First time at Island Lake Diner and was super impressed. My wife and I ate the chicken taco stuffed with penne alla vodka OMG delicious doesn’t tell the story. Picture chicken cutlet in the shape of a taco stuffed with penne alla vodka. Cutlets were huge. We shared the dish along with a Caesar salad and tartufo (what diner has tartufo). Kudos to Christina my waitress and to Kristos the night manager. Service was great, plenty of parking. Super friendly and the menu was extensive. Highly recommend and we will be returning customers.

My parents and I came here for a late brunch after we dropped off our tax documents at a local accountant. We were met with an experience that was wholeheartedly welcoming and delicious. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The breakfast portions were quite large and well worth their value. I didn't even know my breakfast came with three pieces of french toast! The pancakes were delicious in particular: large, fluffy, and moist, with generous syrup and butter on the side!

Ok, this has to be the BEST diner in all of Long Island. I had the Italian Happy Meal- a beautiful chicken cutlet Parmesan w/vodka sauce on the best hero bread I’ve had in years. Chicken cooked perfectly, sauce outstanding, cheesy goodness and the fries - perfectly prepared with a side of vodka sauce for dipping. Wife ordered a Texas burger- also phenomenal. Having just had the best cheddar bacon potato skins perfectly made (sorry TGIF their’s were significantly better) Food: 10/10. Our server was funny and attentive and spot on with overall excellent customer service. Along with the pleasant staff at the front of house- 10/10 also. The atmosphere was lively but not overwhelming, great music, football games on the background tvs, free WiFi (I didn’t need because I’m paying attention to my wife, my dinner, and everything else.) 10/10 ambiance. I cannot wait to return to try other menu items and breakfast. This is officially my go-to diner, and I’m confident saying that on this visit alone. Phenomenal all around.

Sharing what a wonderful experience we had at your restaurant for Valentine’s Day. Despite deciding to go out on such a busy night, the wait was well worth it. The food was excellent and the portions were very generous. I especially want to commend our waitress jass for her exceptional service. Even though the restaurant was busy and the food took a bit longer to arrive, she kept us updated and checked on us frequently. She was very thoughtful and brought us bread and a delicious pasta salad to enjoy while we waited. While we were too full for dessert, she brought our check with chocolate kisses, which was a lovely touch for Valentine’s Day. Please let her know how much we appreciated her hospitality.

It's a diner which sells a lot of food. Well the choice we made was spot on. We did the pasta tacos 10 out of 10. The 3 tables near us all you can hear was oh my god this is delicious try this. So we will be going back. Oh and to top it off we went on a Saturday night around 6ish and it was packed and people were eating and leaving with very minimal wait. Good job.

I recently tried the chicken cutlet tacos with fettuccine Alfredo here, and it was a surprisingly delicious combination. The chicken cutlet tacos were crispy and flavorful, while the creamy fettuccine Alfredo on top paired perfectly. The portion was generous enough to cover both lunch and dinner, which made the price feel very reasonable for what you get. The atmosphere inside the diner was calm and relaxing, which made it easy to enjoy the meal. Service was generally quick, which I appreciated, but I did have a slightly awkward moment when a server came by to clear dishes. I asked for the check, and they just mumbled something under their breath and walked past, which felt a bit off-putting. Thankfully, my original server was attentive and got me settled without any issue.

Wonderful lunch after service this morning. My wife both had the same meals- gyro platter with soup, salad, and coleslaw. After finding out about this diner on social media I finally made the trip out and it was definitely worth every mile! I think this may be my new favorite diner of all time the huge menu was great and the food was absolutely outstanding! Had an amazing matza ball soup along with one of the best beef goulash I’ve ever had. The breakfast eggs were cooked perfectly homefries were perfect as well as the bacon and they had chicken gyro! Usually diners have solvoki but the gyro was amazing and their taziki was on point! I will definitely be making the drive out here again to try more menu items especially the chicken cutlet tacos!

While this place is known for its for chicken cutlet tacos I stumbled in here too early for that so I decided to go with some breakfast and having seen my favorite option of Chicken and Waffles I couldn’t resist ordering them. Typically I’m skeptical because places will offer “chicken and waffles” and it’ll be a dry waffle with frozen chicken strips served with generic syrup. But this place was not that! The waffle was light and fluffy and it was served with 4 generous pieces of house seasoned fried chicken. My only suggestion would be to use boneless breast or thighs with this and to finish the cooking of the chicken in the oven as some parts of the chicken were overcooked. This still is the best chicken and waffles I’ve been able to find on Long Island so far. My girlfriend ordered the breakfast pancake tacos which for the price I believe should come with at least some more eggs or bacon but she still enjoyed them. Service was great and our servers were very attentive and checked by often, they did a great job. Will come back again to try the more popular items on the menu

What can I say about this incredible find? EVERYTHING! This is no ordinary diner by any means - don't walk... RUN here! Right off the bat, the staff is friendly, smiling, and attentive. The menu is massive, so you indecisive people should get a head start before you go! Some appetizer hints - go with the Jack Daniel's sliders... beyond delish burgers with a tasty bite. Quality short rib meat blend, and yummy frazzled onions, Everything on the combo platter is home made- nothing frozen. Wings, fried, mozzarella sticks, Mac & cheese bites and chicken fingers. Almost all the sauces are made in-house too. You can literally taste the difference in the chicken fingers - not frozen and made fresh! The marinara is tasty and the honey mustard is BOSS.. Wings are crispy, moist and flavorful, the shining star here is their social media menu which is full of incredible finds that'll get your tastebuds popping! The chicken tacos with an array of different pastas stuffed into the cutlet style shells are insanely filling and flavorful - very recommended! The taco bowls and bread bowls (all homemade) are stuffed with goodness and well worth the money! Save room (it's hard) for dessert and try their crazy milkshakes, giant ice cream cookie, or pies! All in all, this is a HUGE winner and should be celebrated! Enjoy!

Very nice and clean diner. I had the prime rib, which was cooked to perfection. The challah bread was so hot and delicious I couldn’t stop myself from filling up on it. For about $28 the prime rib (which was HUGE) came with a potato, salad or soup, AND desert. You aren’t going to find that quality and amount of food for that price anywhere else. The waitress Christine was so sweet. They also have a HUGE menu, so you will find anything you are in the mood for here. The rice pudding, bread pudding, and carrot cake are simply divine.

Island Lake Diner was an awesome find. We started with two milkshakes — the Oreo was rich and chocolatey, and the vanilla with a sprinkled cookie was perfectly sweet. The Buffalo Mac & Cheese was creamy and tangy, and the Penne alla Vodka in a crispy bread bowl topped with chicken cutlets was a standout. The Chicken Tacos were super creative — crispy chicken cutlets as taco shells filled with mac & cheese and bacon. The Steak & Egg Skillet was hearty and flavorful with cheesy potatoes and mushrooms. We finished with a crispy waffle topped with cheesecake, berries, whipped cream, and syrup — easily one of the best desserts I’ve had. Definitely a must-visit if you’re near Ronkonkoma!

I haven't been to a Diner in a while and this place didn't disappoint. The food was good as I had the chorizo as skillet and it was quite good. It was very busy when we arrive and the service was a little slow but understandable with how busy it was.

I’ve been going to Island Lake Diner for years, and for a long time it was a reliable, go-to spot in Ronkonkoma — the kind of classic Long Island diner where you could count on large portions, a broad menu, and quick service. Over the years, I’ve tried everything from daily specials to burgers, wraps, and salads, so I’ve gotten a pretty comprehensive feel for what they offer. In my most recent visits, including a dinner a few weeks ago, the overall food quality feels like it has slipped. Nothing dramatic, but enough inconsistency to make me take notice. Some dishes still come out solid, while others feel like they’re made with lower-quality ingredients or simply aren’t prepared with the same attention they used to have. It’s hard to pinpoint whether it’s the kitchen rotating staff, ingredient sourcing, or something else, but the variance is noticeable. One thing that has stayed consistent is the portion size — they are still generous, often to the point where one meal can easily be two. However, the pricing has definitely crept up. Ordering a basic salad through DoorDash pushing close to $30 feels excessive, especially considering this is a traditional diner, not a specialty restaurant. Between the rising prices and the inconsistent meals, I’ve found myself visiting less frequently than I used to. The overall experience is still very much what you’d expect from a Long Island diner: a Greek-themed menu, familiar comfort-food staples, and that classic diner vibe. It’s not bad by any means — it just no longer stands out, and it no longer feels like a dependable “sure thing” the way it once did. Island Lake Diner is still perfectly serviceable for a casual meal, especially if you're local and want a large portion at a standard diner atmosphere. But compared to where it was a few years ago, both the food quality and value have slipped enough that it’s no longer a top choice for me.

I recently discovered this diner and I've been every day for the last three days, it's so good! Excellent food and exceptional service, love the spinach pie, affordable breakfast options and they have my new favorite salad. The consistency is however lacking, which is a shame because some of the food is decent quality, but it's hit or miss.

After traveling all day I ordered a large pick up order which consisted of nachos, boneless wings, Greek gyro platter and chicken tenders. The nachos were inedible. The chips were stale and it was disgusting. The teenagers who normally eat anything wouldn’t even touch it. The Greek platter was missing the salad, which upon calling the diner was reluctantly added to order. The person on phone was arguing saying it didn’t come with salad but my receipt clearly showed it did. I’ve eaten at this location many times and have never experienced this. I did try to reach out to manager and she said she would get back to me and never did. I’m sad because this place has been our go to for after long days of travel and just wanting something quick and easy. Will we return, probably not for lack of response taken. Haven’t been back to this diner in well over a year. I was a huge fan of Centereach diner which after Covid shut down. Purchased chicken salad on a grilled pita and home fries. yes I agree with other reviews that said big portions. BUT. What good are bigger portions if the food isn’t good ? My Tati g is all about the taste of food. Dining out is twice the amount of money these days. My order was Novice in skills. Shouldn’t I be disappointed ?

Had to request another booth as the one next to the kitchen, the wall was covered in fruit flies. Nasty hostess said "sit wherever you want" when we pointed it out.to her.No apology. Regret staying bc pancakes & bacon tasted weird like something was off. Never again will we eat here.

Got takeout and it was pretty bad. Ordered the "Apple Pie Surprise" and sure was surprised by the fact that the pie crust tasted like old garlic. Cheese fries were supposed to be made with real cheese and I put in the instructions "NO FAKE CHEESE". The fries were slathered in fake cheese. I absolutely abhor that stuff and couldn't eat a single bite of the fries. For $40 with tax and tip I expected better quality.

Im still nauseous just thinking how bad this meal was coleslaw and pickles were pretty good and thats where it ends... the french onion soup was just ok very bland nothing memorable, the cheesesteak fries were absolutely horrendous they actually serve plastic waxed cheese, think kraft and then 10 times worse for 16.99 that embarrassing. The blt i added cheese to was even worse since that waxed cheese was un melted and the 1/4 wedge of iceberg lettuce on it so so un appealing... just shred it who eats that my daughters grill cheese was just a block of congealed 1/2 melted waxed cheese... please do not waist your time. Im sure any fast food breakfast is 1000 times better and a 1/4 of the price

Purchased two cheese danish for breakfast this morning, and not only was the pastry old and stale, it had mold at the bottom of the pastries. Totally unacceptable and not to mention disgusting. Management please check your products before putting them out for customers to consume!!!!

Take out is horrible. 2 weeks in a row ordered the Turkey Reuben Panini, got a corned beef Reuben. The meat was all fat. 3 weeks ago ordered the Chicken and waffles. I get home, see waffles no chicken. Call up, they tell me they ran out of chicken would give me Chicken Tenders. Went to pick up, it was 3 tenders. How do three tenders equal a half a chicken. Never given money back. Done here.

Fruit fly update, a week after Tristaino post: I was seated by the kitchen and Fruit flies crawling the back wall, they were not satisfied with the bread in our basket, we had to keep swatting away from our food. Sent away the complimentary macaroni salad to prevent my family from eating it bc the mayo turned, NO white in the bowl, it was warm even at the bottom of the bowl, the server should not have placed it on the table. Food looked great but mine was conspicuously seasoned with 3 inch hair as if it was part of the presentation. Unfortunately this was not the first time but this was mistakeable & undeniable. This time I complained. So embarrassed after making my husband drive farther to what I called the better diner. Manager did offer to correct the issues but nothing was going to salvage this experience. I did eat my salad and the Manager comped the entire check without request. What happened to this place? New ownership? I think they are well intentioned but just not good at the restaurant business. OK my Husband is Right and I was wrong....

The delivery service was very slow; I waited 15 minutes but still didn't receive my order.

Was so excited to come here and it wasn’t worth the hype online!! Expensive and the food wasn’t good. My sisters got stuff off the social media page and I got a cheese quesadilla-was so so soggy 🤢 I couldn’t even eat it. Was disappointing.

The restaurant was not hygienic at all. The tall guy working at the front desk used the bathroom and didn’t wash his hands. I couldn’t believe what I saw. This is definitely a place to avoid.

I have gone to this diner many times. It’s nothing special, but it was close to home so my family and I would visit it a few times a month. The service has gone downhill quite a bit recently. We were there this morning and I ordered a waffle with eggs. The waitress told me it comes with bacon, sausage, or ham. I said I’d take bacon. I didn’t want it, but if it came with it I’d give it to one of the people I was with. I got the bill and as you can see they charged me for bacon that “comes with it.” I brought it up to the person at the register and they went to get the waitress. I’m not cheap, but paying almost $6 for bacon I didn’t want felt wrong. The waitress flat out lied and said I asked for it. I said I didn’t and I didn’t eat it (it was on the dirty plates on my table). She held her ground and I had to pay for something I didn’t want. The manager didn’t offer to take it off for a frequent customer, just told me I had to pay. We said we wouldn’t be going back and they were okay with that. I guess they make enough $ not to care about our business. I normally don’t review places, but I thought people should know to check their bills and know walking in they won’t care about your business either.

went Saturday night on 1/10/26 it was terrible, waited 30 minutes for our food, my wife had a wrap food was terrible wanted to have coffee but that never happened due to poor service, wont go back there again.

We were so excited to go here. We went at 4PM on a Saturday and they ran out of the chicken tacos. I ordered the shrimp which was okay but nothing like their videos on Instagram. I ordered Mac and cheese for both kids but after waiting almost an hour they came out snd said they didn’t have any more. My daughter had pasta with butter and she told me she didn’t like the “soup” the pasta had soooo much butter in it. There was also hair in it. My dad had chicken salad or so he thought but it was sour and tasted like tuna. Not to mention no one came over to check on us and they were pretty dismissive. I’m sad I had such high hopes

When we walked in we were seated immediately. The waitress didn’t come over for about 10 mins, she took our drink and food order and we didn’t see her again for about another 20 mins when she was walking past we asked if we could please have our pickle and Cole slaw (typically diners automatically bring that out..or so we thought) she got it. It was pretty good. I ordered a chicken gyro the chicken was cold and very dry. Almost like it was reheated in a microwave. My wife got the Mac and cheese bowl we shared that bc the waitress didn’t come by for almost another 10 mins she offered to make another but everything was already taking so long so we asked for it to be taken off the bill. We saw this diner on tick tok and decided to give it a shot. Wouldn’t recommend.

We have been here many times before, all of which would’ve resulted in five star ratings. Tonight we had a terrible experience and were left with no resolve. We had a waitress whom we have had before. She is spot on, engaging and considerate. Every time we go in with our kids, she is phenomenal. We put in our children’s order to come out first, along with our soup and salad. All of these things came out in a timely fashion. Our kids fully finished their food (which is an achievement) and my husband and I still did not have our food. Our waitress came over on three separate occasions to say the food would be right out. We heard her go in the back and ask where our food was and what was taking so long. At a certain point, she began to avoid our table. My husband and I decided that we would just take the food to go because the kids were getting antsy. When all is said and done, we are working on 90 minutes of being here already, no food. Our food comes out and my husband asks her if she can just wrap it, kids are ready to go. She asks if we’d even like to try it, to which we replied, “no thank you” and she said ok I’ll get this wrapped and tell my manager. At no point were we looking to have food comped. All we were looking for was an acknowledgement from management - some kind of apology. My husband watched her speak to her managers and tell them how long we waited. She said “it doesn’t take 45 mins to make a pork chop!” and she continued further. My husband took the kids out to the car while I got the check. She did not even want to hand it to me, she apologized again. I opened the check and there were no comps. Again, fine, that’s not what we were looking for. But at this point we watched her tell management about the situation and no one said anything to us. I took the check up front and was not even greeted. My card was run and I got, “here good night.” I was furious. Walked to the car and told my husband who absolutely lost his mind. He went inside and said how unprofessional all of this was. He was told that, “she never told us”, which we knew to be a lie as we watched her talk to them about it! My husband made it clear that it was not in any way our waitresses fault, that she provided nothing but excellent service, that this falls on management. As he left they pulled the waitress in the back, so I can only imagine what happened. Sick to my stomach that this even happened. We have been so many times and this is definitely our last because of how we were not even a priority. So many different ways this could’ve been handled and they failed on so many different levels.
