Went here for my wife's birthday. We were seated quickly and the service overall was good. While the menu had a limited selection, the food they did have was delicious. They locally sourced their ingredients and make their meals to order. We got an appetizer entree and dessert, and one of their lemonades (blueberry mint). The corn flatbread appetizer was fantastic. I was very happy that they remembered that it was my wife's birthday, and they even had a hand written birthday card for her. Would go again.
Delicious drinks and the best food I've ever had in Utah. I wish I had taken more photos but we had the steak and the short rib gnocchi and they were so full of flavor and melted in your mouth. We also had the pork belly appetizer as well as the Brussels sprouts and baked ricotta with focaccia. Oh my goodness they were all amazing.
Love this place for brunch, the avocado toast and unicorn French toast is always to die for. It’s also fun to come in the evenings for a drink when there is live music, a great little spot overall.
We had an incredible experience at Block. The Mary’s chicken and short rib gnocchi were outstanding. Rich in flavor and beautifully prepared. Service was top notch from start to finish. It happened to be my birthday, and we made the rookie mistake of bringing our 2 year old in the middle of her terrible twos. What could have been stressful turned into a sweet moment when one of the cooks noticed her struggling and handed her a unicorn headband to play with. Later, during dessert, she accidentally dropped and shattered a Gallotto glass bowl. The servers rushed over, handled it with kindness, and quickly cleaned it up without making us feel uncomfortable. The food is reason enough to go back, but the way the team treated our family made this meal unforgettable. Highly recommend.
First off - some of these other reviews complaining about the cost and the small menu show how small minded some people are. This is a Farm to Table gem in Utah County. Very hard to find and even though I love X in Salt Lake, this is every bit as good. It is not cheap to source food locally and build an attractive menu on more limited options. I’ve brought clients here from other countries who have sophisticated tastes and they love Block. Go hit up the local Taco Bell if you want cheap, low quality, out of the freezer, food with too many choices. Okay, now my latest review: This is probably my favorite local place to eat. The variety and flavor of the dishes with locally sourced ingredients is phenomenal. The ox tail has great flavor with a nice kick to it. The duck was tender and full of flavor. The peach desert with pistachio gelato was yummy, save room for it.
We were quite surprised by this unassuming restaurant in a mostly commercial area. I wanted something local, unique, and delicious with gluten-free options. What an excellent choice! It started off a bit odd with the host being gone, and it took awhile for someone to seat us. Then we noticed the menu is just one page and pretty limited. We almost left. Thankfully the server arrived and was super nice. She explained that most things were GF or could easily be modified to be GF. While the menu is pretty limited, it has a good variety. They source as many local products as possible and have unique flavors. The pot de creme (chocolate mousse) with whipped cream (with Bailey's in it) and nuts (toffee normally but pecans for GF) is now in my top 10 desserts ever. So amazing. They also have unique drinks with fun names. We were so glad we stayed! Definitely recommend!
My husband and I both liked the pork loin the best! It was really good and very filling. My husband loved the Block Wedge Salad. We made reservations for the earliest dinner time, and we couldn't order the soup of the day because it wasn't ready. We had an overall nice experience and the food was delicious.
Wow!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ This was some truly unexpected great Italian food. The escargot was out of this world. Our friend who had never tried escargot before was over the moon for it and is an official convert. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ However, the top floor was absolutely freezing!!! Dinner was great but we were all shivering the entire time. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yum! Yum! Yum! My parents were visiting me from out of town and we wanted to go somewhere new for Sunday brunch. I found Block and we decided to try it out. We didn’t have a reservation, but the hostess was really sweet and was able to find a way to seat us. Our server Kaden was amazing! He was so nice and personable! Not to mention his service was perfect! The food was delicious! The French toast was so light and fluffy and the unicorn syrup was to die for. My moms eggs Benedict had perfectly poached eggs and the hollandaise sauce was *chefs kiss*! The restaurant has a great ambiance and everyone we interacted with was so great. 10/10 would recommend and will be back again soon!:)
Edit: Nov 2024- Still & Always the best 👌 Edit June 2021: Still 5 stars and still our fav restaurant, but today was the first day I was a little disappointed. The pork loin I ordered was a little oversalted, enough to allow me to finish about half the fish (which is somewhat a good thing, if ya get me) and it was also a bit too fatty on some parts. Otherwise, it was super juicy and cooked well. We had the pork flatbread appetizer and that was to die for. My husband loved his trout dish in a curry sauce. We also had the beet salad and the wedge, both incredibly good, and I hate Bleu cheese. So good! --------------- We had such a great experience with our server Abby! So glad we came here and had this experience. So, we arrived and immediately ordered an appetizer, which never got to our table. We watched the other tables receive theirs and eventually received our main dishes, while being told the appetizer was still coming. We finished our food and they apologized profusely and gave us free dessert as an apology, which we were way more than happy to accept! My favorite part was that Abby apologized and said she really didn't want "our experience" to be bad. We love that they focus on the experience of it all rather than explaining it another way. We ordered the ribeye and the burger. Both VERY good, best steak in Provo/Orem for sure. Medium/rare on both, not bloody at all and so tender and delicious. We ordered the poached pear and the Panna cotta for dessert and they were both very good. We will be back, for sure! ------------- Edit: March 2021 We have been back here like...10 times since this first experience and they have never slacked ONE time. Not one time. Food is always amazing, service is great, the menu is awesome and the drinks are so, so good. My favorite place, even in comparison to several SLC places. I prefer it over HSL, SLC Eatery, and definitely over market street grill.
The Block Restaurant is an outstanding eatery. I was very impressed with the exquisite flavors, textures, contrasts, and spices that surrounded my dining experience. The chef explores many senses to expand your palette. The restaurant brings all produce and meat in locally from the valley. The team works hard to support local businesses. Along side the great food, the staff brought a genuine, exciting, yet relaxed climate. My wife and I felt very welcomed and plan to come back for brunch. Excellent job!
You need to experience this place, at least one time. This place had the perfect environment for brunch. Laid back, cozy, elevated feel. They put time and effort into all they do, and the food reflects that. Locally sourced goodness that meets or exceeds expectations. I ordered the house made biscuits and gravy. My oh my!! It was phenomenal and downright tasty. No shortage of taste and even the presentation of the food made me feel a little guilty cutting into it to eat. However, I was over that feeling pretty quickly with how good it was. Our server was great, friendly, knowledgeable (Alicia (sp?)) and helped add to our good time here. I give a strong recommendation to this place.
Highly recommend!! The gravy is life. Order the biscuits and gravy with a side of potato wedges for brunch! The mimosa are fantastic, you can ask for prosseco instead of champagne. The cocktails are amazing and made with local liquor. The potato wedges were perfectly seasoned and crispy. The service was also fantastic. Sunday brunch needs a reservation, so plan ahead! **Just had dinner for the first time here at The Block and I am blown away. The fish was incredible. The wine list is great. And charcuterie board was an amazing appetizer. The Panna cotta was a little firm but still tastes delicious. I love this restaurant. Blake our server was the best!
Came here for a breakfast on a Saturday, it was so chill, clean, and delicious! Very impressed with all of the flavors in the dishes and quality ingredients used! We got the house lemonade, eggs Benedict and French toast! Spent $47 total
my husband and I love the block! we are from out of state and don’t love the food in utah but the block is one of our spots! Surprised it doesn’t have better reviews so I had to leave one. My husband is gluten intolerant and they are SO helpful and kind with substitutes and we think the food is yummy!
Delicious food and drinks, wonderful service and ambience. Our server was Kai, and we were continuously impressed by him throughout the evening. Not only did I value his opinion in selecting my dinner options, but I loved that he could answer every random question one of us decided to ask him as he approached our table! We made references to other restaurants in SLC, food and certain words from France, Philippines, Japan, and Kai didn't miss a beat. He has got to be my favorite server of all time!
I was surprised to find such a gem in the heart of Provo. I appreciate the interior design of the restaurant and the ambiance. But most of all, I can tell the chef is passionate about what they do and genuinely inspired. It was so good and reminded me what's exciting about food. It is definitely worth going to.
The food is superb ! Everything felt like an explosion of Flavors and freshness in your mouth. The service is amazing, as they are able to recommend food off the menu according to whatever you may be craving And they simply radiate great energy which makes you want to stay. Ambiance is cool too.
This is the one of the best brunch spots in Utah County. Their food is always amazing and their creative brunch cocktails pair perfectly. It’s one of the only places in Utah County that even serves cocktails with brunch. Honestly I thought about giving them a one star so that they don’t get too popular. 😉
Farm to table, seasonal chef crafted meals. We started off with the Artichoke Ricotta dip and their outstanding charcuterie board featuring Spanish almonds, pickled blue berries, local goat cheese, and house made dijon mustard. For our entrées we had pan seared potato gnocchi, spring lake rainbow trout with coconut leek sauce, and the brioche bun block burger with sweet potato fries 😍 We will be back as soon as possible!
What a pleasant surprise and great find! We found this place on Open Table, and since we love trying new restaurants, we gave this place a shot for my wife's birthday this week. GREAT choice! The food is fresh and well prepared. The flavors are amazing, with complimenting ingredients that create that unique 'pop' when done right. We had a special appetizer, grilled scallops on a carrot based purée. The only complaint was that there were only three scallops. Too good to limit to just 3 :) My wife ordered the Block Wedge Salad and the Howse Made Potato Gnocchi with braised short ribs. The salad dressing had just a bit of kick to it that added a nice dimension to a traditional dish. The pickled red onion and bacon chunks were a perfect match. The Gnocchi was like eating Sunday Roast at home with mom, in every bite. AMAZING! I had the Beets Salad and the Clifford Farms Pork Loin. The combination of roasted and pickled beets were fantastic. Not what I would have chosen myself, (I let the server choose my meal), but it was a great selection. Wonderfully surprised. The Pork Loin was very different than my wife' gnocchi. The gnocchi is the definition of comfort food with its rich flavors, while my Pork Loin exploded with a light and herb based pallet. The Pork Loin had a ton of flavors to enjoy. The pea farro and the pesto added whole new dimensions to the pork. Reasonably priced, this was a great find for the value! We will be back...and with friends!!
Celebrating our 5th Wedding Anniversary at Block Restaurant was perfect! The quality, freshness and taste of the food was excellent. The whole ambience and look of the restaurant was great. Could not have asked for a better service or food!
Absolutely amazing. The food was so good... beet salad was to die for, braised short rib was incredibly tender, and the strawberry cheesecake was a breath of fresh air compared to American style cheesecakes. I was bummed that they were out of their blackberry lime panna cotta, but I guess that just means I'll have to come back before they switch their flavor for the season.
I loved it! I'll be back to try out more on the menu for sure! I had the avocado toast and a side of bacon. Update the whole menu is delicious. I've become a regular. Make sure to get a reservation they're popular
My friends and I came for Saturday brunch, and I ordered the Avocado Toast. YUM! It was delicious. Compliments to Erica and staff for letting our party take up donning space for a lengthy time. We had a lot of catching up to do and the staff never made us feel rushed to leave. There were a couple items momentarily forgotten like hot sauce, salt and pepper, but the food, staff and ambience made up for it with a 4.8 giving it 5 stars.
Block Restaurant is an absolute hit. The atmosphere is quite nice and very clean. The food has always been great and their menu offers a wide range of premium options. We had their baked ricotta as an appetizer and it came out hot and smelled amazing. The spring lake trout was cooked to perfection. Their cocktail menu was very robust but also descriptive; you’ll know exactly what you’re going to get in each drink. The cocktails came out with elegant presentation and very smooth and even flavor. The wait staff was very kind from the warm welcome all the way up to boxing up our food. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for a nice place to eat that nails it every time.
I had such a great experience at Block Restaurant during my recent trip to Provo. The food was outstanding from start to finish. I ordered the burger, which was absolutely to die for — one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The beef tallow fries were incredible, and the focaccia appetizer with the baked ricotta was so delicious I’m still thinking about it. Dessert was fantastic as well. The pumpkin dessert was rich, flavorful, and the perfect finish to the meal. Beyond the food, the service was excellent. The staff was extremely friendly, attentive, and made the experience feel warm and welcoming. I would definitely go back and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food and great service in Provo. Sincerely, Megan J.
Steak was cooked perfectly medium rare, great sear and rested well so juices stayed in. Sides like the roasted veggies and mashed potatoes were on point too. It's upscale but not stuffy, staff knew the menu inside out and wine suggestions were solid. A little loud when full but overall great night out.
We had a blast here. Chef Rafael’s menu was incredible. The BBBB was very tasty, and the Hash was yummy as well. The service was good, and the price is affordable for the quality they deliver.
I genuinely have no words! This was hands-down the best breakfast I’ve had in ages. The food, the atmosphere, and the coffee were all amazing. It was so good I actually went and thanked the chefs myself.
Had such a great time! Went with my dad and we loved it! The only downside was one of the meals we got, the bread was so dry and there was no sauce so it really was lacking in the savory department. Our waitress was so sweet but not super attentive, we would try to raise our hands to get her attention and she would still walk past. Otherwise great experience! The Peach French Toast was probably the greatest breakfast I’ve ever had, more filling than you think! I would also get a side of bacon!
My burger was great, other food was alright. Maddie took our orders and she was super helpful and accommodating. 11/10 for the service, 6/10 for the food. Slightly pricey too. Best part was the dessert.
The food was amazing, I got the fruit bowl with Greek yogurt and Granola the fruit was not over sweet just right amount of sweetness and I also got the Mansando breakfast sandwich with potatoes everything tasted delicious. For the drinks I got an Apple juice it tasted like apple cider yummy then I also got the Apple spiced, my friend got the Pomegranate Mimosa they were delicious. I found this place on Instagram it's definitely worth visiting.
Very nice birthday brunch! The food and mimosas were great. The fries were just a little too salty. The staff was friendly and acknowledged my birthday. The only thing is that the check was brought before asking if I needed anything else (in case I wanted to order another mimosa or dessert) so I decided against ordering anything else as it felt like it would be inconvenient.
Beautiful restaurant. Food was incredible in terms of flavor, the only shortcoming being that the steak came out cold. That said, the whole experience was still lovely, and the steak was still tasty despite non-preferable temperature. Service was efficient and considerate.
I typically visit the block once a month and every single time I have an amazing experience. The food is farm to table. The service is very attentive and fast. The flavor that they are able to create in each and every plate is incredible and very hard to find in other restaurants. It tastes fresh, authentic and savory. Overall, I would highly recommend this spot. The only down fall is that it is extremely popular so sometimes they have a long wait but it’s well worth it.
For what it costs, the food was pretty average. I know it is kind of farm to table and all that. The service I thought was underwhelming- somehow they botched my order, and it was delivered about 20 minutes after my wife's food. The server also wasn't super attentive to our drinks. The reason I put 4 stars for service is because of what came next- the manager came over, personally apologized, comped a dessert, and took $15 off my bill as well. That seemed exceptional.
Block is one of the good (once was great) restaurants in Utah County. The food is still very good, but often there is something lacking. The trout has long been one of their staple dishes. Their appetizers are often good (though didn’t love the Brussel sprouts). The wedge is great. I liked the pork loin they had recently. The biggest miss is getting rid of their feature dessert (popcorn panna cotta). The berry panna cotta is good, the chocolate pot de crème is really well executed (Dark, thick, and delicious), but they need to bring back their most creative and overall best dish…The popcorn panna cotta.
Predicated a place to eat period the service was good. If the food was good.
Fantastic place with quality food, service, and ambiance. The owner is incredible and is almost always in the thick of it with her staff- whom are fast and fantastic. Menu is quality, although I miss the rotating chefs special for brunch! Brunch is an absolute favorite. Can't recommend this place enough.
Love the atmosphere here - it’s very rustic and clean. The service is always friendly. I find the foot hit and miss, however. Some dishes are a little bland. Some are great. Just have to come enough to know what you like.
Not real impressed. Didn't suck per se, but didn't wow, just ok. I had the duck. The server warned me about the cold pasta, should have listened, you know it's bad when the server tells you to be careful to order it. But it was just soggy and dripping with sauce but it was watery. Accompanying sauce was pretty bland and unflavorable full. I didn't know what to do with the crispy rice paper, there's no flavor. It's just sitting there in the plate like it didn't belong. My friend got the hanger steak, said it was a little tough. Don't know why you have a low quality cut of meat at that price on the menu. And you only get a couple pieces like I wouldn't want a steak. I want a piece of steak not an appetizer. The charcuterie board was pretty boring, very wonky, hard to share the way it was set up. It just had a few pieces of cured meats but looks like same stuff you buy from the deli. . It's not easy to share the way it was set up. I don't know why you put soft and crumbly cheese on there the way you did. The jam was just kind of splattered on there. I was hoping to have some more creative, interesting meats and cheeses. I mean basically two salami's Brie and blue cheese and not like unique ones. Just basic regular everyday items. The dessert was really good (pot de créme), but you were out of two of the desserts which is frustrating when you only have a couple to begin with. I liked your lemonades , has some good options. I got the mango. Just feel like you could improve your game a bit if you want an honest opinion. I'm from out of state and have high expectations, especially for the prices you charge. I don't mind paying $50 to $100 on entrees, but it better be damn good. Not just okay. I can get okay at chain's and franchises.
From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere of this high-priced restaurant feels inconsistent with its prices and food quality. It feels like just another restaurant in Utah. The young, possibly inexperienced servers and the open kitchen where chefs and assistants are seen chatting and laughing do not exude the upscale vibe one would expect given the prices. For example, having a coat rack in the corner does not look presentable. However, our server was very kind. The food menu has very few options, and for a dish that costs $53, the portions are quite small, although the taste was quite good. For an appetizer, we ordered a goat cheese toast which was very good, spicy, and slightly salty, but still delicious. The drinks were $15 each, served in small glasses, but they were quite strong, so one was more than enough. Overall, it was a good experience, but honestly, I wouldn’t go back. The food, prices, and ambiance did not impress me.
I’ve had very mixed experiences at Block in the half dozen times I’ve eaten here over the past three years. Everything seems to be hit and miss. Sometimes service is excellent, and sometimes it’s terrible (even before the current worker shortage). Sometimes the food is phenomenal, and sometimes it’s incredibly disappointing. It’s also always cold in the restaurant, so bring a coat. My biggest consistent complaint is the menu descriptions: they usually list ingredients, but not always in a way that’s particularly understandable. It’s also often unclear when a dish will be spicy, which is problematic for GERD and other things. There are rarely enough vegetables served with entrees, if they’re included at all. I’m hesitant to recommend it to others because of how my experiences vacillate from one end of the spectrum to another. If you go for Valentines, it will probably be outstanding: both times we’ve been here for the holiday and ordered their special menu for the day, it’s been amazing.
Had reservations for four and arrived on time. Was seated immediately but the table was a little on the small side for four people and the music volume was fairly loud for having a conversation. It seemed that one half of the restaurant had the music and the other half did not. We were apparently in the wrong half this time. Orders were taken quickly and the server was very friendly. Coke products were served which was nice. All the food tasted good. But it was nothing spectacular. The gravy for the biscuits was very tasty but the biscuits themselves were kind of okay. It's definitely worth a try, but it's not high on my list to return to.
I'm really not sure how to describe this place. It is one of the most expensive restaurants in Utah County. We spent more than $120 for two, no drinks and before the tip. To start we tried the special for the day - lobster mac n cheese! It was good, it was a bit salty and the lobster was overcooked. As an entre - I ordered the House made gnocchi, and my wife had Mary's Chicken. Despite farm to table ingredients and prepared on demand, do you wait a little while for your food. We both thought that the dishes were "Meh", at best. Mine was basically a fancy pot roast with potatoes shaped like gnocchi. My wife thought hers tasted like a chicken pot pie. All three dishes were heavy on salt. We were disappointed and although the food was very good, aside from the salt. I did not feel it Rose to the occasion of having a mid-thirties $ price tag. I don't believe we'll be going back.
I saw some pictures on Instagram of the food here and just had to try it. The atmosphere was wonderful, very eclectic and reminded me of San Diego. The food was good, but nothing to rave about. We paid $65 before tip. Definitely not worth that much. I would have guessed it should be more around $30 for 2. The service was HORRIBLE. Our server didn’t check in with us once. She didn’t bring us the ketchup we had asked for. We waited 45 minutes AFTER we were done eating for our check. Safe to say, we won’t be going back.
The atmosphere is chic. The staff is pleasant. The food is terrible. It looks amazing but once you taste it you remember why you shouldn't eat the plastic grapes. They did comp us even though we didnt complain. I think they noticed the partially eaten food and saw the look on our face. That was nice of them to give a discount. That didn't improve the food. I had the duck and my husband had the hanger steak. Not good.
Thought of trying this place for our 26th wedding anniversary because I had heard relatively good things. Went to their website and lo and behold they were holding a special event for the exact date of our anniversary to usher in their new management. Sounded perfect. Reserved a spot as the instructions said and tried to call the next day to chat with someone about details, no one answered so I left a voice message. Within 30 minutes received an email saying my reservation was canceled by the restaurant. Tried calling, again no answer. Did not hear from them for over 24 hours, and when they did leave a voice mail they said the event was full and we could eat, in the corner, at the bar (for our 26th anniversary). And get this, they did not leave a name, nor gave contact info on who to call back (If we wanted to eat their limited menu - at the bar - not part of the event we registered for). Not sure who the new management is, but clearly they do not know what they are doing, have any concept of customer service nor professionalism. Looks like an omen of what is to come with this place? We'll take a pass on The Block Restaurant.
Went about a week ago on a Saturday. This used to be a good place to eat. We learned they recently changed owners and you can tell. Both of us got the hash and we very disappointed. Firstly the ingredients were not the same didnt even have Brussels sprouts in it like it literally says on the menu and the food was chunky not finely chopped. We did also get single pancake and it was dry but the unicorn syrup was good! It was disappointing to see a place we usually loved go down
