Amber is a popular sushi spot known for its fresh, flavorful food and great atmosphere. Zach, the bartender, is a highlight. The spicy girl roll, tangerine chicken, and duck spring rolls are frequently praised. Some find it loud, especially when busy.

Avis sur Amber New York
Amazing sushi . We ordered the Soho, the Pink Lady, and the Triple Toro rolls. The miso soup, soft shell crab, the shrimp dumplings, and the peppered tuna appetizers were also tasty.
Some of the best sushi I've ever had. The special rolls were incredible. The sake and wine were also great. We had some miso soup and spicy edamame that were perfect as well. Great local stop.
Food was amazing and the wait times were very short. Would 100% Recommend.
Absolutely love this place. It’s delicious and the service is amazing. Tonight they forgot an item in our order and the hostess hand delivered the missing food to us to our apartment!! We’re blown away.
I really love this spot when we go in here for lunch for a long time but it's a nice place to stop on your way home to grab a drink if you are hopping the Path from the Christopher Street Station. The food is outstanding and not expensive also the chef will prepare your meal pretty much any way you like.
I took my time and effort to give them a review because they well deserve it. I've been living in NYC for 28 years, and have ordered sushi 3 times a week on average. I've been disappointed with the deteriorating quality of sushi across the board and decided to reach slightly further geographically. I can say it categorically that Amber is the best sushi I had in a long time. Their pink lady special roll is incredible, and the lemongrass soup was exceptional. I am definitely making them my only one supplier of sushi and thai food, as far as quality, and service is concerned, they have no competition.
I've dined in and taken out. Both experiences have been amazing. The customer service is spectacular and the food is equally amazing in quality! If you go make sure to have spicy edamame... it's better at Amber than anywhere else guaranteed! I haven't ever had anything that wasn't delicious there!
Great Sushi place. We came with a large party. The dishes were both reasonable and plentiful. Really enjoyed the chicken satay, rock shrimp appetizers. Both the Sushi and Sashimi Entrees were plentiful and extremely fresh.
Amber has a deverse menu with lots of options. Their kani salad is delicious, their sushi is fresh with great portions and reasonable prices. The staff are always friendly! Definitely a go to place for consistently great food!!
Talk about a GEM of a spot in West Village! The food is ALWAYS so good, the drinks are DELICIOUS and the staff is above par. Super affordable sushi and pan Asian cuisine. Their Yellowtail Serrano is to die for! Happy hour is from 12-7 honestly you can’t beat! It’s a go-to spot.
Amy the manager, who I met in an airport somewhere warm, in between delayed flight, was so alive that I can only vouch for this place. After reading many positive comments mentioning her. I realized that a place to gather and eat is more than just food, it's about the experience. And when you have an authentic person who dedicated her life to hospitality because she loves people, how can we not want to have our own tale to tell by going there...
When living in The Village I had past this restaurant many of a time, but never ate there. This past Christmas Eve, we were in the neighborhood and chose to eat sushi. While I am no sushi expert, I do really enjoy eating it, and thought this place was delicious! The setting is casual and the prices are excellent. They do have a bar where a number of solo eaters ate their meal. It is a small restaurant so make reservations if you can.
This is my favorite sushi place in New York. Always serving fresh, flavorful food (try their rainbow sushi and house wings). The drinks are also made especially fine. The host named Amy is adorable and delightful... tip her well please.
Went here after taking the PATH from Newark Penn and had a Sweet Potato Tempura Roll and a Happy Hour Hot Sake! The Rolls were big and tasty and my first time trying sake and wasn't bad! Definitely coming back for more when I head back into the West Village 😄
This is my wife and my favorite neighborhood place. The sushi is always fresh and innovative, the thai menu is not extensive but every dish delicious and nicely presented, the vibe is excellent, it's a great place to have a drink. Oh and the prices are very reasonable. What's not to like about that?
We were in NY for a few nights and decided to go for sushis. We booked at this restaurant last minute and we were not disappointed. We ordered 4 rolls and a fried rice and man was this good. I really liked the specialty rolls!! Love this place!
We discovered Amber West Village by chance when searching for shelter to escape the pouring rain. And it did not disappoint! The idea was only to have drinks so we first took the Frozen special cocktail 🍸, fruity and savory ← just take it if that's your thing, it's mine 🙂. However, seeing the numerous dishes passing by us and the place getting full convinced us to stay for dinner. So we continued with 3 Special Rolls 🍣: - Golden Dragon Special Roll (my favorite) - Chelsea Special Roll (my pick, exquisite) - Pink Lady Special Roll (traditional but really good nonetheless) The special rolls can seem pricey next to Classic Rolls but they actually are longer and much more elaborated. They are the best value IMO. We had such a great and unexpected time that I can only give 5 stars and definitely recommend the place. 👍🏾
This is not only my go to restaurant. It is my must go to restaurant. Here is what I recommend Indian Pancake, filte migon mini burgers, duck spring roll, crispy duck buns, pan fried pork dumpling crystal shrimp dumpling. Dud I mention there is excellent sushi, rolls and entrees? Drinks are great and the bartender, well she's a doll and friendly and helpful. Food come out pretty fast so I always stagger my order. The best!
Amber is the first restaurant we visited since the pandemic began. They had the front windows open and made every effort to be safe and health-conscious while maintaining excellent service, a great atmosphere, and delicious sushi. Must try the pumpkin tempura
The sushi is fresh and amazing!! The drinks ar OK. Oh yes, I left my wallet there last night at a table about three tables down, and the women that run this are lovely!
Needed a quick break from 2021 Pride and came here for a few beers. Bartender Amy was friendly, attentive, and sweet. My group got serviced quickly and cocktails were tasty ❤️
For the most part this is our go to Seamless spot. Regardless of what mood we're in, unless we just had it yesterday, we're ordering from Amber if we spend too much time going back and forth and where to order from. I get their shrimp tempura and spicy edamame. This place is solid.
The sushi was very fresh and is extremely well priced. They were also very accommodating for gluten allergy.
Great, fun, “neighborhood” bar and restaurant! My friends are even pickier than I, and they go there a bunch! The sushi lunch was delicious and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back!
The food, service and cocktails were delicious!
Took out from here and brought to Christopher St Pier for a picnic. My california roll, spicy tuna roll, and mini spring roles were delicious!
This is the spot! Best sushi lunch special. Best spicy crunch tuna I have ever had. They are fresh and quick when I order for pick up. Highly recommend coming here. Thank you for a wonderful experience
Delicious food and amazing service! Staff are attentive and just great service overall. Drinks are so good. My favorites are the lychee martinis and the grean tea Margarita! I love coming here with my son and family. My son's loves the sushi here ❤️
I love this place. I'm really not sure why more sushi places don't do jalapeno rolls this place does and they're amazing. The lemon grass soup is amazing and they have lagunitas on tap. Top marks highly recommend.
First time there, and even though they were swamped with ordered and deliveries, they took care in taking and giving my order in great time. I ordered a spicy salmon roll and cali roll. They ended up giving me a soup for free which honestly didnt taste that good but it was free so no complaints. The rolls were pretty small compared to other places but the taste more than made up for it. The freshness in the ingredients hits you right away and every bite was just packed with flavor. If service and food was that good while also being that busy, its clear to me this place is an easy 5 stars.
Amy had waited on us and she was awesome. You can really tell how much she loves her job because her personality shined through her service. She had great recommendations and the food & cocktails were delicious. We got the shrimp shumai, salmon carpaccio, the garlic edamame, & spicy crunchy tuna rolls. My friends and I will definitely come back.
5 stars in everything Best sushi I had since long time. And while most of my family don’t eat sushi , each of them got a dish that he/she enjoyed from the rest of menu. My regards to the chef and the staff who served us. Value for money was also great.
Quaint little place with quick seating and service. We had dumplings, Shumai, sushi, basil rice( we asked them to make this extra spicy) and lychee cocktails. Everything was fresh and delicious! We discovered this place by chance and I’m glad we did. 😊 PS: Do not order extra spicy food(even Indians couldn’t handle it🤭)
Such an amazing restaurant. Staff are amazing. Food was fresh and delicious!! Sadly Thai tea was a bit bitter. Everything about this place was just wonderful! Thank you I’ll definitely be back.
This is the kind of restaurant I appreciate especially in New York where a growing number of restaurants are hipsterized often along with excessive frills and unreasonable prices. Here, they don’t fool you with price or portion of the food while keeping the ambience and service above the standard.
Amber Sushi is a hidden gem on Christopher Street! The food is consistently fresh and delicious. Their yellowtail carpaccio is my absolute favorite – light, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The pork dumplings are perfectly cooked, and the tangerine chicken is so good – crispy, tangy, and just the right amount of sweetness. The ambiance is cozy and welcoming, but what really stands out is the service. Manager Amy is incredibly nice and attentive, making sure every guest feels taken care of. Highly recommend this place for a casual dinner or a night out with friends!
The experience was top-notch. The personnel make every customer feel important. This restaurant's interior has consistently impressed. Their food impresses while prices remain fair. We've all agreed this place deserves another try.
Amber is top notch and a must go to for high quality, affordable sushi in NYC. Some general highlights are their spicy crunchy tuna roll, Philly roll, their pork dumplings, and their sautéed broccoli (add tofu). My wife and I went recently and split the sushi and sashimi for two dish. We got A TON of sushi and were still able to keep cost per person under $50.
This place is really good, the personnel was kind and always checking on us, the food took some time to come but not too bad. The food was really good, I came with friends and we ordered different things, personally my favorite was the sushi and the rice. I ordered some desserts too, the chocolate pancake was delicious, totally recommend this place.
Absolutely recommend Amber for the great service provided, nice explanation of menu items and a very tasty experience. 😋 My starter was the Shrimp Shumai and the main dish I ordered was the Chelsea Special Roll. I would definitely reorder the same meal but next time I'll try something different. This place has an awesome vibe and I enjoyed sitting at the bar. Don't miss out on this gem!
It was a truly "lucked out" situation for us - while in a rush to see a show on Barrow street on a Thursday evening, we parked in a nearby garage and didn't know what we would get in terms of food, so just tried our luck with this eatery. Although its Yelp reviews are not top-notch, we were more than satisfied with our experience. It was apparent that sushi is their main stay, but we decided to order two Thai dishes and a Chinese appetizer. The flavor and taste were authentic enough, and the portions were so generous that we had trouble finishing them. It was such good value! In hindsight, we could have skipped the steamed dumplings - I did find their wrappers a bit too thick, but that didn't chip away any of my delight. Service was prompt and attentive. The decor was also very tasteful, although the artfully arranged lights made taking photos of the food a bit tricky :-).
The sushi was really good! For appetizer I ordered the miso soup and the kani salad. For sushi I ordered the spicy girl, golden buddha, Philadelphia roll and pink lady. All were delicious. My favorite was the spicy girl. Drinks were good too, had the ginger old fashioned and lychee Martini. Good for a romantic date or group gathering.
Absolutely LOVE this spot. It’s always a great vibe and the food & drinks are delicious. They have a tangerine chicken dish that is one of my favorites in the city. We’ve tried just about every special roll and they all are amazing. My favorite might be the scallop tempura or the chelsea roll (pictured below). The spicy Szechuan wontons are a must to start. We also usually get the cheesy wontons which are not on the menu, but just ask!
Summer is coming so get ready for some great summertime grownup beverage creations from Zach, my favorite bartender here. Happy hour EVERYDAY... Yes, everyday, Saturday & Sunday! The food here is fantastic! The Lettuce Wrap is amazing and the Amber Chicken Wings are absolutely delicious! The spicy garlic edamame is a favorite each time I'm there. The sushi... OH MY!! The staff is incredible. A wonderful and enjoyable place. Friendly atmosphere. This is a MUST visit restaurant!
The food is amazing. I have been there a few times over the years. The drinks were mediocre that particular night. Worth the visit but just maybe not on Wednesdays. Cheers.
Reasonable lunch prices. Food is tasty--they offer japanese specials and thai food as well. My pad thai was lacking tamarind, that I'm normally used to but still fresh and delicious nonetheless. Overall ambiance felt like I was in a club (dark, dim lighting, loud dance music) so I imagine this place to be a good spot for happy hour. Also conveniently next to the Path!
Nice ambiance. Tasty pork dumplings. Sushi just right temp, generous with roll filling. Glass of plum wine a bit pricey but good quality. Definitely on my sushi list!
This place is right next to Christopher St PATH station. We went in with no expectation, before we take the train home. And we had delightfully nice cocktails. There was some sea-food'y smell as we stepped in and a small decent bar with some sports playing. It was very quiet. I was going to order a beer, but seeing the bartender enthusiastically make a drink, we ordered cocktails. We were glad we did.
Nice restaurant with a cozy vibe and a good selection of East and Southeast Asian dishes. The food was delightful and filling, particularly the pineapple fried rice. Wine selection was limited but good. Service was friendly but a bit slow. Prices are mid-range.
It was a nice experience I think their drinks outshine the cuisine. Highly recommend the lychee martini 🍸. I got the triple toro and Philadelphia roll and the Philly was great it’s my favorite of all time. The triple toro not so much. The spicy edamame was delicious and the shumai was also very good. I wouldn’t make an effort to come here but if I was in the neighborhood and was really craving sushi. I’d definitely be open to trying them out again .
Went here with friends, they been here before and they liked it. We ordered rock shrimp tempura, veggie fried something i dont know what its called and for entree I ordered Udon. The rock shrimp tempura really nice, i love it. The veggie tempura i cant comment, nothing special. Udon, i was expecting better. Servers they are very nice.
When I came too early to a strictly fancy restaurant and they did not have seat available at that time, I needed the place to stay during cold weather outside. Amber west Village was nearby but I found this place to be so welcoming and easy going. I sat at the high-top table because we didn't have any reservations. I ordered some appetizer and drink and had nice enjoying time. Because I was enjoyed so much so I feel time went by so fast and my waiting time wasn't anything. If I didn't have to go to another place, I will probably be hanging out here until the end of the day.
Amber is a cool Asian fusion spot where you can try lots of light bites. I had the tuna martini (it wasn't listed in the picture suggestions, but you can have salmon or tuna), duck spring rolls, a few pieces of eel sushi and a few other sushi pieces a la carte. Everything was generally good--nothing wowed me but the duck spring rolls (which are popular in their reviews) were definitely worth a try. The "martini" was good as well, just tough to eat with chopsticks. I will say, the eel was a little spiny in certain parts. The atmosphere is pretty nice, it's not necessarily a quiet spot but it's well decorated. They had a little birthday dessert for someone near our table too! Service was a bit hit or miss, they either were super attentive or there were long stretches without, particularly towards the end when it was time for the check. All in all, my friend and I got a lot of things and it was only ~$40 per person, which is very reasonable for the West Village!
looks nice from the out side. The Food for itself is pretty good. The special rolls are unreasonably expensive. And what bother us the most was the staff. It's one of these places you feel you been pushed out. The food is coming super fast and they always wants to clear things out from the table and asking if you want something more. As soon as you say you good, thank you -they present you the check. Not very comfortable feeling
Nearly every sushi roll is made with chopped up fish rather than whole pieces. I tried to avoid the rolls with spicy tuna and soicy salmon since those are always chopped and chopped fish reminds me of cat food, but even something like a yellowtail jalapeño roll came with chopped fish. It was disappointing. Some of the other ingredients are jarred/canned rather than fresh as well (jalapeño being an example). All that being said, the flavors were decent so if you’re looking for a budget sushi joint this place is not a bad option.
Good sushi. Decent pricing. I also like that I can make a pit stop here to and from Jersey with the path train being right next door. I Came here on a Saturday evening and then again during the work week. Saturday's experience was great; great service, great cocktails, great food. Midweek experience didn't match up; slow slow service, drinks weren't as great, but the food was still good. All in all; I'd try this place one more time.
I read great reviews and decided to try. I was one of only 2 customers in the restaurant on Sunday and was waiting for service endlessly. Stuff seemed to be very busy with personal problems and discussions somewhere behind the scenes. Food did not impress me ether. I had much more impressive Chirashi at other places. When I asked waiter if tuna can be substituted for something else, his reply was nothing on the menu can be substituted because of the price calculations. Ok. Then when my plate finally arrived I saw few skinny slices of fish scattered through the length of the board it was served on and backed up by mountains of daikon. One can probably say that it is a very creative approach to serving Chirashi, but I would really prefer it done the classical way with fish and rice prevailing. Rice not impressive ether in taste. My feelings after visiting this place - sadly not generous neither in service nor in food
We were loooking for a cute place for a date night in the area and this place was recommended by TikTok was easy enough to get much busier the longer we were there and it did get much louder. The space was cute and enjoyable, and it was a perfect spot for a catch up with a friend. However, when it came to the food, it just kind of fell flat. Everything kinda tasted similar. Nothing really stood out. We did one of the group 2 people meals in order to decide of a roll. Nothing was mind blowing or stood out, and no one really finished their plate. I finished all the sushi for them. I would never let sushi sit on a plate. I probably won’t come back here, but it’s still a cute spot in a cute area but nothing really stands out the staff however we’re fantastic to check in on us. Make sure we’re OK and very attentive. That’s very important for me when I go to restaurants.
Service is great, the food was a real disappointment. I had the calamari for starters: feels like union rings and the calamari itself was very gooey. Had Pad Thai and left most of it. I won’t be back.
This was an okay experience. Duck egg rolls: 3/5 Tangerine chicken: 4/5 Basil fried rice: 2/5 FOOD The food was pretty good. I think the tangerine chicken was the obvious better of the two dishes though I think it was a bit overly sweet and even though we asked for the dish to come spicier, don't think that was really done. Moreover, this DOES NOT hold up well. You really should finish the dish then and there, because it turns into a rock if you have leftovers (even after microwaving) The basil fried rice was as boring as you could get. Moreover, felt the vegetable version of the dish was just filled with frozen veggies. SERVICE The service was okay - we came at a pretty early / awkard time around 4p for a meal AMBIANCE The restaurant is pretty large and decently kept, though I felt the music was a bit loud Overall, don't really recommend this restaurant.
I was excited to order from here but I ordered the spicy tuna tempura roll and veggie dumplings. The spicy tuna tasted kinda like tuna fish and the coating was soggy. The dumplings were cold and tasted raw. Sadly very disappointed.
I really wanted to like this place because it is so close to where I hang out but I didn't enjoy my experience. The bartender was pleasant but not attentive. It took an extremely long time to get my appetizer which was filet mignon sliders. The bun to meat ratio was ridiculous. The meat was the size of my thumbnail and had way too much lettuce on it. Then I ordered the Thai basil fried rice with chicken. That came out really quickly and I was happy about that. That is until I started eating it. The chicken had an odd texture and it made me feel like it was under cooked. I couldn't tell because the restaurant is so dimly lit. I decided not to risk getting sick so I gave the dish back to the bartender. I was very surprised she didn't ask me if there was an issue since there was very little eaten. I then had to wait another 10 minutes to get the check and pay. I will never go back.
Zero starts if I could, five of us went. We all all ordered the spicy tuna roll. All five of us got food poisoning from it, we called them and the lady went back and forth with one of my friends over the phone for 5+ minutes, saying it wasn’t their food that got us sick, it was the one alcoholic beverage we got. They told us they would only refund for our sushi rolls we got which was totally fine. Although It was weird how she was going back and forth over the phone for a good bit, we were all sick and my friend told her that several times.
Why does it matter how many rolls I order? Bring my food and mind your business waiterboy smh.
My family and I came here last week and had a terrible experience. We weren't greeted in the front so we had to look for someone. The server that took our order he was rude. We ask for hot sauce and didn't know that was an additional charge to our food. It wasn't told. You tell people if there's an additional for things. Then a certain type of group enter and was greeted and accommodated very well. He was nice and welcoming to them compared on what we've received. We felt uncomfortable and left. I'll make sure my family and friends not to come here if we're treated that way. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL.
Food was decent. However, the waiter overstepped by commenting on my friend’s order and questioning whether it was “too much for one person.” Such remarks are inappropriate and unprofessional.
I’ve been a loyal customer of Amber, always appreciating the food and prices. However, my recent experience with the pineapple fried rice for takeout was incredibly disappointing. The dish was missing its main star—pineapple. The pieces were so microscopic that they were barely there, and the dish lacked any flavor of pineapple. Instead, it was loaded with cheaper vegetables, which felt like a cost-cutting move. I understand that the cost of ingredients has risen, but compromising the quality and authenticity of dishes is a major mistake. I would rather pay a slightly higher price for a robust, flavorful dish than pay the same for something subpar and unrecognizable. This experience has made me reconsider returning, and Amber may have lost a loyal, high-quality customer.
