As always, best place to get authentic food. Fast service, I always make my own plate combo. Fried burritos are so tasty. Guacamole a must. I always order extra beans and at least 1 dozen of flour tortillas. Their tea isn't the best but, I will never give up the chance for great food just because of weak tea.
This place serves some truly authentic and delicious Mexican food. The portion sizes are large. The lunch menus included a delicious bowl of tortilla soup and I enjoy the lunch special. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch.
Always delicious food and warm atmosphere. Slow cooked traditional Mexican food.
Albondigas (Mexican meatballs filled with egg & rice) were absolutely amazing and covered in a spicy sauce that I will now be craving until I have it again. Rice was on point and refried beans were legitimately some of the best I've ever had. This hidden gem is definitely worth the hype.
OMGoooooodness!!!!! First off let me say the food? IS AMAZING!!! Saw this place on KSAT San Antonio Eats....and boy did they deliver!! The flavor! The salsa!!!!! I love it spicy and it delivered. Whatever we ordered was bursting with flavor!!!! And the customer service?!?!?!? We were treated like long lost relatives💞💞 He was so kind...so helpful....and so eager to help. 5 stars??? That doesn't come close to the rating Id like to give this place. He explained what we were eating and how it's made. Brought us a sampler while we waited to try the different sauces. And that soup?!?!?!?!?!?!?! He told me what it was but all I can remember is.....IT WAS GOOOOOOOOD!!!! I meant to take a photo to share in my review, but by the time It dawned on me to take a photo... I had eaten it ALL!!! My daughter had eaten all of hers too. But no worries....we are going back tonight💞😁 Love love LOVE this place!!!!! The food! The people! THE FOOD!!!! So many establishments could take lessons from Shortcut to Mexico. What a find!!! 100+ stars!!!!! Made it back for a THIRD time but I promised myself I would take pics BEFORE we started eating😂 Did I mention I LOVE This place!!!!!!!!
The food was so good! I was full about half way but I couldn't stop eating and I'm so glad I had sweatpants on 😂 I will definitely make the a regular spot.
Excellent authentic mexican food. My mom is from Mexico and she loved it. Prices a bit high and service was spotty but food was delish.
Man this place was awesome. The salsa is spicy as heck. I believe it's habanero based, it's very orange in color. I got the tortilla soup and tacos de alambre. The tacos were filled with thin sliced steak, chopped pork, bacon, onion, Serrano pepper and completely covered in Oaxaca cheese. To die for. Service was great, food was amazing, will eat there again. My only minorest complaint is their parking is tight for a big truck.
The salsa is very spicy!! This is the second time we came here in a week, one time before our flight and then after our flight back. The mole poblano is my favorite so far. Also had the meatballs and those were also very good, not as good as the mole poblano IMO though. My wife had the thin sliced steak and it is her go to meal here now. We both agree the horchata is the best we have ever had :)
For you Roger Creager fans out there, you know that it’s a “long way to Mexico” but I am now letting you know that I have found the official “shortcut to Mexico!” This place is not your typical Tex-Mex fare, instead it is more of the style of food from the Mexico City region. It all started innocently enough with the usual chips and salsa brought to the table. I was like, “yeah, ok, I know the drill.” Then I tasted the salsa and was like “what???” I have never had salsa that tasted this good – it was different than any I have tried around SA. They brought the heat and they brought it good. But it wasn’t just about the heat – it had quite a different taste to it. Someone at the table suggested it was probably made with tomatillos. I think they were right, but there was something else going on that gave it an awesome flavor. I just can’t pinpoint it. I had the Pollo a la Mexicana chicken breast that was served with a serrano/tomato sauce over it. It wasn’t spicy, but it was muy bien! The rice and beans that accompanied it were also perfect. Someone was nice enough to let me taste their mole verde – I’m not a fan of the regular style of mole, but this was REALLY, REALLY good. I recommend it. Drink situation: Yes, they have beer, and they have margaritas. Not sure of the rest of the liquor setup though. Service: was awesome and very friendly. I like that. Plenty of seating, nice clean place, plenty of parking – if the front lot gets full, look for the signs pointing toward the back lot. It’s right on the corner of Blanco and 410, so it can be tough to get over to the correct lane quick enough, depending on which direction you are coming from.
Food was so delicious, service was even better. Samuel our waiter, was so kind, checked up on us often and even recommended a delicious dessert. The food came out fast and was just so fantastic. I recommend the tortilla soup which is what I ordered!
I always came for the Chips and Salsa, it was amazing, the best I’ve ever had. The best in SA! I moved from SA about 7 years ago and the last time I had got salsa was about 6 years ago. I was able to visit SA again last weekend. I was thinking about it and had some time to drop by and get some Chips and Salsa. I was praying it would be the same and to the T, it tasted exactly the same! I’m so glad I bought a bigger size to take home with me, savour, and share.
Aguascalientes style of Mexican food. It was great very filling did not even finish it. Bowl of Fideo soup, taco's 3 corn tortillas covered with diced beef steak, diced chicken and diced pork. Covered with cheese. Onion and cilantro as an extra topper. The onion and cilantro can be added to the fideo soup.
I love this place. My favorite is the off menu tostada de picadillo. It's an off menu item because people often ordered it not realizing what it was that they were getting and didn't eat it. Too bad top because it's amazing. And don't pass up the tortilla soup, it's the best. When you are done pay at the front counter.
Okay listen. I live in Nebraska. I’ve spent my share of time here in San Antonio. I’m staying at a hotel close by. I woke up this afternoon and asked the hotel staff where the best “Tex Mex” restaurant is close by. He recommended this place. You’ll see in the photo why this made me laugh when I arrived. I’m so happy right now. My tastebuds are dancing. I immediately ordered a top shelf Margarita to try it. Heavy pour, delicious flavor. I am extremely picky with my margaritas and this one absolutely nailed it. I switched to tequila on the rocks after as I do not like much sugar. The chips and salsa were served promptly when I sat down. While the chips do not appear to be homemade, they are light and airy and the perfect saltiness. The salsa…lol. I can’t even. It’s tasty, got some serious kick to it. It’s perfect. They aren’t shy with the chiles here. I asked the waitress what to order. She recommended the dorados de frijole or fried bean taco. Excellent. These beans are fabulous. Then I ordered the Asada de Puerco which is spicy pork served with tortillas, rice and beans. Okay. Just delicious. Great flavor and very tender. Only a little kick n the pork compared to the salsa. The rice was perfectly cooked and the beans….guys the beans. I immediately told my husband how happy I was. Food is my love language. He’s back in Nebraska and knows how much good food makes me happy. I highly recommend this restaurant. I will be back the next time I layover here.
Hands down the BEST AUTHENTIC Mexican food I’ve ever had. Super fast and friendly service. It’s a family business and the servers are top notch and knowledgeable. Try something new; you won’t be disappointed. The margaritas are just as great. I went during a busy Friday night. No waiting for my table. Servings are large and reasonably priced! I will come back here again and again. Highly recommend.
First time there and I was amazed by the staff and food! Best salsa for sure! I was so surprised it was actually spicy and tasty. Loved it and will definitely will be back. The staff was super friendly and fast.
I tried their location in Corpus last year. The couple working in Corpus told us their other location was in San Antonio. I was visiting SA for the weekend and stopped in before driving home. I stopped in on a Monday around 1215. The place was packed, so I knew it would be just as good as the CC location. Had the cochinita pibil, it was so good! Big portions. I will be back the next time I visit! We had the pozole Rojo and Verde in CC. They were so good! If you like spicy pickled onions, you will love them here.
So good! I have missed the food in Mexico 🇲🇽 and this place is as close as you can get to ACTUAL Mexican food! Will definitely be returning
Excellent AUTHENTIC Mexican food. They’ve Been in satx for 20 years and their flavors are full and always consistent.. my mouth is watering now. Awesome Ceviches, Appetizers, Sopas, Plates and Tacos. But try the Plates cuz they are phenomenal .. everything is delicious and a full bar🍷🥂🍹🍻🍸🥃 oohhh and happy hour during the week starts at 3pm
Food and service were both amazing here. I got a tamarind margarita with a tajin rim (the next time I came here they recommended I get a chamoy+tajin rim and it is even better that way) to start with the chips and salsa. The salsa was delicious and spicy. The tamarind margarita was nice, good flavor and the tajin added a nice touch. Got the Cochinita Pibil for my dinner. Was delicious. I made tacos with the pork, pickled onions and lime. Tender and flavorful. I recommend this dish. I was attended to by two waiters. They made the visit extra special. Service was speedy. Both were very kind and the younger waiter I had was talkative and recommended me the lamb soup for my next visit. Will definitely by back to give it a try.
If you want some good mexican food this is the place to go! Delicious food always. If you are looking for a bean and cheese taco or red enchiladas go to Las Palapas. Guajillos has really good authentic Mexican guisos. The service is always great, Victor is my favorite! Also, they are now a designated Pueblo Mágico! If you know Mexico, that is a big deal!
I just came In here from recommendation of the hotel concierge if I wanted “real Mexican food” and I’m so happy I took their advice! When I was there, I happened to speak with Carlos, the owner, and he recommended I have the bisteces en chili pasilla and fideo soup! It was absolutely amazing! While I’m over here for work I’ll be dropping in a few more times! I had to take it back to the hotel since I was tired but it was just as good as in the restaurant!
Food was great serving size was enough for 2 people. Our waiter made our dinner a great experience , have to stop back and try there tacos, before our trip home
Sweet God I wish there were more places like Guajillo’s here in SA. If you want something that is familiar yet wholly different I highly suggest this authentic Mexican restaurant. Regional food from Mexico City where I was told the owners of Guajillos are from. My cousin got the Pozole, I got cactus salad with a side of fried bean tacos with fresh Mexican crema. From the first bite we were in heaven. Definitely coming back for the mole in red or green sauce or one of their very affordable fish dishes like the mahi-mahi or fresh cod. Warning their table salsa has a kick.
Had dinner with some friends here last night who were in town and I will definitely be recommending this place to other friends in the future! I only had the shrimp cocktail cause I wasn't feeling very hungry but it was good, it was sweet but tangy, a bit reminiscent of chamoy. Also had the Vampiro and Horchata which were amazing. I could take a gallon of the Horchata home and it wouldn't be enough! I did also try my friend's Nopales and they were super good, I will definitely get these next time so I can eat a whole portion! Our server Victor was very friendly and fun to talk to. He was welcoming from the start and very attentive to our needs throughout the dinner. Even helped recommend some food to one of my friends in a patient and detailed manner. :) Overall super easy going and nice to joke around with. All of the staff who talked to us were friendly and nice as well, made the environment very comfortable to be in. I hope they know they're doing a great job! :)
I went here for a quick lunch with my son. We arrived about 1130am on a Monday, it was not super busy. The staff attended to us immediately, getting us seated with menus and a drink. They brought us chips and salsa to start. I didn't try them so I'm not sure how they are. I ordered the Azteca soup and my son the chilaquiles. The soup was AMAZING. Huge bowl, I couldn't finish all of it. Delicious flavor, served with cheese, avocado and dried pepper.
The salsa is spicy (in a good way), drinks are strong, and the service is fast and welcoming. You won't find queso or text mex here, but you will find tasty, unique Mexican dishes. I had the mole Verde calabazas. The mole Verde is something I've rarely seen on menus, and is earthy, mild, but complex. Paired with the calabazas (zucchinis), I had a lighter yet filling meal compared to something smothered in cheese. No regrets - it was delicious, and if I lived nearby, it would be a regular part of my rotation. Highly recommend for other vegetarians like me- their beans and rice are also lard free, for those who may be wary.
I was visiting from Austin and wanted some good Mexican food, not Tex-Mex. I'm so glad I found this place. The salsa was insanely good; very spicy, but the garlic flavor was addictive. I had to take some home with me. The pozole verde was hearty, well-seasoned, and the serving was huge. Perfect for a rainy day. The waiter was also very attentive despite the restauraunt being busy. I'll definitely have to come back and bring the family.
One of the best, authentic Mexican restaurants in San Antonio. Everything was fresh and delicious! The guacamole is addicting, make sure you order more than 1 if you don’t plan to share! The salsa packs the perfect heat and flavor. Tasty Frozen margaritas to go. Overall, this is one of our favorite take out spots around.
Foods are tasty and service is just very great there! Plates are very big too so that you can bring some back for another meal. Things are not the most reasonable. We got two entrees and two non alcoholic drinks and it was over $50 (including tip) so you need a higher budget for this place.
Don’t miss out! If you’re looking for that hole-in-the-wall spot serving authentic Mexican food so good it’ll outshine your mom’s cooking—whether you’re in SA or just craving better—this is your go-to. Pin it to your maps. Every time, every day, from open to close: heart in every plate and downright great service.
I have been driving past this place for years (my office used to be right down the road from it), but I never stopped in until I learned that they are serving up authentic Mexican food with a kick. That starts with their salsa which really brings a burn. It is tomatillo-based, and has a good tang and acidity along with an earthiness and some sweetness. It is close to hot on my scale and some may struggle with it. But I would order it by the pint if they sell it that way. I asked my waiter about spicy dishes on the menu and he recommended Asado de Puerco (Pork in Spicy Pepper Sauce). That delivered tender chunks of meat that were well-cooked and flavorful and covered in a tasty sauce. The Spicy Pepper Sauce has some tomato tang and just a bit of sweetness along with a touch of earthiness. It also delivers a nice kick getting close to Medium on my scale. They also brought some fresh-made corn tortillas, and those are great for making a little taco with the meat (add some beans in there as well) or just sopping up the sauce. My wife ordered the Bisteces en Chile Pasilla (Thin Sliced Steack in Pasilla Pepper Sauce), and my fork certainly ended up in her plate to try several bites. It had super-thin and super-tender slices of steak that were cooked just right and drenched in the dark brown sauce. It actually looks like a mole, but it is based on dried pasilla chilis, and it has a rich, earthy taste with a heat level approaching Medium. They had plenty more to try on the menu, and I will certainly be making some return trips. The waiters were very friendly and helpful and got our food out to us quite quickly despite the fact that the place was packed. You may have to wait if you go at a busy time, but it is worth it, and I definitely enjoyed my first visit.
I haven't been here in over 10 years due to the fact that in the past my vehicle was towed from the abandoned property next door at that time. With that said I was very happy to visit back to erase that horrible memory. I ordered the fideo soup and for my plate I order cod in tomato sauce with beans and rice. It was very spicy and very very good. Just like I remember it to be. Everything was really good and I would love to come back. Just fair warning .. if you park in the wrong spot you may be towed. Unlike when I was towed now there are warning signs everywhere.
This is the Mother Ship to the much smaller but equally delicious Guajillo's on North Padre Island. This SAT location has a nice, large menu with many authentic Mexican dishes to choose from. This is not Tex-Mex, which may surprise some patrons. If you are only comfortable with Tex-Mex, this is not for you. However, If you do enjoy the delightful tastes of authentic Mexican food, you will be amazed and delighted with the dishes here. The flavours are wonderful. The staff is very friendly and service is fast.
BEST MICHELADAS! The micheladas have so much flavor, and I loved the little bit of spice from the mixture. The food was delicious 🤤 and different in a good way. I had the mole verde! 😮 Sooooooo good! The mole sauce was outta this world. I like the rice and beans which are a perfect combination with the main course (chicken). The tacos are were fully loaded and tasted delicious. The albóndigas are like no other here ( I had just a taste next time this is what I order). They enchiladas made in mole sauce with queso fresco was good, but definitely not made like most). The service was great. I can’t remember our waiters name but she was absolutely amazing. She was attentive, frequently check on us, gave great recommendations of food options, and was very friendly (she had piercing in her lower lip). Sorry I forgot your name but you have excellent customer service. The location is right off the access road. Parking is limited. They only have indoor dinning, but it’s spacious filled with booths, tables, and a separate seating area for larger parties. Looking forward to coming back to try more menu options and get another michi 🍻.
Only my FAVORITE restaurant in all of San Antonio! Devine. Plus, Drinks are amazing. Atmosphere is fun and always brings us back. Service is non other. Definitely a place that makes you feel at home. Can't wait to go, AGAIN. YUM 🥰
This is a great place to go for something completely authentic different than the Jalisco's and the TexMex offerings. You have to try it! Robust flavors and plenty of food for your money. The service is top tier and pleasant to work with!
Hands down the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Authentic flavors, generous portions, and service that made us feel right at home. Our waiter, who also happens to play baseball, was outstanding and made the whole meal even more enjoyable. Can’t recommend it enough.
Where do I began.... Service: One of the best service provided in the industry on my opinion. We had the pleasure of being escorted and served by the owner and staff which were hands down amazing. He gave us dishes to try since we were use to "Americanized" Mexican food, he wanted to change our perspective with authentic Mexican food and he did just that!!! Food: Everything we had was sooooo good!! Portions were plenty. The drinks were amazing. I left highly pleased with not only the food, but the experience. Atmosphere: The restaurant was very cozy, clean, and very comfortable to be in. Verdict: I can't recommend this place enough, especially if you are travelers like my group and myself. You will not be disappointed!
Amazing authentic Mexican food. The complementary salsa was actually spicy and had a great pepper flavor. Menu has a great variety and the staff is super friendly. Portions are huge for the price and is well worth the short drive from the river walk to experience this food. Parking is rather tight but worth struggling with to get to the food.
Came here for lunch after getting a recommendation of their pozole. It was a Saturday afternoon, it was steady, but there were plenty of open tables. Ordered a Michelada, and Margarita and the pozole to share while looking over the menu. Pozole was definitely a good recommendation. It was a large bowl that was full of ingredients. For the meal, ordered some tacos, Albondingas, and a fish plate. For desserts, ordered the Rice Pudding and Churros. Dishes were all freshly made and tasted great. The Pozole was still my favorite. Everything was authentic Mexican Food and not Tex-Mex. Overall, good food and service.
Good mexican food and good service. Stop by to eat lunch and they have good specials.
First time here, but definitely not the last. Very welcoming, and FAST, friendly service. Great pricing from their lunch menu, with each entréecomingw a full-size soup, either fideo ortortilla, FREE CHIPS, AND DELICIOUS SALSA!. I had the Tinga & my buddy the chilaquilles w chicken. We were both very pleased w our food. Not huge portions, but enough. I liked it! Got to come back and try more. 🔥👍
My girl ordered a Paloma, which she loved!!! Ordered a second one for her. I had the 1800 Reposado Margarita, which was missing a punch. Maybe it was me who was missing it, cause I ordered a fountain coke, and that drink was on point!!! I ask Carlos to bring it to me in a glass, because those grey plastic cups, were they serve water and tea, were just not cutting it. If your a high volume establishment like them, and charge those prices, I shouldn't see any chips on those style of cups. Let's get to the food. My Bistec aka Mexicana was ok. Not to flavorful, overcooked. Tortillas were perfect!!! My wife's Bistec en Pasilla Sauce was also ok. She stated that the Pasilla was overwhelming, because they didn't sauteed the meat on the sauce, almost like making the Bistec, then dumping the sauce. I came to this restaurant on a recommendation from a friend from work, so its cool. The chips and salsa were good, salsa was super hot!!! Best part of my Guajillo experience, was our server Carlos!!! The dude was a badass, always attentive and quick smile. You know that dude takes care of his customers. Spent $57 not including tip. Was expecting more flavor. Will go back to try out other folks food recommendations and see how it goes.
Highly recommended by a friend for delicious authentic Mexican food. We went on a Friday for a late breakfast and ordered the tortilla soup and chilaquiles special. The soup was savory with roasted chiles. The crispy chilaquiles were served with refried beans and beef or shredded chicken. Went back two weeks later and got their tacos de alambre special and it was absolutely delicious! Will definitely return!!
Don't come here expecting TEX-MEX food. This place serves traditional Mexican food. We're talking Mexico City flavors. They offer a good daily (Mon-Fri) lunch special from 11am-3pm. Complimentary chips and super hot salsa. Their lunch special plates come with a bowl of sopa de fideo or sopa de tortilla. The tortilla soup is NOT tex-mex. It's made with a red chili broth, white cheese, and a few tortillas, but tasty (para la cruda). If you're watching your salt intake, you might want to skip this soup. If you're looking for a good remedy for a hangover, then this soup will hit the spot. Speaking of hangover, their Monday Michelada are out of this world! It'll have your mouth dancing!! It's NOT your typical Michelada. Their bistec a la Mexicana and tostada de fish ceviche are good. Their service could use some improvement, as we waited over 4min for our server to take our drink orders. The prices are at market average but to save money, pay with cash. The ambiance is casual. The place could use a little TLC tho. Come check them out for yourself!
Came all the way from Austin just to try their food. It was so crowded (which was a good thing cause it looked like a lot of locals come to this place). We were so impressed with the salsa, it was so unique and tangy. The ceviche was just okay - won’t order it next time but the fish wasn’t gamey which I appreciate very much. The spicy pork was awesome and the portion size was huge even for 2 people, we barely touched the tacos. Overall, good food experience, affordable and quick.
Went during lunch and got a tortilla soup with chicken. It was good but with a lot of condiments as the picture shows the dark color of the soup. A little salty. The manager offered to fix the soup or change it. The average for one person at lunchtime is $15.00. Check the sign about a 3.95% customer service charge.
I’ve been coming here for years and although they may have slipped a little, it’s still a really good place for lunch, in my opinion. I will not visit this place outside of lunch because I find it’s too pricey otherwise. Yes, the portions are larger but, for me not worth it. Lunch is where it’s at. Sadly, tea is no longer included in the lunch specials. I have always had and will always continue to have the Tacos de Alambre. They’re delicious. The plate is cheesy and warm with all the different meats mixed it. There’s a nice addition of peppers and onions to the meat that makes it so savory. I prefer my tacos with flour tortillas and, although they’re good, they are not homemade. The fideo is probably one of the better ones you’re going to find around town so don’t skip on that. Order it with extra lime. Salsa is always tasty and hot! Put some of that in your fideo as well! Chips are ok but usually stale and broken into a zillion pieces so I tend to ask for a fresh basket. Their service is good and although it seems you got more bang for your buck in prior years, it’s still a great place to visit when you’re looking for something other than Tex Mex.
Service was great and food came out quickly. Waiters and workers were nice and had a good atmosphere. However the food was sub par. The tortillas are not home made and the food was a chicken breast smothered in different sauces depending on what meal you had. The rice and beans were ok 👍. Service and atmosphere great but food not so much.
Food is okay and the service is usually great but a few times they messed my to go order I spoke with someone and offered to replace it but unfortunately we live 30 minutes away and wasn’t worth the driving again.
This place was okay. Nothing special in regards to taste but the speed of service and prices were actually pretty darn good! The parking situation is a nightmare however but that's partially my fault as I did go during lunch hour. The ambience is pretty good too so thats a plus if you are into that! The special i got was the green mole which was ok but i liked the fideo soup better...which may or may not be a good sign.
Good Mexican food, pretty authentic, but some major bummers, tortillas are not made in store, and Aguas are not natural, but the instant kind, I wonder what other shortcuts they do. But the food is good. Another downer was the guacamole, it was just the plain guacamole, no salt or seasoning, no lime juice very plain, and the small chips were no help, most were cracked into small pieces, but again the food is good. Get there early as parking is limited near the entrance, they do have parking in the back. Get a bit chaotic, when busy, the owner/Manager? Is involved with the people. Not a great place, but good.
First time there to pick up takeout dinner. Ordered an Aztec soup and chipotle meatballs as entree. The cost for this one-person meal was $41.47. Pricey (for soup and 4 meatballs) and definitely higher than what was listed on the menu. No explanation given for the price difference and I assumed maybe they had updated their prices or the attendant had charged me for an extra soup (this was not the case). I tipped before the food came out because I always tip, even for takeout. Would not have done so had I seen how it came out. The hot sauce container in the bag had spilled all over the inside of the bag. The attendant at the register saw it and said said something about it spilling all over and just put another container of hot sauce into that mess and tied the bag back up. Never changed the bag and didn’t even apologize for giving it to me like that. I left with my food container soaked in hot sauce and a pool of it sitting at the bottom of the bag. The attendant just turned and went back to her cell phone. Poor service and overpriced.
Ordered through favor. As soon as the delivery came to our office, the delivery person apologized for the leaks, saying they asked for them to be repackaged, but were disregarded then ignored by the woman at the front. After calling the restaurant myself, I completely believe them. This "owner" validated every part of the deliverers story other than being asked to repackage. Not only was the food messy, but the plates were just ugly looking. The pollo en mole verde sauce was separating showing poor cooking and was the most unattractive plate I've ever seen. It looked like they tried to package green soup in a foldable container. Just awful. Said owner spent most of the phone call arguing with me rather than even listening, never mind making it right. Even finding a middle ground if the restaurant truly was not at fault, would have required some form of interest in customer service. Poor first experience. The man who initially answered the phone should be in charge while the actual owner is away.
I order pork milanesa from Lunch menu and I ask for black pepper to season it for some flavor , AND THE Waiter TOLD ME THEY Don't carry it. I CANT BELIEVE a Restaurant kitchen without pepper???. HE.OFFER ME A SPYCY SALSA INSTEAD
Not authenic at All. Fideo was watery and very thin. The rice tasted packaged, beans taste like from a can. The mini tacos meat were very dry with the only Salsa available will burn your taste buds off. And I'm Mexican and can usually take the heat .. lol... This one is coming off the List... Come On San Antonio!!
First of all if I could put no stars I would but I’m putting a 1 star. So let me tell you I spoke to a supervisor name Michelle and she want to friendly that’s besides the point. I’ve never been there until today and I got the lunch special. It was the chilaquiles with refried beans a steak and fideo. This was the worse of the worst. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I don’t know how this resistant still has so much business. Please do not go eat at this restaurant. I threw my food away and would never go back even if it was free. The steak was dry and hard as a rock and zero flavor the fideo was disgusting . It had more broth than fideo and it didn’t have a good taste. Omar do not go to this restaurant!!
I went here believing the positive reviews.......they are wrong this place is 🗑️ I never had anything worse in my life I feel taken advantage of with this restaurant.... everything was horrible flavorless nothing was decent beans tasted from a can rice was nasty meat was just cooked with no seasoning not even salt......stay away 💯 I paid 35 I was better off donating that money!!
Unfortunately the food this time around was not very good. The chicken was pounded so thin that it was overcooked making it tough, the serrano sauce had no flavor or spice, and the rice tasted pre-packaged. The mole was decent but the chicken was prepared the same way, pounded thin and it got over cooked. The tacos dorados were probably the best thing I ate there that evening. The waiter was super apologetic and even told his manager. The manager never came to our table to speak with us. Instead they sent the same waiter back to tell us that he is sorry our food wasn't good. I havent been there in a long time and I probably won't go back. Im sorry this place used to be really good. I don't know what happened.
We stopped here on Valentines Day, the waitress was very rude. I love Mexican food, but couldn't understand anything on the menu. When we asked her questions about it she just laughed and walked off. We ordered drinks while trying to decifer the menu. She brought out a VERY sour Horchata. When we complained and told her it was sour, she laughed. We got up, paid for our untouched drinks and walked behind to the Japanese steakhouse, which has amazing service and food.
I would like to start off by saying I have been a local reviewer and a connoisseur a lot of local restaurants. This place has been on my eye and have never had the opportunity to visit this establishment until today. The service was absolutely terrible the server was in such a rush to get everything ordered I had to tell her to back off until I was ready to order. Being that this is supposed to be a shortcut to Mexico we ordered some mole which was nothing more than a pan seared chicken topped off with some sauce. Definitely not what we call mole. The beans tasted like they were out of a can and the rice was nothing short of that either.Next we order what's on the photos and was very disgusted with it all. What I wanted to ask a few questions about how the dishes were served and prepared I could not get any service and I found my server at a glance making affectionate kisses to another employee there on the side station, just smooching away as if they were on a date.At the end of my meal excused myself and went to the restroom and found the employees drinking in the men's room. This place is absolutely disgusting do not waste your time or your hard-earned money going to this place.
I’ll start with the good. The food was excellent and the service was very fast. Now on to the bad. When we sat down the server promptly told us about the “$3.00 margaritas” and listed off lime, strawberry, and raspberry. So I ordered a raspberry one. We then ordered two $4.95 bowls of Fideo which we got quickly. The problem came when the bill did. The $3.00 Margarita turned into $7.95! And the 2 bowls of soup turned into $9.00 each totaling $18.00 for soup! When I asked how our $13 bill magically made it to $29 he was quick to point out that only the lime was $3 and apologized for miscommunicating that but did not change the price. He also pointed out some poorly labeled print at the top of the menu stating large soup was $9 but we never asked for the $9 size we just asked for the soup and were never told there were 2 different prices. Every menu I’ve ever looked at has both size /prices listed next to the item if there is a difference in price/size. I pointed this out to the waiter as well and he shrugged and left. I assumed he’d correct our bill for all the miscommunication that he was caused but he didn’t. This was our first and last time here. With many other excellent restaurants in San Antonio we will take our money someplace more honest with their pricing and less deceptive wait staff.
