Avis sur El Charro, Mexican Restaurant Montrose
Went there on a Taco Tuesday. Wasn't expecting much. I ordered two hard tacos and three soft tacos. They were absolutely ginormous and delicious. I would recommend. I thought the chicken tacos were the best. On Tuesdays, they are about $2 each.
Great lunch special and staff here at El Charro. Parked behind in the lot. $9.99 for lunch special plate w two shredded beef hard shell tacos. Really freshly fried tortillas ... classic Mexican restaurant in LA style. Free drink w free refills on the lunch special, along with good chips and salsa. There’s other lunch special options including two enchilada plate, chili relleno, bean and cheese burrito... Gonna come back here for a dinner and try the chili Verde. Heard good things about the stew!
By far the best Mexican food and margaritas in the area. No heartburn or indigestion even with the Chile verde. Tortilla soup is really good, and carnitas Fri/Sat. Rice is the best, has a nostalgic taste. Margaritas are not super sweet, the raspberry or el charo grande👍 Love the 50s and 80s background tunes. They make their own salsa and Chile verde sauce, you can tell the freshness.
Really liked it, affordable and delicious food, good customer service and ambiance.
Great lunch spot. You can’t go wrong with a margarita and a couple tacos here. Try the carnitas👍
Fantastic local spot with my favorite crunchy tacos in all of L.A. Kenny pours a mean margarita. I absolutely love this place!

Great old school feel. Good food. Dont change a thing.
Went here on a suggestion from a friend. This is some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever eaten. Staff was friendly and service was so fast. Can’t wait to return someday, even though we live hundreds of miles away
Been coming here off & on for the last 40 years & the consistency is always top shelf. Would have to say this is maybe in the top 3 Mexican restaurants in all of LA. This food just reminds me of home,
El Charro is my new favorite Mexican restaurant!! Comfy cozy atmosphere & great service! The blended margarita was so tasty. The shrimp enchilada was delicious with perfectly cooked wrap, like charbroiled & not mushy like others I've had elsewhere, & yummy dinner salad. And excellent salsa!!! I can't wait to go back!!
Always love their guacamole and chips and salsa and the drinks are strong and the beef fajitas are the best in the world and I have traveled. Missed this place after covid I didn't come for a long time as they stopped serving beef Fajitas. When I called to see if they had them this afternoon I was delighted to hear they did. So I immediately told mom we were going there for dinner! She had my other favorite there ... cheese enchiladas.
I love this restaurant. I live near by and eat here pretty regularly. The owner/ bartender, Debbie always makes a balanced, wonderful cocktail. Her Gold Margarita is exceptional! The restaurant serves some really great authentic Mexican dishes as well as tacos, enchiladas and burritos, etc. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The food was great and the service was even better! Friendly and attentive. The chips and salsa were perfect. I drove all the way from Burbank because I wanted to try this restaurant, and it did not disappoint me. 🙂 Good parking, highly recommend. Will definitely be back.
I enjoy all of their plate offerings, but my favorite is the shredded beef tacos. Whether it's taco Tuesday or any other day they are hard to beat. I was told that their cheeseburger was the bomb and did try it. Winner!! Yeah it was not expected, but it's a pretty darn good burger. You won't be disappointed in any choice. Highly recommended, I've been going here for 25 plus years and have never been disappointed by any item I've ordered.
I love El Charro because it’s like walking into a time capsule. They haven’t changed the decor in 40 years or more. I love this place. Food is very good, margaritas even better, and service is excellent.
I haven't visited here in about 20 years. My aunt used to work here in the 90s for a long time so I've been many times. Went last night with a party of 4. Let me tell you! Just like I remember, excellent food, prompt customer service, delicious food, and affordable prices! We made it out for less than $70 which is crazy to me right now. Go El Charro!! KEEP IT UP♡♡
A family favorite for more than 40 years. Every time I am back in town, we try to visit El Charro. Whether it's Taco Tuesday or any other day of the week, come to El Charro and they will take good care of you. The food, service, and prices are always good. Thank you, El Charro!

Great place for taco Tuesday but get they're early because they tend to run out of shredded beef which is my favorite but the rest of the family loves the ground beef which they tend to always have. The drinks are hit & miss but chips & salsa are great. I am not a fan of their flan, it's more like jello than a custard. Side note, some fans would really help the heat in there.

A real disappointment and had we not invited our friends, we would have left. The service and the wait time for the food was unacceptable. We were seated immediately, but did not see our waiter for almost 20 minutes. The bus boy delivered chips and salsa about 6 minutes after we were seated and then returned 5 minutes after to take our drink orders. The waiter finally showed up and we ordered. Our food took over 45 minutes to arrive although the section we were seated was only 50% occupied. Rarely did we see our waiter during the evening and we noticed other customers were also waiting for drinks and food. Although the staff was friendly, there seemed not to be any urgency or concern. Our waiter did apologized for the long wait, but it seemed that this was normal by his casual attitude. We also ordered food to go, which also took a long time. The food was average Mexican food made for an American palate. The tacos lacked flavor and the toppings were basic. No salsas came with the tacos and we had to ask for bottled hot sauce. With all the great Mexican restaurants in the area, I can not recommend El Charro based on poor service, tired, outdated decor and mediocre food.

Food was cool, fish tacos were good, flautas were nice, and beans and rice were child approved. No baby changing station thats why its a two star. Its not a bar or an adult only spot. If you have a kids menu you should probably also have a baby changing station. A private one not one by the door where everyone can see your babys business when they walk in or when theyre walking by.

El Charro restaurant... More like El "Chorro".. My family and I were really looking forward on eating here based on the positive reviews on Google but boy were we misled.. The food was absolutely disgusting and far from being authentic "Mexican". When the food rolled out it became very obvious this establishment catered to American folk.. Everything was coated with yellow American cheese, the enchilada sauce and salsas tasted like they were straight out of a can.. I would consider Taco Bell and Del Taco more authentic "Mexican" than this place.. I can't complain about the service.. The host, the server and the mouse that jumped out from under our booth were very polite.. I definitely will not be coming back and I wouldn't recommended El Charro to anyone who loves REAL Mexican food.
