I live in the area and kept passing by this restaurant. So I decided to take my sister here for her birthday! The food we had was really good. Would highly recommend this place.

My wife and I have been going here (including the old location) for 40 years, and we cannot love it more! The chicken breast kebab and the naringe pulau is incredible with the white sauce, can’t recommend enough!

I have been coming here for literally 41 years (to the old location also) and been ordering the lamb kofta kebab every time. My whole family is obsessed with it we can’t get enough. The other lamb dish with orange is amazing and the tandoori chicken kebab and the white sauce is to die for

I questioned all the online praise until I tried the food myself. Their meals demonstrate remarkable quality. I expected good things from Afghan Kebab House and got even better. The workers here really care about good service. Entirely happy.

The food is phenomenal. They were over on 2nd Ave for years, and recently moved to this location on first. We picked up a bottle of wine (savings!) and were able to bring it in (because byob). Service was quick and courteous. Recommended!

The consistent praise for Afghan Kebab House finally convinced me to visit. The food tastes amazing, costs what it should and comes with great service. The team's attention to diners was outstanding! The restaurant's setting is perfect. The neighborhood improved with this addition.

I loved everything about this place. My parents are from Iran so Afghan food is such a delicious and familiar flavor. The service is so friendly and the food is delicious and well portioned. Excited to come here more and more.

This spot creates meals that satisfy completely. The meals satisfied completely, yet Afghan Kebab House really stands out for its fair costs and attentive workers. The kitchen knows its craft and the servers are kind. Delicious options that remain affordable. A truly memorable meal.

The food was simply wonderful. We had the dumplings with the ground beef sauce, palau (rice with carrots and raisins, perfectly savory and sweet), zucchini (tenderly cooked with a tomato onion sauce), and pumpkin. The owner was kind. Also big plus - it's BYOB without any corkage fee. What a gem !

I loved this place! It was our first time having Afghani cuisine and it was so delicious. We started with the Aushak Ghoushti which was good, but the real gem was the Naringe Palau. The lamb was so tender and the pistachio/orange flavor was so vibrant and delicious. I also love love loved the rose pudding. I will be thinking about it for a long time. I would strongly recommend this restaurant for anyone who likes great food and a cozy ambiance.

What a gem in NYC. Small restaurant at corner of E 71st and 2nd Avenue, it's been here for over 40 years. The food we ate - tandoori chicken and lamb chops were incredible. Also try the chocolate cake for desert. They don't serve alcohol but owner allows one to get their own bottles for no cockerage and there is a wine shop next door. Good service and a must for ones culinary diary when in NYC.

One of the best and most delicious restaurants I’ve ever tasted! We came here to have a Father’s Day dinner with our whole family to eat authentic Afghani food. My dad was super happy that he ate at his favorite restaurant. I highly recommend visiting here and taste this cuisine. Important tip, be patient after you order because they cook their food with love and care. It’s worth your waiting time to eat and everyone will love it!

Food A+++ Service A+++ Love this place! They are open for DINE IN at 3pm! It’s a small business that really pays attention to the little details. Also it’s BYOB! I would highly recommend this place who’s looking for a great home cooked meal!

The best rice I have ever had anywhere! Try the combo kebab and their black tea with Afghani spices and you won't be disappointed. The owner is very passionate about this place and is meticulous about your overall experience here. Sisterly they've been open for 32 years and have never served any alcohol. So, bring your own booze.

Absolutely love the atmosphere in here! The food is amazing! Made to order! We waited quite some time but it was well worth it! Food was seasoned with love!

I really wanted to like this place because it seems like a great neighborhood spot, but $30 for a combo kebab plate that’s 80% rice, 3 quarters of a kebab and a half a pita is simply not worth it. It was okay, but I wouldn’t have payed more than $20 for it Also ordered an appetizer sampler with the fried dumplings that seemed like they were frozen before because they weren’t crispy

Walked into Afghan Kabob House on a Friday evening with a party of two. The place was completely empty, and no one was there to greet or seat us. Eventually, the owner came out from the back, but unfortunately, there was zero hospitality. He seemed overwhelmed, doing a dozen things at once, and without any explanation asked us to move to a different table “for expected guests”—even though the entire restaurant was empty. It felt unnecessary and unwelcoming. After we placed our order, he began making awkward comments, then said he was “not going to say anything,” which made the interaction even more uncomfortable. When the food was finally brought out, he practically threw the plates on the table with no warmth or friendliness—first the appetizer, then the mains. That said, the food itself was excellent—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The kebabs were juicy and perfectly seasoned, and the bolanee appetizer was delicious. I’d absolutely recommend this place for takeout. The quality of the food deserves recognition, but the service was a 0/5 and really brought down the entire experience. I hope the owner can take this as constructive feedback—when the restaurant is empty and customers walk in, it’s a chance to make a great impression, not drive people away.

Overall Rating 6/10. Solid place overall, just has some flaws. I’m going to break down this review into four parts. 1. The Atmosphere: immediately when I walked in, I was greeted with a nice atmosphere filled with traditional paintings and nice wallpapers. It was surprisingly empty for the dinner rush, however. The place could be bigger. 2. Service: mediocre at best. Took around an hour to get all our food. Apparently you have to bring your own beer in, which was weird. But, I gotta admit, the food was pretty delicious, so I would say it’s worth the wait. 3. Food: we started off with the dumplings, which were alright. The sauce that came with them was excellent. We then moved on to salad, which was refreshing. Then, we got our entrees. The lamb was nice, but the lamb chops were surprisingly gamey. The lamb kofta was very good. The eggplant was stewed in tomato gravy, and had a touch of spice. My chicken tikka breast also had a hint of some special herb, which differentiated it from Indian food. The rice was good and the bread was excellent. Now, the thing stopping this review from being 4-5 stars was the price. Crazy! 25$ for each dish, which were small and definitely not worth the price. The food is great, just be prepared for prices that you didn’t expect.

Ordered take out from this restaurant, I got qabuli palou and beef sambosas. The palauo was $30 and came in a small standard takeout container, extremely overpriced for the portion size. The food was average, I have had better. Honestly for the price it was not absolutely NOT worth it at all. Will not be coming back.

We ordered Kabuli Pulao, but unfortunately it did not taste good at all. The chefs were Spanish, and the food felt more like Spanish food rather than authentic Afghan cuisine. The price was very high and honestly not worth it. The place itself was nice, and the restaurant owner was polite and respectful. However, I also had doubts about whether the food was truly halal, which is very important to me. Overall, the experience with the food was disappointing.

Yeah this place is NOT it. service is non existent, very dim. Food over priced. Beef tikka $26 for 2 short pieces. They basically cut one into 2 pieces. Rice we meh beef was cooked okay. Samosas are dry, and plain. Ridiculous. Not sure how they are functioning. Looking forward to this place closing down.
