We went to The Pit on a recommendation and it was fantastic. We enjoyed all of our dishes. Chopped BBQ dish was a great size. The Sweet Potato Casserole was delicious! Brisket was yummy as well. We enjoyed all the sides for sure. This was our first time enjoying BBQ in NC! Friendly waiter as well!

The Pit Authentic Barbecue was a great experience for our group of 4 adults and 3 kids. They were very accommodating and had something for everyone on the menu. We started with the pimento cheese balls, which were super cheesy and delicious. They also brought out biscuits and hush puppies, and those were perfect to start the meal. For the kids, we ordered a hot dog with fries, mac and cheese with fries, and a cheeseburger with fries. All of the kids loved their meals. The fries were really good (even I enjoyed them!), and the mac and cheese was definitely the favorite. The adults ordered a double combo with pulled pork and brisket, and it was big enough to easily split between two people. My husband and I both got the Pit bacon cheeseburger, and it was so good and huge. I ended up taking half home for later. My husband also got mac and cheese and shared it with the kids, while I ordered the Brussels sprouts, which were amazing. The staff was really friendly, and everything came out nicely. Overall, it was a great meal and a great experience, especially for families.

I have to start with the amazing service we received from T! She not only made great recommendations, but treated us like her best friends. The food was amazing, but meeting T is what made the whole visit unforgettable. We shared a combo plate and appetizer sampler since we wanted to try a bit of everything. Nothing disappointed!

Service was friendly and food was really good. Really liked the hushpuppies and biscuits. If I had some honey or jelly that could have been a meal by itself. Got the chopped bbq plate, slaw and baked beans. Delicious. Both sauces were good and plain as they served it. Only drawback to the place is just that interior is very nice and so the atmosphere for me wasn't like a regular bbq joint.

We had a great experience here. Being from out of town, we loved the biscuits and hush puppies! Our server, T, went out of her way to make us feel welcome and provided exceptional service. The food was great! The burgers were incredible! We loved our time at the pit!

Service and atmosphere felt like home and got treated like a regular. I got hush puppies as complimentary. I don’t think anyone got it either nor was it on the menu. I sat at the bar. First meal of the Day at 2pm hungover from the night over. So I needed some drinks in before I could eat. Went to the Billie Eilish concert the day before. Flew from Indiana. I basically tried to order everything. Stew was nice. The staff was nice. Gave me a free drink too. Deviled eggs were as expected. Fried chicken was good, but had better. Coleslaw was delicious, up there as my top 3. Sausage and brisket felt dry, flavor was there but I might had gotten an off batch. Ribs probably one of the best I had at a restaurant. I like to bbq myself at home. Either way, will go back again if I’m ever in town.

One of the best BBQ meals I’ve ever had. The Carolina Ribs were so flavorful and moist, couldn’t ask for more! All of the sides were perfection, I had the Mac and cheese and the potato salad. Service was top notch Keith was an amazing server!

Great food, fast service. Was quiet once the large party left! 100% recommend

The Pitt has great meats. The BBQ chicken was fantastic, smoky and moist in both dark and white meat. My husband's brisket was tasty, but we both preferred my chicken over the brisket. We loved the sweet potato casserole, but the Mac and Cheese was just good, nothing special. Service was prompt and friendly. The chicken plate with two sides was $20, so it felt really fair in price.

We had such a great experience at The Pit! Our server Kay was absolutely amazing! She was super attentive, friendly, and made sure everything came out fast and exactly how we wanted it. The food was delicious from start to finish. Highly recommend the mac and cheese, the BBQ soy nuggets, and the mashed potatoes with gravy which were all packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. Definitely a must-visit spot in Raleigh if you’re craving good Southern comfort food and great service. We’ll be back!

Great meat selection and I was pleasantly surprised to see vegan/vegetarian options too! Loved the pimento cheese balls, fried okra, and the big boy meat combo - plenty for 3 people. Drinks were well poured and our waiter was such a funny guy! Absolutely worth going!

Some of the best I've had. The only thing I think needs attention is the Brisket. I could eat here everyday.

I’m visiting North Carolina with my friend and we decided to have some Bbq food! The service and food was excellent, I love the wings and brisket

My only issue is I could not eat all it all. The good is really good. Too many good options.

The Pit BBQ is hands down some of the best barbecue you’ll ever have! The meat is tender, smoky, and packed with flavor, and the sides taste just like true Southern comfort food. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff makes you feel right at home. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and every bite leaves you wanting more. If you’re a fan of real barbecue, The Pit is a must-visit!

A little loud, but who cared. You get so much delicious food, and everything was scrumptious. Yes, everything. You can't go wrong here, and they even have a family style option. Chicken was better than your grandma's and the collars were amazing. Definitely worth it.

Met G and complimented the food the whole experience was over the top. Calm setting , fresh hot tasty food first time here and so glad w stopped by. Heard a lot of great things about this place from one of my co workers and came to try it for myself and I was not disappointed at all. The chopped pork , brisket and pulled pork was the 3 item dish I had with mashed potatoes, Cole slaw and Mac n cheese (favorite) we also got a sampler appetizer which had a little bit of the restaurants top favorite appetizers. The service was amazing and our server was ontop of refills and regularly checking in on us. I recommend it to anyone in the area craving not just bbq but an authentic one of a kind restaurant experience like no other. Very comfortable area we sat in. They have a bar area and high tables as well. Very accommodating to everybody.

Good food, vibes and service! You must order the fried green tomatoes.

Had the double meat platter. Pulled pork and BBQ chicken with baked beans and Mac and cheese. Then finished with the best banana pudding I've ever had. Pork was moist and tender with just the right amount of smoke and the chicken had great flavor maybe just a tad bit dry but definitely good. Our server Matthew was very quick and did a great job.

T was a wonderful server! Not only did she take care of our table but two other tables and a large party! She was able to juggle everything with perfection! My husband and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary here! This was where we went on our first date and we have been coming back every year since. We have never been disappointed! Always great service and wonderful food!

Brady, Our Waiter 12/19/25 was super awesome we drove up from Ohio for our anniversary to celebrate and get out of the winter zone. He was very helpful and friendly. He was extremely down to earth and he supported and surprised us with banana pudding dessert to celebrate with candles! It was so thoughtful of him. Thank you for your gratitude and support. We will be coming back for more ribs and pull pork it was delicious and tender! Sincerely, Rosalynn and Demetrius!

We had a surprise retirement party for my brother recently at The Pit. From start to finish I couldn't have asked for anything better. Kimberly in the catering department was excellent. Her communication, suggestions, follow up, were on point. We had to change dates due to the snow and she was so flexible and accommodating. The staff was great and seemed so happy to be there working and making sure everyone had what they needed. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was perfect and service was amazing. Thank you to all that were involved with our party and helping make it so special!

I had a delicious dinner at The Pit last evening. I was greeted when I entered and quickly escorted to a nice "half" table (since I was solo). My server was Claire, and she was super friendly and helpful. She brought me tasting glasses of two of the draft beers I was considering, and I decided on the Pumpkin Ale, which was delicious. I ordered the brisket plate with the sweet potato casserole and mac and cheese sides, and I tried to wait for it to come out and not fill up on the biscuit and hush puppies she brought out! Everything was really good. I'm sure I'll be back when I next visit Raleigh.

Great staple for some Carolina style bbq, great spot, huge location, lots of seats and great outdoor patio space. Can't go wrong giving this place a try and see. The service I great but can be slow since they Will get busy. So come at odd hours if you're not patient. But the Carolina bbq pork sandwich hits the spot. I'm a big fan of their bbq sauces. And they always have some to go.

Recently had the opportunity to visit this great BBQ joint and I totally loved it! Great drinks , great appetizers and entrees. We enjoyed everything. However I would suggest to add some vegetarian options like BBQ Cauliflower:)

The food and service were good. My meatloaf was tender and flavorful. My husband enjoyed his salmon. They give very generous portions. I was rather disappointed that a server actually vacuumed the empty dining room side we were bordering and came right up behind our table so that the exhaust from the vacuum blew our way while we were eating.

Food is good but this place used to be really fast for lunch and is now really slow (noticed this my last 2 visits). I don't recommend going unless you have time to wait.

Tried the carolina style bbq. Very tangy and vinegary, not quite my palate. The macaroni was pretty good and so was the okra. I tried a local heffeweisen which was really good. The bartender was a nice guy and very kind. He offered me a substitution since i didn't like my bbq. The only frustration i had was that the check came slowly. I'd try this place again if i come back to town.

Decided to stop here for lunch on the recommendation of my hotel staff after they kicked me out at 11am and my flight isn’t until 5pm. Got here at 11:15am on a Friday, and there was almost nobody there, which was actually kind of nice compared to some of the other reviews where the place was packed. Bartender was extremely friendly and helpful with the menu, and easy to talk to, kudos to the customer service. I ordered a triple meat plate, with the ribs, chicken, and pulled pork. The pork was delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was nice and juicy. The ribs had good flavor, but in my opinion, they were way overcooked. “Fall off the bone” to me generally means overcooked, and that’s exactly what these ribs did… they didn’t have any bite to them. The flavor was good though. The food was good, but wasn’t really mind blowing and special to me. This is just a personal opinion though, and I have a favoritism toward Texas style bbq.

Visited on 2025/12/27 (picture 1) and 2024/12/23 (picture 2). Although the beef brisket portion decreased by 1/3 likely due to inflation, the food still tastes good.

Had dinner at The Pit while visitting Raleigh from out of state. We ordered the pit sampler for appetizer, and I ordered the big boy meat combo for my meal. I was disappointed with the sampler appetizer.. particularly the egg rolls.. the flavor just didn't work. The meat combo on the other hand was delicious and moist. Make sure to get the cornbread. Worth the stop if in the area and wanting BBQ.

M
Michael Skelton

The food was ok, the ribs are great, but the shredded pork and turkey were a little too shredded for me. Flavours were good, I really liked the creamed corn and slaw. Portions are massive, plenty to take home with you. I've never had strawberry flavoured corn bread for an appetizer though, that was unique.

It was good eating. We swipe out a couple of items. Not because it wasn't good, though, but because it wasn't quite the taste we were looking for. The brisket and pimento cheese balls were off the chain 😋. Overall, it's a good place to dine.

If you like BBQ, this is the place not to be missed in Raleigh Durham area. Cozy with great ambiance to spend time with friends and families. We went for brunch on a weekend. Wasn't crowded at all. We had reservations though. All the food was cooked to perfection and came out promptly. Biscuits, corn bread, okra fried, potatoes and gravy, Mac n cheese all sides and appetizer hush puppies, chicken wings, deviled eggs were delicious. Sweet patotor fries were too sweet for our taste. Main courses were as you'd expect at a popular BBQ joint. Great hospitable staff.

after our 45-minute wait, our orders were finally taken. The big boy burger was good and the pulled pork was...okay..bland really. Sweet potatoes were nice

T
Travis Truong

Overall, the restaurant was decent. The chopped BBQ was alright and the pulled pork could use a little more salt. On the other hand, the fried green tomatoes were delicious and nice and crispy with the dipping sauce complementing. The hushpuppies and the biscuit were also good.

M
Michael

A more upscale restaurant than it appears to be from the outside. While the food was tasty, I didn’t rate it a 5 because people in my group weren’t too happy with the food. As an example, the cornbread was made with sweet potatoes which changes the flavor completely. My baked beans were not the classic flavor I’m used to. So I would say this is a BBQ restaurant with a twist. Don’t go here if you are looking for a classic NC BBQ experience.

The meal was GREAT! Our waitress, Claire, was super nice and curteous. Did not take long for our meals to be served onced ordered. The Pit Cheesburger was fantastic and really satisfied the craving i had for a good burger. The only drawback of the dining experience was the hostess that sat us. One of the people in our party uses a walker to ambulate, we were not even asked if it would be better to sit somewhere close to the entrance or restrooms. Once in a while it is good to look up and acknowledge your clientele. Otherwise a nice experience.

I wanted to like this place because the atmosphere was really nice. Staff was kind as well but the food I just felt like it needed a bit more flavor. I had the fried chicken and have had better fried chicken from a fast food place. I expected a little bit more. My Mac and cheese was a bit dry as well. Hush puppies were good and the pulled pork was good as well but the main dish I ordered wasn’t it for me.

Tried The Pit’s all you can eat family style while visiting Raleigh. The deviled eggs, hush puppies, biscuits, and brunswick stew was great. And the service was friendly and fast. However, the BBQ (ribs and BBQ fries) was on the drier side and lacked the smoky moist depth you’d expect if you’re from the South. Potato salad didn’t really have much flavor compared to HEB’s potato salad. Myself I don’t eat much banana pudding, but my friend said it was good, so I’ll take his word for it. Solid experience overall with the atmosphere for a plate with apps, but BBQ lovers might find it a bit underwhelming if you went for the all you can eat option.

I really wanted to like this place. The staff is nice and welcoming. The service was fast and attentive. The restaurant was clean very nicely decorated, and I enjoyed their Christmas decorations. They also allowed me to order a sandwich to-go when it typically isn't on their dinner menu. BUT the food really had me wanting more. Just mid. The butter that came with our biscuits and hush puppies tasted like the stick of butter that's been hanging out in the back of my fridge for a few months. Hush puppies were good, biscuit was dry, sadly. I ordered the sausage, and I thought it was good, but it didn't feel like it went with the rest of my meal. It would have been good over dirty rice, but I ordered the baked beans and the collards. My baked beans were so dry. It made me feel like they've been sitting in the warmer all day. My collards had good flavor but were overcooked and soggy. My friend ordered the fried chicken with brussels and fries. She said the fried chicken was good and the portion is very generous. But, her brussels were also overcooked and soggy. If I had to guess by how quickly our food came out... most of the food we ordered is prepped way ahead of time and it definitely affects the quality. I don't think I can fairly review the pulled pork sandwich because my fiancé took it to lunch the next day, but he said it was just okay. A little dry... but again, it was the next day so take that with a grain of salt. He said the coleslaw was dynamite, so that's good. Lastly, I ordered the banana pudding to-go. I think its just okay. Theres a meringue type topping that really didn't taste like anything to me but the rest of the pudding was good. I'm not going to say that I wouldn't come back... but I'm not rushing to come back.

Our server was perfect. But the food was just ok. No one liked the cornbread- maybe we're just used to something different. The best thing that we all agreed on was the hushpuppies- they were excellent! Two of us got the brisket and it was bad. Tasted old and was tough. I ordered the bbq shrimp skewer and it has zero flavor. The shrimp wasn't seasoned very well- just had some bbq sauce on it but tasted like boiled shrimp with a dollop of sauce. The creamed corn - I think- was just creamed corn out of a can. It was bad. The fried pimento cheese balls were good. Everyone got green beans and loved them. But everything else was a miss. Would maybe go back for dinner sometime-and try other things- maybe it was an off day.

Good bbq sauce but rest of combo plate was a bit of a let down. Price wasn't bad with bogo deal though Brisket was chewy on the leaner end Mac and cheese is a oven/pan variety. Good for what it was but not a fan of the pasta with cheese layers type Mashed potatoes were honestly the star of the show. Good consistency and seasoning.

The food tasted great. However both my partner and I ended up with food poisoning. There was no other option for what made us sick either. Unfortunate because the wait staff was so nice too.

L

The presentation of the food was nice, but the quality of the food was disappointing, I am in town visiting and found this place, with great reviews, and it was not good. Pork ribs were bloody super undercooked. The brisket was blubbery, banana pudding was old, and dry bananas were black. The waiter was kind and helpful. I do not recommend this place. Maybe it was just a bad night

L
Laura

I was in town for work and stopped in for lunch based on the good reviews. It’s a nice place and service was really friendly, but sadly I thought the food was terrible. The brisket was so stringy and so hard on the edges I actually couldn’t bite through it. Also tons of fat, much more so then what I’ve ever had ordering it elsewhere. The meat was drenched in a bad tasting sauce. The Mac and cheese was completely dried out. They brought biscuits and hush puppies to the table which was a really nice offering but the hush puppies were completely cold. I actually couldn’t believe quite how bad the food was. I left almost the entire plate. You can see from the photos I moved the inedible parts of the brisket to another plate and it was a substantial amount. Maybe this was a bad day, but I would not want to eat the food here again.

The gentleman who waiting on us was GREAT, he ran the bar and the floor! THERE IS A REASON I DO NOT DO A LOT OF EATING OUT ANYMORE AND THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY! I called Saturday night to make a reservation for our Sister's 65th birthday for 15 people. We got there after church Sunday at 1pm and were advised we did not have a reservation. I advised the hostess that I spoke with the General Manager Tonya /Tanya last night and she scheduled it. Why my Sister wanted to go The Pit in the first place is beside me. I spoke with the General Manager and she scheduled the reservation(must have forgotten to put in the system). My daughter asked if I had received a notification about the reservation, I said no. The General Manager said nothing about she was going to send me a notification. So I called this morning and spoke with the General Manager and advised her there was no reservation yesterday when we got there. I cannot believe what she asked next, asked if we were able to still get seated. I said we were, but we were near the bar and the front door. We had two small children and my 5 year old grandson and that door was cold and it was raining. The General Manage advised me this morning when I spoke with her all she could do was apologize. I accept the apology, but I WILL NEVER EAT AT THIS PLACE AGAIN! The food was pretty good when we ate there the first time, but yesterday it was not that good at all. I have been in Customer Service since I was 16 and when I say it has gone OUT THE WINDOW in this country that is a understatement. If the General Manager is so non chalant and a little inconsiderate about the reservation what can we expect from her employees. I just will not ever eat there again and definitely would not recommend The Pit to anyone I know

Drove there expecting the amazing cream corn from years ago and it was no longer served. Now there is some cheap disgusting knockoff. They were one of the few places that served homemade cream corn. They also had house made apple sauce. It's now a cheaper worse version as well. Brisket was pretty good and chicken was burned and dry. Lone bright spot was the gentleman at the bar/ takeout area. Amazing customer service, knowledgeable and gracious. If only their staples hadn't changed.

T
Thomas Benjamin

Chicken was not clean properly! Feathers were still on the chicken. Sounds like it’s a bunch of kids working. Waitress found it funny. Won’t get my money or service anymore!
