This is one of West Oakland’s favorites, and to be fair, is quite hidden from the naked eye — unless you decide to explore the area in more detail. This coffee shop is honestly unique in its own way — the Western kick of coffee meets the Mexican style of pan, tamales, and more. Upon going there many times, i find that they have a wide variety of things that none other coffee shop can do better: horchata lattes. To my surprise they’re honestly one of the best in the area. They source their coffee beans locally from Oakland and Hayward, and their syrups are made from scratch. In addition, they get their tamales from a local tamal factory in Hayward — which tastes authentic and of region. They also give really good hospitality, and the design of the coffee shop is very modern and chique. I will say the down side of this coffee shop is that they have limited seating inside, and the outside seating is usually pretty cold, so some people just take their food & drinks to go. Otherwise, I’d recommend this place forsure!

Cafe is right next to Pac Pipe. Perfect place to get that caffeine fix before climbing. Cute interior with seating inside and outside. Free parking available in front but can get busy later in the day. Staff is super friendly. Restrooms with code on the side. I had the cappuccino which was the perfect balance of milk and espresso.

It’s easy to say that this place is the best coffee shop in Oakland. They take a really good care of the craft. The beans they offer are really nice and well sourced. And the variety of single origin coffees they offer in the store is amazing.

we ordered the mazapan latte, matcha latte, and a guava coyota. everything was great. the mazapan wasn’t too sweet, and BOY, the coyota was delicious. i’ll be dreaming about it.

Amazing. Great coffee, great matcha, great freshly squeezed orange juice, heavenly tamales and other pastries….also kind staff despite how busy they are. Also, love how they wove in their family legacy and background into the decoration and overall vibes of the shop. This sounds so stupid and I swear I am a coffee-lover but OH MY GOD THE TAMALES. I can’t stop talking about the tamales. Also their iced horchata latte is divine. Anyways, if you are in Oakland this coffee shop should be on your list.

Love this place. Great coffee and some good hang out spots. An okay work cafe if you sit outside on the picnic tables. Inside is better for a book or a chat as the tables are small and low.

I ordered a single origin shot and after serving me, they re-dialed and offered me a better shot! The first one was already a great pull tbh but I appreciate them going out of their way

They have the tastiest coffee and tamales. The service is always friendly, and the outdoor seating space is lovely, especially on a sunny day. I definitely recommend it if you're in the area.

Amazing coffee and their pastries, tamales and chilaquiles are on point. Love the guayaba coyota (especially warmed up), their chicken tamal with salsa macha and the iced café de olla latte. Don’t get to go that often but when I do it is such a treat. Music is always good and the staff is super friendly! Highly recommend!

Seek and ye shall find. And now, I have learned there are two places offering Mazapan lattes. Oh boy ❤️😘 I love that the mazapan isn’t ground into fine powder here. Yumm

Love Proyecto Diaz! Such great coffee roasting technique and the baristas expertly make up the drinks of your choice. They’re also happy to suggest different beans to your taste.

Grab a latte and a fire ass tamale here. Perfect little breakfast. Beats a muffin any day of the week. The tamales are so good, they should sell them by the dozen. But I don't think they do. I'll have to ask next time.

This kind of small family business is the reason I moved to Oakland. With roots in Oaxaca Mexico, they’re working to keep family-run farms like their grandfather’s alive. Amazing staff, yummy drinks, real family photos on the walls…what more could you want?

Cafe de Olla latte was delicious. It’s located in a great space as well. Note that parking maaaay be limited but you can bike** or take transit too. Also tried the Champurrado, which had a bit more maseca than expected, for thicker texture. I really enjoyed it! Coming again for sure! ** Nelson Mandela has a median walkway w/cross street stops…. where you can bike, if you feel uncomfortable in unprotected bike lanes.

Since discovering this spot earlier this year it’s become an essential part of my day. The quality of the product and hospitality is something I can’t find anywhere else. I’ve shared many kind words with all of the staff members and each visit is always a daily highlight. Thank you proyecto staff <3

Everything is great. It's a little on the expensive side but oh well. Really tasty, fast service, great espresso. Their beans are also great for drinking at home.

I tried their iced mazapán latte it was just okay. I think this might be better hot if you wanna give it a try. But I would recommend you try something else if you’re looking for something iced! Their tamal de pollo is good it’s not spicy doesn’t have a “usual” taste but it’s rich with flavor idk— it’s super tasty!!!! I appreciated this new experience. Overall I really love this place it so peaceful clean and good vibes. I’m excited to try the rest of the menu!!!!!!!!

I’ve been to 25+ coffee shops in the bay area and 50+ across the country. This ranks in as my number 2 in the US. Everything i’ve tried is spectacular. So much attention to detail. They lean into the vibes from the menu theme to music to decor and trinkets. Mazapan latte will be my final thought before I pass onto the great beyond. Getting a pacific pipe membership simply to force me to be at this coffee shop more often.

Place is cute, drinks are great and pastries are delicious For my horchata latte lovers, the vegan version is not it. I knew that ahead of time and was informed. I still got it but wasn’t that sweet delicious nectar that we all love. otherwise. Delicious place and would come back

Absolutely love the atmosphere of this cafe! Decent indoor seating + ample outdoor seating, if the weather is nice. Lots of people here doing work. Also just next door to Pacific Pipe climbing gym, which is a plus! I tried the horchata latte — wasn’t a huge fan, but it wasn’t bad. A bit more watery than I would have liked. Service is great! Workers are all very friendly and helpful.
