Absolutely amazing - great food and excellent service.

The food was amazing and well plated, our waitress was very nice and attentive. It was a calm, quiet experience that allowed for good conversation at the table. I'll definitely be going back.

Went here for a birthday dinner and everything was fantastic. As both being vegetarians, staff was very accommodating and helpful with suggestions. Went for a basic vodka pasta and it was delicious. Not in this area of town too much, but will definitely be back!

This was our first visit, and it was lovely. We had reservations and were sat right away. Our waiter, Matty, went through the specials and we ended up ordering the crab cake appetizer and the lobster salad from the specials. (Both were fantastic) my husband ordered the lamb chops, and I wasn't sure what to get, so Matty suggested a really wonderful chicken and sausage meal. Everything was exceptional. We will definitely dine here again.

One of my favorite Italian restaurants in Richmond. I've never had a bad meal. The atmosphere is fun though can sometimes be a bit crowded. It's a little calmer in the outdoor section. The pasta dishes are my favorites. I've also had really good lamb. Ordering is very difficult as there are too many delicious items. I don't recommend the dessert options, though I am usually too full to even consider them.

Fantastic atmosphere! Had a milestone birthday celebration there with 14 folks and it was flawless ! Shannon, our server, was a rock star.. responsive, and had perfect timing for our needs. La cena e stata eccellente !!! Thanks for a memorable occasion and we will be back soon! 😊

Came here on a whim for a “day-after” Valentines dinner. The atmosphere immediately got my attention. The music, the feeling, and the friendly face all were a defining factor in my experience here. The food was amazing, and the service was stellar. I will definitely be coming back. Thank you guys!

This Italian restaurant offers an unforgettable dining experience. The warm hospitality and elegant ambiance of authentic Italian cuisine instantly blew me and my family away. The staff's impeccable service and genuine smiles make you feel like family. We started off with the calamari and it tasted amazing. It was perfectly fried and accompanied a great sauce. I personally had the salmon for the main entree and all I can say is that I made sure to finish my plate. It was so good! My family and I ended off the night with their famous tiramisu. Ultimately, a wonderful evening filled with great tasting foods and flawless service. 100% recommend!

We went last night with a good friend that had recommended this restaurant. It was a beautiful evening . Amy the bartender was lovely and welcoming. The food, Tortellini with Pork, Chicken Piccatta, and Pasta with meatballs were all delicious!! The restaurant is deceiving and looks small outside but it quite large with a nice outdoor dining area. We are looking for a reason to go back , hahah

This was our first visit there. It now our new favorite Italian spot. My gazpacho was tasty and they did not skimp on the shrimp. My veal parmigiana was the way I like it, saucy and cheesy…delicious! My husband raved about his meal penne with some Gorgonzola cream sauce. I thought the Gorgonzola would overpower the dish but it was just enough of that Gorgonzola punch. The house bread was delicious. Warm and soft with crispy crust. It was hard to refrain from filling up on bread. I like that they had mocktails. We did not order dessert as we had birthday cake at home. Overall my husband enjoyed his birthday dinner and we are looking forward to going back. Our server was great!

We were here for team dinner. We ordered pear stuffed ravioli, pesto pasta and Mediterranean pizza for main course and zucchini fries, roasted aubergine for appetizer. Almost all of us loved their unique take on pear stuffed ravioli. The vibe was great and the staff was kind enough to click a picture of all of us at the end and arranging table for 10. Their Sicilian mule was also nice. Will revisit with other friends and family and introduce them to this wonderful place.

Azurro is a beautiful restaurant in a cute strip mall. The staff were incredibly friendly. I ordered the farfalle in cream sauce, and while it had a nice flavor, I found it a bit soupy and the sauce a bit watery. The tiramisu dessert was good. I’ve had better, but I’ve had a lot worse, too. On the other hand, my wife and I brought a pizza home for my son, and he said it was some of the best pizza he had ever eaten. Two glasses of wine, three entres, and a dessert ran us about $130 before tip, which was a little on the expensive side. Still, it was an overall pleasant experience, and I’d be happy to go back. I would probably just opt for the pizza over the pasta, though.

The food was really good. The service was also very good. The portions are on the large size and a little pricey but well worth it. It took my years to find this place so not sure if it's well known.

Quaint and cozy spot for upscale Italian. Service was nice, but not overdone. The Mozarella Caprese salad was not traditional as I hoped, and had too much Italian seasoning. However, our entrees were delectable and I would highly recommend the Bucatini Carbonara. Great option for traditional Italian in the area.

Nice place, friendly staff, prices are a little bit high but still ok. Nice set up and location. Food was ok (not the greatest but ok. We had to wait just a little bit longer than usual for our food. But, we would/could be back!

Better than your usual Italian restaurant near the University of Richmond. Outdoor seating is nice, though inside can be noisy. A well-stocked wine cellar with knowledgeable staff.

Firstbtime here and the food was delicious. The only reason I didn't rate 5 stars was due to the fact that we arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and the front door was open. We went inside and realized the restaurant didn't open until 5. Our reservation was for 5. It was a little chilly outside so we were standing in the foyer. A female who i found out later was the bartender came out to inform us that you didn't open until 5 and we couldn't wait in the foyer. She was rude and unprofessional. We came real close to getting back in our car and going elsewhere. I'm glad we stayed because the food was delicious.

Nice, friendly, and helpful staff, music to fit the cuisine, and overall a bit above average food. Not impressive or a 'wow' or a gotta go there location, but still an enjoyable experience. Some balsamic and olive oil with the tasty bread would have been a nice start, just pats of butter instead. Entrees and apps were good but pretty average. 3.5 would be my rating if an option.

The food was of high quality and the portion sizes were great. The bread with the meal was very good and oven toasted. The calamari was very tasty and a large portion size. Have eaten here before and the pasta meals are always delicious but have way to much liquid in bottom of the bowls.

Has an old world Italian feel. Definitely a niche style restaurant, which caters to a specific demographic. Came for my birthday dinner with my family last year, and we were well taken care of but felt slightly out of place. Nevertheless the food was good, everyone enjoyed their meal and we enjoyed our time together

Our food was fabulous. Our bartender/server was wonderful. The heat was unbearable. I cannot imagine coming back until the outside temp begins to average 76°or less.Fix the AC now. A pizza oven is great to have but not if it affects the restaurant’s atmosphere.

A large selection of average Italian food. The bread was disappointing. We had the calamari, which is fried, was not good, vodka pasta was ok, and the veal Parmesan was nothing special. The tiramisu was good. Somewhat over priced especially for the quality. The best aspect of our visit was the ambiance. Service was ok, plenty of staff. Our waitress was on the snobby side and a bit dismissive, but everyone else was delightful. Probably will not return, and would not recommend.

The restaurant looks amazing, it has a very cool vibe about it. Our server was amazing, in fact all the people who worked there were friendly and helpful. The food however was under whelming at best.. The 3 stars I gave it were all for the Staff. The complementary bread was great, fresh and tasty but that’s where it ended, the calamari starter was rubbery and bland, the mozzarella caprese was lazy at best. The shrimp risotto had more onion than rice, shrimp was very good though. The veal parm was the worst dish of the night. It was over cooked and drowned in bowls of over sweet marinara sauce, so much sauce that I could barely find the veal. After all the good reviews I read I was left with a bad taste. I would not return.

Nice restaurant atmosphere and good Italian options. Unfortunately the service was weak. Neither the hostess nor the servers were very friendly and we had to keep asking for service (to order, to clear appetizer plates away, etc.,). Felt as if most are students from the University next door and do not have the motivation to offer customer service excellence. Its a shame.

Sorry Azzuro, but our experience last Saturday was less than fabulous. Waiter was lukewarm and appeared annoyed that he was working. We received our drinks and dishes promptly. The food was good enough, but certainly not great, and quite salty. The atmosphere at this restaurant is wonderful, however, wish that the service and the food could match that.

Heard so much hype about this place that I thought it’d be a nice spot to take my parents for their 55th anniversary. I noted the anniversary on the reservation. Upon check in, I told the hostess. I thought maybe we could do something celebratory but the staff did nothing to mark it which was disappointing. Food was disappointing as well, but I heard the pizza is what I should have chosen. Attractive environment but very loud. Waitress did well.

So-so service and quality, which was surprising. We've been there several times and it was very good. This was not so good. The front desk left our guests at the bar for 30 minutes until they realized what was wrong. Menus were left with us for another half-hour until our order was taken. The risotto special was not very good and seemed thrown together rather than truly prepared. The pizza was ok. The scampi was acceptable. The veal picata was all right. Overall, it was a passable meal. $110 before including drinks, then tax and tip, coming to $205 total. For that money, I'm not impressed.

Azzurro is a solid Italian restaurant. The atmosphere is pleasant (both inside and on the patio). The wait staff is well trained and polite. The food is okay. I believe it is over priced for the basic quality. I feel like i could make the same dish at home and it would taste similar. It’s a good location/convenient… but pricy for the quality of the food.

The food was so bland and completely uninspired. There was no flavor - the angel hair pasta was completely flavorless and lacked any seasonings. Presentation was average at best. The service was excellent and it’s still pretty inside but not worth the visit.

Food:especially bar menu has gotten grossly over priced here making some old favorites frankly just unappealing. Service: if you want to be hovered over, rushed and have three waiters ask to wrap up your food w/in 15 minutes of it being placed on the table. This is your place. Do not pause to chew they will cheerfully appear! Atmosphere: Outdoor patio needs excessively more noise buffer from constant traffic noise. Combination: so NOT relaxing, crossing the line of annoying!

Went here with my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day. Mid food. Server was cold and exchanged maybe 5 words total with us the one hour we decided to spend there. Same server was complimenting and making conversation with the couple sat next to us, same age… Perhaps a different set of characteristics from us. Not saying anything too out there. Bad service. Petty mention, every couple around us were given new white, branded bags (for each individual person) for their to-go containers. We were given a used brown bag to hold both of our containers. Thanks!

Our teen daughter had gone for a friend's birthday and loved it so she requested that we go there for her birthday this past summer. We took her and a couple of her friends. Our server was cold, unfriendly, and generally acted like our presence annoyed her. At one point, my daughter went to the restroom, and her friends informed the server that it was my daughter's birthday and asked if the restaurant could do something (sing or put a candle in the dessert--something). She not only said no, but said it in such a rude and dismissive way to these sweet girls that it broke my heart. And it was a bit odd since my daughter reported that the restaurant had sung and made a big deal for her friend's birthday there a couple months prior. Anyway, the food was also mid and way overpriced. I'm pretty surprised to read other reviews raving about the food. It was really not memorable or notable whatsoever. The acoustics are also not great and it was hard to hear each other at the table on a busy night. It was overall a very disappointing and unpleasant experience (and way more expensive than it was worth), and I would never go back.

the worst Italian i’ve ever had. how did they mess up so bad. it was dry. it was undercooked. and the other one was overcooked and was just so disgusting and gave me a stomachache. two pastas for 80 dollars. absolutely disgusting.

I have to say, this was the worst meal I’ve had in a long time. Our server was very strange. I asked for one glass of wine since I did not want to share a bottle with the group, but she ignored me and poured that bottle in my glass. She also was very aloof, almost like she was drunk. The food runner was extremely rude. He slammed the food down on the table as he dropped it and was noticeably annoyed when our group was figuring out who had what. For those prices, I would expect them to know who ordered what at a 10 person table. Also, the food was HORRENDOUS. The calamari was extremely chewy and had no seasoning. I honestly have had better calamari from the freezer section at Lidl. I’m pretty sure they microwaved it, it wasn’t even crunchy. For my food, it was extremely under seasoned. Actually, i don’t think there was any seasoning. I drowned it in Parmesan just to have flavor. In addition to having no flavor, the chicken was SO DRY. My dish had cold mozzarella balls plopped on top, like it was right out of the fridge. This meal would cost $5 and but at this “elevated dining restaurant” was $25!!! The only thing that is elevated there are the prices. I will not even eat the leftovers, it was THAT horrible. It takes a lot for me to hate a dining experience so much that I need to write a review about it. I don’t know if the chef was having an “off” day, but I’m sad my money went to this “fine dining” nightmare.

Service has gone downhill lately. The wait staff has changed and overall quality is not as good. We waited a very long time for a burnt pizza. Our server, was inattentive and slow. It shouldn’t take over 2 hours to have a meal at dinner. Very disappointed in one of my favorite Richmond restaurants.

Very okay, not a fan of the hostess the night we went. Cant reserve party of 8, made two 4 person reservations. My family member was not allowed to sit until we arrived since we were running 10 min late. Most restaurant honor reservations within 15 minutes, they gave up one of our tables and ended up seating us separate(literally a joke). Again, my uncle had arrived early and told them we were on the way and would arrive shortly. Seemed like the hostess was just being spiteful. Insult to injury was that they seated non reserved seats to people when they could’ve pushed a few tables together and seated all 8 of us together. Even worse, we wanted to celebrate my aunt’s birthday together and couldn’t. All in all, huge disappointment. Food was okay at best. TLDR: Terrible service with a huge blanket of insincere good service. Fake and bland. I typically only write good reviews but this place rubbed me the wrong way. Not coming back.

RACIST & RUDE! I loved Azzurro’s until today and would go all the time. I would always get the pasta with the pear in it. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and when we walked in, the hostess didn’t even speak to us. No smile, no type of wave, no greeting. She looked at us with a disgusted look until another waitress came and sat us. It was a super cold demeanor and not welcoming. Server was good and fixed our wobbly table and was one of the only good experiences at this restaurant. I will never spend time or money at this establishment again.
