Food was excellent, I had the Mater Challaw for main and Firnee for desert. Both were incredible, you can tell the food is a homemade recipe and was prepared with love and attention to detail. Lamb fell apart and was perfectly cooked. Easily joined the clean plate club. Service was perfect, as a European I love that all the servers are keen to make sure you are well looked after rather than the traditional American style of you can only speak to the server assigned to you. All staff are warm, knowledgeable on the dishes and your glass is never left empty. Perfect. The atmosphere was great, seemingly authentic music playing in the background, not too loud and sets the scene nicely. Feels like a proper family restaurant with care and love poured into everything they do. Many thanks to Michelle and the team and looking forward to returning in the future.
The restaurant is located at n a strip mall and doesn’t look like much from the outside; however the interior is nice and roomy and the food is fantastic. The slow cooked lamb was excellent and even my wife who doesn’t like lamb enjoyed it. Also got the creamy chicken which was good. The baklava paired with the vanilla ice cream with rose topping was great. This was an all around good meal with good service as well. This will be a go to restaurant for the family in the future. There was a discount offered for paying in cash so may want to check with the wait staff about that.
Kabul pleasantly surprised me, nice interior, the restaurant itself is pretty cozy. Waiters very friendly and attentive. Temperature inside is neither cold or hot. The dish “Karayee” that I order exceeded my expectations! I would recommend this restaurant to people.
Traditional Afghan fare with some family twists like the eggplant or potato pakura w yogurt and lamb sauce toppings, soooo good. The lamb, chicken and koobideh kebabs are all excellent and their brown rice is fragrant and flavorful. The family that runs it are very sweet and nice and all their staff are attentive and friendly. Highly recommend giving this restaurant a try.
Finally visited this place after hearing so much about it and it exceeded my expectations! First of all, plenty of parking spaces. Second of all, very nice interior design choices, reflect the cuisine very well in my opinion. Thirdly, the service and the food were both outstanding! The menu looked so nice I could not choose for a while but did decide on the combination or lamb and salmon kebab. The rice, the bread, the meat, the appetizer were all 10/10. Will be back and highly reccomend!
We come here regularly and have family dinners for the last 15 years. Our sons now have their own families and their kids love Kabul’s food so much! It’s not easy to find a quality place that pleases three generations!
This place is wonderful, food is great, portion generous, and service is warm and friendly. It's one of those restaurants we found by accident and discovered it is a gem and would want to go back very soon. They enjoy serving you and bring you delicious food, and are proud of their place.
Great restaurant for families. I’ve been coming for 20+ years and it’s always great! Food is consistent, tasty, and reasonably priced. The bread is so yummy as well. My kids love the bread so much and they sent us home with bunch of bread to take home free of charge! Love the hospitality. I’ll keep coming back for years to come!
I was looking for comfort food and this exceeded my expectations! Aushuk lamb steamed dumplings Combo Kabab Beef and Lamb Bureneebadenjan Eggplant Kadu Pumpkin Sweet and Creamy Tea When I looked at the menu I saw the reoccurring lamb and yogurt sauce and felt slightly overwhelmed. By the time we finished our appetizer I knew it wasn’t enough. Hands down the best Lamb Kabab flavored by the wood and more tender than a filet. Eggplant is a must and the pumpkin was a balance of slight sweetness and creamy delicate bliss. Ali was an amazing server letting us know about the sauces and guiding our experience. But it was wonderful to see how friendly everyone was who touched our table. You don’t have to by family style was the way to go. Thank you for your hospitality and inviting ambience.
The experience was incredible!!! We were treated like family and given such incredible food by Michelle, Allie, Victor and the rest of the crew. The decor is wonderful and I had such a good time sharing stories about how my uncles were once able to sit on the shoulder of a Buddha of Bamiyan when they were teenagers. I got the dish with eggplant and lamb and it was phenomenal. But, everything was phenomenal. I can’t wait to come back!
Growing up, the biggest heritage my Afghan grandfather gave me, was food. Afghanistan, located on the silk road between Persia and India, has a delicate and flavourful cuisine, borrowing from both kitchens. Nowhere did i find this delicacy as in Kabul Afghan cuisine. Every dish was as reminiscent of him as it was delicious and came in large generous portions. Honestly i wish I had more space to try some more :) Don't skip the home-made baglava. Its usually too sweet - theirs is just perfect.
We have been coming here for years now. It is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is so delicious and the service is great. We drive from the far east bay (Brentwood) just to eat here at least a few times a year. We have never ordered a meal we didn't like, everything is just so good and flavorful. They have a spicy green chutney we can't get enough of and a newer yogurt sauce that is so good on everything. The family is always so welcoming and friendly. We always look forward to our dinners here.
Delicious flavor profiles where every bite is delicious. Best dish is their Mater Challah, which has a nice sauce that melds well with the rice and the meat is tender. Their Pakawra-E-Badanjen appetizer of eggplant with the sauce was fantastic. Lamb kebobs were delicious and better than the beef kebobs, which felt a little overcooked, but the slow cooked meat in the challah led to some tender food and flavors. Service is fast and attentive and the dining space has plenty of room with fine silverware, glasses, cloth napkins, and tablecloths.
We stumbled in here as we were in the area not expecting too much. It was Saturday evening and packed, but we were still sat immediately and service was quick. The food was fabulous! We had the lamb and beef combo kebab and matter challaw. Both were amazing. The bread was incredible. If we’re ever back in the area, we’ll stop in again!
This is my first experience eating Afghani food, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I got a takeout order, but I guess it was up to me to say that I was going to be eating it by myself and I needed some utensils, because they gave me nothing but my food which was kind of a shock when I got back to my hotel room. 😕 Thankfully, the front desk of the hotel knows this kind of thing happens and they had some spares for me. I wanted to try Quabili Pallaw as I'd read that was the classic Afghani dish. I didn't want lamb, so they helpfully suggested I order it without meat then get an order of Kabab-E-Gaw. It also came with some bread. The portion sizes were quite large, and dishes are definitely meant to be shared. I should have asked if they did half orders, or what they might recommend for a single diner, because sadly I had to throw out quite a bit of food. The food itself was surprisingly lacking in flavor. Again, I had never eaten this kind of food before, so I have nothing to compare it to. But typically I would expect some kind of spice or flavoring to be added, but it was incredibly bland. The stewed beef was very high quality meat, and very tender, but it tasted like what I would get in an Irish stew, which was quite surprising. It should be very flavorful based on how it looked, but it really wasn't. The bread was fresh and warm, but bland. The rice with carrots and raisins was good, but lacking in much flavor. It could be that I simply ordered the wrong thing to try out Afghani food for the first time, and it also could be that this restaurant is amazing for the type of food they serve, but I can't say that I will seek out this kind of food again based on this experience. Still, I'm glad I gave it a try!
We visited this restaurant a couple of weeks ago, and overall it was a good experience. We tried two different types of kebabs, qabli pulao, and a lamb stew. The qabli pulao was really great—flavorful and well-prepared. The lamb stew was also delicious and had a rich taste. Unfortunately, the kebabs were disappointing. The beef kebabs were tasteless and not enjoyable, and the lamb kebab wasn’t any better. They lacked flavor and juiciness, which was a letdown. All in all, I might go back for the qabli pulao and the lamb stew, but I’ll definitely avoid the kebabs next time.
Two of us had dinner here. We were seated immediately. The menu is classic and extensive but that may not be a good thing. Our Bolani was greasy and only cooked on one side side and not great. But it was an example of close but not on point dishes. Service was good. Food came out fast. Just wish the flavors and quality went up a notch.
They missed up our order. We ordered two kabob and rice with extra bread. Our order was missing bread, we asked for well done, they gave us rare. We ended up not eating any of the food. They didn’t offer refunds either want us to drive back another hour to get replacement. We said no thanks. Not professional service.
I went with my wife to this Resturant. She Ordered Salmon. After eating one piece of the salmon, she told to the waitress the fish test with meat. She took the the plate away. Without any explanation. I ordered lamb and beef Kabab, I could not eat the beef was to hard to chew. Also ordered Appetizer mantoo, the dough was very hard, not eatable. The entry came with rice. The rice was testing like plastic. I believe the owner is getting crazy, buying cheap Chinese rice, made with plastic. The entire service were Mexican. our waitress who served us was very rued and impolite. The waitress did not even offer desert. She fully charged us. I paid cash $100, and left to go eat at Shalizar Persian Resturant at Belmont. I highly recommend don’t waist your money and health going to Kabul Afghanistan Cuisine at San Carlis. This was the worst experience we ever had eating at Afghan Resturant. The owner is the daughter of the owner who passed away, and she inherited the Resturant. She does not know how to manage the Resturant. She probably never eat the food from her own Resturant. I gave the negative star. It was waist of my time and money.
