We came here as a family and had a really enjoyable meal overall. The portion sizes are huge — especially for the pork ribs from kids menu, which were massive and definitely good for sharing. The meat was tender and flavorful, though a bit on the heavy side. The can can pork chop were juicy inside and crispy outside, and very satisfying, and the tacos were surprisingly good too. We also tried the chips, rice and fried croquettes, which were nicely done. My child loved the mini burgers, and it was great to have options that worked for both adults and kids. Service was friendly, and food came out a bit slow, considering how busy it was. Great place for a casual family meal with generous portions.
Metropol delivers a strong all-round experience. The food hits hard—authentic flavors, generous portions, and consistent quality. The service is warm, attentive, and fast, even during peak hours. The atmosphere is clean, cozy, and inviting, making it ideal for family dinners or casual meet-ups. Price leans slightly premium for the area, but the quality justifies it. If you want a reliable spot in Isla Verde that doesn’t miss, this is one of the safest picks. Would return without hesitation.
I was on vacation and my friend recommended we meet here for dinner. I had the fried red snapper and red beans and rice. I enjoyed the fish. But the red beans and rice had a bit too much salt. My cheese cake was delicious. We sat their for over three hours talking and enjoyed the atmosphere.
Metropol in San Juan is a great spot for delicious Puerto Rican cuisine. The food was flavorful and very well prepared. I ordered the half chicken, which was juicy and seasoned perfectly, and my friend had the shrimp mofongo—both were excellent. Portions were large and very filling, making it a great value. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in San Juan! 🇵🇷✨
We arrived early at the airport and were hungry. This restaurant had sit down seating along with a bar area. We had breakfast and it hit the spot. The coffee was good and I had a grilled cheese served with fries. My girlfriend had some oatmeal which she really enjoyed. The service was really good and we enjoyed being able to relax and eat.
This place was great! Bit of a corporate vibe to it….I believe they have about 8 locations around the island, so not your typical Mom and Pop joint. This place gets busy and loud….you can tell it is very popular around the city. We ordered the Shrimp Empanadas (9/10), Stuff Cornish Hen with Congri and fried plantains (9/10), the Churrasco Skirt Steak with PR Rice and Sweet Plantains (6/10 - note my wife discovered she’s not a fan of skirt steak so this score is a little skewed), and a Pina Colada (9/10)! Would absolutely return!!!!!
Very local sit down restaurant in San Juan. I had the mofongo with shrimp in the creole sauce which was excellent. I would like to try a lot more. The dishes that I saw go by all looked delicious and well presented. The service was efficient and pleasant and I loved that you can take your time they don’t try to rush you out. I need to remember to take pics before digging in! 🤦🏻
Dine with the locals. Whenever we travel, this is what we prefer. There were also tourists but this place is a must. The menu is expansive but the server gave excellent recommendations. The yuca, fried pork, and black beans was the best I've ever eaten. The churrasco was so tender and perfectly seasoned. We're coming back again before we leave.
The Metropol never disappoints. Super quick friendly service and delicious savory food. Serving Cuban and Puerto Rican dishes. My favorite is the stuffed cornish hen with black beans amd a side of Casava. 🥰 They serve big groups easily and also have their own private parking and security watching the area.
Food is amazing and Chris, our server, was the best! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Definitely authentic Puerto Rican and Cuban food!
Every aspect of this place was excellent. The service is phenomenal - our server answered every single question we had with a smile and suggested several drinks and plates our party could try. The manager came by and not only welcomed us to the restaurant but welcomed us to the island. The food! Oh the food! Our table ordered the mufongo, chicken, fish tacos, fiesta cubana, empanadas de carne and tamale - everything was well portioned, hot and very tasty. I recommend the fiesta cubana plate because it comes with a little bit of everything.
Metropol what's recommended by our Uber driver! We went for dinner! It's a quaint little bar/restaurant. Our server was so nice, attentive to all of our needs. The food was good, had empanadas with a Spanish rice! So delicious! Thanks for a nice dinner!
Red snapper was delicious. Chuleta can can pork was crispy and very flavorful. Prices were reasonable. We will be going back.
Pretty good! The seafood paella was delicious. Perfect for 2 people. Seafood and yellow rice cooked together. Bit crowded, but wonderful restaurant 🔪
All of my years of watching Sanford and Son, I finally tried authentic mofongo. I had it with sauteed garlic shrimp. My palate has been redefined x10. I'm in love. The hubby enjoyed his beans and rice and his skirt steak. He said his steak was cooked to perfection. The calamari was pretty good too. Our server is a gem. She was very nice.
The food was amazing! Every dish was loved by everyone at my table. Bonus that some main dishes come with rice and beans
I wondered how they make their exceptional BBQ ribs and why they would put it on the kids menu! Really good service and we didn’t even wait for a table. RECOMMENDED!!!!!
For the first timers in Puerto Rico, this is one of the best places. The food was great and so was the customer services. We didn’t know much about the food. We asked the server and googled a little bit to help us decide what to order. Whatever we order was great, yummy and big portions. We couldn’t finish it all. Highly recommend this place!
We had the opportunity to visit this restaurant when visiting San Juan a while back, before the pandemic and the earthquakes. My mother in law was visiting from TX and this was her favorite restaurant when she was growing up in San Juan. She is 89 and wanted to eat her favorite one more time: arroz congri, churrasco y tostones. This restaurant is part of the Cuban cuisine history of San Juan and they have been in business for many, many years. In addition to what she wanted, we ordered arañitas, arroz mamposteao, biftec de pollo a la parrilla y carne frita. Of course I ordered what she ordered and I am so happy that I followed my instincts. The churrasco was cooked to perfection! She was so right! The waiter was very knowledgable and provided great service to our family. The price was reasonable. I highly recommend this place. Minutes from SJU. We will definitively go back.
Came here based on a recommendation from our Uber driver and not disappointed. Our server walked us through items on the menu to help us decide. We got Sangría Tinta, Cuba Libre, Bacalaítos, Tamal en Hoja, Empanadillas de Carne, and Ropa Vieja with mamposteado rice and mofongo de yuca. Out. Of. This. World. I’d fly back just to have the Ropa Vieja and sides. Ambiance is warm and lively. Lots of families engaged in conversation. Highly recommend anyone stop here! Apologies on the pictures as we were starving, so this is just the aftermath.
Mofongo pulpo, mofongo carne, tostones, maduros, everything at this chic local joint was delicious and brought me back to my mamá's home cooking and my time growing up on the Hawaiian islands. Service was friendly and entertained my coworkers' attempts at Español. Would definitely visit again. Magnum Approved.
Great food, very busy place, good menu if you are Cuban. Very good prices
Metropol is a fantastic spot for authentic Puerto Rican and Cuban cuisine. The menu offers a great variety of traditional dishes, all well-seasoned and generously portioned. Their lechón asado is tender and flavorful, and the arroz mamposteao is a must-try. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a great place for both casual dining and special occasions. Service is friendly and efficient, ensuring a great experience from start to finish. If you’re looking for quality Puerto Rican food with great value, Metropol is definitely worth a visit.
Delicious food! A quick two minute walk from our hotel. Another waitress took the time to interact with my friend and I and give us information over places we could visit. We ordered the sampler with Empanadas and queso frito, as well as the churrasco with arroz and tostones! Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We also got the Pama mojito which was so yummy. Would definitely recommend and will most likely be back
A Classic Gem That Feels Like Home – Metropol Isla Verde. Metropol in Isla Verde is more than just a restaurant to me—it’s a cherished part of my life story. This place has been around since I was a child, and some of my earliest memories are of my grandfather bringing me here. Now at 45, walking into Metropol still feels like stepping into a warm, familiar embrace. The interiors haven’t changed much over the years, and that’s exactly how I like it. There’s something comforting about the nostalgia it carries, and it's a big reason for my continued loyalty. The food is the real deal—authentic Puerto Rican cuisine that never misses. On my last visit, I had the grouper ceviche with tostones made from pana (breadfruit)—absolutely fresh and delicious, perfectly paired with a crisp glass of wine. My father enjoyed the classic ropa vieja with congrí rice and a cold beer, and it brought a big smile to his face. Metropol is hands down one of the best spots to grab real Puerto Rican food, especially right after landing at the airport. It feels like a homecoming, every single time. Whether you’re a local, a returning islander, or a visitor looking for something real, Metropol is where you want to be.
5his restaurant was the absolute best of any restaurant we tried in either Isla Verde or Condado areas. Very authentic Puerto Rican food, as well as a few Cuban dishes & American fare. The atmosphere is above average for the area ESPECIALLY at the price point. Their meals start atound $15 and almost all are under $40. They are BUSY FOR A REASON! We only wished we'd found them sooner, but well wirth the walk.
The food here is amazing. Service was top notch. We took the recommendation from the server and it did not disappoint. Our new favorite spot in PR. Diego was the best and really took care of us
Metrópol located in (isla verde) is a gem that offers an authentic taste of Puerto Rican cuisine, attracting both tourist and locals alike. The restaurante boasts a warm and inviting ambiance. Service was outstanding, with Hector doing a fantastic job suggesting appetizers and main dishes. Despite arriving closing time, the staff remained formal and friendly, always smiling despite their visible fatigue. The food was really good, well-presented, and offered in generous portions. The menu had a lot of options, making it easy to find something for everyone. Prices were decent for the quality and quantity of food served, which is truly a culinary delight. Overall, dining at Metropol is a delightful experience that I highly recommended to anyone looking to enjoy authentic Puerto Rican food. Don’t forget dessert👀 try flan de coco
Metropol Isla Verde offers excellent food with flavors that truly deliver. The Dorado fish was excellent as well as the yuca. I am still not sure about the rice, though the plate presentation was excellent. The alcapurrias weren’t exactly like the ones pictured in a Google search, but the taste was spot-on and exactly what you’d expect from a good alcapurria. The restaurant itself could use a bit of TLC, but overall, the food makes it worth the visit. Yelitza, my server, was helpful and with excellent customer service.
Huge menu but the waiter was very helpful and helped us decide what to eat. Mofongo was great and the location is not far from the beach. Empanadas and plantians were also very good!
Ate dinner here 5/13/22 Highly Recommend. Customer service was wonderful. The food was DELICIOUS!! I love the decor and how friendly the waiters were. You do have to wait a while for your food. Food does NOT come out quick at all so don't be in rush. However, the food was absolutely WORTH THE WAIT. We fish fritters for an appetizer, I got the Shrimp Monfongo, and my friend got the Seafood Monfongo. We CLEARED OUR PLATE.
We had such a great experience at Metropol in Isla Verde! The food was delicious and the service was even better. The mofongo was amazing – perfectly seasoned and the plantains had that perfect balance of soft and a little crispy. The nuggets de pescado were a big hit too, super crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. And the pechuga empanada (breaded chicken breast) was so good and filling – real comfort food done right. Our server, Alexandra, was wonderful. She was super nice, very accommodating, and made sure we had everything we needed the whole time. You can tell she really cares about making guests feel welcome. Overall, it was a great mix of delicious food, generous portions, and friendly service. Definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in Isla Verde!
This restaurant offers up some really good authentic Puerto Rican food. We got the skirt steak with chimichurri sauce and it was delicious. The grilled flavor was exceptional. The carne fritas encebollada ( fried pork with onions) on top of monfongo ( mashed green plantain)
There were no misses here, all hits! From the time we walked in the door we were greeted warmly and with inviting smells. Our server Edwin was a gem! He offered great suggestions for cocktails, appetizers, entrees, and desserts (yes we ate that much!) I highly recommend visiting this location especially. It was our first meal in Puerto Rico and they have set the standard. We'll definitely be back!
This is my first dinner on the main island in Puerto Rico. Their food was satisfactory. I ate too much mofongo, so decided to order something else. Their grilled chicken was awesome. The meat was flavorful, juicy, and easy to fall off from the bones by slightly touching. The beans were tasty, perfect match with the rice. Fried bananas were sweet as a perfect dessert. However, their grilled garlic fish was too salty. Cajun sauce could be better for the fish. The fried plantain slices were bland without any sauce. In addition, they had a great vibe and service, but their AC made the temperature too low. Puerto Rico always has a wonderful weather during day and night, but they did not have a patio and set the room temperature freezing.
Absolutely the most authentic and savory local dishes in the area. No matter your taste, there is something sure to please your appetite. Service was prompt, professional and patient with our crew. If you’re looking for a wonderful meal, by all means pull up a chair. Prices were very reasonable for the quality. Can’t go wrong with churrasco steak with black beans and red beans with rice. Plantains, salted cod fritters were a real delight too.
This was one of our favorite restaurants on our first trip about 7 years ago, so we were glad to hear that there was another location on the island. On our first trip, I was amazed at how big the pork chop was, and it seems like it is even bigger now.. Everything was good. The pork chop was kind of dry, but we got some sauce to put on it, and it made it a lot better. It is definitely one of the places where I will come back to every trip.
We had an excellent experience at Metropol Isla Verde! Our server Edwin went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. His friendly attitude, professionalism, and attention to detail made our visit truly special. The food was delicious, and the coffee was amazing — but what really stood out was Edwin’s outstanding service. He is definitely a great asset to the restaurant. Highly recommend!
Craving a good and a gluten-free Kan Kan, ✔. We needed the dish to be gluten-free due a celiac condition, no cross at all. Louren our server was very knowledgeable about our gluten-free diet and make it possible to have a great dinner. Coconut mojito and red sangria were VERY good. We opt for a sampler appetizers dish which was good but the portion vs price was not balanced. Just a decor suggestion, change or remove the rug, my hubby got his allergies flared up and he felt a bit uncomfortable. This is the reason I didn't give a 5 stars. We will return on our next trip to SJ.
A good bang for the buck but they lack consistency. Consistency in quality, consistency in making sure what you ordered is put in the bag and consistency in what you ordered being delivered. I order beverages and they’re not put in the bag. Some days I get five slices of plantains the other days only two. We ordered habichuela beans a few times but this last time we had had enough. They keep sending kidney beans instead of habichuelas, with no mention of a substitution. They need to just change it on their menu so that way customers aren’t confused and disappointed, because the quality is definitely different, the taste is absolutely different and it’s frustrating to order one thing and to be sent another, with complete disregard for my request or our money. The chichirron de pollo, on a good day, is the BEST chicken you can ever have.
Busy spot. Had the mofongo with pork, and it was good. Lots of food for the serving. Staff were awesome.
The pork chops we're huge but over cooked (seems par for all restaurants in PR so far). The Caesar salad was mediocre. The tres leches was just ok. We ate here twice last week and we ordered the steak and it came back well done when it was ordered medium rare. The service was better than most local places. Friendly and fast. They checked our vaccination cards and IDs.
Food was so good! The steak was very tender, rice and beans flavorful. Food came out fast and waiters were attentive for the most part. Atmosphere of the restaurant was a bit dingy.
I really like this place. The food is very good, the prices are very reasonable and the service was friendly, competent, and fast. I ate lunch and came back for dinner two days later.
Parts of the restaurant are under construction so some of the contractors outside can be rude walking in and out. The food is relatively good depending on what you order but I can say you cant go wrong with the kan kan pork chop or the fritters and chocolate cake. If youre looking for something decent to eat here is the place
A nice restaurant but not the best in Puerto Rico. Food was ok. For better restaurants leave tourists areas and find gems... there out there. Service was impeccable, incredible people work here.
Great Mahi Mahi, Cuban Tamale, and crab stew. My favorite by far is the red beans and rice and the beans and rice yum! Walking distance from my hotel so it was great. I often share my travel and dining adventures on TikTok @flightsandbites8 and Instagram @flightsandbitesbrand, and this visit definitely gave me ideas for future features.
Very nice restaurant in Isla Verde. Cuban, though; mainstay Puerto Rican dishes are not available. Have been to a few elsewhere on the island, but this is our favorite. Redesigned a few years ago. Very nice decor, good service and very large portions. A real bang for your $ buck. Arrive before 6pm if you don’t want to wait for a table. Parking lot in front.
Me and my husband went after flight/ checking into our hotel on a Thursday around 8PM. We were referred by manager at our hotel, the walk wasn't long at all. Not too crowded, short wait. Pina coloda was sssoooo good. My husband ordered a mojito (not pictured) he liked it, however it was too strong for me. My shrimp mofongo wasn't the best eventhough it was my first. Eventually later on in my trip, I tried the skirt steak mofongo at "Pizza City" it was SO GOOD!!!!! Husband ordered stuffed Cornish hen. The meal was well seasoned but almost too salty but was sssssoooooo good 😁😜 The fried plantain was the best I've had! Calamari was okay by the time I received the sauce they were gone 🤷🏾♀️ Waiter referred Flan for dessert, it was okay not too big on the texture; two bites and I was done. Husband finished the rest. Bill came up to $95. Overall good experience.
We’ve visited this restaurant twice, and while the food can be excellent, the consistency varies. First Visit: We ordered the shrimp mofongo and the skirt steak with mixed rice and beans plus cassava—everything was delicious and well-seasoned. The tres leches cake was a great finish. Second Visit: We tried the ropa vieja with mixed rice and beans and sweet plantains, as well as the roast pork with white rice and red beans. The flavors were great again, but the roast pork had more fat than expected. The tostones never arrived with the meal and were later given as a takeout side, but they weren’t freshly made. We also ordered piña coladas with Don Q, and it was disappointing—hardly any rum flavor at all. On a positive note, the wait staff was attentive during both visits, which we appreciated. The location is a plus, especially being so close to the Fairmont Hotel. When the kitchen is on point, the food is fantastic, but consistency needs improvement.
It was good, but not great. I probably ordered the wrong dish because I saw a number of delicious items at other tables. The Crab Stew was only OK. Kinda mushy. The restaurant does have a local feel to it which is a plus. Service was good after a longish initial wait. I'd go back to try the Cornish game hen because it looked awesome
I literally went straight from picking up my car rental at San Juan airport to Metropol!!! No stops — it was straight to this highly recommended spot. For my first ever visit to Puerto Rico, this meant it was also my very first taste of authentic Puerto Rican cuisine!! My sister and I were really excited to try as many things as our stomachs would allow. For starters we ordered the Croquetas de Bacalao (cod fish croquettes), and for our entrées the Chuleta Can-Can, the Mofongo Camarones (shrimp 🦐)!! All in all the food was good. My favourite from everything that we had was the Mofongo. As it was my first few hours in San Juan, I was also excited to try a Piña Colada on its home turf! I believe it was with Don Q rum. It was good - but not the best I had on the island. The service was overall good/average- but unfortunately there was a smell in the restaurant which even after we asked to switch tables - never really seemed to go away.
Black bean soup awesome. Salmon Ceasar was fishy and dressing was old. It was crowded so I am sure the other dishes were better. Next time will order the shrimp
I recently visited Metropol and overall the food was quite good. Some dishes were a bit over-seasoned and a little too greasy, but in general, the flavors were enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. Our server forgot some of our orders, drinks took too long to arrive, and this happened even though the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. When it came time to pay, they were unable to split the check properly, despite us being very clear about it from the beginning. I had high expectations for this place based on friends’ recommendations, but unfortunately, it fell far short of what I was hoping for.
Overall, this was a uniformly average experience. The service, food, and atmosphere were all underwhelming, with nothing particularly noteworthy. Additionally, the waiter was overly pushy, which detracted from the visit. I would not choose to return if I were in the area again.
I really wanted to like this place as it was referred by a friend to be the most authentic for the area. I was honestly disappointed. The wait time for the amount of space available was ridiculous. We waited almost 2 hours on top of the time it took for the food to come out. The food itself was not what I expected for the amount of traffic this place is receiving. On our second visit, we went a little more into the local side recommended by one of the beach guys selling drinks. Huge difference service, seasoning, and overall wait. I'm giving it a 3-star review because I feel this place has a lot of potential just needs better management.
Not the Metropol of years past. I remember Metropol being more upscale. It's a little dated. Th foodwas good and the prices were reasonable . Service slow (high volume) but pleasant server. It was freezing in the restaurant. I asked multiple people about turning the AC down and even went outside to warm up. It finally got a little warmer but if you can't enjoy your food because it's so cold, what's the point?
Food was a solid 8 out of 10 but we waited over an hour and a half just to eat and the service was terrible. Our waitress disappeared and we received the wrong food at first before waiting again to receive our actual order. We were also sat near what looked like the restaurants phone which rang over and over again loudly for over 45 mins with nobody picking it up despite there being a hostess there and the restaurant being empty with plenty of staffing. The ringing was a bit annoying.
Had lunch today ordered chicharron de Pollo with Chinese rice and tamales. Chicha Ronne de Pollo was super salty which I could not eat rice abd tamales were good. I told my server I could not eat the chicken received my bill plus tip 28.00. I’ve eaten here many times first time I had this problem
The food was a bit salty. For carne guisada I'm use to having some sauce in it. This barely had any. My wife got the fish tacos and she was not liking the mayochup on the top.we also got the bacalao croquette. And it was just mushy and creamy. Didn't really have any texture to it.
Tried this place on vacation in Puerto Rico, last day of a week vacation. I dined in and I got their Veggie mofongo..it wasn’t listed on the menu however the waitress said they could make it. This was my 3rd ordering veggie mofongo for the week from other restaurants local and in other parts of PR. They gave me the choice of garlic sauce or creole. I got the garlic. Took 25 minutes for me to receive my food, I didn’t stress it too much as they were busy. Food finally came out…the veggies were streamed and overcooked with no seasoning. The garlic sauce was bland and they weren’t generous with it at all. After tasting it and being disappointed I asked the waitress if I could get the creole sauce. She got it for me with no problem. Creole sauce came out watered down and another small amount. Food still was disgusting. And I was charged extra for the sauce even with it appearing to be watered down to stretch it. Customer next to me had undercooked beef and had to sent it back. He eventually left also because the food wasn’t seasoned to his liking either. You’ll be better off sticking with the locals about 20 30 minutes away at the kiosk. Cheaper and their more dedicated to providing good.
Called to check what the wait time was. They could not understand English and kept saying there were no reservations. Got on-site to see a large party that came well before us being told the wait would be too long and they left. Luckily since it was just the two of us, the wait was 20 minutes. Waiter was very pleasant. Got fried cheese as an appetizer. That was not bad! We wanted to try a local dish. So got the Chicken Mofongo. Got the Salmon fillet as our safe bet. Both dishes were passable at best. Will I come back? Unfortunately, no!
Good food. I’ll give them that . But SERVICE , attention to the customer - súper bad !!!! I asked for an extra spoon - never got it . There was a guy with the eyeglasses walking kinda like a manager - I raised my hand and said 3 times - disculpe , disculpe , disculpe !!!! Nothing . He was like 3 feet away from me . Than I raised my voice and- oh miracle happened - they all woke up immediately!!!!! Guys , pay little bit more attention to the people .
With a packed parking lot and lines snaking out the door at Metropol, expectations soared—how could a buzzing spot serve duds? Service hummed along fine while seating, sipping drinks, and ordering apps and entrees, with our waitress nailing menu Q&A and recommendations. Then, the nosedive: restrooms strewn with paper confetti, soapless sinks, and sandy floors that screamed "abandon hope." When the food finally arrived, every plate was lukewarm at best and flat-out cold at worst, like it had just come out of an interrogation room with a heat lamp. The "side salad"? A tragic handful of shredded iceberg with twin tomato slivers, as if greens were rationed. Side plantain fritters? A stingy trio. Alerting the waitress triggered Chef Mike's tableside tango. Plates whisked away, returned "warm," but now the medium-rare steak was shoe-leather jerky, pork chops chew toys, every bite an overcooked crime. Half-off the bill couldn't salvage the fiasco; the best part was finally leaving.
the layout is kinda weird, and despite there being tables in the main room, they sat us in a bar room? no worries. but then the waiter takes our drink orders and just stands next to us to talk to a waitress? okay. when we asked to put in our food orders, he snapped and said he wasn't our waiter. That's confusing. i can't tell for sure, but I've been here before. No problem, and yet this time, i had my American husband and his mom, and suddenly we get treated all weird? It's giving xenophobia, and i gotta say if you're a tourist, you should stay away just bc of food safety. the food was just ok, overpriced and it wasn't fresh. they took forever, but my rice was way too sticky, and the beans had a paste texture from how old they were. AND! the cheeseburger? its like $10 and it quite literally was just meat and cheese. i was in shock but wanted to gtfo
