Just got done from an 8 mile hike and needed to eat some good food and drink an ice cold beer. This is the best place we could have chosen! The vibe is good and The waitress was amazing.
Best food in Orange County. Have been coming here for over 15 years.
Friendly staff and very attentive. Fast service and good tradition mexican food
Love love love this place! Everything I'm in the areanwe stop and get food. Been going to Esther when it was in the original spot in Downey. Great tacos, tostadas and my favorite Wet Green Chili Verde Pork burritos. Hidden gem, go and you won't regret it!
I've dined here a few times for lunch with some friends, and it's always been a pleasant experience. Esther's is a chill, local-feel Mexican joint with an inviting, casual space. It has booths, a couple of bars, and tables. However, there is no patio seating. There are also plenty of TVs to enjoy sports with your meal and drinks. I've tried several items on the menu and found them all enjoyable and filling. My recent favorites are the quesadillas, the crispy flautas combo plate, and the crispy shell tacos. The lunch combos are great if you want a manageable meal, but they still fill you up enough to last the rest of the afternoon. The service and staff are friendly and attentive. They check on us regularly, make sure our drinks and food are good, and clear out used dishes promptly. I can't wait to enjoy another meal here.
Excellent food and service. Their bean and cheese dip is phenomenal. The staff here are very friendly and make you feel like family. There’s a great and large bar with TV’s and attentive bar staff. The drinks are good and fairly priced and they have a decent selection of beer. There’s also a large bar in the main restaurant where you can drop in and grab a bite quickly. Even when they’re busy they work hard to get you in in a timely manner as well. We hope that Esters is here for many many years to come.
I had the pleasure of dining at Esther's Taco in Placentia, CA, and I must say that their chicken tacos are absolutely outstanding. These tacos are so delectable that my husband and I traveled all the way from San Diego just to savor their remarkable flavors. Whenever we find ourselves in the LA area, stopping by Esther's Taco has become a delightful tradition. The chicken tacos are truly a cut above the rest, and I especially appreciate the way the addition of the yellow chili pepper elevates the dish to new heights. The combination of flavors is simply exquisite. If you're a taco aficionado like us, Esther's Taco is an absolute must-visit destination.
Taco Tuesday tacos had tasty and of good size. Taquitos were okay, a bit overcooked. Service was okay, friendly but a bit slow.
I came with my mom and we both got something off of the lunch specials(during the given lunch specials hours)waters and a small bowl of tortilla soup. The lunch specials are mid, ¾ of the plate was full of beans and rice. The wet burrito and chili relleno were okay, the plates were nice and hot but the tortilla soup was watery and lacked any flavor(especially for the price). Our bill was $52. The service was great.
We have been longtime customers. Yesterday we decided to have lunch. My husband ordered a Wet Burrito and I ordered the alacarte Flauntas. I had Margarita. The waiter asked if we wanted more chips and we said yes. Our bill was $47.00. We checked the bill. We were charged +$2.50 for the extra chips and +$3.00 for the Wet Burrito 🤔. We did ask to clarify why and were told "Because you ordered a Wet Burrito." After the waiter left my husband said to me "they charged for the sauce to make a wet burrito a wet wet burrito!"🤔 IF we ever decide to return we will read the menu for clarifications & ask more questions before we order!
I think your experience will depend on what you order. The taco Tuesday tacos were larger than I expected, so that was good. Plenty of meat in the 3 I tried. They were very dry though. Needed salsa or some kind of sauce. 3 would have taken maybe 2 of the bowls that come with the chips. The chips were good. Also had a lunch special wet burrito, which was tasty and large enough even though it was a "small". The drinks were reasonable price and the beer list was decent. One gripe was the sour cream. It was $2 on the menu, was extra and didn't come with either item. Then the bill had it as $3, which is barely less than the taco, lol. It was a small size also.
We have been going to Esther's for about 4 years. It's not our favorite Mexican food restaurant but it's not bad by any means. They definitely have their own unique style of food. The tortilla chips are thicker than most places and they always serve two types of salsa with them. The service is good and the staff is friendly. The prices are reasonable.
Beware of shrinkflation at this location, portions are going down, prices are staying or rising and sides/dips that once came with dishes are now additional charge. Been coming for a while as its local and tasty, wont be returning after tonight.
My family has been coming here for almost 20 years. We know many of the servers and usually have great service. We’ve had Laura 4 times now and it ruins our meal every time. She rarely checks on us we usually have to track her down or get someone else to help us. If the food wasn’t so good she would cause Esther’s to lose a customer. When we come back we will make sure to never sit in her section again. The food is always fantastic, I’ve tried almost everything on the menu and I’m never disappointed.
I think most of the positive reviews must be from regulars. The food here is mediocre, at best, although the thick chips are a nice thing and portions are larger than most. I have also had the common issue where some menu items can be runny. The service is very inconsistent. Sometimes you get good service, other times you can't get the waitresses attention as she's hanging out in the bar talking to regulars. The restaurant itself isn't particularly clean. So many better options out there.
I am so sorry to be saying this but this was possibly the worst and most unappetizing Mexican food we have eaten in the entire country and for SoCal...i.dont even want to say anything. Flavor less burritos. Meat not too fresh and tough, watery sauce and so bad that despite adding Trader Joes sauce and Jalepenos it was inedible. It really hurt to have spent 32$ for 2 burritos. How do they even have 4 1/2 stars ? I apologize but it was too disappointing to not mention anything.
My wife ate there with a friend and brought home food for me and my son. He ordered tacos, no cheese. Just meat, onions and cilantro and green salsa on the side. The tacos were loaded with cheese and also had a ton of lettuce. I ordered a chicken fajita burrito. A fajita chicken burrito is a large flour tortilla wrapped around a filling of grilled or roasted chicken, sautéed bell peppers and onions, rice, beans, cheese, and often sour cream or guacamole. Theirs had no vegetables, rice, sour cream or guacamole. I would never go here again.
The server was rude once I mentioned it was a to go order. She handed our meals rudely and even caused our salsa to tip over and spill all over the table. She gave one of our receipts with a response we could not understand and left. Came back when she felt like it and explained horribly what she should have patiently told us in the first place. Horribly server. My work crew i brought with me were special needs adults and she was just mean.
Ordered jalapeno poppers and a Chile relleno. The cheese in the poppers were like water. The chili relleno was in some brown liquid, the chili looked like sad shrivelled up spinach. Notaste and looked like vomit. The waitress then laughed when I gave feedback and said I wanted to return it.
