If you're lucky enough to eat at the Minturn Saloon then you're either a "local" or a very wise and well-informed visitor to the Vail Valley. This is so much more than just a great place to eat (and/or drink). It is an institution of the area with a rich history and plenty of autographed photos from famous actors, musicians, athletes and politicians dating back decades. On a sunny day you can relax on their patio with a refreshing drink (margaritas are a specialty here... just stay well-hydrated with water at high altitude). My favorite menu item for 30+ years was their Shrimp Enchiladas with Blue Corn Tortillas and White Jalapeno Sauce. Rumor has it that it has been deprecated in the post COVID-19 world. If you're resourceful, however, it can be closely recreated by customizing their taco or burrito offering. NOTE: The free self-service chips and salsa have gone the way of the shrimp enchiladas... You'll have to order them from your server now. Nonetheless, you can't go wrong at the Minturn Saloon. Missing it during your visit to the Vail Valley would be like, well... WRONG. (Note: This "might" also be the favorite watering hole/destination for those braving the off-piste Minturn Mile... Not that I would know or anything...)
Great job bringing real atmosphere and history back to life. Excellent bar, waitstaff and atmosphere. The people beside us at the bar said their food was excellent.
Nestled in the historic railroad town of Minturn, Colorado, the Minturn Saloon is a beloved landmark with a history stretching back more than a century. Known for its rustic Western charm, it originally served as a social hub for railroad workers and travelers passing through the Rocky Mountains. Today, visitors are greeted by lively décor showcasing local memorabilia and outdoor adventures, including skiing and rafting. The Saloon’s diverse menu features mouthwatering Southwestern cuisine and a hearty selection of drinks, making it a favorite après-ski spot among locals and visitors alike. Its warm, welcoming atmosphere and colorful backstory embody the spirit of old Colorado.
The best worst kept secret in Minturn. This place is FANTASTIC, please never change. Stiff drinks, fast service, and the best jalapeño poppers you will ever get. Seriously, they are stuffed with sausage and wrapped in bacon. Say f* it to your cholesterol levels and order one.
The saloon was amazing! The servers have amazing knowledge of the history, make great drinks, and are so friendly! Great food and warm fire, definitely a must see!
Everyone needs to visit ‘The Duke’s’ John Wayne’s watering hole! Plus Clint Eastwood’s , Cheryl Tigue’s , Franco Harris’s etc
We have been coming here for years. The staff is great, the margaritas are the best anywhere and the food is just great
Definitely worth a visit, great food, service and experience
Great food at reasonable prices. Friendly staff and good service.
Service was impeccable! Everyone was so attentive and nice! The food was top notch, probably one of the best we've had in the Vail/Minturn area.
This has been a favorite for over 25 years! Good food, fun atmosphere amazing people. A Vail Valley staple!
A classic institution at the end of the infamous Minturn Mile. Reasonable prices, good beer selection, friendly service.
Freshly remodeled and looking great! Small simple menu with modern takes on classic tex mex dishes.
A must go-to! So much history, great hospitality and great food. Our family loves coming here!
Excellent place ti eat and cool bar. The place has been here for many many years. I always stop here to eat if i an in the area.
Minturn Saloon was a delicious Mexican dinner on a freezing January night. Our group of 6 snagged a nice enclosed booth and received excellent service the whole time. The menu had enough variety for most folks and the drink menu was similarly designed to have something for everyone. The margaritas and chips/dip appetizers we received were solid and our entrees were quite good. The fajitas were a standout, although I didn't adore the flour tortillas, and the popcorn a fun snack.
Outstanding vibes and food to match Cornbread was very tasty, elote dip was excellent. I got the red chilli, which was quite good but a smallish serving, definitely benefited from the cornbread side
Recent remodel looks great and the service was so friendly. I tried the elote dip, blue corn bison enchiladas and the brownie. First time trying bison and I will eat again. Mmmmmmmmm!
The minturn saloon is an amazing spot to visit. The food was delicious we got jalapeño poppers, and street tacos of the day which were chorizo carnitas. We stopped here after a long fall drive and will be back. Russel and kojo were friendly and told us all about the joint. Good beers, good vibes and delectable food! Parking was super easy there is a lot past the saloon to the left. We sat at the bar as soon as we got there, they were busy but very attentive.
Amazing outdoor space during the summertime, as it is right next to the Eagle River. The inside is massive which I’m assuming they do shows? They have to! Anyways, their drink selection is pretty broad but they make sure to advertise local Colorado whiskey, which I always go for the 10th Mountain Whiskey 🥳. During the winter this place is a wild good time only being a few miles from Vail and I believe you can ski down to it if you are feeling adventurous. 11/10 would live at this place if I could.
Great people with a huge selection of drinks and interestingly good Mexican type food
Old looking place, makes you think about, what to expect, and then comes food. Finger lickin good. You don't have to be hungry to enjoy whatever you order. I had burrito, just as good as you get in Tijuana or in Edchadas in Yucca Valley.
It's a classic, and they have upgraded! The prices have increased, and the free chips/salsa is gone, but this place is easily still 5 stars. The remodel is beautiful, and much classier. Friendly vibe, quick service, fantastic bartenders. Can't go wrong here whether you just finished the mile or you want to bring your family for dinner. Added some pics of the new menu.
Creative take on Mexican food. Outstanding flavor combinations (Bison enchiladas, street corn dip among them). Amazing history and a true Who’s Who of fans for almost 100 years. Prices high for Mexican, but reasonable for Vail area.
Such a great place to drink an ice cold beer and have a bite to eat. The staff was amazing
We had a family and bridal party get-together the night before my daughter's wedding for 53 guests. The food was simply scrumptious and there were a lot of vegetarian options which was important for our group. The owners were so accommodating and easy to work with. They checked in with us a few times before the event to make sure we had everything exactly how we wanted it. They couldn't have been easier to work with. Our event was out on the patio and it was such a casual and relaxed atmosphere. Kudos to the staff who were so attentive and friendly. This place is a real gem!
Wonderful all around. Food was delicious, service was amazing. Russell and Jen at the bar are fantastic. Beautiful renovation, giving a historical building a new life, hopefully making us all appreciate the history of our valley.
It's a flavorful limited menu. What they do, they well. We ordered 4 different plates and loved all of them!
For some, a saloon might conjure up some images of the old west. There are some characteristics to the theme, but this place is top shelf. Food, drinks, service. Can't say enough about the fine service from all the staff members who took care of us. The GM was a great guy. Took time to talk with us a bit, make sure we were comfortable and well cared for. All in all this place gets a full 5 stars from me. Highly recommend a stop in if your out in the Colorado mountain town of Minturn!
Iconic place! I'd give them 7s for service and atmosphere!!! About 30 years since the last time i was here! We will be back!
We rented out the Minturn Saloon for a private event, and the vibe was PERFECT. The food was delicious and everyone loved it. The restaurant is right on the river and has been recently re-modeled with a super cool rustic vibe and great cowboy and western decor on the walls. We HIGHLY recommend eating and celebrating here! Thank you.
Did we want to become locals after our visit? YES! We loved it here, the whole saloon is beautiful. I truly want to thank Mary for being as great as she is! We honestly would have sat and chatted with her for hours! Truthfully, during our first visit we all gave our server, Jen a hug as we left! She was incredibly warm and welcoming. I say this without exaggeration my group of friends instantly fell in love with this. We literally bought all of the merch we could and made sure to stop by before we left town! To the wonderful Minturn Saloon- their eclectic western interior, delicious food, drinks and the people who make it so much more, we hope to be back very, very soon. We will happily be coming here every time we are in Colorado. Again to Mary if you see this, thank you for everything! (Your friends from Miami)
Great spot, Adison was an angel. The renovation I believe took a little charm from the place.
Yay, so good! This was our first visit after the remodel and significantly improved menu/food quality. Remodel retained the character, but made it clean!! And the food is amazing now!! Excited to add this back to the rotation. Drinks were solid (my favorite was the spicy marg), chips, guac and salsa were tasty, and all of our entries were great. Favorite included the steak fajitas, but everything was really, really good.
Great appetizers: spoons of tuna and peppers, cheese and bacon. Delicious barbecue dinner. Lovely outside patio
Absolutely delicious meal. Beautiful job on the renovation. Will be going back ASAP Wanted to update my review after having been back five more times. Still 5 stars- The shrimp fajitas are delicious, as are the corn bread, cast iron cookie... the list goes on. Even the chips and guac/salsa have a charred/spiced lime you can drizzle on the chips for an extra kick that's unique. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It's very kid friendly as well! Will continue to come back again and again. Thanks Brian and the team there for an excellent meal with excellent service
This is one of those rare, special places, that you’re thankful to have found. Great food, great drinks and amazing people. So much fun, so much happiness here. Cheers!!
As a wedding planner I have a high expectation of event spaces and the Minturn Saloon exceeded all of my expectations for my recent baby shower with them. You may be thinking, is a saloon really a great space for an event like that? The answer is absolutely! I would recommend this space for any kind of event - wedding, bridal shower, baby shower, or just a party! Kasey, their events coordinator is top notch and will go above and beyond to ensure your event goes flawlessly. The food is great, drinks are strong and it's just a really cool atmosphere. Highly recommend!
I cannot say enough good things about this place!! We will come back this way just to come here! Russell and Anthony made our experience exceptional. I am a bit of fry snob and I was in heaven!! If you are ever in Minturn the Saloon is a must stop! Their enclosed patio allows you to enjoy the “outside” even in the rain. I am gluten intolerant but their French Toast was so tempting every time I saw it come out.
Amazing place! The food was excellent; great chef who works really hard. The atmosphere was lovely. You can tell the owners put a lot of money and pride into the renovations. We highly recommend this place. The squash enchiladas were to die for, and the fajitas were great. Our kids also loved it. Highly recommended!!!
Great bar vibe, live music on a Tuesday! The menu and food is awesome...Jen is a rockstar and had her finger on the pulse of the table all night. We were a party of 14 and they handled it like champs. I will definitely be going back A+
Kasey and her team truly exceeded our expectations from start to finish. From our very first meeting through the wedding day itself, their attention to detail was outstanding. The food was absolutely delicious, and we loved the way it was served in small batches—it never felt like a typical buffet, and everything stayed fresh and inviting. The butternut squash lasagna ended up being one of the biggest hits of the night, even among the most devoted meat lovers in our group! The drinks were fantastic, and the staff brought such great energy and friendliness that they helped keep the celebration fun all night long. We couldn’t be happier with our choice of The Saloon for our reception and would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone planning an event.
Fun historic feel, pricey but so is most things in the area. Wonderful choices, predominantly Hispanic menu but known for quail, duck and ribs.
The Saloon is a legendary spot with autographed photos and letters from notable personalities from the 20th century. The recent renovations while likey necessary did wash away some of the rustic charm. The menu while solid did lack flexibility and some of the variety from the past. Overall great experience and southwest food and very good drinks. Dry-rub wings were some of the best I’ve had, Steak Fajitas were excellent, an option to select a combination of proteins is needed. Birria tacos were flavorful. Margaritas are on point.
This was one of the places that we read we must try while we are in Vail, and well for anyone that reads this review. If you are going for the food. It's not really anything special. Mexican/American cuisine. As someone with a Latin American background, was slightly disappointed in the Mexican cuisine. It's not bad. It's just not great. If you like bars you might appreciate the history of the bar as you enjoy a drink. Don't think it was worth it. Definitely not a place I will visit again. That being said Dave our server was fantastic. He was the best part of our dining experience here.
Used to love this place, but had a few bad experiences recently. Closed after a Friday minturn mile lap (11/29)… yet claim they are “local”. Typical Vail prices for underwhelming bar food. We had an 8pm reservation and they were cleaning around us, turned the lights on and kicked us out at 9:15. Don’t take the reservation if you are going to rush us! Wait staff was also complaining about how people don’t show up to their reservations… wonder why. Done eating here for the price, will still grab a drink occasionally.
I was looking forward to my return after hearing about the renovations. While the improvements are nice and the service was EXCELLENT! the menu and food was rather disappointing. I ordered the chicken fajitas and was very disappointed. The taste was very bland. There was almost no spice to it and the chicken was a little tough. How can you mess up fajitas? We were there at 7pm on a Friday night. Not all tables were full, but it was still very noisy! The velvet curtains in the corner booth are a nice touch. Maybe extend that idea through more areas of the restaurant to provide some sound absorption? Disappointing, but I know I will be back for another try. Great location and great staff.
Tonight was the first night I’ve been back to The Saloon since the remodel/reopening. The new owners did a nice job preserving the historic and memorabilia feel. However, they did not preserve a lot of our favorites on the menu such as the chimichangas, enchiladas with jalapeño cream sauce, fried ice cream or even the complimentary chips and salsa. What we ordered wasn’t bad, but didn't live up to our expectations/memories of The Saloon. The prices, relative to the portions were pretty disproportionate, even for the Vail Valley. Lastly, our server, Andrew, was really bad. Listening to other servers in the dining room, we may have drawn the short straw getting him, but again another disappointment this evening. I have been going to the Saloon with my family since I was 4 years old (1981). Sadly, tonight was probably our last, at least for a while.
Hostess/server was incredibly rude after waiting for 5 minutes and having a reservation. Was such a bad interaction we immediately left. Was better before!
Made a trip out to Minturn like we do every year and decided to pick up a few salads to go. Called in an order and the guy, Brian answers the phone and was rude right away. Then I ask if I can place an order to go and he says, “he’s not sure if he can.” Puts me on hold to check. Gets back on the phone and asks what we wanted to order. I told him it would be 4 Cesar salads with chicken. He yells to the kitchen staff and asks if they have time to make 4 Cesar salads with chicken because they are really busy. Someone tells back and says, “yeah! It’s only salads!” Then he asks, if there was anything else I wanted and I said no. He proceeds to tell me he can’t hear me. At this point I’m yelling at him telling him no. He then asks for my name and I say my name and again he’s telling me he can’t hear me even though I’m telling at him. Tells me I need to call back with a name then hangs up. So I had to call back twice to give my name and number. We decided to order food to go because it’s more convenient for us since we have a family member in a wheelchair and The Saloon isn’t wheelchair friendly. It was a little disappointing to experience such bad service at a place we enjoy going to. Especially after sending $96.52 on 4 Cesar salads with rude customer service.
