Came here with a buddy after being turned away at another place for not having reservations. Sure glad we did! We were greeted and seated pretty much right away. In fact, they let us sit in what could be considered a VIP area. The table was big enough to accommodate other guests who were waiting for a table in the main dining area. It worked out great! But what about the food and drinks? Top notch! We ordered several drinks and quite a few shareables off the menu. Everything was amazing. Will be returning with my wife as I want her to experience the food, atmosphere, and wonderful staff.

On my search for dumplings during Portland dumpling week, I think I discovered the best happy hour in Portland! Not only is happy hour available everyday (food and drink specials), but the food is amazing. Getting fresh Willapa Bay oysters on special is such a treat, the crab beignets are to die for, and the pork and ginger dumpling for dumpling week had the most amazing broth. 10/10 recommend the happy hour menu and will definitely be back to try the full dinner selection.

The food, drinks, and service are top notch. It's one of my favorite places for a European style 3-hour multi course meal with friends. No wait for a table, but I had a reservation. There are so many delicious and beautiful small plates, cocktails, and great wine to sample, I could go all night. We started with a round of cocktails, then moved on to bubbles and oysters, before filling our table with small plates, and finally dessert. The house made ice creams are divine! Atmosphere is trendy modern/bland (and unfortunately a bit loud), but against that background the food really shines.

Came in for happy hour with a friend and ordered 5 small dishes. They brought them out in an order that really enhanced the wonderful flavors. Such a great deal for such incredible food.

Truly outstanding food. Everything we ate was absolutely top rate. The pork cabbage rolls were a real stand out for me, while my wife really liked the shrimp. The wait staff were attentive and friendly. An amazing experience from the moment we walked in the door until we left.

Good food and great service. Our server, James, was not pushy but still very attentive. As far as the food goes, we loved everything we ordered. Crab beignet, asparagus, squid ink gnocchi were quite special. The gnocchi, which I forgot to take picture, was not with the cream based sauce like many other places, but with oil based. It comes with a couple of squid (or octopus) legs. Recommend to add the baguette to wipe the basil pasto in asparagus dish. The portion is not very large. Order different dish to share. Madeline was comparable to that of St Jack's. Will definitely revisit.

Oysters, hamachi and albacore were all very good. Deviled eggs looked beautiful but were a bit bland. Our server was attentive and food arrived quickly. The restaurant offers a good price v value relationship.

My friends and I were blown away by how delicious literally everything was - the oysters, salmon, salad, shrimp…. And the cocktails. We ordered a lot of food and expected a few hits and misses (bc that’s the way it usually goes) but we were pleasantly surprised with each new dish. I have an allergy and my server was very attentive and accommodating. We could not have asked for a better experience. My friend from out of town said if he lived here this would be a regular spot for him. I’m so grateful I do because I can’t wait to go back asap.

This is one of my go to spots when I want to celebrate something special. The cocktails and food are to die for - especially their small bites. The wormburner is a bit sweet for my taste but the golden galaxy cocktail and the espresso martini were perfect. If you’re a sparkling fan, their sparkling rose here is one of my favorites. The oysters, oxtail croquettes, baguettes, fries, and deviled eggs are all delicious. The croquettes are my top choice and I’m not sure I would re-order the eggs. From the main plates the burger is the star!

A nice place to go and find something to eat in Portland. Close to the convention center as well and friendly staff. If walking from the convention center, it's in a little rougher neighborhood. The food was all right, definitely small portions, which, are tasty but you might leave hungry.

Wowza!🤤 It was our 1st time here and all of us definitely look forward to returning! The food and service was absolutely the best from start to finish 🤌 Our party of 3 ordered about 8 smaller plates, 2 desserts and several house cocktails, 10/10 rec!

This place gave me a food experience that I have been longing for in Portland. Decadent intimate setting. The dessert was so good I have never had something like that in my life. We will definitely be going back for all special occasions.

Genuinely one of the best dining experiences of my life. The burger was probably the best I’ve ever had, and the lobster roll was easily top 2. Don’t sleep on the carrots either, those were excellent (we ate them too quickly to get a photo). The prawns were perfectly poached, and melted in your mouth. I wish I lived in Portland so I could eat here regularly. Highly recommend.

I dined by the bar tender’s recommendation for small plates and was so impressed with every dish. Both small plates that I ordered were complex, balanced, and featured amazing fish. Cocktails were also beautifully crafted and the desert was larger than I expected.

The meal and the lovely attention to balancing flavors and presentation will live on in my memory. We had brioche and baby lettuces as a start and were immediately delighted. Two of us had the scallops and were overjoyed. Two of us had gnocchi and were enraptured. All of us ate off of each others’ plates. We were too full for dessert but had it anyway - don’t sleep on the miso black cherry ice cream or the bread pudding. Between us, we four ordered most cocktails offered and they were all lovely and somehow both simple and fancy. And after all this one more incredible praise: the meal will live on in my memory and part of what lodges it there was the incredible, detailed, kind service. Six out of five stars for service! We loved, loved, loved celebrating our special occasion there and may need to make our way back even though we don’t live in in Portland.

2024 Update: Been here nine times now since 2022, & in that time we haven't been anywhere else more than twice, & also we live 25 mins away, & also we've been most everywhere else noteworthy in Portland. That we keep coming back here hopefully tells you how incredibly wonderful we think it is. It's like Banff and Jasper where, yeah we could go other places, but might as well keep coming back here til they stop being so much better than anything else Currently the salmon with saffron/cured garlic aioli and crispy potatoes and green garlic salsa verde is unbelievably good, easily one of the best things we've ever had, a lifetime memory we'll never forget. The type of thing you take a bite of and time slows down and a smile creeps onto your face and you just want to make the feeling last forever. And you say something like "aaah oh my god this is insane". But we expect to find something new like that every time we come, they always have at least 3-4 of the best things we've ever had on the menu at any given time no matter the season. I have this ranked 3rd overall only behind Nodoguro in Portland, which is 3x the price, & Robuchon in Vegas, which is 5x the price. Ahead of Kann, Langbaan, Tercet, Le Pigeon, Urdaneta, way ahead of Jacqueline, etc etc. -- Update again: been here 5 or 6 times now and every single time it's Just Amazing. There're other places as good as this in Portland but all of them are twice the price (tercet, le pigeon, langbaan) -- One of the best restaurants we've ever been to (#2 specifically), & the best in the PNW so far. So many interesting unique flavors, everything so creative and delicious. The scallops specifically were one of the best things I've ever had, also loved the octopus, the crab beignets, the root vegetable trio, the chocolate mousse. $75/person with 4 courses each. Update: Been here two more times and every time we come we have at least a couple new "one of the best things I've ever had" dishes. The new gnocchi with the belper knolle is about the most comforting thing I've ever had, the freakin burger is unreal. For the price, under $100 per person, I can't recommend any restaurant more highly than this

Wow...I have no other words. From the amazing aperitif cocktail that was such a unique combo of multiple flavors to the phenomenal dishes we tasted...the service and tastes of NORMANDIE are like no other. I was partial to the amazing octopus, while my husband quickly convinced me that the mix of the flavors of the spare ribs were like nothing we’d ever tasted before but were 100% on point. Not to detract from the amazing galette and gnocchi... we were blown away and can’t wait for our travels to bring us back to try all of the other items on the menu. Thanks for the incredible tastes and experience! Can’t wait to come back!

My husband and I sat at the bar and absolutely loved the atmosphere! We ordered the miso deviled eggs, crab beignets, pickle plate, and the seared albacore. Every bite was better than the last! Highly recommend.

Great food. Beautiful decor. Loved squash/peach plate. We did a tapas style meal for friends bday. Oysters great. Gnocci yummy! Crab beignets TOP OF LINE! Great drinks. Pretty friendly server. Female head chef is awesome!

This small out of the way restaurant. Had a quiet atmosphere that was upscale but down-to-earth. I visited this restaurant with my daughter and husband. It had a wide selection of mocktails for my underage teen daughter so she could feel fancy and grown up. End an amazing signature drink collection for me in my husband. Dinner with served in corses. We had three starters and two entries, each more fantastic than the next. Perfectly plated. This restaurant will definitely be added to our date night rotation.

We had such a lovely meal here last weekend. The service was outstanding, and the food was delicious. It's a cute spot... we were so happy we finally tried it. The steak frites was melt in your mouth tender, and the blue cheese butter a perfect complement. Go to Normandie!!

Absolutely a must try. Atmosphere is amazing. Would be a great spot for business dinners, friends dinner, or date night. Also a large cute patio. Their cocktail menu was inventive and delightful. Their French fries were impecable with shoe string type fries that were the perfect crispy amount and a dill dipping sauce. Seared albacore was amazing, spicy sweet with a pineapple jalapeño topper. And the stone fruit tomato salad was a salad I wouldn’t have thought to put together but worked so good. We did finish dinner with the gnocchi and I would say that was the weakest dish out of the line up. Then did the dessert cheese which was yummy. Decadent but not sweet. Staff was helpful and nice. Overall great experience

Fantastic food, interesting and unexpected flavor combinations and one of the best burgers you will get in the city! Fresh oysters with different random toppings provided a great start to the meal. We also got the crab croquettes, crispy, tender and not greasy. I was tremendously surprised by the charred octopus. The flavor profile of all the ingredients together on the plate was the full deal - sweet, sour, spicy, meaty. An incredible dinner and great attentive service!

An impressive display of food merriment from a kitchen who puts out exceptional combinations. Main courses were outstanding and thoughtful. The halibut was shear perfection while the gnocchi held it's own with fluffy deliciousness enhanced with crab and mushroom. Go.

My wife came home from a business trip craving good veggies. This was top of our list and did not disappoint. The smoked beet dish tasted like brisket BBQ! What mad chef got wasted enough to have that idea? What chef has the chops to execute that idea?! The asparagus with egg and ham was also delicious and ballanced. Deboned fried quail? Yes please. Friendly helpful staff and fantastic drinks and desert round the night out well.

We celebrated our one year anniversary here and had the best time. The oysters were delicious and the horseradish granita it was served with was delicious! The Spanish octopus was perfect, and I highly recommend the miso ice cream with the seas of cheese cocktail. Thank you to the staff who were so kind and thoughtful who wished us a happy anniversary!

On the whole, one of the best dining experiences I've had in any city in the last 5 years. Get a reservation and come hungry! We came to Portland as part of celebrating our engagement. I forgot I'd noted it in the reservation, but they made just the right amount of congratulatory fuss... including checking out our rings and bringing us some extra goodies like a delightful sparkling wine for a toast. The staff were all so sweet and just the right amount of attentiveness... top notch in every respect. For starters, the Normandie Board was the unexpected star of the evening... which is saying a lot as everything was super delicious and creative. Such an array of flavors and textures, each thing superlative in its segment. The soft chorizo spread was amazing, as was the jam that paired with the soft cheese. But as great as it all was, the fresh-from-the-oven bread and the salted French butter made the whole thing transcendent. Charred octopus, perfectly grilled to be melt-in-your-mouth tender, with a gorgeous seaweed salad and deliciously tart vinaigrette. Parisienne Gnocchi was a standout; the fish sauce caramel was a flavor bomb that elevated the soft and pillowy gnocchi to something truly memorable. Alaskan Halibut was moist and flaky with an outstanding Dashi broth (which we sopped up with the last of the bread) and delicious Chanterelles. The reduced XO sauce and "ham powder" sprinkled atop was a mind-blowing touch. Flourless Chocolate Cake, thick and rich but somehow still not too dense; cherry compote was gorgeous and the coffee cardamom crunch was a perfect topping. The "Dessert Cheese" was a delight. A triple cream, very mild with subtle tang and a bit of sweetness, with a sweet and salty Miso caramel and a "fudge" of peanuts and tahini, with caramelized peanut crumble... If you've never had cheese for dessert, this is your gateway drug. A solid wine list, but a lot of great by-the-glass wine selections -- the wait staff is knowledgeable and helped me find some good pairings, including a fascinating 'orange' wine and some off-menu dessert wine options.

Amazingly unique dishes! Carpaccio is to die for, and coffee cardamom crème brûlée is beyond words. Have a bottle of wine and just leave your taste buds to enjoy!

This restaurant is the bomb! Phenomenal food in a beautiful setting. The staff is exceptional as well. Beautiful cocktails, smoked oysters, fried quail, and creamy, cheesy beignets...just a few of the delicious dishes you too could have if you go here 😍

Excellent meal and experience at Normandie! Super quick and attentive service during a busy Friday evening! We arrived absolutely starving after a long travel day to Portland, and quickly found ourselves lucky to secure probably the last reso of the night at 9pm. Our table of 4 ate pretty much the entire menu including but not limited to oysters, charred asparagus, octopus, gnocchi, 2 burgers, radicchio salad, 3 rounds of the octopus (loool it’s insane good!!!!) and the fish large plate. Don’t judge us - we were crazy hungry, and portions were still very reasonable. Everything was phenomenal. The only downside of our entire meal? The side of fries was just a bit (a lot) lack lustre compared to everything else. In total we were in and out in an hour and a half, which is nuts considering the quality of the food and how busy it was when we arrived. Huge kudos to the whole team and will absolute recommend return when visiting again down the line.

Delicious food in this popular French restaurant. The Duck Confit Toast (Fromage D'affinois, Huckleberry Jam, Arugula, Pickled Shallots, Pink Peppercorn, Nasturium) was deliciousness on a baguette. Highly recommended. And it goes very well with the Sunriver Rippin Pale Ale if you feel like having beer instead of wine. One more thing, the main entry door is truly heavy, so push hard. Bon appétit!

Very seafood loving vibe! Came for the dining month but got here early so we tried dishes off of their regular menu too. I especially loved their scallop dish for presentation and taste.

Excellent option for a nice night out for dinner. We tried quite a few dishes, and all were excellent. The raw oysters were fresh and had a nice firm and salty texture. The broiled oysters were salty and smoky. For main dishes, the Ribs were thick, fatty, and umami with a delicious sweet/salty/sesame taste. The burger is a meaty French onion soup on a roll; soft, tender, and juicy. And the Gnocchi with Crab and Mushrooms was creamy and full of flavor. Drinks were superb, and even their house red was top notch.

Quality place. I want to go back to try the rest of the menu. The food was fresh and everything tasted good and the cocktails were well crafted.

We went here for our wedding anniversary celebration. Their PNW oysters and seared albacore was amazing. Dungeonous crab beignets were good. It was fluffy soft and the jam was super tasty. Poached prawn were very tasty as well. Sheik. Cocktail was good the cocktail sauce was great. Loved their service. Everything came in very quickly and our server was very friendly.

S
Shalin Shah

We came for happy hour, which is a stellar deal. The reason for 4 stars is every dish we had - which included oysters, the crab beignets, the chicken liver mousse and fries - felt not strong enough. Hot sauce with the oysters - not actually spicy. Beignets - crab flavor was hard to find. The chicken liver mousse was tremendously airy and it did not taste like liver. Lastly, the dill fries - no discernible dill flavor could be found. However, the fries were stellar otherwise.

J
J S

The dishes were well plated and prepared, flavors were imaginative and we loved most everything we had. Main caution - portions are strangely constricted, even in the age of inflation and expecting to pay $100 for 2 persons. A $24 short rib dish was literally 2 ribs and some wonderful thick grilled onion. I cannot imagine that many diners who spend that and aren't already somewhat sated by other apps would not feel insulted that a main dish is literally about 6 bites of meat. I'd rather pay more knowing I won't leave hungry even after already sharing 3 small plates.

K
K Barker

The food was okay, I had the gnocchi my wife had the steelhead. I enjoyed the broccolini and the pate. Compared to other places of the same price the food was a let down.

J
Joseph Nontanovan

Wonderful ambience and a nice lil' happy hour menu, including oysters (limit one dozen per person) 5-6pm; when we arrived as a party of 6 at 5pm on a Wednesday, it was completely empty, but got busier by the time we left at 7.

Here’s what we ordered: Normandie board was so underwhelming but the chicken liver mousse was good. The bread that it was served with was good as well. They only gave one set of meat and then a spicy meat spread. I can’t remember the name but think of like a spicy chorizo spread. Not a fan as I’m not crazy about spice and neither were two of the other people I went with so that was a waste. I wouldn’t recommend the board since I didn’t find it worth the money or anything better that I could do I hope. I would order the mousse separately though. That I enjoyed. Poached prawns was really good. I would have ordered a second. Flavor and texture paired together wonderfully. Deviled eggs- wasn’t something that I would order again. There was something mixed in the egg that I wasn’t loving but it’s a good try once kinda thing. Broiled oysters tasted fine, nothing special that I would order it over regular oysters. Beef carpaccio was good and would order again. Octopus, ugh the smallest piece of octopus and overpriced. Of course in photos it looks bigger but it’s not worth it. Chicory salad basically tastes like a crunchy Caesar and I thought it was good. The crunch was great. The sauce was too thick and creamy for my liking, as if you’re eating mayo out the jar and I like mayo. Just not big chunks of it. Service also was super slow. We got the Normandie board at the end. We thought they forgot it but when it came out I almost wished they did cause it wasn’t worth it.

Normandie has a beautiful atmosphere, and the ambiance is definitely one of its strong points. However, the experience beyond that was underwhelming. Service was painfully slow, and the food didn’t live up to expectations. We ordered the seared albacore, burger, fries and candied curry peanuts—none of which stood out in terms of flavor or presentation, especially considering the price point. The quality didn’t quite match what you’d expect from a higher-end spot. Desserts were the biggest letdown. The descriptions on the menu didn’t align with what was actually served. The chocolate mousse lacked chocolate flavor, had an overly soft consistency, and was overwhelmed by marshmallow, making it far too sweet. As a big fan of carrot cake, I was disappointed to receive what was essentially a tiny muffin with a tangerine and a coconut sorbet that didn’t taste like coconut. If you're just going for drinks and a light snack, Normandie might be worth a visit. But for a full dining experience, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Left a bit disappointed with our dinner at NORMANDIE this week. Nothing was bad, but there was nothing outstanding either. We ordered the Normandie Board, which was lack luster. Only one cured meat on the board and the chicken liver mousse (which was what I wanted the most) wasn’t great. The Deviled Eggs were good (highlight). We also ordered the Parisienne Gnocchi and the Steak Frites. The gnocchi was okay but it was a mission to find the crab they mentioned it comes with (there was so little). And the Steak Frites wasn’t impressive. For the price, food and service we wouldn’t come back to try anything else.

This is for the Valentine’s Day event. It was all very underwhelming for how much we paid. We had never been here before and I always wanted to go, I thought going on Valentine’s Day would get us the best food choices. It was a 3 course meal and the savory dishes (beef carpaccio and duck confit) were pretty salty. The duck was cooked nicely though. The crepe dessert was nothing great, I didn’t want to finish it. Our cocktails were 5/10. My shaken not stirred just tasted like watered down gin. The service was okay. I can only imagine how stressful an event like this was, but when the server seems like she’s annoyed/upset, the energy kind of rubs off. I didn’t want to bring up any of our honest opinions because it felt like she was having a rough day. I didn’t want to make it worse or have an argument over it. We had asked for some butter with our baguette (one of us is dairy free so we got olive oil served as well). When it didn’t come out with the bread at first, we asked if we could also get butter, and it didn’t come until we asked again with the bread now cold and harder. Altogether, it didn’t feel worth it for a 110 per person meal not including drinks and tip. Wanted to like it.

This was our third time here over the years, I think the last time was 2023. Started off good, good drink, oysters and fries were good as usual. But then came the beef carpaccio. It's funny because I read a 2019 article about how they used to many ingredients per dish, from memory I did not agree. That was until tonight... The beef was sooo lost on the plate, tasted mostly like anchovies and salt, salty olives, salty anchovies and lots of cream sauce, didn't finish it. Then came the 2 entrees, I had the salmon and my wife had the gnocchi. Salmon was so salty I couldn't finish it, again with so much cream sauce or whatever, it just took away from the fish, not that it would have mattered because it was ruined by heavy handed seasoning. My wife's gnocchi was bizarre, no sauce and covered in breadcrumbs with shrimp, a dry and flavorless dish that could have borrowed sauce from some of the other dishes. I was once a chef and own a bakery in town, so I leave this review knowing its impact, but man, this literally left a bad taste in my mouth. Had to stop and get a bottle of water on the way home. We won't be back, sad because we once loved this place.

Prices are EXORBITANT for the absolutely tiny portions, even the main dishes but especially the small plates. Between 2 people, we ordered one main, 2 small plates, and 6 oysters, plus one drink each—the bill was upwards of $150 and we left still starving. The food was okay but not excellent, and certainly didn't warrant the incredibly high price point.

j
jeffery han

The service and atmosphere were good, but the food was a huge disappointment. We ordered three small dishes, and all of them were either too salty or too sweet. Flavor were all unbalanced(raw gochujang with yuzuish or whatever honey??). And the pork was particularly gamey, and my girlfriend spat it out the moment she took a bite.
