I haven't been back here in a while, so I returned. BEST MEAL IVE HAD IN YEARS! They even made my dish vegetarian for me. I LOVE THIS PLACE!
The food is absolutely delicious and portions are good. We've been going here for over 10+ years. Quality of the food is top shelf!..A little expensive but they are very generous on their portions so it evens out. You won't be disappointed.
We have been coming to Heidar Baba for many years, and it truly feels like a hidden gem in Pasadena. The food is absolutely delicious – authentic Mediterranean flavors that are always fresh and full of taste. Every dish reminds us of the rich and vibrant traditions of the region. What makes this place even more special is that the recipes go back more than five thousand years, carrying the heritage of the ancient peoples of the East and the Mediterranean. These dishes have passed through millennia yet remain alive in traditional cuisine, preserved with care and authenticity. The service is excellent, warm, and attentive, making every visit a pleasant experience. The atmosphere is calm and family-friendly, perfect for both quiet dinners and gatherings with loved ones. Heidar Baba has become one of our favorite places to enjoy not only great food but also a welcoming and relaxing environment. Highly recommended to anyone looking for real Mediterranean cuisine in Pasadena.
I don’t normally give good reviews but WOW! I wasn’t expecting this. SOLID RESTAURANT! It’s worth it. I ordered the Spicy Koobideh plate and was not disappointed. Can feed 2 people easy. I’m a huge monster of a person and I couldn’t finish it. I only wish I had a shovel so I could have eaten it faster. Food was ready exactly on time, 20 mins / cost 25$ with tax but in my opinion WELL WORTH IT. I know Pasadena is nicer than the rest of LA and you should expect better quality here but HEIDAR BABA is better than Pasadena deserves. A+
The traditional place and food. That was my first time there and everything was great. Menu items were fully Persian and traditional. We got the combo kabob with rice and it was delicious. Also, we tried our friend's stew and Barg kabob which was amazing and we loved it. The food portion was good and enough for 2 people. The place was cozy and the service was also good. We definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu.
One of the best persian restaurants in LA, and maybe the best in Pasadena, mostly I think serving Pasadena City College students, since it's right in front of the college and have nice choice of healthy and affordable lunch menu. The decoration, paintings, table/chair, and the food feel like old Tehran (some refer to as good days) restaurants. Kabobs are not spicy, always fresh, and properly cooked (persian style). Ghormesabzi with Tahdig, mast o musir is must. I usually get stuck right there and can't eat anything more (right now by writing it I want to go and geab a full plate of it 😆). Most of the waiters and the chef are persian. The kabab chef (the tall tiny elder man) reminds you the grandpa in the tv series "khaneye sabz" in Iran. One important thing for some to know is they don't have alcohol serving license, meaning no alcohol, even bringing yours, no argument, and please respect that or don't go. The place is halal/kosher and has it's loyal religious customers who trust the restaurant to be halal. They have plenty of space for small parties, but haven't seen any live music.
Went here with friends for a Sunday lunch. Good food. Enjoyed the time together. Really fresh salad. Would go back and try something else.
My friend invited us to try this Persian restaurant, and I was really excited since it was our first time. I can’t comment on how authentic the food is since we’re not Persian, but for us, the portions were really big. Nice and helpful staffs. The soup had a strange taste, and the appetizers felt pricey. In my opinion, the meat wasn’t seasoned enough, and even after mashing the grilled tomato to mix with the white rice, it honestly didn’t have much flavor.
A pretty good restaurant that has nice authentic Persian food. The portions are quite big and very filling, although the kebabs are a bit bland. Staff are nice and the vibe is chill. Overall it is a good Persian restaurant in the area, but if you are willing to go to other locations there are better options for Persian food. The price is fair for the quality and portions.
We were invited to this restaurant. Food was average. I had better Persian food. It was on the blend side. They will spice it up of you tell them. Service was not up to par. The lady who took our order was confused. Our host repeated it a couple of times. They also mentioned to serve everything on a family platter. However it can as an individual dish. The host was upset as they come here regularly and this was not what they expected for their guest. We assured they it is fine. The kabob and kubbedieh were very soft and juicy. They also serve extra butter. Kids enjoyed the fried and burger. They said it was good. They have a nice spot for salah. I wish it was bigger for more people to pray. Us ladies had to wait along time till the guys are done. Restaurant is very old but clean and taken well care of.
We ordered beef kabob, and combo chicken and beef. The food didn’t have any spices, and the meat tasted fishy. The salad tasted like store brand, not fresh, and I didn’t like the soup. The food is not the greatest, so I wouldn’t come back. The service tho is the best, 3 stars only for the great server. She is clam, friendly, and kind. We asked to take the beef kabob back, and she agreed without hesitation. Best service. Thank you!
It’s my first time getting food here. We ordered at the counter and it only took 15 minutes for the food to be ready. We ordered chicken kebob with salad, shish kebob with fries and lamb fillet with barley soup. The basmati rice was plentiful, the vegetables nicely roasted and the barley soup was satisfying. The meats are tender but under seasoned compared to other places like Pardis, Sahara and Raif’s. Maybe, that’s the reason packets of sumac came with the food.
Under seasoned, over priced. My family wanted to come here and raved about the rice. I found the rice and chicken to be very bland. $30 for a plate of bland food is unreasonable. I ordered a soda for $5 with an unlimited refills, to bad for me that the waitress never came back to our table. Poor customer service can be easily offset by great food, and vice versa. When you have both, as a poor experience it is a strong motivator to not come back. Last but not least, there were no fans, and no AC on a day when the high temp was 91. Management needs to get their act together or they won’t last.
I came here for dinner. I left with a near-religious experience and a deep understanding of my digestive system. Ordered the kebab koobideh. At the time it seemed normal. Tasted dryish. Nothing suspicious. Little did I know I had just signed a contract with chaos dressed in a black dress. About 6 hours later my stomach started making noises that sounded like a washing machine full of bricks. By midnight I was sprinting to the bathroom like an Olympic athlete. At 3AM I achieved a level of speed and panic previously thought impossible for the human body. I didn’t sleep. I didn’t rest. I simply existed… moving between my bed and the toilet like a tragic side quest. At one point I sat on the bathroom floor, staring into the distance, whispering to myself: “Was the kebab worth it?” It was not. Service was also incredible… in the sense that the staff managed to completely disappear the moment we needed anything. Water? Gone. Waiter? Gone. Hope? Also gone. Honestly the kebab gave me such an intense life experience that I now know exactly how astronauts feel during rocket launch: extreme pressure, violent turbulence, and a lot of praying. Would I come back? Only if my toilet asked me to stop seeing other restaurants. 1 star because Google won’t let me give negative stars.
Service matters and when you are ignored and people that arrive after you get seated, and you actually have to say out loud “is someone going to help me” you know your “kind” is not wanted. Sad but I truely feel discriminated against. Shame on the server that did not speak even one word to me. To the establishment owners, it only takes one person and one bad experience to lose a long time customer.
