Great meal and service! We got wayy too much food (intentional) so we could have extra leftovers for next meals. Food was excellent. We enjoyed all the dishes and could taste the good quality ingredients and good cooking. The spiciness level though was not as strong as other Sichuan restaurant (maybe a good thing for some). My favorite was the lamb and cumin and fish dry fry. Service was great. Food came out so fast and wait staff and team were very accommodating. Nevertheless, reservation is highly recommended. Drinks are great - they have a bar and I enjoyed the drinks I ordered. Atmosphere is beautiful, can feel a bit cramped but understandable as it's Chinatown. Overall, we love this place!

Highly recommend this place! We ordered the chicken lo mein and beef hot and spicy bowl. I was really interested in the dry-fry woks at other tables. The lo mein noodles were delicious and chewy. The beef dish was flavorful and spicy (spice level can be adjusted). We did a walk-in during a busy time and the hostess said they are booked out a few weeks but was able to fit us in, which we greatly appreciated! The lighting and atmosphere of the restaurant were amazing!

It's so rare that we went to the same restaurant twice in the same day, but EMei is one of those rare cases. We first went for lunch. It was so popular that we had to sit at the bar area. Then we went back again for dinner because the lunch was so good we decided to check out more dishes while we were in town. Not surprisingly, it was still packed. You can tell this is a popular one. The high quality of dishes definitely helps the restaurant stand out and win the business. We like the duck blood tofu with pickled chili, the pork kidney, the crispy sweet and sour sea bass. For the appetizer, sliced beef shank and tripe in chili oil is highly recommended. Fried sticky rice cake with brown sugar dipping sauce is a good go-to dessert. The duck blood according to the manager is purchased raw from the farms directly and the cooks in the restaurant will process it by themselves. So it tastes much much better than those from the grocery store. The chef started to cook at age of 16 and have been doing so for fifty six years. The skills are definitely reflected in each dish we ordered. The restaurant started the business in 2011 and has been voted as top restaurant multiple times. It's the no. 1 on the "must go to" list of d Da Zhong Dian Ping. So it's well recognized.

This place recommended by a chinese friend and wanted to drop by first time I am in the city. so i did. I did not want to risk by ordering too much or too risky food, and wanted to run a simple test of fried rice with beef, to see if it passes texture test. Unfortuantely I had some bad experiences ieven with the fried rice. I like the texture. There was no exaggeration such as adding extra oil or soy sauce. It was simple with some egg. it was a big portion, therefore was happy for not ordering another dish because hardly finished the main dish and im not fan of taking it home

I rarely eat Szechuan food cuz it's too spicy, but here you can adjust the spice level! I was doing pretty well at level 1 & 2. The food is very well-seasoned and affordable. My favorite is the skewer. The dry wok has beef and some veggie, and is pretty good as well. Yangzhou fried rice and cabbage are standard. House special fried rice is pretty good, better than the yangzhou style one imo. The bok choy taste wise is fine but I don't like cutting the bok choy this way. Dan dan noodle is normal. I like the chili oil of the dumplings, it has more seasoning than just being spicy. Kungpao chicken is meh - not bad but probably won't order it again and try other dishes. The restaurant is not big so highly recommend making reservation.

Went for the first time and it was delicious! We had wonton soup, egg drop soup, an egg roll, chicken fried rice and salt/pepper shrimp. Service was quick and great. Will definitely come back!

What an amazing dinner experience we had at EMei! Our family absolutely loved the delicious meal at this gem in the heart of Philly’s Chinatown. Among our favorites were the mapo tofu with pork, crispy walnut shrimp, braised pork belly with bok choy and the scrumptious dumplings. Service was outstanding. Atmosphere electric, with all the tables full of conversation and laughter. We will be back soon!

We went on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the place was packed full. We waited a long time to order but once we did the food came pretty quickly. We got mapo tofu, beef with peppers, twice cooked pork, spicy fried chicken, dumpling soup, and scallion pancake. Twice cooked pork was probably the best dish of the night, but everything was excellent, with the exception of maybe mapo tofu, it was just good but not addictive. A lot to look forward to the next time we go.

Food was delicious served family style. Party of 6 and bill was under $200. We didn't get acholic beverages. Everything was fresh! Celebrated my daughter's 19th bday! Parking across the street.

I will say everything I ate here was fantastic, but my most favorite dishes were the Cold Noodles, the Cumin Lamb, and the spicy white fish. Who doesn’t love a fried dish?! The wood ear mushrooms had a wonderful tangy and spicy numbing flavor, I just wasn’t a big fan of the rubbery texture. Tea was comforting and a good palate cleanser. The potatoes were an interesting crunchy texture, and I liked them, but it was oily. Service was fine and the atmosphere was great. It is a bit chilly so bring a jacket!

Loved the traditional hot and sour soup, the beef skewers were amazing.... And the tofu was some of the best I have had. Casual unassuming location but with quality food on arch street. Catch a picture of the arch in China town and walk two blocks to restaurant

One of my go-to restaurants whenever I’m in Philly. Nice ambience with modern deco, unlike any other tiresome looking Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. Great selection of dishes, including good variety of gluten-free dishes.

Very good and authentic Sichuan food restaurant. I’ll have a meal here almost every time I visit Philly.

Food was amazing. It was our first time so we were learning as we went, think we frustrated the server a little bit. It was a weird vibe like they thought we were going to stiff them or something. Maybe because we weren’t dressed up but I could be overthinking it. In the end there was 6 of us and we ordered 6 plates plus the Den Den noodles and a few cocktails. Everything was fantastic! Parking was super easy and convenient. Will return!

Fantastic food! The sichuan spices were perfectly numbing and enhanced the flavor really well! The fish and chicken were delicious as was the mapu tofu. Staff were super nice and accommodating and the restaurant itself had a dark atmosphere with tons of seating.

Emei is an absolute must-visit! We made a reservation, and I’m so glad we did—it gets packed fast with the steady flow of customers in the area. The drinks were delicious, and we got to try a wide variety of dishes. Everything we ordered was fantastic, but when I go back, I’ll definitely be getting the skewer dish again, paired with a side of noodles. Highly recommend for a flavorful and satisfying dining experience!

Tried this restaurant out during lunch with coworkers, so there was quite a few of us. Waiters was nice, they gave us our space and came up to us about three times. I feel like that was the perfect amount because sometimes, it can be overbearing. I got the Dandan noodles with pork along with garlic cucumbers. Honestly, it was such a simple yet delicious dish! I would definitely recommend. Oh, and it’s affordable! 😉 Rate: (5/5)

The spicy home style tofu was delicious. The dried sticky rice cake with brown sugar dipping sauce was an absolutely life changing experience and I can’t stop thinking about that delicious doughy dessert! Very vegan friendly. I had no problems here. Great staff too. And quick service.

Had a wonderful meal tonight! Dining room was packed, but got amazing service. The menu is incredible, and gives you so many reasons to come back 🥰 they do gluten free as well (im celiac), so I was in heaven. The beef hot spicy bowl was so delicous ! Great flavors, with some serious spice 🌶 Thanks to Fatima, and all the staff for a great time 👍!! Will be back for more of everything 😀 🙌

Loved the food. We ordered Singapore Noodle and famous Sichuan chicken. Place was quite full.

We had such an amazing meal here today, from the service to the food we were well taken care of and it’s clear to see from the picture. We may have ordered too much food, but we have a celiac person in our group and they were on the verge of tears being able to enjoy Chinese food again. So many options to choose from and everything tasted so good! Highly recommended for those with gluten sensitivity/ allergies!

After seeing many recommendations online, we decided to give this place a try. There’s a paid parking lot right across the street, which is quite convenient. The decor is simple and comfortable, and you wouldn't immediately guess it's a Sichuan restaurant. We ordered the Spicy duck blood and Eggplant with century Egg, both of which were flavorful and had generous portions, perfect for eating with rice. We'll definitely come back to try more dishes if we get the chance.

Been here twice and both had been wonderful experiences. The food was pretty good and spicy. All the dishes are pretty big serving sizes which was worth the money. The service was pretty good, friendly and attentive. Because it was all self-ordered, we couldn’t make any special instructions. I had written no ice but it wasn’t taken into consideration. I hope that’ll be something they can change. The environment was very welcoming and spaced out, had a hint of traditional vibe to it. Overall 4.5/5.

Seriously good Szechuan food! We tried a few dishes including the Sliced pork belly with garlic, chilies, and soy sauce, Quanqing spicy chicken, Lamb Chops, Singapore noodles, and they were all good!

Gluten free options were delicious and celiac safe! You NEED to try the garlic cumber dish.

The Stir-fry Pork Slivers with Vegetables in Spicy Garlic Sauce was delicious as was the Hunan Chicken. The restaurant is narrow and deep (not unusual for a city) so not quite and intimate, but very nicely laid out and decorated. We found the robot delivering take out from the kitchen in the back to the cashier at the front, entertaining, but some might find it distracting.

Our favorite Chinese restaurant, and the food is always great. Just finished a take-out meal that included cucumbers in garlic sauce, eggplant in garlic sauce, pan fried green beans, hunan chicken, tofu in egg yolk sauce with baby shrimp (trying to expand our horizons...) and chow fun with beef and vegetables. With brown rice, which makes it feel healthier. A delicious meal.

We hosted a private lunch at Emei for Chinese New Year - and we couldn't have had a better experience! Our party was in the private event room at Emei. First, the food at Emei is delicious - it's one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Philly. Also, the team is so friendly and responsive. Leading up the event, the team was both responsive to our questions and accommodating when we had to switch our date. Also, during the event, the team was very welcoming and friendly - offering great service throughout and even giving us a free dessert at the end! Highly recommend Emei for private events - the team is amazing!

We had dinner for the first time at E Mei this week and were very pleased. They had vegetarian sweet and sour soup -- a treat because so often it is not vegetarian-friendly. We enjoyed the dan dan noodles as well as the garlic eggplant. Our server anticipated our needs and provided excellent service. We will be back next time we want dinner in Chinatown. (The location is very convenient to Jefferson Station as well.)

Went for early dinner on New Years Eve Atmosphere was so much fun-lively but not overly loud. Excellent service. My gin and guava juice cocktail was delicious. All of our food exceeded our expectations! Thoughtfully presented, large portions and absolutely delicious. Great value. We had our picky 5 yr old with us and he absolutely loved the scallion pancakes and sesame chicken. What a win! Can’t wait to return!

EMei was a great place to eat. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. We had dumplings in chili oil, chingqing chicken, stir fried tomatoes and eggs and scallion pancakes. The food was absolutely delicious and comforting. The service was great and we didn't feel rushed.

We’ve eaten here several times and always had a great experience. They do well with gluten free accommodations which can be tricky to find with Chinese cuisine. Good vegan and vegetarian options. They are very willing to modify if you just ask them. The space is cramped and it is loud though, and in cold weather if you’re anywhere near the door you’re freezing! Food definitely keeps us coming back though.

The food is always super good! We always eat family style because there’s so many yummy things we all want to try. They are also super good about being gluten free. I have celiacs and never had a problem eating here.

Id recommend and go again. It’s good but not the best Chinatown has to offer. A little pricey. Protein dishes don’t come w rice but they do offer white or brown. Margarita was good. Food was a little too salty & assuming they use msg, maybe a little too much of that. I got a headache a couple hours later . Also looked like they had a private dining area for large groups.

Would recommend making a reservation ahead of time. This restaurant gets really busy, especially during dinner hours. The food is good but I would say there are other great restaurants that will also fulfill your expectations. I would recommend the double fried mini skewers, it’s spicy and flavorful. The servers are very friendly and would occasionally check on us.

We ordered a few dishes, but only two truly stood out as five-star worthy! the Szechuan-style fish and the wood ear mushrooms. Both were bursting with flavor and perfectly balanced. The cucumber with garlic sauce & snow pea leave with garlic sauce are decent, though not as impressive as versions I’ve had at other Chinese restaurants. Unfortunately, the salt and pepper shrimp was a bit disappointing because the shrimp didn’t taste very fresh, and the seasoning was too light to bring out much flavor. Overall, it was still a good dining experience, and I’ll definitely come back to try more dishes from their menu.

We had a nice experience at Emei last night. Our starters were the star of the show for us, the Dan Dan noodles and Scallion Pancakes were really tasty. Our mains were fairly unremarkable, they tasted good( a bit on the salty side) but not standout compared to other local Chinese restaurants. Service could be improved. Our waiter was not very attentive and was not very welcoming. Overall Emei was good value for money which helped add another star to my review

Overall, the food was average, but the Dan Dan noodles were a standout. The rest of the dishes were just okay. The environment was nothing special—pretty noisy due to the crowd. I recommend making a reservation in advance. Even on weekdays, it’s quite busy, and on weekends, expect to wait in line. Recommended Dishes: Dan Dan Noodles – Highly recommended! Fragrant, slightly spicy, and really appetizing. It had that authentic flavor that reminded me of home. Stir-Fried Pork Trotters – Served with green peppers and small chunks of pork trotter. It’s decent, but picking up the meat takes some chopstick skill. Spicy Boiled Beef – Quite disappointing. The beef had an odd lamb-like taste, and it was coated in a thick layer of seasoning, which overpowered the meat’s flavor. Surprisingly, the cabbage in the dish was more enjoyable than the beef.

It was a busy night but the service felt a bit inattentive. Our server didn’t check in or give us any updates, which made the long wait even more frustrating. That said, the food was excellent. The dry wok crispy fish is especially good and everything we’ve tried has been really flavorful. Even with the service issues, the food keeps us coming back.

I was in a rush and got their pepper steak it was decent wish I had more time to try other dishes. I would say it did take long time for someone to take my food order even when there was no one at the restaurant. i think there service could be better.

The restaurant was really good. Like any asian establishment, they had a wide variety of food that I believe anyone can visit and experience for themselves. From the typical foods like General Tso Chicken to Mapo Tofu and Sichuan Noodles, I believe you can experience anything here. The service was also really great as the staff was kind and patient with our orders. However, my only complaint is the price as most dishes were ~20$. Still a great place to visit: 9/10

Had high hopes for this spot but it was just decent. A bit more expensive compared to some similar options in the area. The one plus is they serve alcohol which is not always an option at these kinds of places.

We had dinner here just last week, it was a little busy we made a reservation but i doubt it would have been a long wait. Oir server was great unfortunately I don't remember her name. The was good and came out in a timely manner. The food was quite spicy even a level may also just be my low tolerance 😅

Pretty good spot for Szechuan food though I thought it could have been spicier 🙄 Ordered: Mapo tofu with pork - 7/10 Dan Dan noodles with pork - 8/10 Hot and sour soup - 7/10 Chongqing chicken - this was the best! 9/10 Would go back with larger group next time and try more. So many yummy options on the menu.

This was my 2nd time at EMei, the food and the atmosphere were great. I did have an issue with the kitchen (not the wait staff). My companion had ordered a fried rice entree and I ordered a sweet and sour chicken. My companion's lunch came out after a short wait. It took another 20 minutes to get my meal. The waiter did check with the kitchen several times to no avail. When my meal finally came , we haf to send my companion's meal back to be reheated. The food was good and the waiter did apologize for the wait. I did assume that this was one off and will return for another meal.

My husband and I were very excited to go to the restaurant because it came highly recommended. Our appetizer of dumplings was just OK and the wood mushroom was very hot ,It’s described as pickled. Our dinners were good. I had the braised pork belly with bok choy, my husband had the sizzling beef with broccoli. Our drinks were very good and the service was great.

A
Alireza Hashemi

We were a large group so we had the chance to try many different dishes. I found an interesting pattern among almost all of the dishes and that was “under-seasoned” and “bland”, which is very surprising at a Chinese food restaurant with such high reputation. We tried Beef Broccoli, cashew chicken, Chicken Lo Mein, Black pepper beef and surprisingly they all tasted the same: no flavor and tasteless. No hint of sourness, saltiness or sweetness in any bite. The half duck was very bland and in my opinion undercooked with un-rendered fat all over. The sliced smoked beef shanks were tasteless with no smoked aroma or brined flavors. Very surprising and underwhelming. I think a sauce or at the very least soy sauce should be provided with dishes like the sliced beef shanks or duck (our server helped us with some soy sauce and chili oil). I think the kitchen needs some rethinking into the flavor profile of the dishes. That being said, the service was perfect, our waiter was very helpful and patient with us and the restaurant had a general good ambiance.

Emei restaurant has done these nasty things too many times — please stop misleading other customers by pretending this was an isolated case. I do not know any of your “makeup friends.” Adding dirty things into the food is not the first time, and unfortunately, it won’t be the last time at Emei. Instead of confusing readers with made-up details, focus on fixing your hygiene and quality issues once and for all. ———————————————————————————————— I was completely shocked and disgusted when my colleague sent me a picture of the food served at Emei Restaurant. The vegetables were clearly not washed properly, and it was obvious the cook had no sense of quality or care in preparing the dish. For a restaurant to operate this way is unacceptable. Diners are paying customers and should not be treated like animals, yet Emei shows zero respect for hygiene, presentation, or basic standards of food safety. Eating here feels like taking a gamble with your health. The lack of cleanliness, careless cooking, and complete disregard for customers make this place one of the worst dining experiences imaginable. I absolutely refuse to eat anything from Emei and strongly warn others to stay far away. If management doesn’t care about something as basic as washing vegetables, I can only imagine what happens behind the kitchen doors. This is not just disappointing—it’s dangerous.

Z
Zhang Z

Their food is generally good, and we go there often, but I decide to write a review and hopefully the owner can see it and change that they operate. They cook the lamb dish with beef. I ordered sizzling lamb dish for my husband because he loves lamb, and we cook lamb at home very often, as a person from Xi’An, I know what lamb tastes like. Even my husband can tell. I am very disappointed with their dishonesty.
