Got food to go. Everything was great, the Chicago cheese steak sandwich (both on bread and on lettuce) is my go-to. I also liked the Chicago dog -- the peppers they put on are like a hotter version of banana peppers, very yummy. The cannolis are the perfect size, I get them every time.
Excellent Chicago style hotdog & Italian beef. A little taste of home from the Chicago area.
WiseGuys has the absolute best Italian Beef sandwich is the Austin area. The portions are huge and the staff are always so friendly. I would highly recommend WiseGuys to anyone looking for excellent Chicago style food. So good!!!
Wiseguys is my go to when I need a Chicago meal. Hands down BEST Italian beef in Austin. It ha a Tasty Sub and Als Beef feel to it. Also they surprised me and made an Italian beef pizza, tavern style. The only thing this place is missing is Old Style 🍺
looking for a weekend lunch spot came across this place. The mushroom swiss burger was good juicy had the fries with it. We also tried the Chicago dog first time that was pretty good I recommend giving it a try. We also tried the cheesesteak with jalapeño and onion rings. Onion rings had a slight sweetness but we liked them either way. The cheese steak was also juicy no complaints there. I would recommend this place. We came on a Saturday 3pm so service was prompt but the dinner Crowd did starts trickling in.
I can't say enough good about wise guys. I love the Bonnie and Clyde sandwich, my wife is a big fan of the Italian Beef and they never let us down when we go there. It's always a stellar meal, served quickly and in a friendly fashion by really nice folks. I feel like it's a good value for what you pay as well, because you do get a lot of really good food. Check them out and prepare to be wowed.
WiseGuys brings a little slice of Chicago to Texas. Their Italian beef sandwiches and Chicago dogs are the real deal — juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The portions are hearty, and the staff treat you like family. It’s a no-frills spot that focuses on quality and flavor, and it absolutely delivers.
I have no idea how I missed experiencing Wise Guys before this week. Their food is excellent and authentic. Maybe some Monsters of the Midway fans will differ, but i am telling you - their sandwiches are legit! Wiseguys is a micro-chain started in 2009 by Jerry Dugger and Bill Nychay. Their first store in Harker Heights, an hour north of Round Rock, was designed to bring the tastes of Chicago to Central Texas through a 1920s mobster decor and theme. The Round Rock location opened in 2018. The menu has five broad categories including Cheesesteaks, Burgers, Sandwiches & More, Dogs and Healthier Options. The do have a kids menu too. My consigliere and I tried two choices - The Bonnie & Clyde Cheesesteak and the Italian Beef Sandwich. The Bonnie & Clyde has an Italian sausage on the bottom of the roll with a full Chicago Cheese Steak on top. They use a very generous amount of grilled sirloin piled high with peppers, onions mushrooms and melted white American cheese. It is a delicious beast of a handheld. We have been on a roll lately, pun intended, tasting great cheesesteaks across the region including R&Bs, Mum Foods, Hoodies, Grata's and Litttle Deli. RIP 1776 and Way South Philly. Delaware Sub is up tp try next. Wiseguys' version definitely should be in the conversation for Best of Austin (Overall Cheesesteak, but not a true Philly). The Italian Beef is technically a sandwich. However, I chose the wet version of it, where their homemade au jus sauce is poured over top. It is served in a little foil shell. This is key, because under a huge handful of seasoned roast beef, and sweet peppers there is a bun. The foil on the bottom allowed the au jus to soak into the bread and create soft mouth-watering bites best accessed with a knife and fork. Did I mention I added fresh gardinia and melted cheese on top? I was told by the manager if you can only get one sandwich, get the Italian Beef. Now you can see why. I would be remiss if I did not tell you about their hot dogs. I was personally in Chicago two weeks ago for my daughter's wedding and stopped by Portillo's & Barnelli's for an authentic Chicago-style dog. It is considered one of the top places to get these treats. I know, it's very touristy, but my point is, it set the standard for what a Chicago-style hot dog should be. Wiseguys buys their meats from the Windy City. All the toppings are done the same way as my frank was dressed at P&Bs down to the really green relish, tomatoes, and sport peppers. With no disrespect to Midway Dogs (south of Austin) Mad Dogs (near UT) or T-Loc Sonora (off of Burnett), Wiseguys makes a real case for best hot dogs in the city. Note: My hot dog photo did not turn out, so I borrowed theirs off of Google. Lots of yummy offerings at Wiseguys. Give them a try and let me know if I'm wrong. #MattGoodEats
I had the Bonnie and Clyde. I will go on record and say that it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! Italian sausage topped with cheesesteak?! Forgettaboutit, lol! And even though the onion rings are pre-made and frozen, they're about as good as you'll ever find. Beer selection could be better, but I couldn't complain. I really wish that they had a location in Houston. The drive to Round Rock isn't terrible, but not really convenient, lol!
It’s been a while since I’ve been here probably over a year and a half or so so I thought I’d give it a try and get a late lunch in. About 3 PM. The place is really dead. There’s nobody inside a few people on a laptop and that’s about it. I got the two hotdog combo which is two dogs of your choice. I elected for the chili cheese dog and a plain mustard dog with ketchup, french fries and a Pepsi. I believe it was about $14 with tip. The cashier was very friendly and inviting. I was given a number got my drink and found a seat in the corner with ESPN on and waiting for my food. What about five minutes later and the server brought up my food and looked awesome. The fries were fresh. The first bite of the chili cheese dog.was awesome , that snap that we all love with hotdogs was delicious. I only wish I would’ve got two chili cheese dog versus the other one with mustard, but that was just as good. The hotdog bun was soft and fresh and had poppy seeds on it. No complaints here very filling lunch and for the price well worth it. I will definitely be back to try the dipped beef sandwich which I haven’t had in years as well. Please check them out great place anytime in the day.
The Chicago Italian beef is one of the world’s truly great sandwiches. It is so hard to find a good one outside of the city but Wiseguys doesn’t right and it’s easy to tell the ingredients are all brought to Texas from Chitown! If you haven’t tried this place, I highly recommend! Suck a cool vibe inside.
I’m from Milwaukee, WI and I was craving some Midwest flavor. I was not disappointed! I ordered an Italian sausage sandwich, Chicago’s style hotdog, and steak grilled cheese. Everything was so tasty! The service was really good and the vibe was really chill. I definitely will be going back!
This was my first visit, and I'll definitely be back! The food and atmosphere were both great, and the front counter service was amazing (thank you for your genuine kindness, Rudy). I'm excited to try more things on the menu. If you want something better than just any normal restaurant, definitely check this place out!
Gotta love wise guys! Been a while since I’ve been. They still got it! Ordered an extra wet Italian beef, a slice of pepperoni pizza, and a Hopadillo IPA. The Italian beef good as usual. The pizza for $6.50 was not good at all! It tasted like a very cheap frozen pizza to be honest. I did not finish it. All in all this place still rocks.
Wife and I visit at least once a month. Food is always fresh... seems the serving sizes may have been reduced a little. Understandable food costs are higher for all places. Chicken wrap used to have more chicken in it and should come with tomato slices. Last few times, its been less chicken and just not as filling as it use to be. Cheesesteaks, what I go for, slightly less meat and cheese than say in 2021. Still cooked well, and tasty... just not as good a deal as it was in the past. Fries are always hot and fresh... again portion sizes have been reduced. With all that said, we still keep going back. Because the food is good and its convenient when you've got some shopping to do in the area.
Got this recommendation from Austin Food Adventures on instagram and I’m never disappointed by her recs. Food's pretty good and service were stellar and their meals are decently portioned. We appreciated the person we were ordering with gave us a heads up that the sandwich didn’t come with the fries. Unfortunately the cakes were pretty dry towards the end of the day on Sunday, so get them when they’re fresher or maybe they would need to use a different container for them that’s less vented. The area around the fountain drinks could also use a little better cleaning since it was super sticky around that area. Bathrooms are clean (though they are solo bathrooms) and I like the decorations on the walls. The menu is pretty big, so I’d love to come back and try more of their options!
So far everything I have had at WiseGuys has been excellent. I had the Italian beef the last time so this time I tried the meatball sandwich and the Chicago dog. The Chicago dog is what you would expect. Not a lot you can do to change that. Quality ingredients. The meatball sub was perfect. Four good size meatballs, sauce, a ton of mozzarella on a perfectly toasted bun. A lot of Chicago memorabilia around the restaurant. Good prices and good fountain soda. I like this place a lot. UPDATED Went back for the first time in a while and things have gotten worse. I got the meatball sub and it was not close to its former self. Awful, frozen meatballs. Very similar to Subways. Prices have increased quite a bit in 2 years as well. Adding a photo of the new meatball so others can see.
Ok. I'm a regular and have been eating here for years. I have seen this established gone from great to be just ok now. I understand that everyone is downsizing portion size. But this is getting ridiculous now. My wife & I stopped in for lunch today. I always get the Italian beef & she gets the cheese stake. The portion size of the beef & fries is lackluster at best. Also, I had the bogo advertisement. I remember the owner mentioning on the Facebook page to someone else that doesn't live in the area where its advertised. Just to show them the Facebook page with the Bogo. But was told that I needed to print it out. Ok, I love the food and we are from the Chicago area, but this establishment is getting worse over time.
I just received my order through Door Dash. And was here pretty quick. I was disappointed when I opened my hoagie and there was no cheese. I had requested extra cheese. And the garlic fries were as white as when they aren’t cooked. And in this case they weren’t entirely cooked. I ended up putting them in my toaster oven. I’ve eaten here since they opened and this was the first time I was disappointed.
Edit: Owner is a delusional wise guy. See their response below. Read the rest of my review, but their response alone demonstrates why this place is not worth a second look. —— I’m not sure what happened to this place. It use to be amazing before Covid. Now, it’s like $17 bucks for the cheesesteak combo. I’m like pretty sure the size of the sandwiches have been steadily decreasing and so has the fry portion size. This use to be a spot I’d come every weekend until I was accused by one of the employees of trying to steal fries. That happened around March of 2025. I swore the place off after this, but recently gave it another shot (Dec 2025) even after that incident. I was the only party there; it was a ghost town and after I received my food, I knew exactly why.
Food is good. However, Big Tony's Cheesesteak in Salado, TX gives you a better cheesesteak in every way. This establishment gives you a 8 inch bun that's half full and charges $7 extra for a SMALL fry and a SMALL drink. To say the least, about this, I feel SCAMMED. $37 to feed 2 people and you get charged $7 for not even a medium size fry you'd get from Burger King. The tables are sticky on top and very sticky under the table cloth. They don't clean under them. Gross! Second cheesesteak in the red paper is Big Tony's. Both sandwiches are the SAME price. Given the owners response. I have now changed my review to reflect his poor response and scummy scamming way. 5ozs of bs and half empty sandwich. $10 and one sandwich came from a food truck. The other came from Chicago's half empty cheesesteaks! Go for the red paper folks! Get more for the same price.
