Avis sur Ramen Tatsunoya Pasadena
I had the Kaku tonkatsu. It was one of the most amazing dishes I've had. The broth was super flavorful. They boil the pork bones for 15 hours to make the stock. The original stand is in Japan and the chef opened this one in 1999. It's on the pricey side, but the portion is huge. There are no substitutions to speed up ordering, but you won't need to substitute anything. As I said, it was probably top 3 of best things I've eaten, and I love to eat. Hit this place up, but be aware that there is sometimes a line down the block.
Came in for ramen with classmates after a Museum trip. I got the Jun Tonkotsu and it was delicious! The broth is so flavorful and rich and the pork so tender and fatty. Loved the mushrooms in it; I recommend you sprinkle a good bit of sesame seeds in it and a little vinegar, makes the broth even more yummy. The service was excellent! The staff were very nice and made sure we were all set. Definitely one of the best ramen bowls I've had, I cleared the entire thing. ✨ Coming back for sure!
Absolutely delicious. The toppings are separate. The broth is rich and delicious. I ordered extra chashu and if you ask for red ginger they'll bring it to you on the side. The flan was okay. I chose macha and the shot on the side is a really nice touch. It's not on the menu. Really nice setup. Really clean bathroom. Will definitely be back.
I went here specifically for the special Tatsunoya roll that the LA location doesn't have! One of the best sushi rolls that I've ever had, which surprised me since the protein is chasu, not fish! The sauce on the roll combined with the flavor of the chasu is so good. The kids loved it so much that we came back for more.
Good ramen joint that was near my hotel. Saw the lines at night and ended up here for an early dinner. Got the spicy tonkotsu which reminded me of a spicy tantan ramen I get back home. Main difference was cha siu was slightly more flavourful, and the broth had so much fat in it you could see the fat chunks floating around If you don't have awesome ramen where you live I'd definitely reco you try this
Love their food here! My daughters and I got bored so we drove around Colorado and fair oaks and we found this gems 💎! We ordered gyoza, ramen (my youngest one absolutely loved it!!), my oldest one she order this sushi, can't remember what it was she order but man it was different and delicious! And I wanted the Matcha ice cream dessert but my youngest one ended eating it (she didn't even like matcha😄) and ordered another one, that tells you that she really like eating here! I couldn't agreed more! Atmosphere is awesome, our server, she was awesome too! Super friendly and happy with the service! Will definitely going back there again to see out waitress and for their food. Thank you soooo much!
Edit: Been coming here for a few years now. Still the best ramen ever. They’ve been in Japan for 20 years, and this location was their first foray into America. So glad they chose Pasadena. Speedy service. Best ramen I've had in forever. Not a big fan of their green iced tea,but I guess it was "authentic." It was powdered not brewed tea.
Absolutely delicious ramen in Pasadena with a limited menu but many specials to try on a rotating basis. I went to Ramen Tatsunoya in Japan and loved it. While I’m not sure if this location is affiliated with the Japanese chain, the ramen is nearly as good. Will definitely be coming back here.
Beautiful ramen like never seen before!!Brilliant colors were produced with the natural coloring butterfly bean tea. NOT Artificial. The broth with the soup stock of seafood is very delicious‼︎ If you squeeze the lemon, the color will change. It's like magic! It's more fun😊 I really like this ramen👍👍👍
It is delicious and we were wandering around hungry looking for somewhere to eat and everything was closed. Katie, the server here was sweet and took our orders even though it was near closing time like 4 minutes till. The soup was great I loved the soft boiled flavored egg. 2 soups (1 light, 1 rich) 2 Mexican cokes, flavored egg, extra pork, extra noodles, and a roll: about $50 and great service.
place reminds you of an authentic Japanese ramen bar. also, they have a great selection on entrees and appetizers. prices are not too high.
Went on a Sunday around 3pm . There was no wait even though most tables were taken. Our waitress, a young Hispanic girl, was very nice and attentive. The food came out about 10min after we ordered and was flavorful and hot. They do not validate parking so we ended up paying $10 for the parking structure down the street. Definitely recommend this place.
The food is amazing, I have been coming here for many years already. But tonight was unacceptable. I was put on the spot in front of the workers and customers and in front of my family! This little spoiled kid throwing her tantrum saying with an attitude (am I paying cash because she does not see a tip on the receipt!?) then she goes ranting saying that if I can spend over 80$ on food I can leave a tip! I had spent my last of my earnings trying to end the night good with my family and she goes and blows it all away. Not sure if this brats name was Elizabeth but she needs too be trained because if she keeps this up she will get no where in life. But hey :) food is amazing as always, keep up the good work
Awesome noodle experience. The “default” is Koko Tonkotsu (pork noodle soup), which comes with lots of vegetable sides (and you can add more — I added corn). You can super-size and go for eight slices of pork if you are hungry. A very rich and tasty broth. I also had garlic shrimp on the side, which were good but not as amazing as the main dish. An other interesting idea is “kaedema” (noodle refill), but honestly there plenty of solids in my soup already! This place can be busy (had to go elsewhere in the past as the line wrapped around the block), so when they are not busy it’s a great time to take the chance. Also, green tea is pretty much mandatory with this food, skip the modern soda alternatives.
Seating for more than four people can get difficult here because of how busy it can get. A booth can hold six but very limiting since they do not have them any big booths. Great place to go eat. The ramen shop they get really busy. The people who work there are very nice and teach you promptly. The layout has three four-seater booth. There's bar seating. And there is a center table that is similar to bar seating. I had one thing noodle light broth for the Jun katsu noodles and there's also the richer broth with thick or thin noodles. The food is fairly priced and the food is tasty. Straightforward ramen shop must try the kodama which is the extra noodles. Chasu noodles for the extra is the best one to choose out of the six. The cost is only $1.70 and for thick noodles is $2. Parking can be a little hectic. There is street meter parking and structure parking. There's one right next door Don't know if exact price for the structure parking, but if you're willing to pay just $1 for the first 2 hours at schoolhouse parking structure I was it just to go there since the walk isn't too far.
Probably the best tonkotsu ramen in greater Los Angeles area. Broth is rich and flavorful, meat is tender and delicious. Maybe the noodles can be better, and having the egg as default. Overall, highly recommended.
There’s something so compelling about a place that chooses its best items, and strips everything else off the menudo perfect those dishes. Their pork roll was one of the best sushi rolls I’ve ever had, and their ramen was everything you want and more. Complex flavors, delicious broth, fresh veggies, great noodles and I always love a place that lets you pay to refill noodles. Not to mention the space is beautiful inside. Its design is very true to the Japanese culture and they’ve done a brilliant job of providing a true ‘Kando’ experience
I had the CHASHU BOWL W/ YUZU MAYO - it was absolutely delicious. The meat is lathered with a savory, somewhat smoky sauce that compliments the yuzo mayo beautifully. I ordered another to take home and have for dinner. Only $7.50! We also had the homemade gyoza which were lightly fried to perfection. The staff greets you in Japanese as you enter and leave. Our waitress was very friendly and kept up with water refills (4× for me).
Wow, this is the best ramen I’ve ever had! The broth is so rich in flavor without it feeling heavy. Every sip is rich and bold! I love adding sesame seeds to my ramen for an extra layer of texture. The chasu is always warm, tender, and it practically melts in your mouth. I also add an egg, and it comes out warm and soft! The noodles are tender and great. I love the house made gyoza—it’s savory and perfect amount of crispy. I’ve tried so many ramen places in NY and LA, and this is my favorite. I come all the time and would 10/10 recommend!
The best ramen shop you can find in all of downtown Pasadena. The prices are on the higher side but fair in contrast to the area. The Koku Ramen with extra chashu was the choice with the broth and noodles packing a rich umami flavor and chashu being one of the most tender pieces of pork I’ve ever tasted with only Kitakata Bannai Ramen being the only other restaurant with such amazing chasu. This should be your go-to ramen place in Pasadena.
Great ramen, and great service. Two ramen noodle types (egg based, and rice based). Rice based seemed to be the table’s top pick. There can be a long line outside, but usually the line moves quickly. We got the light and spicy(miso base) ramens. They were delicious. Tasty mushrooms, and awesome pork. We also grabbed the gyoza. They were crispy and delicious; we loved the flat pan crisp finish. Highly recommend. Best parking (90 min free) is south of Colorado off Green. Enjoy!
I’ve been searching for a good Japanese noodle spot for a while, and I finally found one. I ordered the Koku Tonkotsu Ramen with less sodium since Tonkotsu broths are often quite salty to balance the richness. I really enjoyed its deep, flavorful taste. If you prefer a lighter, less fatty broth, the Jun Tonkotsu might be a better choice.
I finished a big test, and my mom took me and my three younger siblings (including our dog Athy) to Old Town Pasadena. We walked around on a mini, fun window-shopping spree. I found myself craving warm broth to counteract the slightly chilly and rainy day. A quick Yelp search revealed a couple of ramen shops nearby, and so we came upon Ramen Tatsunoya which happened to be the closest one nearby. We were hesitant about entering since we had our dear dog Athy and was unsure if we could bring her in. The people at Ramen Tatsunoya were incredibly accomodating. Granted, she is a kind dog who stayed very still next to mom and patiently waited for us to have our food (insta: @athythelabradoodle). I felt we were very looked after as customers, as different servers checked in with our table regularly. I liked that! We each of the originals - and they did not fail in each being uniquely special. Our order was as follows: * 1 Koku Ex Chasu - meaty, rich, reminded me of chicken noodle soup but with Chasu. * 1 Spicy - the spiciness is of typical ramen but the taste is tangy and almost resembles jjampong (if you know, get this entree!) * 1 Jun - indeed hits the sweet spot of being right in the middle of Koku and Spicy. If you find yourself conflicted between getting the two, I highly recommend this - I got this for myself. * Gyoza 8 pcs - we got this because it was a ‘Chef’s recommended/special’ on the menu. It did not fail. My sister found a whole garlic in hers and we began to notice how adding garlic is one of the ways the gyoza leaves a Good lasting impression in your mouth. The gyozas were soft too! * 1 Tatsunoya roll - An explosion of crunchy flavors. The chasyu had the softness of imitation crab meat and the smokiness of wild salmon. The Chasu will melt in your mouth! The noodles completely soaked in the base soup. Everything fit together so well. Summary: Good Ramen for a Night Out.
If you know me you know I love ramen. Hands down my favorite food. I stopped in on a cold rainy day and this place hit the spot. The service is excellent. The food felt like I was back in Japan. Noodle are perfectly cooked and the broth was smooth and rich. I rarely ever give 5 ⭐️ but this has earned every single one. Please give this place a try.
There are a ton of Ramen places that claim to be “authentic.” but end up being watery, salty, lacking taste… not this Bowl! The pork was tender, the soup was delicious and topped it off with some green tea! If you want to try a trendy but genuine experience. I would recommend this place!
Above average ramen place. There is always a line outside so it must be very popular. The pink rice sushi is one of their most unique and popular dishes. The ramen is very nice and delicious. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the interior is clean. A great spot in old Pasadena for food.
From Houston, I can get equivalent or cheaper ramen at similar quality. But for near LA, the price and service are excellent. Stopped in on a recommendation and waited 30 minutes in a line on a Friday night - not sure if I'd do it again, but the service was fantastic (even gave us a to go cup for our leftover green tea).
Went here a little while ago while going out and about with my girlfriend in the pasadena area. We were looking for a quick ramen spot on the fly. After seeing the place and passing by it many times, curiosity had gotten the best of us and we went to the soot to eat. Easy to say we got way more than we bargained for. The spot is placed well arpund other stores and the ramen is absolutely delicious. The best part is that for the price, it is a very very large portion. The menu is quite simple and if you mamged to leave a lot of soup behind and eat the ramen and the extras, they allow you to refill the bowls for a fraction of the price. However, with how big the bowl is, you wont need seconds. The soup is delicious and the servers are very attentive. If you happen to be in the shopping area of pasadena, go to this ramen spot!
Excellent food. We got the koku tonkotsu ramen with the extra flavored egg and the broth was so flavorful and rich. It seems like they boil their pork broth for many hours. Hints of garlic, spice, green onions, mushrooms. Most of their noodles are thin which I love. We also got the gyoza which are dumplings. They were juicy and crispy at the same time. The insides are well seasoned and cooked just the right way. The service was good. The food came out fast. Parking is available in one of many Pasadena's public parking lots. They also offer alcohol here. If that is your taste! A+ from me. Would highly recommend!
Watching their ex char siu ramen from 15 to 18 and now $20 a bowl, I have mixed feelings. It is located in a shopping street in the center of the city hall, so it is expensive. I visited on a Thursday night and was delighted by the service as I waited in line for only eight minutes alone, in a place with no seats but heating, air conditioning and a canopy. I ordered koku ex char siu ramen with scallion, bean sprouts and fungus, but I've been to so many ramen restaurants that I've never seen an egg in the ex version. It costs an extra $2. What's even more incredible is that this $22 bowl didn't fill me up. I am not a person with abnormal food intake, go to many stores are full of one bowl of noodles, but this bowl of noodles really only let me eat seven cents full, I had to spend another $2.50 to add noodles, the thin noodles only cost $2 but I was too hungry, add noodles with a free vegetable, finally, full, thanks to $27 (with tax). I'm sad to lose an affordable after-work canteen, but it's still the best place for me to celebrate the holidays, and I hope they do some promotions owith.
The best Ramen, love it when they have the curry ramen and the new vegan ramen is so good. Quick kind service, efficient hard working cooks, great place to be
Never a disappointment if you want mouth-watering, savory, sweet, fat melting chasu that has been marinated prior to being placed atop your ramen. The eggs are also marinated prior so u can order many and have them out fast!! Perfectly soft boiled, and they give that already perfect broth that extra zing when mixed into your ramen. If you add some cheese with this, you're golden for a heavenly time!!! It's great to go for dates, with groups, or even solo. If you like spice, they have apicy options! If not, you can enjoy the Koku-extra chasu like i do! Even as I type this, i just want more ramen!!! I left so full amd warm but dang. After one day, i now wish i could have another bowl with the works!!! I dont normaly lile pork belly but their chasu is just so well done. Even compared to other ramen places, this one still stands alone in how good it is.
Came here today with a friend to try the newly opened Tosakko Ramen in downtown Pasadena. The location is super convenient and the ramen was delicious. The broth tastes freshly simmered and very rich. Also shout out to the chicken breast — so juicy and tender! Definitely a great new ramen spot. Will be back.
The place is always busy and very hospitable. I love the chicken wings and noodles. The broth is very flavorful and fulfilling to the tastebuds. My favorite noodle spot! Enjoyed this place for the last couple of years living here in Pasadena.
Delicious food, excellent service. Is a small restaurant and sometimes you have to share table with other customers and be ready to wait for a table but is so worth it. This is my favorite spot for Ramen other places can't compare 😋
Great price for the quality of the experience. Their noodles may not be my favorite, but all of the ramen broths are excellent. Don’t be scared if there’s a bit of a line at the door; they get people in and out quickly. The servers are all pretty hardworking, it’s just seems that some of them have a hard time understanding what you’re saying.
When I came back from Japan, I was searching for a decent ramen place. This is it. Always fresh hot steaming ramen. I like the noodles they use. Thinner, like angel hair. Solid every time I come here. Line up outside during busy times to wait for a table, but no longer than 20min.
I came here in a Saturday evening. There was a short line. Waited 10 min. The place is nicely lit. Me and my daughter ordered the same thing. Crispy spicy Chashu wraps and KOKU TONKOTSU. THE TAMEN IS GOOD. ITS DELICIOUS. I took a pic to show I finished the whole thing bit because I was hungry , but because it was good. I have to come back to try more. But they won’t disappoint you. My daughter approved this review too. The wraps are tasty. They’re small. Just for one person. Get 2 orders of you like them. This is one of the best ramen in LA county.
Very yummy ramen in Old Town Pasadena! We had no wait time for a table even though the restaurant was quite busy on a weekday. The menu options were simple and the food was hot and tasted great. The extra additions were a bit pricey but the soup itself was enough. I highly recommend their classic Koku Tonkotsu, it has a super rich broth.
We knew this place was good because the line of people waiting to get it. As a party of 2 we were happy to be bumped to the front of the line and snag a bar seat. I love the open kitchen layout where you can watch the food being prepared. I ordered the spicy miso tonkatsu and teriyaki wings. I highly recommend the wings! Never have I had wings that were crispy and saucy and juicy!
I went here on Friday with my parents. The crispy spicy chashu wrap was surprisingly good, not too spicy and perfectly crunchy. I got the spicy miso tonkatsu and was full by the end of dinner. I think I chose medium for the spice level, I don’t remember. The tonkatsu was hot so I mixed the soup until it was a bit cooler. It was a bit loud but that’s because it was packed. The waitress was kind and patient when we were ordering.
Ramen Tatsunoya is a Top Notch ramen Restaurant. They nail the Four main pillars of ramen quality - Noodle quality, Marinated Egg, Broth, and Protein. The noodles are great, egg is exactly what you expect from a top Ramen restaurant, broth is perfectly balanced with plenty of flavor, and the protein was superb. On my next visit I would go light on the green onion since the broth is so flavorful as it is. I would highly recommend checking out Ramen Tatsunoya and I most definitely will be back. Bonus they are open late!
Ramen Tatsunoya is hands down one of the best ramen spots around. The broth is rich and full of flavor without being too heavy, and the chashu pork is perfectly tender with a nice seared edge. The noodles have a great bite, and the toppings green onions, bean sprouts, wood ear mushrooms, and a soft-boiled egg really ties everything together. The service is quick and friendly, but expect a wait because this place is popular. Totally worth it.
I was like why is the gyoza more expensive than the chashu bowl but the chashu bowl’s actually pretty small and the gyoza was realllyuyyu good😋😋😋😋😋😋omg the crisp on the outside…still thinking about it Ramen broth is also amazinggg!!!! Soooo flavorful but it definitely is really heavy!!! I got extra chashu on my ramen and the chashu is sooo thick and flavorful and so good…but this was my first meal of the day and it was really heavy on my system so I left like a 1/3 ish of the broth I think…so just know it’s on the heavier side even for ramen Really really good though and workers were super nice😇 best tonkotsu ramen I’ve ever had
Didn't expect to find ramen this good in Pasadena! Like others have described, the broth is rich and isn't heavy at all. They also offer a lighter version if you like your broth milder. The noodles are firm and the added toppings really add to the overall flavor. Their chashu choice is interesting as it's leaner than I normally see in a ramen shop. The gyoza were a treat and had a nice contrast of crispy and soft, especially with the cooked starch mix. Service was great and felt like what you'd get in Japan. Very happy with my meal here and will definitely come back
I have lived 5 minutes away from this ramen shop since mid-2022. And it wasn't until an idyllic PTO-fueled Monday afternoon that I bothered to check this place out. In my 5 years living in SoCal, I've tried countless ramen shops and they all were great and stand out in one way or another. I've baptized ramen as “The only soup worth eating” and this shop further proves the veracity, authenticity and validity of that statement. The broth is rich, the pork chasu is cooked to perfection, the thin noodles have the right amount of chew and the gyoza is flavorful. Nothing that you could not find at any other competent ramen shop, such as Hiro Nori, but this is located at the heart of Old Pasadena, the locale gives it a boost from 4 stars to 5 stars. I do wish they also offered Tsukemen, though.
Serious ramen. No frills. Just good basic ramen in a cozy place. Sit at the long high tables and meet new friends who also go there for the great food.

Another great restaurant in Pasadena. Great ramen, quick service and nice interior. Definitely a must go for Ramen.

The food is great! I love the ambiance and the service is too notch. The people are so nice.

Ordered the Jun Tonkotsu. Flavorful broth, and the pork was amazing. Great service too. Would recommend.
Came here on a Monday around 6pm and there was no wait thankfully. Surprised I actually have not been here yet even though I love ramen and this is walking distance for me. We sat at the bar area…
I've been to a lot of ramen spots around SoCal, and Tatsunoya is easily one of my favorites.\n\nI had the Koku Ramen with extra pork chashu and a side of gyoza--everything was excellent. The broth …
Absolutely gorgeous, perfect seasoned broth, Rahmen cooked to the point. Additionally, we ordered flaked eggs: mind blowing!!!
Great spot for a ramen fix in the heart of old town Pasadena. Ramen is tasty with a nice rich broth. Gyoza is off the charts good. Service is fast and business like. Will definitely return.

Ordered the rich Kaku Tonkotsu, matcha flan, and the spicy chashu seaweed wraps. The wraps were really good, surprisingly spicy though. The matcha flan was disappointing and a bit watery. The rich Kaku broth was nicely flavoured and not as salty as I thought it might have been. I think people who are looking for a super rich flavour will be a bit disappointed, but those more sensitive to it will appreciate the toned down flavouring (when compared to other places). A bit pricy though, but I guess it is on a popular block which is what it is. Seating is very close by to each other, there's no real COVID 19 spacing going on here, I could easily hit both people to my sides if I tried to stretch my arms. Not a fan of that.
In all fairness to them they were and always are busy. The food was delicious but was missing my egg and topping. Oh and I'm not a fan of the lettuce in my ramen. The server brought the wrong order twice. Overall, a line of 20 people deep movers a lot faster that I would have thought. I think we were done eating in less than 70 minutes after we stood in line.
I think this is solid Ramen for $17.50 The Rich Tonkatsu broth reminded me of Japan and how their Ramen is made. I got the short noodles which I wasn't a fan of, I think short noodle ramen can work really well but it depends on where they source their noodles or how they make their noodles. Their chasu, or pork, was tender and had a slightly sweet yet not overpoweringly sweet taste. It was well marinated and well cooked and had a uniqueness to it that most Ramen restaurants in California don't have (because they often just imitate chinese chasu). I recommend this restaurant, it's a place I'd bring people to eat and show them if they were in town.
Place was very packed during lunch and took a bit for three people to find seating. The service was excellent! The food came out fast and piping hot. I definitely recommend this place if you want fast ramen and want alot of toppings! Don't forget the appetizers though! The appetizers were pretty good.
First time here the other day and it was pleasantly nice! The parking garage is right close by, but it is $11 flat fee. There is a parking garage a block or so away that is much cheaper. The ramen shop is very small but brightly lit. It's pretty plain and simple decor. Had no wait time so that was nice. We got the gyoza, the spicy miso ramen, and the tonkatsu ramen. They were all really good, super heavy on garlic! The spicy ramen wasn't spicy at all, kind of disappointed in that regard, but it was nonetheless tasty. The texture of the noodle is really good and it had a good ration of broth to noodles. I don't usually like chasu but this was really good! It just kind of melts in your mouth! They come in thick and thin noodles, but I don't think they allow substitution of any kind. Overall, it is probably one of the better ramen shops I've had in a while!
Good ramen especially on a rainy day. I deeply enjoyed their spicy broth. There are a lot of counter seats so a lot of people moving in and out. Is more of a place for a quick meal, especially if you get seated at the counter. They are often overwhelmed with customers so it might take a minute to get an attention of a server. Took me a while to get the check and pay.
A special ramen restaurant in Pasadena area. The broth is so thick while the noodles are at the adequate hardness for a traditional Japanese Ramen. Veggies are added while the chasiu has two different choices regarding with the amount. When it is lunch/dinner time, the waiting time might be long as it is a popular store as the large tables are not too many. Sure to be the right choice in the area.
Was here for late dinner in Jan 2020, was in Pasadena for 1 night and picked this shop out of 3 in the area - was not disappointed. I had the winter special, with extra thick noodles, fresh garlic and thick pork - the broth is basically the same as their jun special, which is light and flavorful and I really like it. I didn't like the thick noodles and wouldn't try it again but everything else was good. The extra thick pork looks daunting relative to chasu pieces but it was really good, not as heavy as I had feared. Finished off with the matcha brownie dessert.
Food was good but not the best ramen I had. The broth was flavorful, but it was unfiltered and small pieces of bones and cartilage would be in your dish. Totally normal but I would expect a restaurant to do a better job and skimming the broth. The toppings were of good quality, especially the braised pork. We waited in line for 20 minutes, the place was packed when we arrived and packed when we left. Our order was mixed up, so we ended up waiting a bit more. It was a good ramen but maybe not worth the wait in the rain. 2 ramens and 2 Mexican cokes 55$ plus tip.
If you find yourself along Colorado Boulevard in Old Town Pasadena and hunger sets in, I suggest making a quick turn on to Fair Oaks Avenue and searching for Ramen Tatsunoya. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see a striking tree centerpiece inside the restaurant. We visited for a later dinner on a Saturday evening an hour before they closed at 10pm and the restaurant was at full capacity. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait long and were seated quickly by their friendly staff. We started with the Crispy Spicy Chashu Wraps and the Housemade Gyoza. Both appetizers/side dishes really hit the spot. In fact, I enjoyed them more than I did the Spicy Miso Tonkotsu Ramen. The ramen broth was flavorful but a bit too rich for my liking and not spicy enough. It also would’ve been nice to have the option to customize the noodle set-up. I’ve had better ramen at a few other spots, but I still recommend Tatsunoya as a great comfort spot for ramen!
I came here on a Wednesday night and the place was packed. The line wrapped around the side of the shop. I thought the wait would be hell but my boyfriend and I didn't wait for more than 10 minut…
4.5 stars\nI have passed by this spot a few times and finally stopped in to try the ramen here. I ordered the Jun, which is a lighter pork tonkatsu broth, and found it to be perfectly flavorful for…
This is one of those places that has a limited menu and is clear on not allowing substitutions - because they know what they do, and do it well. They specialize in tonkatsu (pork) ramen, and it is fl…
this place is pretty good but it’s massively overhyped. I ordered the koku ramen with an egg. the broth was good (a little saltier than my personal preference but good), and noodles and toppings were pretty good. my two complaints were 1) only two small pieces of chashu (effectively about 4 bites) came with the standard bowl. considering there’s a separate version of the bowl with extra chashu advertised on the menu, this feels like they’re intentionally skimping on the standard bowl to make you pay for the upgraded version 2) the egg was extremely soft. my ideal ramen egg is soft but jammy inside, whereas this was pretty much fully liquid inside. also tbh I feel like most ramen places include the egg? I would’ve rather it cost $17 or $18 and include 3 pieces of chashu and an egg than $16 and feel like they cut costs
It’s a small restaurant that gets very crowded during dinner time. It’s virtually impossible to practice social distancing because tables are very close to each other. And if you eat at the bar, you are literally right next to the person sitting next to you. The food was not bad. The light ramen was savory, and the pork that came with it was tender. But, the portion was on the small side. And their gyoza was a little too burnt and garlicky for my liking. However, my overall experience was good. I must say that they have very friendly staff. I might come back here again when it’s not too busy and try something other than the gyoza.
Very salty. Way much more salty than normal ramen. That’s what brings it down to 3. I added an egg to my ramen and it was amazing, perfectly cooked. Gyozas were ok, not amazing, not terrible, just ok. I ordered the food to go right there at the restaurant. It took around 10 minutes to be ready, so pretty fast. The waitress was very helpful and nice.
The menu is simple. I got the spicy miso extra chasu. The ramen was good and the spicy sauce was not too spicy. The soup was very fatty. There were so many big chunks of fat floating in the soup I had to fish some out (-1 star). The chasu was also very fatty, one of the piece I received was 90% fat (-1 star).
We got the Koku Tonkatsu, Spicy Miso Tonkatsu and gyoza. First of the broth was delicious in both the ramen bowls. I didnt get to drink the koku broth since my toddler liked it so much. Given that, the pork was almost all fat. I had two bites of meat and at this price point it should also come with an egg. The gyoza was probably one of the better gyozas we've had at a ramen place. I think I still like Silverlake Ramen and the Tonkatsu Black at Kontentsu better.
Food: decent/above-average as far as ramen in America goes Ramen: 6.5/10 Sushi roll: 8.5/10 Gyoza: 8/10 Shrimp side dish: 3/10 (overcooked) Egg side order: had shell still on it Ambiance was decent too and was a nice cozy place. Service has quite abit to improve on. The server who took our order should have noted who ordered what and been the one to serve us the food accordingly but that wasn’t the case. People didn’t get their orders and others got wrong orders. Which really ruined the mood. A simple seat map when taking orders would have resolved this.
Maybe I had too high expectations due to the good reviews. The line was long around 6 pm on Monday. The menu is simple. We had three ramen, an appetizer (too savory for us) and a dessert, which is the only dessert they have. The food was too ordinary for the prices. The waitress did not remember our answer to her question.
Parking is inconvenient as always in Old Town (no more free parking). Location is easy to find though. They have an interesting tree decoration inside. It is unique. I ordered the thin noodles ramen and regretted not getting the thick noodles. I recommend getting the thick noodles cause they are chewy and tastier. Overall, the ramen was ok. Nothing special. That is why I rated it 3 stars. It was clean and good service but the food didn’t give me any wow factor. Pricing was decent and getting extra noodles is cheap too (under $2). I felt a little cramped where we were sitting. I hate the type of seating where you need to squeeze by either sides. It’s a little too intimate for sharing space with strangers.
This place always has a line, and I don't get why. It was fine, but certainly can find better options a short drive away. It's a great neighborhood spot for ramen tho and worth trying.
Disappointing; sadly this place is overhyped. It’s trending which I guess affects people’s palates. Not to be too harsh as some of their items were great but nothing exceptional with their claim to be a Traditional Ramen spot. I’ve had better Ramen made by Chinese and Korean chefs. Service 3 stars, Ramen noodles 2 stars, broth 3 stars, Gyoza 3 stars, chashu 4 stars. I didn’t experience “kando”. But for the price I suppose it’s decent. Not worth the long wait though (expect to wait 30 minutes to an hour when they’re busy).
This was a disappointing dining experience after reading all the hype. The broth was not smooth, with fat/collagen congealing in the bowl even before it made it to the table. It was over salted. The chasu was small and also over salted. And the egg is an additional $2. This is unfortunate as we were so looking forward to having quality ramen at a highly rated place. We might try it again but will likely stick to Silver Lake.
Skip the sushi roll.. it was mid! But the ramen was solid and did not disappoint. The chashu was yummy!
It was okay. I expected a little more flavor in the broth but I still finished my ramen. I got the koku tonkotsu. Vibe was nice and it was busy on a weekday late night.

Ordered through UberEats at 5pm and the estimated delivery was 6pm. It is now 7pm. Traditionally good food but this wait is a bit absurd
Decided to come stop by here for my break because my co worker was raving good things about this place ( we also work in downtown Pasadena), and i was not happy with our service. The lady that had taken our order was rude and then another server who was wearing this large gray and white headband was very rude making faces the second I asked for a diet coke almost like I interrupted her. The food is good but without excellent welcoming service especially since I work at a restaurant as well, this was very disappointing to receive.
Disappointing treatment. I never come to Pasadena and a friend told me about this place so I spent 20 min looking for a parking space and me and my son walked in and they told me to go wait outside in a very dismissive manner and I did notice while I was inside there were several employees tables and so we went out side and waited around 15 min and then another lady came out and told me to move and I wasn’t standing in the right place to wait. I just decided to leave and take my money elsewhere. I don’t know who these people think they are.
We’ve been loyal patrons for years, visiting dozens of times with many friends from our group. Unfortunately, tonight will be our last. The new server we encountered was shockingly rude. When we politely requested a booth, we watched as he instead began seating parties who arrived after us at booths. When we inquired why he said their party sizes of 3 & 5 were greater than ours, followed by his dismissive response of, ‘I can’t please everybody.’ Such behavior reflects a lack of professionalism and courtesy that we’ve never experienced here before. It’s disappointing that, after countless positive interactions with the always-friendly staff, one server’s shocking mannerisms could sour our night out. Sadly, we’ll be taking our business elsewhere. Where a 40-minute wait won’t end in being treated like second-class guests due to party size.
I visited this restaurant recently and was disappointed with my experience. I found a hair in my ramen (they did not provide me with the new dish instead just said “sorry”) , and the spoon provided was visibly dirty. Cleanliness is very important when it comes to dining, so this was concerning. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves their hygiene standards.
Just popped in and politely asked for parking validation at 11:30am on Friday because I was delivering a package to a neighbor of theirs and I wasn't sure whether the first 15 mins was free like a lot of parking garages. The Asian lady at the front entrance snapped "NO" and sneered at me. I was wearing an Amazon vest. I actually have been wanting to eat at this place, but given how they treat a random stranger, I won't be going there and will tell others to avoid.
