most delicious fish in town. The yellow tail is out of this world. Prices are super fair, especially for Miami! It’s worth the wait
The best sushi place in Miami Dade! As someone who eats in high end sushi places, this place never failed. The sushi is fresh and if you love sashimi and nigiri it’s the best place to eat blu thin tuna for a decent price. Although it’s not a fancy place, you can enjoy a great meal as if you ate in a top sushi place. The prices varies, so if you like sashimi it’s the best value for money. The alcohol also is inexpensive, the only problem is the waiting time for a table… but it worth the wait!
I had an unforgettable experience at Sushi Katana, not only because of the delicious food but also because of the incredible honesty and kindness of the staff. During my trip to Miami in July, I accidentally left my wallet at the restaurant and only realized later, thinking it was lost forever. Almost two months later, thanks to a kind customer who connected with me through social media, the restaurant contacted me and returned my wallet with everything inside – including a large amount of cash and all my cards – completely intact. I am beyond grateful for their honesty and the effort they made to reach me from so far away. This kind of integrity is truly rare and deserves recognition. On top of that, the sushi was amazing – fresh, flavorful, and one of the best meals I had in Miami. I highly recommend Sushi Katana not only for the food but for the outstanding people who work there. Thank you again for everything!
One of my favorite restaurants in Miami. Sometimes there is a long wait, but you can put your name on the list and grab a drink next door at Bob’s! 😊
This place blew my expectations out of the water! My husband and I tried it after hearing great things! Yes, the restaurant is very busy, and not very big! But, the service, the food, and the beer were all perfect! The plates are color coated letting you know the price. No plate is over $3.50! The beer was authentic Japanese beer and was fantastic! This will absolutely be a common stop for us!
Amazing sushi! There’s only like 20 seats in this place and no reservations, so get there early, put your name on the list and plan to wait. Best for parties of 1-2 people. Group of 3 or more, good luck on that wait!
such a fun little dining experience! the food & service were great. the way you pick up your food from the little boats is such a fun activity! definitely recommend going. the wait times might be a lot but i think its worth grabbing a drink at the bar next door and then going to eat. cant wait to come back! thanks for a great experience
This place was amazing! It's an amazing Japanese experience. I love sushi so it was a must to try it out. Food was fresh and delicious, the creativity to take the sushi or dish you want, is very cool. Cons – The place is REALLY small so they don't have like a lot of seats, so you probably will have to wait a lot to eat here (I waited with my fiancé 2 hours... we didn't know we could leave our names and go do something else and then return). Basically what they do is they take your name + number and they will call you when it's your time to seat. After all, trust me, waiting 2 hours for Katana was totally WORTH IT! We loved it and we are definitely going back with my fiancé! ❤️
My friends and I have a name for this restaurant: little boat sushi. It’s really creative that they put the sushi on the little boat and you make them flow. You can pick whichever you want from the little river, which makes eating sushi more interesting. Speaking of the sushi itself, it’s decent. Please note that this restaurant is really popular. In other words, YOU NEED TO WAIT FOR A LONG TIME. So I would suggest you to go to the restaurant earlier, take a number, then take a walk, and then come back to eat.
Best piece of advice I can offer is if you’re hungry you need to arrive before they open and form a line of sorts. If you wait until they fill the 35 or so seats then be prepared to wait at least an hour. You will be added to a waitlist and will text when your table is ready. It’ll then be a perfect opportunity to walk two doors down to Bob’s your Uncle for a cold beverage and a friendly chat with the bartenders or meet a new friend. Note on door states to limit your dinner to 75 minutes for common courtesy. Now the sushi is amazing and fresh and comes along on boats. You simply grab the tiny plate of your desire. When you empty your plate stack them in the side. We saw a couple that had at least 15 plates stacked for each! When you’re ready to leave you place up above your seat on a shelf. Each color plate dictates the price. The saki was delicious too! You can also order from a menu. I am upset I didn’t get a single picture of our food!!!
This place is a gem! Be prepared to wait as they don’t take reservations and they are full every day of the week! The staff is committed and hard working. Prices are unbelievable for the quality of sushi they serve! Is our once a week go to. Sake and beer prices are extremely good to, sake starts at 2 dollars 90 and wine cost 4 usd.
Great ambience. Service was A+. Could improve the speed food comes out.
We visit Miami multiple times a year and a must stop is always Katana. There may be a wait, it's pretty much expected, but you can put your name on the list and can go have a beer at Bob's next door. Trust me, the wait is sooooo worth it. Mika is always charming and friendly, and remembers me every time, "Justin!" The sushi is always fresh and delicious and I always enjoy the Tempura Fried Cheesecake! This last visit we went on Sunday and Tuesday. Strongly recommend!
It's a very nice place, and I'm happy to visit it periodically. Very tasty sushi.
Katana. 10 years coming here and it never disappoints. If you’re ever in south miami beach and in the mood for a trendy delicious sushi experience come here. Fresh sushi and sashimi. I mean fresh. Come early because it’s a small place and it fills up quickly so if you’re starving don’t expect miracles in sitting. You have to wait specially during the weekends. Absolutely delicious. The cheff is very accommodating and the manager does a great job at keeping costumers happy even during the moments when it is crazy packed. Lovely place. Great sushi.
Simply excellent restaurant. The atmosphere is unique, and even if there's a slight wait, it's well worth it for the value for money on offer. Whether it's the raw sushi fish, the Japanese specialties or the à la carte hot dishes, the quality is top-notch, thanks to the team who work hard all evening to offer a unique experience at an affordable price. The plate and boat system adds a fun dimension to the restaurant, so I can't recommend you enough! Ps: I'd recommend the Udons, a dish that slips easily between sushi and dessert.
Delicious and great pricing. Got there around 6:15 and it was already pretty full of people. I noticed people who are out of towhees/tourists are pretty courteous of how long they stay, the locals take there time lol. Food is fairly priced and delicious. Definitely would go here again. Great staff too and plenty of parking.
Top 3 spots in Miami to go for proper Japanese cuisine! Been coming here for at least a decade and this is one of Miamis best kept secrets. They never skimp on quality or proper service and not many places offer you such an intimate and intentional space. Only “downside” is wait time can be anywhere from 20 minutes to over 2 hours but with Bobs Your Uncle next door, it’s essentially ritualistic to put your name down, go back to bobs and have a couple of drinks while you wait. As soon as you’re sat you’re met with boats floating by with already prepared dishes for your grabbing. You’re then Offered a cold beer or warm sake and your dining experience is fulfilled!
Best team, best restaurant since 1993. the line is long but if you wait at Bob’s (the bar next door), it’s an exciting fun time!! Thank you!!
Katana is like the best little hole in the wall you’ll ever find. The wait could be around an hour around dinner time, but there’s a lovely little bar next door to hangout and pass the time. The staff is so nice and the sushi is super good and authentic! So fresh. 10/10 would go here again. The little boats in the river are so much fun. You grab what you think looks good and that’s the best part!
Tuesday Jan 6th waited for 50 mins. Worth every min, we loved the experience, the servers, the chefs and the whole environment. Ive been coming here for years and not even once dissapointed! I love the staff they all so genuine and grateful to see everyone! <3 katana
This place has been a classic for my family since I was very young, we’ve always call it ‘the little boats’. Yesterday I went after long time without going and everything was as fresh as it always is. The waiting tends to be long but I swear it’s worth it, what I would recommend you is seating down in the bar next door, get some drinks and wait for it. The experience is awesome and prices are just too goles do be true. We were 4 and payed $74.
This hole in the wall is amazing! Lined up outside 15 minutes prior to opening. If it was not for the rain there would have been a line down the block. As it opened people poured out of their cars. The place was packed immediately. Service was fast and efficient. Food was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is very unique and well done.
I've been very curious to try Katana for some time after several friends' recommendations. We came around 5:23 pm just to see where the place was and where we could park and got a surprise went we notice there was a line already! Even though it was pouring the line kept growing so we decided to get in line too, I mean if people were willing to do a line for that long it must be some very special sushi. After a lot of waiting, the restaurant finally opened. Is a very small place so be prepared to wait if you can’t be seated on the first round. BRW the public parking behind and in front of the restaurant is free after 6:00 pm. Don't let the long wait discourage you! It's worth it! This is by far one of my favorite places I've been in Miami. Some of the best sushi and sashimi I've had in a long time. So fresh! The best sushi rice I have ever eaten! And the fish was so fresh!!! I normally dip a few of my sushi rolls in soy sauce, but not this time! It didn't need it!! Perfectly made! The wakame salad was amazing too!!!! All the food was so good that I forgot to take pictures of all the plates we ate! Truly delicious! The staff is also really nice. Meeka and Yumi are truly the best!
Worth the wait. Very unique experience and excellent sushi. However, I give one point off for service because they only had one sushi chef making nigri and sashimi, which meant that these items came out slowly, and since he would make a bunch at the same time, there was a lack of diversity. I also give one point off for atmosphere because of the small location, and a ton of people waiting in line meant that people were lined up against the walls right behind where you are sitting, staring at you and waiting while you ate. Somewhat uncomfortable.
Love the experience! And got to try Uni for the first time. Everything was so fresh and delicious! Service was great, staff is very kind and attentive 😍 I will definitely go back soon. Keep in mind that there’s only 25 seats available so you might have to be added to a wait list.
My favorite spot in Miami. It’s very rare that you will find great value, quality, service and ambiance all in one place. Katana reminds me of the mom and pop restaurants I frequented back when I was living in NYC. The wait time is worth it, check out Bob’s next door for a drink while you are on the electronic waitlist. Add yourself right when reservations open at 6:30 to guarantee a spot for the evening and pay attention for the alert that your table is ready! This place is a local hidden gem that has gained even more popularity due to write-ups in local media. I try to be respectful and realistic regarding party size since it is a small place. I have, on occasion, had a party of 5-6 people and made sure to add my name as early as possible. It is more realistic to go with smaller parties of 2-3 to get faster seating. The sushi, sashimi and rolls are consistently fresh and tasty. Their hot foods like chicken katsu don and udon are also spectacular. Don’t forget to save room for hot sake and dessert! The banana tempura is our favorite and a must have each time.
Best sushi spot in Miami I’ve experienced so far!!!! Prices are unbeatable and the quality is great. Love coming here whenever we’re in town. We always make it a point to go back to Katana.
Katana is a good time for a date night. It’s a bit of a tight space and the wait time can sometimes be a while, but I think it’s worth it. The boats concept is neat/cool where you get to pick your sushi/sushi roll, and the sushi is made right in front of you. There’s a wide variety of options, and they bill you at the end based on which plates you grabbed. Everything tastes fresh/yummy. The dessert options are also really good. It’s a great spot for locals to walk to and then walk to Bob’s afterwards for drinks. I’ve come to Katana many times, this establishment has been opened for years and it’s a spot I’ve recommended for just as long. I used to come here as a young teen, I enjoyed it then, and I still enjoy it now. I recommend for a cozy and pleasant dining experience
Kata is always an amazing experience. The food is incredibly delicious, fresh, and full of flavor—every dish is outstanding. The service is exceptional, especially thanks to Mika, who always takes such great care of us. We truly appreciate her kindness and professionalism. We will keep coming back always — the Toro & Akami guys!
Legendary spot. Must try. Great atmosphere, fun little boat carrying delicious dishes around. BUT be there early and put your name on the list before it even opens to avoid waiting for too long.
Service was fantastic, fast and friendly. The food was wonderful and a wide verity of choices. Easy to figure out cost in a very unique way of dinning.
I'm from New York and I can honestly say this place has great Sushi for a very reasonable price. Very authentic, a hole in the wall in the best way possible. The boats with the sushi gives it a very unique experience. The place was super busy on a Wednesday and the wait was about 40 minutes. We went next door for beers while we waited and it was worth the wait. Food was delicious, the ginger and wasabi was fresh as well as all the sushi. Service was tough love with lots of smiles, because they are so busy ! Over all 10/10 amazing experience!
The concept is great, and the prices are reasonable. Although the sushi portions are a bit on the smaller side, the rotating sushi is tasty. The place itself is enjoyable, but since it’s small and the demand is high, you end up waiting quite a while. If they can find a way to solve the waiting issue, it could become an even more enjoyable spot.
I was very skeptical about this place at first due to the long wait time. The food was so amazing though. It was honestly very affordable and absolutely delicious. The place is packed and there is a really long wait time but I assure you its worth the wait. The staff was super nice and honestly i really loved my experience there. I will be coming back soon.
Tuesday Jan 6th waited for 50 mins. Worth every min, we loved the experience, the servers, the chefs and the whole environment. Ive been coming here for years and not even once dissapointed! I love the staff they all so genuine and grateful to see everyone! <3 katana
The concept is great, and the prices are reasonable. Although the sushi portions are a bit on the smaller side, the rotating sushi is tasty.
It was a beautiful evening for sushi. We put our names and numbers down and wait for a call. The call came within 10 minutes. It does take longer most times. It was time to dine. We got seated as the little boats came around on the water trail we took our favorites. This was an awesome experience. You have to try it out. Good was delicious. The servers were awesome. Call you by your first name. 10/10 experience. Cheese cake temporas awesome.

Katana is great for a night out with a small group. They don’t take reservations so arrive, grab sake and enjoy the wait. I love their variety of sushi while also having a menu. the small plates are great for trying a little of everything without feeling guilty. Best meal for your buck in town!
Restaurant is very good for the price, interesting how the food goes around on a conveyor of boats. I feel like they could of had more variety as they would make the same roll on the inside but then just topped with something different. I would go again but not as many times in a year if it was not changing. But overall I did enjoy the food
This is my 2nd time visiting Katana and I'm still pleased with the food. Small eatery with various dishes floating by on small boats. The color of the plate indicates the price of the dish. Prices Range between $2 to $9. Here are some useful info : 1. You can find the price/color legend on the wall to your left when you enter. 2. They do not take reservations so you have to just show up. Sometimes there is a line to get in outside so make sure your not. starving. Which leads to you being "hangry". 3. If there is a wait grab a cocktail or beer at Bobs while you wait there pretty cool in there. And you can get it to go. 4. Do get dessert. I had fried ice cream and I heard the fried cheese cake is good. Stay hungry my friends!
The restaurant is small, so be ready to wait if you go. There's always a wait time. The food is pretty good, and they have options that you can grab from the river. Also, there's a menu where you can directly order from the servers. All the plates that I ate were very good, and all the sushi tasted it fresh. The restaurant looked dusty.
My friend Taras show me the spot Since that day it became one of my favourite Japanese spots in Miami Place is always busy they don’t do reservations so most of the time you have to wait If you look up, you can see a lot of Dust which is also not something super cute at my opinion But what I can tell if you like to save money and have good quality of fish and see one of the oldest Japanese spots in Miami that’s the place
Service - Friendly staff. They offer you water or drinks while you wait in line (which can take +30min if you go after 6pm). Both guys are helpful Food - Def worth the wait - Sashimi and Shrimp Tempura ($4.90) are my favorites Price -Super Cheap. Plates on the "boats" go from $1.90 to $3.90 I give them only 4* cuz I think place needs a DEEP clean 🙊
Awesome sushi restaurant! Staff was super friendly. Food was top quality. The gimmick of sushi boats floating by that you can grab was a fun experience. Very limited space to sit. Super long wait time. They are right next to a cigar bar so waiting outside is filled with smoke. I definitely recommend this establishment. Worth the wait. Not cheap but surprisingly fair priced.
Went around 7 PM, and had to wait 2 hours for great vibes and really good sashimi. The fish was really fresh, but we noticed that they gave us very little rice so that we would get more plates. The prices could rack up pretty easily. The tempura cheesecake was interesting, and it came with chocolate sauce and ice cream. The staff were really hard working because the restaurant is super busy.

I finally got a chance to take my girlfriend to Katana for a dinner date as we have tried dining here on several occasions but they're constantly at max capacity. It's a unique venue as it only has seating for about 20 people. The sushi selection is plentiful, although, the quality of the sushi could have been better but you can also order from their regular food menu. Overall, I give them a 4. Katana has the potential to become a 5, but between the long wait time to be seated and the mediocre sushi quality, I have to go with a 4. I would've liked to see more of the expensive sushi plates $8+ going around the sushi river. I recommend visiting.
So the concept (boats) is making this place worthwhile. I absolutely loved how there are floating boats and you can pick whatever you like. This is 1) extremely practical with 0 wait time, and 2) you can see the stuff before you “buy”. However practicality is also questionable due to the looooooong wait time!! Although the place opens ar 6PM, they put the paper that you can write your name and get into the line around 5. So if you arrive later then 5:30PM you are doomed!! The place only has 27 seats and the line get pretty long pretty quick. We went there around 5:30 and were in the restaurant around 7, yikes! Also the taste wasn’t anything exceptional. It was just okay. So that meaning said, no I will not be going again but I also enjoyed the experience. Also side note I smelled like fried food when I went home (the air conditioning of the place needs improvement)
My sisters and I have been very curious to try Katana for some time after several friends' recommendations. We came around 5:23 pm just to see where the place was and where we could park and got a surprise went we notice there was a line already! The restaurant opens at 6 pm at closes at 11 pm ( Monday through Sunday ) We found a parking lot just behind the restaurant ( $1 per hour and after 6 it’s free) just have to make a right and it’s there! There are also a few parking spots in from of the restaurant but they were all taken ( people who are used to going there and making turns between the line while waiting) Thankfully we have water and umbrellas in the car to make the line but to be honest, it will be a good idea for the restaurant to have at least some chairs and umbrellas for their customers while they are waiting, currently, the heat is unbearable even for locals! Once they open there is a nice guy who gives numbers to customers ( the place is tiny and only has 25 seats, you can wait inside but there’s no place for seating) and asked for your name and phone number so they can call you when it’s your turn ( it would be nice to have an app to make a reservation and received and message 😉) *** ( see the note at the end) Is a very small place so we have to wait for one hour to be seated but a least this time we were inside with A/C! The place is a little bit outdated but everything is clean including the restrooms. It has a rotary sushi bar, there is a chef in the middle making the most amazing sushi we’ve ever tried, now I understand why people make lines to get in! The hot delicious appetizers also came from the kitchen to the rotary bar. You can grab the plates you like ( each one has a price) or you can order from the menu ( there’s a QR code on each table) Katana has by far some of the best sushi and sashimi we’ve had in a long time. So fresh! The best sushi rice we have ever eaten! The staff was also really nice. 10/10 we would go here again maybe after the heat comes down a little bit. *** I found out yesterday, that From this Monday 25th July, they are getting a digital waitlist for their customers so you can make an online reservation!! This is fantastic!!! The link and information would be available on their site and Instagram.
As a long time customer, I just wanted to give the owner my opinion on the changes I've experienced over years at Katana. The service used to be excellent but that has changed. One of your long time employees is the WORST, I've ever encountered at a restaurant. He is rude, bulling and just plain mean. That attitude has affected your other great employees IMO. I use to go every week and wait before 5 pm to get a seat and really enjoy the vibe and made friends with many of your customers and always enjoyed my experience there. Now I've lost my desire to return. And those friends I've met there, that are also long time customers, feel the same. I feel that Katana has lost its 'soul'. Find someone else to seat and wait on your customers and put him in the kitchen, since I know you're loyal to your employees, but be loyal to your customers first. Also, the prices just keep going up to the point where I'll go to another place that takes reservations, is super clean inside, has better prices and employees that respect their customers. I'm changing my rating from all 5 stars to reflect my opinion. And I've been waiting to find a forum where I can tell you this, since I've never seen you at the restaurant. Maybe it's time for you to start going in person. Oh and I've been eating Sushi in Miami since Chika opened Su Shin in the Grove in the early 70's, so I'd pay attention to what I say.

This place was recommended by locals. They said get there early there’s always a line outside. They weren’t wrong. We waited…. The hostesses/waitresses were very rude. They act like you are inconveniencing them. And their only goal is to rush you in and out as fast as possible. Katana gives off “soup nazi” vibes - -Seinfeld. It was not worth the wait. Katana is basically gas station quality sushi rolls that get served on a boat the comes floating down a river that goes around the restaurant. Cool idea. But the sushi and fish was terrible. Don’t waste your time or money here there are way better restaurants in Miami Beach. “Response to reply from Katana” The 75 min limit is the least of your problems. And I don’t think I was there even 45 mins. Your sushi/food is terrible and the waitstaff is rude and un-accommodating. Work on it.
I consider this a one-time visit spot. Despite many positive reviews, it isn't anything particularly remarkable. To get in, you need to arrive an hour before opening and sign up on a list with your name, phone number, and party size. We arrived 20 minutes early and found about 70 people waiting ahead of us. There’s no waiting area; you’ll stand outside. Customer service is quite poor-they seem to have enough customers and don’t care if you stay or leave. Inside, space is limited, and food is served via small boats crossing the river. The water looks dirty, similar to a tank, and dirt can be seen on the tables and around the food. Most boats are empty, so you just take what appears; there’s no option to choose specific items unless you place a separate order. The restaurant is very small, probably fitting 25-30 people. I waited 2 hours to get in, had 15 plates, and spent over $77, not including tip. Next time, I’d prefer a buffet with the same quality but less hassle. It’s just a place, and I don’t understand why people line up here. If I had a choice, I’d say don’t go.
The mediocre quality of this food is not worth the wait. We arrived at 5:20 PM to write our names on their waitlist and were not called to be seated until 6:40 PM on a Saturday. The fish is decent for the price point. However, the sushi rolls kept falling apart. The boats are cute but because there was only one chef working, most of said boats were empty. We ended up ordering mostly from their standard menu. Unless you live nearby, write your name at 5 PM on their waitlist, and simply want cheap / mediocre sushi - this should be a hard pass.

I was on the waitlist and never got to eat here. They skipped our names and called other people, the hosts were extremely rude. Instead of apologizing for misinforming on the wait (which was approximately 45 minutes and then they added another 45 minutes) they kept trying to say it’s the line we don’t control it. If you don’t control the line then don’t give an estimated wait time. But hey! If you’re looking to bring your dog or eat with dogs that aren’t service animals come here. I’ve got dogs but I’m not bring them to enclosed place of business. And if you like being insulted by “wannabe” Y2K girls and “woke” folks who don’t know what happened come here.
Very disappointed with the hostess, Nadia. We were on the waiting list, received a call, and arrived within 4 minutes — yet she claimed we didn’t respond and made us wait again. She then sent us outside in very windy, unpleasant weather. The attitude was rude and completely unprofessional.
