After reading the menu, I was so excited to visit this resturant during our vacation. And it absolutely didn't disappoint! Everything was so incredibly tasty 😋! We also had this awesome Captain Crunch dessert, which was so good. The salted egg yolk fries are the standout, as well as the Roti! I regret not getting two orders of the fries and sharing mine with people, lol. I would happily go back to this establishment to try more of their amazing food. The service was impeccable and the venue was awesome. We got to eat out in the hideaway, which was fun. I highly recommend this place. Unique and flavorful dishes that we'll talk about for years to come. Be different and try someplace new.
Perfection! Service was flawless- warm, attentive and friendly. Atmosphere was delightful! 90’s music, disco lights, eclectic decor and comfortable seating. The food is incredible. We ordered nearly everything on the menu and each dish was creative, exciting, balanced and beautiful. Also, we all agreed they have some of the best cocktails we’ve ever had. No Jazz Before the Rumble was the crowd fave.
Wow. This place is a delight. Small to medium plates, comfort food that is just different enough to be new and interesting, just spicy enough to leave you with a warm feeling inside a half hour after you leave, and served with skill and attention to detail. Before the pandemic hit, I was always curious how a city the size of Portland managed to find enough quality employees to run a restaurant. Now I'm even more curious - our server was excellent, able to give first time visitors a concise, useful overview of what is on the menu. Once pointed in the right direction, the food was wonderful. A small cocktail menu provided perfect accompaniment to the meal. One thing I have to point out - the night we were there, they had notifications on the tables indicating that a percentage of the profits that night would be going to the local elementary school. It's one of the more encouraging things I've seen in the last few years, that a restaurant is able to be fully open for business, turning out fantastic food, and still able to be good neighbors as well. I'm really looking forward to my next visit.
Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff members. Food vibes out as it is ready, so it's nice to eat family-style and share the dishes. Curry Fries were surprisingly packed with flavor. Corn Fritters were delicious and had a great texture. Wonton noodles was a fun mix of chewy noodles, meaty wontons, tender slices of pork, vegetables, and preserved bits of peppers. Great combined flavors. The three dishes were great for two people and we left satiated, but not bogged down by eating two much. The service was amazing and the food was somehow even better than its reputation. We'll definitely be back!
Very hip spot, young crowd and lots of glass windows. The food is amazing and we did the tasting menu at $65 each. This is one of my favorites
The other week we had tried Gado Gado, Oma's sister restaurant and were absolutely amazed.... so we had to keep it in the family and experience all that Oma's Hideaway had to offer. Because of how popular and delicious these places are, they tend to fill up, so I do recommend a reservation. The menu is a beautiful fusion of Indonesian and Pacific Northwest cuisine, and everything we tried was outstanding. The cocktails were expertly crafted and perfectly balanced, and the plates we ordered were bursting with flavor. Our waitress expertly coached us on the star dishes and we ended up trying the Egg Yolk Curry Fries, Sticky Ribs, Wedge Salad, and the Sambal Terasi Udang. Each dish was unique and so full of flavor. Our favorite was the Sambal!! The atmosphere at Oma's Hideaway is vibrant and lively. The service was great, with our server offering helpful recommendations and making sure our glasses were never empty. Especially their Zero Proof "Golden Hour" drink... amazing. For anyone looking for a unique and flavorful dining experience in Portland... this is the spot!! It is definitely on the pricier side, but well worth it. I can't wait to go back!
This place is a gem!! 11/10 recommend. I had some of the most tasty food & cocktails I’ve had in a long time. Everything had unique & intentional flavors. You owe it to yourself to go here. We ordered half the menu, & I cannot wait to go back & order the other half.
Great small to medium plates place! The fries and Roti Canai and Chilled noodles were amazing! The shrimp curry was good too.
Three of us had dinner. We needed a reservation as they were busy. They called our cell phone when our table was ready. The menu has a lot of options and the flavors and combinations are unique and creative. I am told the menu changes frequently. Our food arrived fairly quickly. The server was helpful with menu options. Our three dishes were all outstanding.
Really good food!!! We ordered the salted egg yolk curry fries, the char siu platter, one of their specials made of wontons in curry sauce, and the laksa. Everything tasted really good, we especially loved the laksa and thought it was the best example of one we have had in the states. My only critique is that I wish there was more slated egg yolk on our fries.
Everything gets a 5 star. Well the parking is a bit of a struggle. But that's all of the east end of PDX. The food was amazing. Corn fritters. Fries. Roti Canai. Cold Noodles. Raita Salad. Amazing beyond our imagination. The service was great too... We ended up tipping our server 25% and she totally deserved it. Oh and use the washroom for sure... It's got a disco feels.
I got a gift card for this place and I’m so glad I did. I wouldn’t normally pick this type of cuisine because my partner can be picky and doesn’t care for pork. We called and got a same day reservation at the bar. Ordered the everyone needs a hero and it was a delicious mango margarita. Ordered the curry fries. Bomb. Roti. Phenomenal. Rice as a side and split the burger. It was sooooo delicious. Even my picky partner agreed the food was flavored well and high quality. Definitely will come back again if we have plans in this part of town. Want to try more on the menu. They gave us a free rice Krispy which was really kind and a tasty treat for later that night at home.
Incredibly flavorful and delicious food, excellent service, great atmosphere! Pricey for the portion sizes, but there were 4 of us and ordered several different things so we could try more of the menu which worked well. The curry fries with burnt ends are not to be missed!
Oma’s was such an amazing experience. From the beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food. We loved every item we ordered and the (non-alcoholic) slushies were so great! The food came out fast and our waiter was the best. We can’t wait to come back.
Delicious! We loved the Roti and fried chicken. Fun dining room, attentive service, and tasty drinks.
The food here is unbelievable. One of my favorite spots in Portland. The roti was inexplicably both croissant-esque in flakiness while being simultaneously doughy and with a good chew. Awesome curry, innovative and delicious raita salad, and the meat plate is a delight.
Killer all around! First off the vibes. Spectacular atmosphere with groovy wallpaper, iridescent table scapes, and a disco ball! Now the food. You literally can’t order wrong. We had a mix and match of dishes and although each stood out on its own they all still somehow complemented each other, and brought major flavor. This is a party for your taste buds. The fried chicken and broccoli were my best bites. Service was excellent and they were very knowledgeable about each dish. 10/10 recommend.
had an outstanding time dining solo here! the lamb satay was totally amazing alongside the coconut rice and roti canai. bartender not only made me a great bev but also went out of their way to recommend me some great nearby spots. thanks to oma’s for helping me feel at home ❤️
Such a special spot for dinner. We loved every dish - the roti canai, caramelized Brussel sprouts, grilled Chinese broccoli, raita salad, and salted egg yolk curry fries. The drinks we ordered were also delicious - the “that’s Mai Thai” and the zero proof “I am Serious.” The people who work there are all wonderful and provide a lovely environment. Highly recommend!!
I used to love the bar that was here before. Happy to see they kept the mural over the bar. We did the set menu and it was so nice to get a little bit of everything! Probably the best eggplant dish ive had! The decor and aesthetic is great and the team running Oma's are so friendly and helpful with recs.
Really delicious food and fun restaurant. We had the a la carte menu (the chicken, the curry fries and the heirloom tomato salad) and everything was great. We didn't eat red meat otherwise we would have done the tasting menu. We also had the rice crispy dessert, which was delicious although definitely something you want to share! Service was also terrific
Oma’s offers a cozy space boasting vibrant and exotic flavors. I haven’t explored Malaysian street food much, and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of flavors and textures — lemongrass, crisped basil, shrimp chili glaze, and roasted chickpeas to name some of the highlights. My tastebuds were so delighted! Dish sizes are perfect for sharing; in fact, I’d recommend doing family style with others to try out all the variety on this spectacular menu. If you’re sensitive to spice, make sure to ask which areas of the menu are spiced up (they aren’t shy with it!). We didn’t try any cocktails, but heard that they offer some beautifully crafted bevvies. I would definitely recommend this quaint little hideaway for a cute little date or friend night 😊
The yummiest roti!!! The special of the day was pork ribs that were unlike any I’ve had, and both our cocktails were great. Lovely service and lively atmosphere inside.
We had an amazing dinner last night at Oma's Hideaway. We got the dumpling of the night, which was out of this world, the corn fritters, wonton mee, the Chinese BBQ pork and the French toast dessert. It was all delicious. The atmosphere was amazing and we loved the 90's music playing, made me feel like a teenager again! The service was perfect. I looked at the previous reviews and was amazed at people that gave it 1 star. Don't listen to them! This place is a gem with a fantastic vibe!
By far the best food we had on a visit to Portland. Awesome vibe and even better service. We sat at the bar and everything was perfect, food was amazing, drinks were fun and good, and our bartender/server was so nice and informative.
This place is exceptional. I recently moved here and this place was recommended. I popped in tonight and it was really a great experience all-around. Sat at the bar and Jade went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The food was delicious, everyone was friendly, and the music was a huge stand out. I hope to come back within a week….it was that good!
Love Oma's! I miss their happy hour (I feel like it has come and go, so hopefully it will be back!) but their menu cannot be beat. Always changing and they are really great at accommodating for dietary preferences and restrictions. The staff are always phenomenal and fun.
Great service, great drinks, and incredible food. We went all out and tried half the menu, and everything we ate was delicious. Will definitely be back!
Absolutely spectacular experience. We walked in with no reservation on what was clearly a busy night and the woman hosting was warm, accommodating, and found us a place to sit almost immediately. Back patio was warm, and we could hear the rain on the rooftop, so it was very cozy. Service was incredible - Jerrika helped us navigate the allergy menu, took the time to chat with us about music, and took incredible care of us. Drinks and food were spot on, specifically the Ube Jello Shots, BBQ Pork, and Salted Egg Yolk Curry Fries. Not cheap, but good things never are, and I’m always happy to support a small business and a stellar staff. Can’t wait to come back!
This was some of the best food our group has had, ever. The hostess gave us a great bar rec nearby while we waited for our table to be ready and gave us ample time to come back. Our waiter Stewart helped us SO much in terms of what food and drinks to get and how much (so we didn’t over order). We each got different drinks and they all slapped. I personally got the Cottage Core and it was so light and tasty. As for the food, everything we ordered was amazing. You literally can’t go wrong. My favorite personally was the pork bbq and the roti. I cannot recommend this place enough and honestly want to gatekeep it BUT the dining staff and chefs deserve the fame!! Literally one of us teared up because the food was so good. It will always be a Must Visit when we’re in Portland. Edit: also wanted to mention our food runner! He would bring dishes out with a flourish which also helped the amazing atmosphere!!
So glad we tried this place out - the food is delicious and the service was fantastic! The decor is definitely on the eclectic and fun side. We tried the following: 1) Roti canai - it's like an indian paratha with some dips on the side. Flaky and crispy. 2) Crispy eggplant chaat - highly recommend. 5/5. I couldn't believe it was tofu yoghurt. 3) Tamarind mala fried chicken - another dish that hit the spot. Would definitely go back the next time we are visiting Portland.
As a certified fattie, I am always on the lookout for new restaurants. So trust me when I say, this is a top tier experience without a top tier bill. We did the tasting menu and it was incredible. You could taste the love in each dish. Packed with care and amazing flavors, we left feeling perfectly satisfied, not too full but far from hungry. Great vibes, great staff, great food. Can’t wait to go again.
A must dine when in the area. Unbelievably flavorful and unique food that will delight the most discerning palats. Make reservations, take uber (parking in the neighborhood is tight) and enjoy their great wines and cocktails. Can't wait to dine there again! Yum Yum! 5☆☆☆☆
Despite (or maybe because of?) the "overdid the microdose" decor, this place is spectacular. Beautifully conceived shareable plates, palate stimulating and not dumbed down. Complex innovative cocktails and mocktails. The charcoal grilled broccoli and the tamarind mala fried chicken were particular standouts. Make reservations, share everything, and if you're celebrating, let them know - there's a griddled fruity pebble rice crispy treat waiting for you!
Oma’s Hideaway offers tasty tapas style Malaysian and Singaporean street food (1 plate can comfortably serve 2 people). Possibly the best Roti in the city! Maybe the highlight of the night. Great for date night or a group experience. Knowledgeable staff, outdoor seating, and street parking. Be prepared to $$. Enjoy!
Been here a couple of times and can never decide what to order because everything on the menu sounds good. Lots of dishes mainly inspired by Southeast Asia cuisine. I had the Golden Hour N/A cocktail, the Roti Canai, and Baby Back Ribs. The Roti was flaky and moist and was great dipped in the curry. The ribs had a lot of different flavors going on and paired great with the sambal they brought out, but wish they were a little meatier.
My wife and I decided to stop here for dinner after work. The atmosphere felt really nice when we walked in. They were able to seat us really fast and take our order in timely matter. We started off with their cocktails which I thought were really good. For dinner we got the wonton mee, char siu glazed wings, and char siu pork platter with a side of coconut rice. I would definitely recommend the cocktails and wings! Both were really good. The other items were okay but I felt like it needed a little more spice for me to really enjoy it. Overall we had a great experience here. Would recommend stopping here if you’re in the area. It is a little bit on the pricey side and the portions are on the smaller side.
I was always curious about Oma’s Hideaway and it was pretty good. Every dish was flavorful and interesting. The salted egg yolk fries with the burnt pork ends were the star. The fries were cooked perfectly, the sauce was salty and rich, the pork added another spice element beyond the chilis. The pork & shrimp dumplings were good but probably my least favorite, the filling wasn’t as flavorful as I expected but the sauce they came with made up for it and was packed with a spicy kick. The surf & turf special was good, the lobster sauce was so decadent and delicious. The prawns also lacked a bit of flavor, so the sauce and fried garlic helped. The steak was flavorful but it was a bit too rare for me. All in all, great flavors, and I would be interested to try some other dishes. The portions are small which make it easy to try more items and share them. Plus it is super cute on the back patio, good music, and friendly staff.
Really cute spot on the patio (the hideaway). Must get: roti. Super flaky Indian bread with a bit of salt on top. Excellent. Good sauce Solid: beef satay. A bit spicy. So my little one only had one piece. Skip: cucumber salad. Didn't like the fermentation of the cucumber combined with the yogurt. Skip. Sparkling rose by the glass was good. Mocktail " I am serious" was excellent with coconut and pineapple.
Wow what an experience! Tried Oma’s table for $65/person which was fun to try to many foods. I was honestly very impressed by the selection and how flavorful everything was! Not really enough food to get full on tbh and requires full table participation. I think it’s a try once and done type of thing. Skip on the drinks.. not worth!!! They are good but not $12 a drink good.. I’m a bit peeved since we were given “complementary” shots for waiting for our table reservation but they didn’t take it off our bills. Tough lol I am a big fan of the lamb martabak and roti canai! If, and I mean if, I ever come back, I would love to order those again. However, I will be financially recovering from eating out here. Almost dropping a benji for dinner was not on my 2025 bingo card but here we are. 8/10, but being charged for complementary drinks that we didn’t order or ask for leaves a sour taste in my mouth. 7/10. Would I come back? Maybe if I’m rich. If I’m dropping $65 baseline for a meal, I’d rather go to Fogo de Chão.
Wonderfully prepared food from the options to the presentation to the taste. Just a wonderful eating experience. The staff made it better by providing recommendations and tips as to how to fully appreciate the food. The roti (fried bread with squash curry dipping) is to die for. Absolutely delicious. Get it. Get two, both for you.
Really enjoyed this spot! Cute outdoor patio that was nice and quiet for a date night. The roti was a standout (I could drink the curry it came with straight from the bowl) and we loved the pork ribs as well. The chicken was a bit of a miss for us — felt like mostly bones and we didn’t get much meat. Drinks were decent but nothing that wowed us. Would definitely return to try more dishes (and get the roti again).
We enjoyed most of the dishes part of the Oma’s table set menu other than the laksa dish. The lamb and roti w/curry were our favorites. The portion sizes were small for the price, especially the main entree was meant for one person but split by two. Also I think there’s no reason that for two people they only gave one roti.
The food was fantastic. The staff didn’t do a great job explaining how the menu worked and we didn’t know what we were going to owe until the end due to one person being veg but the menu saying they have to participate. The staff was friendly but could have been more clear. The back enclosed patio is a good idea but it was pretty cold even wit heaters running. The furthest tables sit behind them and are uncomfortably cold. They do have blankets though which is a nice touch. The rice crispiest treat dessert was delicious as was many of the street food treats. Would return but only inside unless it’s summer.
The food at Oma’s is undeniably delicious. Quality ingredients, complex flavors, and beautiful presentation. However, it is hard to leave this place without feeling robbed. $16 for a TABLESPOON of curry. The chicken wings had a total of 2 actual bites of food as it was all bone. Plus tips and Covid fee on top of all of that. This would all be fine if this was communicated at any point by the waiter or written on the menu. Oma’s needs to add a disclaimer for the portion size. Overall, food is great but not worth the steep price tag. You will be spending $100 to fill your stomach here.
The atmosphere was ok, but the waiter forgot to put in our drink order, the chicken was mostly bones, and the dessert took more than 20 minutes to come out to the table. Could’ve been great but it ended up being mediocre and disappointing.
OMA’S ALMOST AWESOME I immediately loved the atmosphere in Oma’s the moment I walked in. The decor is fun and the staff initially seemed very pleasant. Our server did not seem to be living their best life and was curt with us once they eventually got around to taking our order. Drinks are pricey and came out slow, but we’re very tasty and well put together. I had my first Jell-O shot in at least a decade and marveled at the branding on the cup. The purse drink we had was cute and OG awesome. Get the curry fries. They are freaking phenomenal. Kinda like a tasty curry hollandaise situation on freshly fried freezer fries. Don’t bother adding the burnt ends, as they take away from you being able to enjoy the amazing flavor of the curry situation. We did not care for the charred pineapple salad and didn’t bother finishing the dish. The Wonton Mee was also only ok. The wontons were delicious, but the portion size is meager (3) and the rest of the dish only ok. Lacking flavor and the little noodles all stuck together. We were really looking forward to the ribs, but they were only lukewarm when served to us. Had decent flavor, but I would’ve enjoyed some more crispy texture to them and definitely wanted them hot. We were just a party of two and were appalled when our server said we didn’t have time to order dessert because we had to vacate our table in 29 minutes. So ridiculous they put a time limit on us to eat while giving us sourpuss service that is anything except efficient. Chill the eff out Oma’s!
We heard very good things about this restaurant. And I want to point out this is personal preference and from my viewpoint. The roti was delicious! You def have to order it! It was a very good start, thank you to our waiter for suggesting it. Then we got the salted egg shrimp. The flavor was just okay. It tasted like a normal curry. Then we got the tamarind fried chicken. To us this was not good at all. The way the chicken was fried was not executed well at all. The batter was weird. The sauce itself was off and didn’t work well at all. What made the dinner was our waiter, huge thanks to him
Extremely noisy. Very rude and inattentive service (wait staff grabbed menu from the hand of my guest, didn’t provide me with water, provided inaccurate description of the food items) It was very cold and draughty; refused to reseat when asked. The food was good but the staff need retraining. I’ve been to Gado Gado and it was excellent in all regards. Oma doesn’t deserve to be mentioned in the same breath
The food here is always fantastic, however there are some steps of service missing from my past experiences that don't help further justify coming back. The "slushie" comes in a 6 oz. coupe for $16. Our server was nice but didn't tell us what they were out of prior to us looking at the menu, so when we tried ordering we were met with a bunch of No's. Our courses came out staggered, which would have been okay if the entrees, which came out staggered as well, didn't take as much time as it did. Service here overall has been cold, uninformative, and inattentive. I'm a restaurant owner with 15 years experience managing and serving. I wouldn't suggest a large family function or date night here, as alluring as the atmosphere may seem. There are much better dining experiences here in Portland at this price point.
