Having been here a few times thru the years, I can honestly say it's never disappointed! The specials have always offered interesting choices, the rack of lamb one time has set the bar quite high for that dish anywhere else it truly feels like your stepping back in time and I mean that in a fantastic way! Our party of 4 was seated near the fireplace which added a nice touch to the atmosphere! Save some room for desert!👍
Food was amazing. Filet mignon melts in your mouth . Lobster risotto my wife loved it. Creamy and Lobster so tender. Had the bananas foster and they made it right next to your table it was amazing. Great night. Parking is great and so was staff. Only thing I will say is main waiter took order and never came back to check in. The other staff did check in on us but would have been nice to see main waiter.
Best server staff ever. I must have had 6 servers at my table. Great service and friendly too. Payment was done quick too. From the time I received my check, paid, and got my receipt back less than 5 minutes. Some restaurants take over 30 min to take my payment. Food was amazing too. My wife had medallions of beef ,the most tender meat I ever ate. I had : Appetizer- Oyster medley, topped with Creme and shrimp, 6 oysters that looked great. Entree- Halibut w spinach and a creamy risotto ,live I have never had before.
The ship is our favorite restaurant to go to! Food is consistently delicious and the ambiance is romantic. Service is impeccable. No other restaurant compares! Top notch and 5 stars across the board! Whether you are looking for steak, seafood, etc the menu is sure to please any palate! Highly recommend and is a must for locals and anyone visiting the beautiful Hudson Valley!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Went here for a Christmas party 30 year's ago. My first experience in fine dining. Went back recently and it's still got great food and service. Filet Mignon and Jumbo Shrimp was the same thing I had back then. It did not disappoint
I had my daughter’s wedding here last week. Sal did an amazing job. Always made us feel welcome (like family) last minute changes were never a problem and when problems arose, Sal handled it without us even knowing. Staff always had a smile and were extremely caring. This is a top rated restaurant, not a wedding catering hall. The food was top quality and the service impeccable. There is no comparison to the professionalism and personal touches. Treated like royalty as opposed to catering hall cattle. I am still in awe and our guests just cannot stop talking about the outstanding quality of this establishment. Thank you Ship Lantern Inn for making my first born child’s dream wedding a reality. Every mother’s wish. 5 stars hands down!
Stopped in at the ship lantern Inn and had a amazing dinner with friends on Saturday night. Understand that the ship is as good or even better than as it has ever been. For instance they totally upgraded all of the chairs in the restaurant and I will tell you they are the most comfortable chairs I have ever sat in including the CIA. The entrées were beyond amazing. I had the sautéed shrimp. Extremely reasonable for the size and portion of the hearty meals. The service was impeccable as the ship has always had the reputation for this. I had a chance to meet Matthew the general manager and he is top shelf class and genuine friendliness. Wendy at the bar is beyond amazing with her personality and kindness. I would highly recommend the ship to my friends and family. Please keep up the fantastic work in this iconic restaurant!
My favorite restaurant. Delicious items on the regular menu as well as on their economical fixed-price menu. The quality of the food is consistent, no matter the time nor day of the week I eat there. The chefs always cook meat, fish, and vegetables correctly and to the requested doneness. The bartender and servers are skilled professionals who remember their customers' tastes.
We celebrated my husband’s 75th birthday party yesterday and a great time was had by all. The food and service were exceptional, and many of our friends can’t wait to return to this wonderful establishment. A special thank you to Matt for all his help yesterday and prior to the party. We look forward to returning for dinner soon.
Hadn’t been there for years because of COVID & health issues. It was wonderful. The food was as good as always and the choices on the Twilight set menu were ample. We found out that they had built a patio so we were able to bring our puppy. It’s over an hour drive for us but we can’t wait to go back.
On behalf of our family, I would like to thank you for a most wonderful wedding celebration this past weekend. Tito, Dana and their staff were amazing. From start to finish they handled the event with expertise and grace. As always the food and presentation were spot on. They accommodated all of our requests and were beyond helpful in the planning process. Thank you so much for everything you did to make our Daughters wedding day a smooth memorable event. We are thrilled with how everything turned out! We continue to receive compliments from guests about how superb everything was. See you soon, Maria
So happy I chose Ship Lantern Inn for my event! Their professionalism, knowledge, patience, flexibility, quality of service, setting, atmosphere were above any of our other options. They accommodated all of my requests with ease and answered all of my questions. Guests all said how delicious everything was, how full they were, even the bread and butter was superior. We just relaxed and enjoyed ourselves while they took care of every detail. Pretty room with a wood burning fireplace; impeccable!
My favorite restaurant in the area. Their early dining menu is an amazing value for such fine dining. Great food on a regular weekend and even on their busiest holiday hours! Professional, great etiquette, delicious food in a beautiful old American style setting.
Love this place! Food and service were great. We had a large group, and ended up with a beautifully decorated room to ourselves. Wait staff was friendly and accommodating. Can’t wait to go back!
My wife & I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary & had our wedding anniversary dinner @ this facility. The staff & service were stellar as was the food itself. The host & greeting into the premises were very professional. I especially like the fact that it’s fine dining close to home. I’d strongly recommend this facility for its prestige dining experience.
World class service and food right near my home! This is a true high class service place. The wait staff are in full suits and their attention to detail is second to none. The food is amazing! The prices are not bad either. Try their special as its every bit delicious as the individual items. It’s such a treat and you will feel like royalty here. It’s a great place to dress up but you don’t have to. I do suggest not going super casual but you can. I like to go to a special place and get dressed up. You won’t be disappointed!
Impressive! They are the difference between eating out and dining out. Quietly elegant and understated. Nice menu with additional daily specials. Patient staff who work well as a team to seat guests, take orders, efficient serving meals and cleanup duties. To my observation, a seamless service functionality that keeps a dining room in continuous motion. We have dined with them several times and have never been disappointed.
This place was wonderful. The service was spot on. Everybody was so attentive to us from the minutewe walked inside untill we left. The food was amazing from the soup and bread all the way to dessert. We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. It is a little on the pricy side but we knew that prior to going in by looking at the menu online highly recommend.
It was a group event of the Ulster County Italian American Foundation. Price $55 for the members. Food served family style. The pork chops were exceptional!
Ship Lantern Inn is an incredibly lovely dining experience! My wife and I went here for our birthdays and had a wonderful time. The staff are all kind and personable. I was so happy it was not a stuffy atmosphere, nor were there any uptight people at all! A great inviting and relaxing atmosphere awaits anyone who enters. I must also mention how delicious and well prepared the food is!!
I have gone here so many times since I was little. They have never disappointed me. They cater to my Gluten/soy free diet, that's always a plus for me! They also have an awesome Happy hour with appetizers $2 per whatever you order. 🤩 And it you drink $5/beers & wine I believe. Check out their website... Unheard of these days. They are still classy with a relaxed atmosphere.
So I went to the Ship Lantern Inn that spot you always see on 9w…..WOOOOOWWW I am so happy I finally stopped in there, first the staff were fantastic they were very nice an on time with everything they couldn’t have done a better job, that steak the filet mignon was easily a top 3 steak I ever had it just melted in your mouth, the taste was so good it was almost a crime to finish it, the Swiss molten lava cake was delicious very light but filling perfect way to end the night
One of those places that's been around forever, so you worry that they are just coasting along on their past glory...not so. Classic old school fine dining experience, everything was perfect, service was impeccable. No servers asking if you'd been here before and explaining the "concept", just good food, good drinks and excellent service.
Lump crab meat cocktail was fresh, sweet and market price was very reasonable. Short ribs and parmesan crusted swordfish were outstanding. Service was excellent. If we come back to the area we will definitely come again. Thank you!
Lovely American style restaurant specializing in fish and steak. Started with escargot followed by caesar salad and filet mignon with bearnaise sauce as my entree. Finished up with cappuccino and molten lava cake. My husband enjoyed his sirloin steak and dessert as well. I would highly recommend The Ship Lantern for a classic dining experience.
Old school restaurant with small bar and cozy dining room with fire place. Nice and quiet.
We chose to try Ship Lantern Inn after receiving a recommendation from a friend, and I was pleasantly surprised! The food was absolutely delicious. My friend ordered the filet mignon, while I had the braised short rib—both dishes were fantastic. The wait staff was attentive but not intrusive, and they were eager to answer our questions and offer suggestions. I can't wait to return!
Attended a small company Christmas Party and was happily surprised by the restaurant’s food and the service staff. We were a small party of ten and had a side room off the main dining room and the staff was attentive to all of guest needs. The wine selection was diverse and the wine that was chosen was spectacular! Everyone agreed every dish was delicious and cooked as ordered. I had a rare steak and it was rare - as ordered. I will go back on my own now. I expected an old stuffy restaurant with poor service and was incredibly surprised!!!
Absolutely amazing!! I went here for a birthday dinner with my husband (he is October 15th and I am the 17th, we had an absolutely amazing time! The food was prepared so fresh and delicious and the waiters and waitresses were truly attentive to our needs from start to finish!! Thank you for making our birthday so memorable!
My favorite restaurant in the Hudson Valley. Food is amazing, service amazing. Nice that most of the waiters have worked there for years! Oh and the atmosphere is so warm and cozy, everything a restaurant should be!
Classic upscale restaurant with classic dishes prepared well. The veal osobucco and the pork chops were both great. Twilight menu was a good value. Would return.
This gem will bring you back to fancy restaurants of a bygone era. There’s a working fireplace in the center of the dining room. Very romantic! The staff were on it. Very professional and kind. Hubby had the Parmesan crusted swordfish and said it was deliciously moist. I went with the bone in filet. What generous portions! At a steak house this would have been marked up and not come with all the delicious fresh vegetables. Come hungry and leave happy.
This restaurant has stood the test of time for a reason. We travel 2 hours to enjoy the food, atmosphere and terrific staff. Thank you for a wonderful evening as always.
My girlfriend had passed by the Ship Lantern Inn a few months ago and asked me to look it up. It looked very promising and the ambiance looked great, so we decided to save it for a special occasion. Fast forward a few months and we decide my 29th birthday is just the right kind of special occasion. As soon as you walk in, you can tell the service here is going to be fantastic. We didn't spend more than 5 seconds inside before we had someone approach us and direct us to our table. We wanted to check the place out so we took turns on between meals to scope it out. Awesome fireplace, a big old ship steering wheel, and a fancy model ship; neat! We were overwhelmed with great-sounding options. My girlfriend got the meat option cooked medium and a beet salad from the daily special menu, and I went with the packed calabria seafood stew of Maine lobster, Panama shrimp, littleneck clams, and mussels with Capelli d'Angelo, which came with their house salad and special dressing. The salads were great, particularly the house dressing on the house salad. The beet salad was very sweet. The meat (I believe it was brisket) was cooked perfectly, closer to medium rare than medium which is not a problem for me, and came with a side of mashed potatoes and vegetables. The pasta was just overwhelmingly covered in seafood, which is exactly what I wanted. I thought we would have leftovers but somehow, we took it all down and had the apple crisp for dessert, with a nice candle for my birthday. We didn't tell them it was my birthday, so I'm still scratching my head as to how they knew. This was a great experience, the waiters were extremely pleasant, and we'll definitely return for the next special occasion.
We had my mother's 90th birthday luncheon at The Ship Lantern Inn this afternoon. Setting everything up with Matt- the room, the menu, the cake for our party of 14, was so easy, he was professional and detail oriented, which put my mind at ease having never been there before. The room was beautifully set up from the linens, candles and fresh flowers. The service was efficient and well timed, staff very friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic, with several picky eaters who really raved, especially about the baked clams, salmon and steak. The cake was lovely, perfect. Having had people in from California and the Carolinas, who haven't seen eachother in a while, we did linger a bit (it was hard to herd everyone out) but we didn't feel rushed. I appreciate that so much. It was a perfect afternoon. Looking forward to dining there again in the future.
The food was good. The service was great and the atmosphere is always nice. You haven't given them a try. You'll enjoy it.
My family has been coming here since we moved to the Hudson Valley 13 years ago. They do an excellent job at making your visit memorable - high quality food, ambience, and service....they have it all.
I wanted to surprise my wife by having her sister drive up from New Jersey and us drive down from Vermont so they could have a nice lunch together. So I looked for restaurants around have way. Found The Ship Lantern, checked it out, and I decided to try it. What a great choice service was great, food was better. I had the veal chop parmesean, which was perfectly cook and the portion was huge. I couldn't finish it all. That never happens me. It is a bit of a drive for us but we will be back. The Ship Lantern made a special day for my wife superb. Thanks to the staff!!
Got off to a slow start, service continued to be a little slow, that said, the ambiance with a fire place, live dining music and food being "worth the wait", made it a wonderful "date night"!
I haven't been to Ship Lantern Inn in about 25 years! But lately, I've been hearing about some really good experiences from others, and also reading about recent accolades on-line, so I've been wanting to dine here again. And so did "hubby". So we decided to finally go on a work night and the weather was stellar for a summer day last Tuesday. We will definitely become more regular patrons, following our recent experience! Emily, our server, and the maitre 'd were CLASS ACTS! We sat outside in the beautiful patio area, right next to the bubbling little waterfall amid the beautiful, well-maintained landscaping. Foods ordered: stuffed & baked clams, spinach and beet salad, vegetarian strudel, steamed edamame dumplings with grilled tofu, and the black angus sirloin. The service was 5-Star all around and we look forward to returning soon !
Very nice experience. Luckily I'm not a hugely picky person because while dinner and appetizers were delicious my bananas foster wasn't very good. The bananas were raw with no caramelization, the booze was barely cooked off, and it sat in a melted ice cream mess that ended up mostly on the table cloth. Everything else was so good I'll give it a 4.5/5, but don't order the bananas foster
6 out of 5 stars! This restaurant is insanely great. Professional wait staff and above expectation food and overall dining experience. Can’t recommend highly enough! Will travel from out of state hours just to come here again. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
The Ship Lantern Inn has always been one of my favorite restaurants for a nice dinner out when I'm visiting the area. It's always busy, so make reservations well in advance. The steamed edamae dumplings, bacon wrapped shrimp, filet mignon and the linguine with clams received a thumbs up.
I love this restaurant. My meal was perfect. We went there for a twilight dinner and I ordered a petite filet mignon black and blue. It was perfect, but much larger than I thought it would be. My husband ordered a pork chop which he thought was fine, but nothing special. The onion soup was classically made, so I was very pleased, and there wasn’t a crumb left on my husband’s baked clams. The bread came with butter and a delicious companata. I mistakenly forgot to ask for salad dressing on the side, so I gave most of it to my husband. The almond torte was rich and scrumptious. The raspberry sorbet was a great way to end a meal. The service was excellent and the ambience delightful. I only wish my husband ordered something else.
Exceptional food. Everything was amazing. The staff was professional, courteous, and friendly. It was a really cozy and warm experience. We made reservations.
You might not expect a fine dining restaurant on route 9W in Milton, NY... But there is one, and you should stop by. Ship Lantern still has all the charm of its 100 year old history (and of the building's multi-century old heritage) but knows not to be too fussy. Great food, a cozy dining room, and nearby to some amazing vineyards and orchards. (Check out Fjord and Nostrano!)
We enjoyed our dinner so much that I felt compelled to review this experience as soon as we got home. Service was attentive, warm and professional. The two servers and maitre d worked in tandem and always were available without being intrusive. The menu had so many options and all the choices seemed special. From the bread, creamy butter and tomato tapenade to the lobster, shrimp, crab, mussel, and risotto, we left fully satisfied. The dessert menu tempted us but we were so full that we promise to come back again to try them. The atmosphere, with the fireplace and cloth tablecloths and flowers all added to making our 50th wedding anniversary dinner so special!
Went for a birthday celebration, and everything was so good, from drinks to deserts - the steak special and French Onion Soup were particular crowd pleasers. Charming old place, with a roaring fireplace in the dining room. A Hudson Valley classic for special occasions, especially in the colder months.
First time there with the wife for our anniversary.. I’m speechless.!! The wait staff were friendly and amazing. The GM was beyond friendly and professional and the food left us speechless!! The filet melted in my mouth and the wife’s salmon was the same. And might I say this, the Chef should teach a class for NY state on the proper way to make an onion soup… One of the simplest yet delicious soups and it’s never hearty.. The Ships Lantern onion soup is the best I’ve ever had!!!
I drove past the restaurant many times over the years and skipped it because the sign turned me off. I always thought it was a diner or a restaurant of that sort. About a month ago I went in and it has become one of my favorites. The service is impeccable and the food is very very good. I’ve had the prime rib twice and we have tried other dishes. They have live entertainment with light music. I highly recommend it.
A great find, this unique restaurant has been in existence for 100 years. We were welcomed and seated immediately, this was fine dining without the pretense. Staff very friendly, knowledgeable, we weren't rushed. The Prix fixe menu is amazing, we had braised beef rib that came with seasonal vegetables, a wonderful cream soup, a small salad and lovely Berry mascarpone mouse. Worth the trip
First time visitors, won't be the last... incredible food, professional and friendly service, historic type atmosphere. We enjoyed a surf and turf dinner special for two, delicious... the dessert, Swiss chocolate toasted almond torte was rich and smooth, incredible. Great meal.
I just hosted my dad’s 75th bday celebration dinner here and it was great! The manager Matt was very easy and pleasant to talk to and helped me come up with ideas for the party. The staff was very friendly and helpful while setting up and the service was prompt during the dinner! The food was great and everything went smooth. My family was very happy!
Excellent everything. Service was attentive and friendly. We sat outside and were well served. I had a signature Old Fashioned and a Black Manhattan. Both were very good although I do prefer the OF without club soda. Anniversary dinner with three courses blew us away. I had broiled oyster sampler and my lovely bride had the app strudel. The oysters were mouth watering, fresh, and savory, delicious. My main course was the duck, perfectly cooked, crispy with great flavored wild rice. My wife's DIVER scallop special was cooked perfectly, succulent and delicious...among the best scallop dish of our lives. With four drinks and two desserts our check totalled about $200 plus tip. This was top shelf fare for top prices. We were completely satisfied and I strongly recommend this restaurant.
The Ship Lantern Inn on Route 9W in Milton, NY is a charming and welcoming establishment that feels like stepping back in time. The old world decor adds to the ambiance and creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that is perfect for a romantic dinner or a night out with friends. The standout dish of the night was the Caesar salad, which was made fresh tableside and was full of flavor. The scallop special with leeks was also excellent - the scallops were perfectly cooked and the leeks added a wonderful depth of flavor. The fresh bread served with a tasty tomato tapenade was a great addition to the meal. To top off the meal, we shared a delicious apple crisp for dessert. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout the meal, and our server made great recommendations for dishes and drinks. Overall, I highly recommend the Ship Lantern Inn for anyone looking for a charming and enjoyable dining experience. The fresh and flavorful dishes, attentive service, and old world charm all contribute to a wonderful night out.
What a wonderful menu for Restaurant Week. The braised pork appetizer was spectacular. My mother had the rack of lamb for main course, I had the asta, and our guest the beef Wellington. All were delicious and the apple crumb at the end with pecan ice cream was the perfect end to a lovely meal. If you go any other time ask if they are serving the braised short, my absolute favorite special.
My mother had been wanting to visit this quaint tiny location, and I was happy to bring her for Mothers Day which was such a nice treat for all involved. The food is truly seasoned and ingredients you can tell can tell carefully picked just as the staff. You must require that it! Factor to become a waiter here. Our waiter was phenomenal! The chef is incredible. The staff makes you extremely comfortable and catered to. The food is worth every penny. I believe for 4 people fhee bill was around $300 maybe a tad more this included 3 alcoholic beverages. Very delicious and I can't wait to visit again soon!
Tried this place as a last minute option, Food was very good and the staff was very friendly. The atmosphere was okay could use a little sprucing up. The choices of entrees was good with options for everyone. I would say it's worth checking bout if you like checking out new places.
Went there for a work dinner. Food was great. Good portion size. Love the ambiance of the place. Place is always very clean and properly maintained. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Look forward to going again.
Our family went here to celebrate my sister's birthday 🎂 The food was good & the staff was attentive. It's still considered a high-end restaurant in the area. The waitstaff still wears B/W uniforms, and the former owners portrait is still proudly hung in the entryway. It hasn't changed much over the years and brought back fond memories of previous family gatherings.
The ambience is rustic and quaint. The food is delicious and the plating was nice. We ordered the filet mignon and short rib. The service is friendly and on point. The menu is just right focusing on fish and meat. A nice variety of drinks and desserts. We ordered the carrot cake and it was different. It was good but not my favorite.
Very nice place if looking to impress others. My short ribs and risotto were excellent. My wife ordered shrimp with risotto. She felt the shrimp were way over cooked. Drinks were strong and the desserts were a good finish to the night.
We really love the Ship Lantern as a family: always impeccable service! Atmosphere is quietly upscale, but not pompous; like your family den; you always love the comfort. Food is always good; desserts are okay, ie I expected more crispy, crumbles on the apple crisp. If you want, go with an after dinner drink or special coffee.
We had a very nice dinner here. The staff is very professional and wears formal attire. The menu is very luxurious and perfect if you feel like spoiling yourself. There was a wide selection of drinks as well. I wanted to come here for a long time and it exceeded my expectations. I’ll be back for sure !
Have been wanting to try this place for a long time. Restaurant week was a great time to try it, appetizer and entree were great. Braised short rib was amazingly tender, and the risotto was fantastic! The dessert was good, but wasn't a traditional apple crisp. The cappuccino paired perfectly and was one of the best I've had. Definitely worth a visit, and we will be returning to try more of their regular menu.
We had a fabulous dinner which included delicious bread and complimentary dip, a wonderful steak, excellent potatoes and vegetables as well as cod fish and rice. I love the old world charm and the environment as well as the service. It was really wonderful dining . The only complaint I have is that the fish was very fishy it was covered with the sauce that masked the fact that it wasn’t very fresh. I had stomach pain for 3 days. I wish this wasn’t the case since my experience there was enjoyable.
Valentine's Day night 2025. My first time back at the Ship in over 10 years. Boy have things changed. We got the Valentine's Day Special. We were seated at a card table with a table cloth on it. We ordered the Valentine's Day special surf and Turk for 2. My date's filet was undercooked and mine over cooked....but it wasn't noticed before it was too late to send back. Lobster was cold and the drawn butter was late to the table. Water glass was not refilled until asked. Bar service (glass of wine) was extremely slow. This used to be a premium restaurant. I can say after tonight, there are better in the Hudson Valley. Probably will not return, unfortunately. Edit: I responded to management and had a productive conversation. I am editing my score assuming this was just a busy holiday issue. We will return at some point and give them another try during a normal dinner evening.
Excellent food, professional service. We ate on the outdoor patio, which is relatively new. The patio is very pleasant. Inside the restaurant, the decor is very dated. The interior needs new carpeting and general freshening up. One of the restrooms has been updated...it is very nice, and almost doesn't fit with the dingy rest of the interior. The parking lot is oddly configured and clumsy. Decor aside, for an old school, great food/professional service restaurant experience, this is hard to beat. But you could duplicate the meal elsewhere for far less money. Expect pricey food and drink, and dine on the patio if you can.
I was extremely disappointed with the meal I received. I had the shrimp with cheese risotto. I received three very dry jumbo shrimps with risotto that was not what I consider a true risotto. It was not creamy and it was unseasoned in spots and then over seasoned in others. My husband and son-in-law both were quite ill in the middle of the night after eating here. They had shared the oyster appetizer and the escargo appetizer. My husband got the cheesecake with pineapple. It seemed like an odd pairing to me, but he was excited about it. However, he felt that cheesecake was mundane and nothing special especially for the rather high price of it. The standout dish was the honey creme brulee. It had a lovely rest on top and tasted of Honey.
After many lovely experiences, we just had a horrendous experience and will never be returning. An older couple (who had a bit too much to drink) yelled at us and our children while we were all eating outside. We chose to eat outside knowing our children are noisy and messy, but we have done so many times before both here and elsewhere with no issue. After multiple drinks and leaving to smoke a cigarette and return for more drinks, the couple verbally attacked our family, chastising us for our children’s noise and mess. The couple was very loud and aggressive and they made our 2 and 6 year olds cry. They humiliated us and forced us to cancel our dessert and coffee and leave. While we waited for our check, they continued to yell at us. No one on the staff stood up for us and the waitress said “I don’t have to deal with this,” and walked away. The yelling and intoxicated woman told us she knows the owner and would call tomorrow (not sure to what end). They told us they dine there every week. We love this restaurant, and, while we can’t afford to go regularly, we go for all special occasions as we did today (it was my birthday). It felt pretty clear we were not welcome. Not only was no one sympathetic, they just all went inside and left us alone with this couple who yelled at us and humiliated us. Tonight was my birthday dinner and I chose to spend it at one of our favorite restaurants, but after what happened, we will never return. Any families looking to bring children should think twice as it does not feel as though children are welcome as you might get yelled at and shamed away by a regular customer while the staff looks the other way. What a terrible end to my birthday and a lovely relationship with a restaurant we can never enjoy again.
Service staff was less than attentive. Food arrived for 13 people. Not once did the service staff asked if everything was ok, Never came around to refresh our drinks. Desserts were ordered, missing one. Tip was included on the bill for BAD service.
The place is beautiful. Was looking forward to dining outdoors. Little waterfall on the patio is nice. First time here and for the price, wasn’t blown away by the food. Best part was the bread and butter. Everything else was pretty bland. I understand the hospitality industry is not the easiest, I’ve worked in hospitality. I don’t feel like the service was very attentive. An issue arose during this dining experience and the response from one of the staff was to say ‘I don’t care and it’s not my problem’. Unfortunately disappointed and not interested in returning.
Never ate there but called for a reservation and whoever Matt is, he’s rude AH.
Bread was good. Everything else was extraordinarily disappointing. Service was probably the worst out of everything. I believe there might have been a time this restaurant was a wonderful place to go and enjoy a nice meal, but that is no longer the case. Do better Ships Lantern.
I am local to the area and have eaten here a lot over the years. And the dinner I had this weekend was the worse. I eat out quite a bit and I could of had a better prime rib at long horn steak house and for half the price. One of the people in my party ordered salmon and they were very unhappy with there meal as well. If you are going to charge expensive prices then it better be top notch not second rate. I have had a lot of other people tell me that they have gone down hill in resent years not the same ship that sailed years ago. Not to mention that the waitress would bring you totally something different than what you asked for.
Describing this experience is not what I expected.. We have eaten here many times and that is why we came back..The food and the atmosphere..What a shock..first off..bartender was a bit crass for this cozy restaurant..but the delightfully crisp snacks with dips at bar were a nice welcoming throwback..Once seated at our table I could not help to notice a table full of pre prepped salads..it was not crowded at time so I was a bit confused..I ordered a Caesar salad anyway..it was ok..my husband ordered a Caprese salad which he liked.. for dinner he ordered the lobster and crab risotto.I ordered the sole with crab and asparagus..asparagus were so tough that I could not cut through..his lobster risotto was the texture of soup with inedible chunks of crab and lobster..my sole was only edible if I ate the middle part.. the vegetables that came with meal,a trio of lumped and dumped and totally flavorless and inedible.. I should have read reviews before we went but didn't feel the need.. clearly, they are going through a change, but for now, we will not be going back any time soon...UPDATE...I have talked to the manager, Matt, sincerely a nice man..but I will still hold solid to this post.. we will go back again to try another meal..he was kind enough to reach out to post..We did not want to disrupt patrons who came in, so we decided to leave without any inconvenience to staff or the patrons sitting nearby..Matt was kind enough to offer a gift certificate which I kindly declined.. this is not why I post.. We just enjoy going to great places..
My Family and I just left the ship in celebration of my mother's birthday. This place did not live up to the prior experiences we've had. We have been long time customers of the Ship and were exited to come back for a sepcial occasion. The meal was 300$ after tip and that was with them comping my drink and we did not get dessert. I ordered the Lobster and Crab Rissoto. It was so undercooked it was crunchy. After two bites I flagged down a random waitress (serving is done "team style") and told her It was inedible. Additionally, that same rice was served with my mother's braised short rib.The server took my meal and offered me a replacement or to have it remade, I said remade was fine. She came back a few minutes later and informed me that the dish would be over the same rice, and if I wanted it over something else like angle hair, I said that was fine. After enough time had passed that my party had finished their meals, I got my own again. It was better. My issue is, they did not stop serving the undercooked rice. I saw several plates come out with risotto on them and frankly it was extremely disappointing. I understand it can be hard to pivot on something that's a staple for dinner but that was a GIANT disservice to the customers. Secondly, I am extremely upset with cheap scheme they were running. Upon being read the "specials" we were informed of a pesto buratta and "that there was only one of those left". We ordered it because it sounded very appealing, NOT because there was "only one left". They processed to tell evey other table after us that there was "only one buratta left". Frankly it is an insult. In an establishment that is supposedly upholding a reputation from 1925, and prior to this was known for its ambiance, impeccable cuisine and services. To be clear, aside from the risotto issue the food was okay, but just okay. However, the environment was mediocre. Children running around and screaming, kicking the tables to point of shaking the glasses and silverware. That isnt necessarily the restaurants fault, this comment is more so people understand that the environment has certainly changed in recent years. Only MY drink was taken off the bill. 2 stars because 3 was too high and 2.5 wasn't an option. We will not be returning.
The staff was exemplary, knowledgeable, attentive and pleasant. It was a special occasion, midweek with very few patrons. Our appetizers were good, not special but good. I ordered a seafood risotto dish. The seafood was tasty but the risotto was not done…and actually had to be chewed. I alerted the server within a few minutes of my meals arrival. Apologies were made, I was offered a new meal but by then my spouse was halfway done with his meal …so I declined. No effort to comp or even an offer for a free dessert. I did order the apple cobbler— definitely not homemade and not up to par for a higher end restaurant. We have had prior excellent experiences there … our bill was $200 before tip!
The bartender Brian was the only positive. His drinks were amazing .As for the dining staff, they were so unattentive. Never brought a wine list or asked how the food was. I remember when this place was the standard for excellent service but this sadly is no longer the case. I understand the dress code is business casual but couldn't believe the table next to me with legs spread with foot up on her partners table. No longer elegant dining. Not to mention how bland the food was. The filet mignon was tough, tasteless and overcooked. Never saw the waitress to let her know. We have dined here before and I believe the reason maybe different ownership.
This place is not what it used to be . People showing up in jeans, Wait staff had to be asked to light the candle on the table. This is no longer a class act restaurant the table we were sat at had the top blistering the water glasses would not even stand up straight. I wouldn't use this table as a work bench let alone ask a friend to eat at it or try to serve customers on it. The staff moved us to another table and it wasn't much better. That aside we had a party of 4. 2 of us ordered the twin lobster tails $ 77.00 per plate price was fine But the tails were cooked to a steak comparison to well done, they were the absolute worst prepared tails we have ever had. The rest of the food brought to the table was comparable to that of a bad Diner. I don't anticipate this place being in business much longer.Do yourself a favor and stay away. We should have listened to Friends that had a recent visit with very bad comments, but we thought no way this was a staple for or family for fine dining for may years. I guess all good things come to an end.
Well I’ve eaten here before and never had bad food. The issue with service stems from a call for a reservation I tried to make on 6/15/25 about 2:50 pm. The guy was rude and should NOT be anywhere near a customer. I had to hang up because of his behavior. UPDATE: Received a response from the manager who resorted to denial. I am not one who complains (see previous complaints - only one) but I do know when someone is rude. I will just take my business elsewhere and will not recommend this place.
One word! Disappointing! Heard great things about SLI for years! We Thought Valentines dinner would be a great opportunity to try the steak and lobster!! Well!! Lobster was either freezer burnt or rotten! Steak (medium well) was a hockey puck! Waiter never refilled water or lit the candle at our table! Spent over $600 on food that we could’ve made 100000% better at home! Thanks Matt, but your food should be spot on every single service. I can excuse waitstaff for being exhausted but the meals should be 5 star.
I’ve been here many times in the past and I’m extremely disappointed on my last meal. Got the worst table in the restaurant after being told to avoid the earlier times and getting a “crappy table”. The food was terribly prepared (see picture). Also, the service was awful. I’m not sure I will return after many years of being a consistent customer.
