Avis sur Pelican inn Muir Beach
Quaint little place. It gives the feel of an English Inn. Lots of trails for walking/hiking, and it's a 5 minute walk to Muir Beach. We saw deer, rabbits, newts, and quail on our walks. The staff were great, and the rooms comfortable. It's pricey, but we'd definitely make the trip again.
Recent visit in Oct, I didn’t like fish & chips (fries were fine but fryer fish wasn’t that great to my liking). But Pasties (beef or vegetable option) which came with a small salad that my friends had were delicious and good price too. Of course, bangers and mash are always best option for many. Lovely place to stop by to enjoy English beer with a great selection of lunch & dinner menu. If you bring your own blanket, there’s a large well groomed grass lawn that wraps around the property. Perfect to stretch your legs, relax and have a outdoor meal. The waitresses were attentive and busy bringing your order to outside. Need to order your drink and meals at the bar inside first. Muir beach/Mill Valley could get very windy and cold/foggy even in the month of July. Check the weather before head over this costal area. We were very lucky to enjoy our lunch on a warm sunny afternoon after 3 to 4-mile hike to arrive on foot from Mill Valley. It’s one of the institutions in Marin near Muir beach.
We came here just for the restaurant as we were staying right in San Fran. The food is so delicious and the setting is warm, cozy, and very intimate. The beef Wellington we had was outstanding as well as the au gratin potatoes. We drove about 40 minutes to dine here and we would do it again each time we visit the city.
Highly recommend for food and pub like setting! If you visit Muir Beach, stopping here is a must. Excellent staff and really cool atmosphere. Food is also great. Definitely a British style pub. The fish and chips were quite good! Stop here for food, drinks, and a good time!
Such a cute little pub with really great outdoor areas perfect for a sunny day. We had the beef Wellington and I will dream about it, it was so delicious. Great drinks although I would stick to the beer and wine. The cocktails were just ok. On top of all of that the staff was friendly and knew what they were doing. This will be a spot for us to come to again and again.
We stopped by there yesterday to try it. Beautiful building and want to come back when things are open so we can go inside. The food was awesome! We had the fish and chips and shepherds pie. We did enjoy sitting outside while eating. Would have been nice if the guy working the order window would have been a little closer to hear are order better. He seemed like he had no desire to be there. But, with everything going on with covid. I can totally understand the keeping the distance. We are definitely looking forward to coming back again.
A quaint, lovely British pub and inn that doubles as an unofficial rescue center for hikers who have lost their way. The wifi info is posted at the bar. Thank them by buying a drink or a meal as you wait for an Uber or Lyft to take you back to your vehicle or San Francisco. Next time I'm getting lost on purpose to grab some lunch here!
Lovely English Pub near Muir Beach! There aren't that many English pubs in the bay that you could truly believe we're in rural England! I loved the architecture of the building and all the furnishings were very fitting. There were lots of great classic pub food options and lots of beers available too. I particularly liked the outdoor area and lawn next to it. Definitely a great place to eat if you are visiting the beach or Muir woods
We stopped while passing through Muir Beach on Hwy 1, and so glad we did. Inside and out feels like an old British pub that you would find in an English countryside. The food was really rich, delicious, and authentic British from the fish and chips (with a side of peas), to bangers and mash. I had a vegetable tart which I could not get enough of. If ever driving the coast North of the Golden Gate, I would definitely recommend stopping in. They also have rooms for rent with beach access. It would be a fantastic place to spend a weekend.
We would go back again and again and again to the Pelican Inn! Go for the cozy rooms with a "quiet room" (called the snug) available for guests in the 7 available rooms, stay for the oh so British atmosphere and the beauty of West Marin and the hundreds of miles of trails available there!
surely I've written a review of this place before. I've been coming here for 3 decades at this point! it's one of my favorite places on the West Coast. the location is gorgeous and the entire place has this amazing time capsule atmosphere, it even smells different... the food is always excellent and the selection of beers fantastic. I've actually never stayed at the Inn overnight (one day tho!). it's a loooong rest stop on motorcycle rides or drives to Stinson Beach.
Perfect fish and chips! Stopped by after an afternoon at the beach with some friends snd our dog. The fish was perfectly cooked, generous portion, and even came with a delightfully refreshing side of green peas. There was a large outdoor area with benches where we could stay socially-distant and chat while eating. I especially appreciate one of the staff members helping me change my tire when I discovered I had a flat and could not get my old tire to budge!! I can’t thank you enough! Fantastic meal, lovely ambiance, and friendly staff member who went above and beyond. Thank you!!
Quaint isn't a strong enough word! This place manages to capture every charismatic and appealing detail of a traditional British-style pub/inn and deliver them to a location that works so symbiotically with the aesthetic that you might just have to actively convince yourself that you weren't transported to a small fishing village on some rural English shore. The food was absolutely spot on and done very well (had the beef stew with a side of potato gratin, the 'English' dip sandwich and sticky toffee pudding). All items tasted great and, paired with the draft ale and giant genuine wood-burning fireplace, completely sold the feeling of resting and recovering from wet and weary travels! As much a little adventure as it is a great restaurant, I look forward to booking a stay (yes they really have rooms, like a real inn, for real) sometime to get the full experience!
We just ate here. And it was WONDERFUL!!! The food is excellent at a quite reasonable price. Portions are large. I'm taking home some of my stuffed quail which was sumptuous. The garden salad was divine as was the soup of the--tomato. I'm taking some of that home, as well. The architecture made me think I was back in England except the ceilings in the inn restaurant are higher. And the bread pudding was EVERYTHING and more. The staff was so nice--lovely people. We'll definitely be back.
We love going here for a late lunch at the pub. It has great food and atmosphere. One person we met there enjoying the place was from England and told us the Pelican Inn was like being back home, at a classic English pub.
We went to the restaurant for lunch and beer. The shepherds pie was unusual but delicious. The beet salad was so small it couldn't be eaten as anything but a side salad, but it was delicious, and the fish and chips was delicious but the fish had more batter than fish. The service was good but they are under staffed and therefore a little slow. The beer was great. The atmosphere is fantastic and gorgeous. I would come eat here at least once a week if I lived in this area. For 3 people with 3 beers and the food I mentioned including the tip it came to $104, so it's reasonably priced. I highly recommend eating here at least once because it's a cute little restaurant in a gorgeous setting. Apparently they have rooms for rent too!
At first glance, not so impressive, but give it a chance! We stopped in for a quick dinner and at first were under impressed, but when we got our food, we were blown away! Order at counter and they deliver to table. I had a salad with the freshest greens I've experienced, even at a 5-star place. We also had the English dip sandwich (french dip) and it was so good! Friendly and fast service. Tip for business: clean your menus.
Love the Pub for lunch and the London Mule is so refreshing. My husband and I go each Sept after hiking the Tennessee Valley Trail
Just stopped in for lunch in the pub area, and was transported to mid-1800s England. Wonderful staff, great food, relaxing atmosphere. I wish I lived in the area so I could visit regularly.
We had lunch here. It was amazing. We hiked in when we stumbled across it. The rustic feel made us happy the food and service was great.
My friend, Eric, has a fond memory of this establishment. After a LONG mountain bike trip (railroad) they made it down and got a burger and a few beers. Eric believed someone was going to pick them up and give them a ride back to the cars but, NO! Long day . . . This is a delightful PUB. Good food and atmosphere, you'll feel like you're in England.
Great ambiance, lovely staff and decor, cute spot to stop by for a pint after visiting Stinson beach, food is a bit bland as is the food of most pubs, but we had a great time, I would love to marry my girlfriend here eventually :)
We celebrated our wedding at Pelican Inn and it was truly perfect! The venue was absolutely beautiful and provided the most intimate setting, exactly what we envisioned. The staff were exceptional, ensuring everything went flawlessly. We couldn't have asked for a more wonderful place to mark our special day. Thank you for making our wedding day unforgettable!
Absolutely the best. Excellent location, walking distance to beach and restaurants. Very quiet street and location. Loved sleeping with the windows open. Large rooms, super cozy beds, hot showers, cozy lobby where you can sit and drink coffee or tea, patio on top story so peaceful, beach chairs available to borrow, very responsive host replies to text messages and is very accommodating. Highly recommend!
an amazing English styled restaurant with amazing service. what I love about these people is the wifi and password posts outside in the parking. the entire place for miles has no cellphone service and this is their lil service to the visitors in the are. food here is amazing And a well stocked bar takes care of all your requirements. this is the only food place in a long way here!
Drove down from Sonoma just to check out Muir Woods and ended up at the Pelican Inn for lunch. Great food and great service, warm and friendly and the place is cozy and quaint. It reminded me of some of the beach side pubs I saw when in Ireland. Stop in for a bite and a pint! The food's better at the Pelican Inn, though. I had the savory tart and split a sandwich with someone, both excellent. Google seems to think it's a hotel, though, and that is not at all the impression I received. It's a restaurant/pub.
We stopped at this pub on the way to Dillon Beach from Muir Woods, we did not stay at the hotel. The restaurant was recommended by family and we were so glad for the recommendation. We had fish and chips and Shepards pie which were both very good. The atmosphere was cute and very English pub feeling almost like out of a movie! Quick and friendly service too. Highly recommend.
A true Brit experience. Great food, beer!! Traditional venue.
After an impromptu hike, finding this place at the end of the trail was pretty magical. The mussels were excellent and the beer was cold.
A ‘must stop’ location for the food and pub atmosphere. We did not use the accommodation, so cannot comment on that. The pub is quaint, inviting and “British like”. We had the pasties and ploughman’s and both were just delicious. Bartender named Tory was fabulous !! We will definitely come back when we are out this way.
Sam the manager is amazing! He is consistently considerate and thoughtful of your experience at this lovely place in Cambria. Theres just no other place like it and the rooms are absolutely fantastic, clean and beyond words - the views are unlike anywhere else!! We will be coming back for life love it here and never want ro leave !! Love it here! ❤️ 👏
Well what a super fun place to stop after a near by hike. I had been here pre-pandemic days and forgot about it until we did a hike over in Tennessee Valley. It is the MOST adorable inn and restaurant. Has a dog friendly patio and lawn (either of which you can get food and drink service) and the food and drinks are tasty!! Worth a day spent hiking in or around Tennessee valley, followed by a post-hike beer and delish meal. If it is a sunny day, expect to wait. If it is cloudy and closer to the second half of the day, likely the wait (if any) will be short!
Ate dinner there because we saw it while heading back from Muir Woods. It is one of the best English restaurants we've eaten at in a long time. Beef wellington was delightful and tender, fish and chips was perfect and they even had malt vinegar (hard to find at restaurants that serve it!), and the English dip was hardy and flavorful. Even the fries were perfect. Absolutely fantastic service and the decor was stunning. Top notch, highly recommended!!
Just outside of the Illustrious Muir Beach lies a historical landmark. Feels like an English pub from the 19th century. We had the fish and chips with steamed clams, very delicious! I appreciated all of the rustic furniture and dollar bills in a multitude of currencies attached to the ceiling. A destination dinner! I tried the wunderbwrg cocktail, just what the doctor ordered!
We ate here for an impromptu date. Excellent atmosphere and service. The food was excellent as well. This is only 30 minutes from the city. Highly recommend the pub. We will be staying in the inn soon as well.
Great out of the way spot near Muir woods. Cozy pub area with authentic food and drinks. Always friendly service.
The best trout in the area 5 starts to the chef 6 to our fantastic server Miyu and Blaze!!!
Great lesser known pub tucked away near Muir Beach. Feels like you're in the UK. Get the fish and chips
We stopped by completely by chance to grab a bite nearby, with no expectations at all — and ended up having the most wonderful evening. The atmosphere is absolutely incredible! Candles everywhere create such a cozy feeling, and there is a fireplace as well. The Guinness was excellent. The sausages were delicious. The beef stew was also very tasty. We are absolutely delighted!
This place is on my bucket list . After an express trip to Muir Woods. We didn’t reserve parking so the parking attendant directed us here to use the internet to purchase one . They were so hospitable. Had I not been just taking advantage of hours between flights I would have gone for lunch or dinner after our walk through Muir Woods . Old English inn and tavern. You feel like you’ve stumbled upon a secret cottage from 200 years ago! 🥰🥰🥰
We had a great lunch! I ordered the trout and kale. Have a nice English pub vibe.
If you love all things classically English, this is the place. Walking distance to Muir Beach, excellent food, beer on tap, friendly service. The rooms may be considered bare bones with no television, but if you came to watch TV, you're in the wrong place. This is the place to relax, unwind, and enjoy your friends.
What a great place to eat! Traditional English pub atmosphere and traditional menu. Everything was so delicious. I normally take the photo before I dive in, but had to try it. It came out piping hot. Beef was incredibly tender and cooked as ordered. Dessert was also very delicious! Definitely make this a destination spot to eat if you’re in the area. Even if you’re not in the area, you should stop by. We didn’t stay here, but the rooms look very nice.
Staying the night at the Pelican Inn is an experience like no other. Every last detail is thoughtout to make you feel as though you have stepped into another place and time. My fiance and I have stayed here twice and have come for dinner on many occasions. The rooms are beautiful and cozy with antique furnishings and every door, bit of hardware and artwork gives a sense of place. I find myself admiring every small detail. Additionally the rooms are clean, beds are very comfortable, the showers work great and bath products are high end. The restaurant serves all kinds of typical English fare and I have enjoyed everything I've tried so far. We especially enjoy ordering tea here since they serve it in cute antique teapots and often have a fireplace burning for a super comfy ambiance, especially after a walk on Muir beach. It's hard to really pin down what makes this place so special, but I would recommend to anyone to check it out for themselves.
Stopped in for lunch while Sunday driving Coastal Rt1. Pelican Inn is the PERFECT English pub. Food and drinks were classics and service was super friendly. Couldn't recommend it more.
Great experience this weekend! The inn is fun and romantic! Small but comfortable rooms. The food was delicious and the service great. The beach is a short walk away .The only problem was that they left the music on in the bar and restaurant and we could hear it all night long. Surely, that doesn't happen every night and mistakes happen. We will be back!
Stayed here 1 night on our California road trip from England. Quaint old English pub which reminded me of home, with old wooden beams, that subdued lighting and open fires. The snug for guests staying was beautiful, cosy and warm. Got the open fire on which was toasty. Friendly staff, good food and English ales. Great rural location to explore Muir beach, the surrounding hills in peace and quiet. Only downside is that more lights in the dining area are needed ad reading the menu by candle light might enhance the atmosphere but in my opinion not required. Great outdoor seating area and gardens. Try the pub or pop in for a pint.
Food was amazing. True English fare. I had the pasties, friends had bangers and mash and liver and onions. All excellently cooked and delicious. Cider was great. Lemonade great. Ambiance is wonderful. Patio was beautiful with hanging vines and old tables. Inside was old pub feel with wooden table and candlelight. Don't miss out on this place if visiting mt tam or muir woods. Service was excellent couldn't ask for better.
We LOVED our stay at the Pelican Inn! The host Chelsea and our server Kelly were so welcoming and kind. We loved the old English tavern aesthetic it was so cozy in there with the fog rolling in! It's nearness to Muir woods made it such a no brainer stay during our road trip. The food was so excellent as well. I loved the candle lit dinner with a delicious chicken soup and shepherds pie. Would stay here again or highly recommend it to anyone.

Lovely find on our way to Muir forest( you need a reservation) came back through for lunch and found this lovely hidden gem. Well worth your time to stop in!

Pub review: We stopped by for a quick lunch after playing at the beach and it was delicious! The food was a bit pricey but nothing unusual for a pub, and the beautiful ambience and unique offerings made up for it. I definitely recommend the pear cider and the fish and chips! Lovely little place, especially with the beach so close by.
Stayed at the inn and ate dinner and breakfast there. Pros are the environment is exactly as disheveled as you'd want an English beach pub to be. The ambiance is great. Food and drink selection are great too. Being so close to the beach and getting a private parking spot if you stay the night is really nice. Room was nice and getting a special hangout with the other room hotel guests was very fun. Cons are they need more employees I'd guess but the servers that are there are great. The location drives up the prices. And we did not get the full English breakfast that was advertised.
Very good attempt to recreate an English pub. Bar was very small but otherwise nice ambience indoors. Limited menu, but sausage and mash was very good. Pasties were a disappointment, more a cross between a turnover and a samosa, nothing like an English (Cornish) pasty.
Stopped by for an afternoon beer after a hike. As it turned out, the WiFi was not working so they could not run credit cards. Staffing working were curt with customers, telling them cash was the only option. Fine but felt like they could have been a little more accommodating to customers. Heard one gentleman, who said he’s been a customer for 20 years, asked if he could pay later. Nope! I think it would be my last visit if I were him. Cute, interesting place but staff left a bad taste.
Looked very old and authentic. Where nothing changed over the years. Had a nice meal. Fries expensive.
I recently dined at a charming restaurant just a few minutes from the ocean, and I was captivated by its beautiful chalet-style architecture. The inviting wooden beams and cozy ambiance created a warm atmosphere that perfectly complemented the natural surroundings of the house . The proximity to the ocean added a refreshing touch, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing meal. Overall, the combination of the picturesque location and the delightful design made for an unforgettable dining experience.
The Inn was decent, with low ceilings. Surprisingly it was built in 1979, but was built to look older. Dinner was fair, had the shepards pie...very small portion. The breakfast, which came with the booking, was good. The location is secluded, but very close to Muir beach.
Loved the ambiance and vibe....but the beef stewed we ordered was terrible..sorry it tasted like the progresso less sodium can..so disappointed 😞 😑 😕 I should have ask, coz when the guys said ill be ready in 5 minutes...im like hmnnn Then we realized oh that's why...but still No excuse..people doesn't want can food...
Quite enjoyed the Pelican Inn. It is cozy, warm, and the food is good. The server and inn staff are inviting and friendly too. :)
If you want an experience of an old English pub in the states, this place is an absolute gem! I'm comparing it to a gew pubs I was went to London thos weekend. Fire burning in the fire place, large wooden tables, smell of the smoke, candle lit dining area and bar, I would have sat there all day drinking pints. I had the bangers and mash, which was really good. A few people in our party had the beef stew, they weren't terribly impressed. The quote I heard was "this a lot of stew and not much beef." We didn't stay at the inn. If I'm ever back in the area, I would go back. The prices weren't anything outrageous, especially for CA. The ambiance alone was well worth the stop before going for a walk in the forest.
Loved the ambiance of the bar area and the staff were great! Very comfy pub feel. Prepare to get cozy because the next person isn't far enough away from you to have a private conversation anywhere but inside your own head. It's a good thing though and if you hate that idea, sit in the dining room area. A bit pricey for standard drinks (beers at least), but captive audience, etc, so whatever. Just be prepared to pay more than you expect to at your neighborhood bar (well, depending on where you live, of course).
We ate here, but did not stay here. My son loved the old English atmosphere. I'm older so it was pretty, but dim for sight. I had the beef dip, which was good. Fries were bland, but I'm not big on fries. He had salad, pasties and cheese board. I tried the pasties and wasn't crazy about that. Cheese board was good. But it's very authentic looking and a nice experience.
I stopped into the Pelican Inn at 10 Pacific Way in Muir Beach on a Saturday evening with my girlfriend, aiming for a rustic, romantic dinner. The setting absolutely delivers that mood: a dim dining room, a real fireplace going, and a cozy old-inn feel that fits the foggy-coast vibe around here. We were only there a little over an hour, but it was a comfortable hour. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and I appreciated that they were able to squeeze us in with a same-day reservation. For this part of Marin, the pricing felt fair—nice atmosphere without feeling like I was paying extra just for the scenery. Food-wise, I started with the mushroom soup (as seen in my photos), and that was the standout for me—warm, earthy, and exactly what I wanted on a cool evening. I also tried the Beef Wellington (also in my photos). It was okay, but since it was my first time ordering it, I didn’t quite know what to expect, and I left thinking I probably should’ve gone with the 16 oz. porterhouse instead. My main critique is that our server seemed pretty overtasked, which slowed the pacing and made it harder to get quick check-ins. The room was also a little noisy for how small and intimate it feels. Still, it’s a charming spot for atmosphere and a comforting meal after a coastal drive. Overall, I’d call it a solid 4/5 stars—worth doing once for the setting, even if I’m not completely sure it’s a repeat place for me.
Felt like I was in England based on ambience and food. We were definitely weary travelers upon arrival but felt warm and full when we moved on down the road. Good stop for lunch and a pint.
The Pelican Inn is amazing. We have passed it so many times traveling to Muir Beach. Though we did not stay the night, the rooms looked amazing! The pub is amazing, however the Guinness beef stew is a little short on the beef front. That is the reason I deducted a star as we ordered two. The fish and chips on the other hand were amazing. The pub feeling especially so far from England was amazing. This is now my new go-to restaurant here in Muir Beach.
We stopped here for lunch. Gorgeous Inn, felt like we were in England. Food was served quickly and it was good. Ordered the sticky toffee pudding and was surprised that we were charged $2.50 for ice-cream. We were not told that was extra we thought it came with it. Other than that enjoyed eating lunch here. .

I loved this British pub. I just wanted to sit in that atmosphere all day. Sadly, the food was just ok and in small portions for the price.
The bar tender is an excellent server. But after you pay for your food there and get your table number, the people serving the food could learn from the bar tender. The food is as good as you would expect for British cuisine. Not exactly worth what you have to pay. But I guess the majority of their patrons are rich enough they don't bat an eye at the price which is why I had to ask for an itemized receipt. The main dining room is mostly lit by candles which can be romantic, but too dark if you have children with you. If you like to dine outside in December you better dress for winter. It was so cold I had to eat my food quickly before it was just as cold. If you are just stopping here for drinks and a snack it can be fun. Unless you are planning on staying here it's not worth dining here.
We traveled several hundred miles to go to the pelican inn. It's a special place for us. My wife is English and it's a little taste of home. The fish are chips are amazing as well as the bangers and mash and stew. however we left with a really bad taste in our mouth with regard to the service. We were accidentally seated in the dining room by a young man. Who later came to apologize and say the dining room was now closed but we could stay at the table but need to order at the bar and he would bring us our food. Which was totally fine. I appreciated he didn't try and move us out. My son 11yr old son came.thru with our sodas, he was shushed away by a lady who said the dining room was closed and he had to go outside. I caught his attention and told him to come in. I then explained to the lady what had happened and they'll we where told we could use the table. She waved her hand in the air and stomped off. Throughout our time there she approached everytable and greeted them. Played with thier dogs, asked if they needed anything but completely ignored us. We quietly got on and uses the bar to refill drinks order more food. Even as we were leaving looked right at us put up the room divider, turned her back on us and left. Not Even a good bye or thank you. We left very sad at her passive behavior
This establishment is adorable. We ordered the fish and chips, shepherd's pie, and beef stew. We recommend adding some salt and pepper to your food for additional flavor. The fish and chips was our favorite. Their ordering system is a little different from what we are traditionally used to. You place your order at the counter and find your own table. Seating is a bit limited especially when it's cold outside.
Went for lunch a couple of weeks ago. My party was openly treated differently from other groups arriving g at the sane time. The server appeared to rush us while ordering and was not very friendly. We were asked to order and pay in advance for our lunch, when other parties were encouraged to seat themselves and order at their table. We were barely recognized during our Neal, and were never asked if everything was ok. The tables next to us were asked by both servers. I will not be back.
I feel like this place has gone downhill. The staff is very nice and helpful but the food is average at best. The fries were not real potatoes but fried frozen mush. The goat cheese salad was a few sad watercress stalks with a tiny (partially spoiled) half a beetroot and a tiny bit of goat cheese (at $14 it feels like somebody is making a joke - how small and sad can we make it?) The cider was warm :-( I had to add a lot of ice to make it not taste like warm apple juice. But again, the staff is wonderful and warm and helpful.
Close to trails we went for the dinner. Service was friendly and attentive, but they under cooked my quail. I would've given them 4 stars if I didn't have to send back the food and rush through it when the proper dish came out. It's a very charming tutor style pub with romantic seating.
I hadn't been to the Pelican Inn in years. It used to be one of my favorite days out from San Francisco so I was very excited to go back. It was as charming and authentic as I remember but the food had gone down hill. I used to love the Shepard's pie there (ground lamb in gravy with vegitables topped with mash potato) but this was just a gravel with a few peas, maybe a hint of ground lamb, watery mash topped with a ton of cheese to mask the mess below. If lamb is too expensive and you want to keep costs down, use beef or add a few dollars and do it right. I was very disappointed in that but Grant our server was AMAZING, had attention to details, was entertaining, charming, funny, informative. He made the meal so we left the place feeling slightly less disappointed. Location can't be beat (right next to the beach down a stunningly scenic road).
Uncanny valley of an English pub lodged in a california state park. I stopped in out of curiosity as I’m english and miss my home. I didn’t eat but a friend did, the food being served looked very overpriced for how basic it all was; and odd choices for a “pub”. A cornish pasty for $15 dollars seemed bizarre; and rather insulting. This is a working class pie designed to be eaten in the hand by coal miners, it’s also the cheapest pie money can buy in England. It’s mostly folded pastry with some cheap mince and carrots inside. I know this is America, but it’s like putting a hot dog from a kart vender on the menu and charging $15 dollars for it. It all felt like a rip-off; overcharging people who didn’t know any better. Anyhow the Guinness I drank was great, and they served half pints. I’m sure the inn rooms are great but the food looked over fried, way too basic and made little care. A reply from the owner: noted that the food cost more; California being more expensive than England, no it’s not. London is far more expensive, and I live in NYC. The price would be fine if it met the standard of the food reflected, I can see the food in these reviews even: the bangers and mash looks made by someone who hasn’t eaten it since the 70’s. Frozen peas, paper sauce cups? The chips also look like they’re out of a bag. Google bangers and mash at an average London gastro pub.
Love this place. It's authentic, romantic, cute, good beer and great location. The traditional pub food is reasonably priced but low quality (being British, very disappointing) but our waiter (I be…

This place looks and feels like a real pub in England. I went in before noon and it quickly filled up and was busy. Tried a salad, fries (chips), bangers and mash, beef and potato pasties and the s…

We stayed two inights. Room 7 is a loft room with small bathroom on odd level. The king bed has a broken spine, so its lumpy bed. Tub only, and hot water does not last for more than 4 minutes. Also…
Came in Memorial Day Monday. Oysters and mussels were both out. Server didn't inform they were out - i asked *then* he said they were out. Got fish and chips. Awful. Chips were thin and soggy. It's a British pub, please nail the basics.
$20 for the world’s smallest shepherd’s pie. Apparently, it was larger and much better in the past. Barely any meat in it. Veges were frozen veges. Mash was whipped too fine to make it resemble glue. The sauce / gravy was like tomato soup. Not brown in color. Pros: parking was easy. Atmosphere was nice. Guinness was alright. Gf commented it tasted watered down. I thought it was fine. 2 stars for the atmosphere and setting.
We came here to dine, but it was awful. The smell was unpleasant, and our table was placed directly—less than a foot—from the live performer. It was unbearable. We left before our water even arrived.
The property is charming, there’s a cool lounge with a fireplace and board games. Food is pretty consistently bad, including the breakfast which we were disappointed by (my poached egg came in a soup of water) Our room was very charming but there was a continuous muffled sound at night (probably from the central heating) that made it hard for me to fall asleep. I understand it’s an old building, they should probably provide some sleep earplugs for guests. I’d only come back for the beer and the vibes, I wouldn’t stay or dine again.
I'm super bummed. The space is gorgeous and it's been on my bucket list for years; unfortunately, I live in SF and it's a bit of a trek. The service is comically awful. At one point we asked if we …

The grand pelican inn has none of its firmer glory. Worst bloody Mary I ever had. Tried a chardonnay, not much better. Fish and chips were cold. Sad to see.

Terrible experience. After our visit they have taken money multiple times from our credit card. They do not answer messages nor answer the phone. Stay away

Service and food were terrible. The beer finally arrived at end of meal.
It was mine and my husband’s first anniversary so I decided to book us a romantic night away at Pelican Inn. The location is great and the restaurant is nice but our room was run down and the management was awful from the moment I booked the place. We were overcharged for our room, after several email exchanges before our visit even started, the person responding to me said they would talk to management and I never heard back from them (after repeatedly following up). When we checked in, a very rude woman who did not even greet us, asked us to sign a paper before handing over our room key and when I took some time to read it, she yelled at me “just sign it!”. I asked her about the room being overcharged and she said she couldn’t help me, I’d have to email the same email address I’d been corresponding with to get help with my inquiry. When I explained to her that was the same email address I wasn’t getting a response from, she blatantly ignored me. The breakfast the next morning was in a cold room and not one of the wait staff greeted us. They set our plates down without saying a word. One of the guys working there questioned us the morning we checked out like we were criminals. Wanted to know if we were staying at the Inn and was asking when we checked in and when we were checking out. Then the guy walked outside and watched us in our car as we tried to find directions to our hike. It was super uncomfortable and very unwelcoming For the amount of money it costs to stay here, I was pretty disappointed. I would recommend the restaurant but would stay away from the hotel.
My husband and I ended up staying here last minute by booking online on their website. Check in was pretty smooth and our room was like something out of a story book. The following morning we enjoyed a complimentary hot breakfast with unlimited freshly brewed coffee. Afterwards we went to our room to enjoy the cute nook area which overlooked the gardens while conversing over our 4th? cup of tasty coffee. However this bliss ended when we checked out. Their system lost our reservation and they began accusing me of never making a reservation. This was followed by a tirade and threats as we tried to leave. Later that day we received a call from the owner explaining the mishap of their reservation system followed by threats of arrest by the sheriff's department. The threats continued the next day with additional comments of calling my associates, family and local police department. Pretty disappointing treatment of former customers. The inn is a beautiful experience but with this experience I hope to never cross the inn ever again!
Dark, a little dingy and hardly any room to move around. If that's what you like. 6 ok oysters, Mush with cheese on top is the Shepards Pie, a beer and glass of wine is $80 bucks. Never going back.
Having not been there for over 20 years, we recently went back to the Pelican Inn for a drink and a bite to eat. Sadly, while the building and location are both perfection, the hospitality was terrible. There is no one welcoming guests, and customers have to figure out ordering on their own. It is obvious that the people who work there are only doing so because they have to. We ordered our drinks from the server who was “mechanical” at best. After paying $24 for a thimble of wine and a beer (yeah, we expect to pay more for things in a “nice place,” but come on), we sat down and were thinking about what to order (as the only 2 menus in the place are up at the counter). At one point the server was wandering around lighting random candles, but never the one at our table where we were seated. Another server was rushing around delivering plates to the tables, zero customer interaction. The place started getting very busy… and with that level of service, we decided we would go elsewhere for dinner. It seems that the place is owned by someone who owns many other historic type properties, and it shows that this owner has no interest in hospitality. As long as it makes $$, and I’m sure it makes a lot, it doesn’t matter to them. What a shame.
Room was subpar for the price, ordered breakfast in bed and they made the breakfast and sat it out in the dining room downstairs for over an hour and then would not make a new one when I asked where it was they just brought up the cold one. This place has potential to be really really cool and the food at dinner was actually decent, although they were out of most of their menu items.
Sorry to be giving you one star but, if you were going to run a restaurant then you should have food. You can't run out at 1:30 in the afternoon and tell people you don't have any more food you're only serving bar drinks. This was Saturday, and I understand you guys are a little bit remote. I think in 15 or 20 minutes you're back in Mill valley. Basically what I'm saying is if you are going to run a restaurant, then do it professionally.
This was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. The hotel is full of smoke. It has clearly been built incompetently, without proper chimney linings so as soon as the huge open fire in the dining area is lit, smoke suffuses through the ground floor, then the upper floors. It was quite revolting and deeply unhealthy for everyone. And if you have smoke thoughout the building, how do the smoke alarms work? They are turned off! This hotel is actually a San Fransisco advertising man's version of " Olde England" but I can assure him that if this ghastly place was IN England, it would be immediately closed down by the health authorities, and the fire service. Two of my party became ill in this hotel. REVOLTING
