Rangoon Ruby offers flavorful Burmese cuisine with large portions. The tea leaf salad, garlic noodles, and various curries are popular. Some find it slightly pricey, and service can be slow when crowded. A good spot for trying something new.

A branch of the other Burmese restaurant chain that has VERY large portions and good flavors! Recommend the tea lead salad and the Burmese pad thai, but we also tried the minted jalapeno chicken that was a good blend of flavors I never thought matched! We had mild spice for all of them and it wasn't too spicy at all, so if you can handle spice, try medium! The staff are very friendly and attentive, serving cucumber water and the interior is well-decorated and gives an air of sophistication while still being a more casual restaurant.
This was my first time having Burmese and was bit excited. Started with freshly cut coconut with coconut water, it was bit ok not that good. Had Tea leaf salad & loved it, it tasted soo good . Service was very friendly. As this’s our first time here got no idea what to have and the lady who served our table was a great help to us. And then tried a Fish dish called Basil Chili Swai (if I’m not wrong) with a side of flavored coconut rice which was damn good. Ended up with Coconut pudding along with Pineapple ice cream. Over all the experience was amazing. Will definitely come back .......
We got the garlic noodles- excellent. Lemongrass Chicken- excellent. Chicken Crispy- my son said was great. Jasmine rice was done perfectly! Can’t wait to explore more of their menu! Slightly pricey, but the portions & flavor make up for it!
This was such a wonderful place to discover. Tea leaf salad is a must to start with the fermented tea leaves. Fresh Coconut water adds the zing and the beer is great too. All the dishes were perfect in taste, spice and flavor. Shrimps, lambs, porks were all cooked to perfection with gravy. Try the kebat and add the sides of noodles. Parking maybe a challenge. The restaurant is spacious, well lit and airy with outside seating, and the staff is excellent.
Ordered this location for catering to the office and everyone absolutely loved the food. Beef and chicken were tender, walnut shrimp were large sized, garlic noodles was nice as well. Fiery tofu and vegetables (green beans) and garlic eggplant were extremely popular choices. A must have favorite for the office. Catering portions are definitely a little smaller than the claimed headcount, be prepared to order quite a bit extra compared to the claimed headcount.
We wanted to try something new and decided on this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The mango chicken was delicious and the eggplant curry was the best. If you’re feeling adventurous please give it a taste
Flavors, textures and aromas. Beautiful restaurant. Bright and light food, feel good after eating here. Chicken and mango, Tea leaf salad, perfect to share.

Excellent food with some classics and a few surprises. Fast service that I loved. Paid cash and wasn’t expensive at all. Love the place!

Rangoon Ruby in San Carlos is one of those spots where you walk in and immediately know you're in for something different with a warm, stylish decor with a hint of elegance, and the aroma of garlic, spices, and coconut milk floating through the air. It's upscale but not uptight, perfect for date nights, group dinners, or anyone craving authentic Burmese food done right. Must-Try Dishes: * Tea Leaf Salad (Lahpet Thoke) This is the signature dish and it does not disappoint. Fermented tea leaves, crunchy nuts, seeds, tomatoes, garlic, and lime all come together in a tangy, umami-packed bite. Complex and addicting. * Samusa Soup A flavorful lentil-based soup with pieces of samusa (Burmese samosas) swimming inside. Spiced but not too spicy , cozy and comforting. * Pumpkin Pork Stew Tender pork belly in a mild pumpkin curry , rich, slightly sweet, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Definitely a sleeper hit on the menu. * Burmese Style Garlic Noodles Stir-fried noodles with crispy garlic, scallions, and your choice of protein. Simple, but seriously flavorful. A good "gateway dish" if you're new to Burmese cuisine. * Coconut Rice Order it as a side with anything , fluffy, fragrant, and the perfect match for the saucier curries. * Shan Noodles One of the most beloved street foods of Myanmar rice noodles with chicken or pork in a slightly tangy tomato-based sauce. Light but deeply satisfying. Drinks & Atmosphere: They've got a full bar with solid craft cocktails and Burmese beer. The vibe is classy but welcoming ,think white tablecloths with a laid-back neighborhood feel. Service is attentive, helpful, and happy to guide you if you're new to Burmese food. Price Point: It's on the higher side for casual dining , you're looking at ~$18-$28 for entrées. But the portions are fair, the quality is high, and the experience feels special. It's not cheap takeout, but it's worth it. Final Verdict: Rangoon Ruby delivers , bold flavors, beautiful presentation, and dishes that strike a perfect balance between comforting and adventurous. If you've never tried Burmese cuisine, this place makes a fantastic first impression. Just be ready to spend a little , and leave very full.
Went on a sunday, dinner for 2. It was really crowded, but staff were friendly and did their best. We ordered some sake that was pretty decent for like $35 a bottle. We had samosas and the tea leaf salad for appetizers. Both were really great, especially the salad. The fermented tea leaf is a distinct flavor, and paired with crunchy nuts and greens is a good combo. The spicy lamb and pork curry were definitely good but nothing crazy amazing. I also thought the rice was overcooked and clumpy. Overall very good experience, but would probably try different mains next time.
Went here for dinner and at 6, we were the only ones there. We ordered a lot of food - bowls of Jasmine rice, Mango Chicken, Garlic Noodles, Burmese Pad Thai, Yellow Tofu in Red Curry and ended with a Coconut Pudding. Mango Chicken was sweet - expected it to be tangy. The Pad Thai and Red Curry base were the same. The Banana Pudding however was interesting. We ordered it with vanilla ice cream and it was awesome. Will come back for more.
Small restaurant in downtown San Carlos. Ambiance is nice and the wait staff is friendly and attentive. Has online payment option. The food is good, the highlight of the meal was the Burmese Pad Thai and the mango sticky rice. Parking in downtown San Carlos can be tricky at times. Burmese iced tea is not the same as Thai iced tea, more like Indian chai tea.
Went here on a Sunday afternoon. It was my first time eating Burmese. I was not disappointed. I started off with the orange wheat beer and the samosa soup, which was a pleasant surprise for me since I've never eaten samosas like that. We followed up with the chili basil lamb, lamb kebat and brown rice. Both entrees were flavorful and the lamb was succulent. The entrees could've been a bit warmer when they were brought out. For this reason and that our server was a little cold in the beginning, I've removed one-star from the rating. I wish the girl with the tattoos on her forearms and piercings remained our waitress. For dessert, we shared the sooji with coconut ice cream - and wow! That hit the spot (and I don't particularly care for coconut)!
We came here for dinner and ordered chicken kebat and a Rangoon chicken curry, both at a medium level spice, a palata, a side of coconut rice and Burmese-Indian rice as sides and sticky rice with ice cream as a dessert. The Chicken kebash was delicious and complex in flavors. The curry was a rich dish with melt-in-your-mouth chicken. The spicy ness level in general was mild but not hot, so I asked for more spice and they gave us a homemade chili that was really spicy but flavorful. Use carefully! We also ordered coconut rice and Burmese-Indian rice as sides to have a contrast with the chickens. The coconut rice was delicious, rich and sticky and went well with the dishes. The Burmese Indian rice on the other hand was dry tasted as almost as if it was reheated but the flavor was nice and strong. The palata was really really good! The sticky rice with ice cream was delicious and well made. The rice was at a perfect level of sweetness so it wasn’t overly sweet or overpowering the ice cream. The presentation was really nice and it was clear that the chef took their time to make a nice dish. The place was clean and tidy and it was a nice place overall with a simple decoration. I was surprised to see a piece of paper covering the table instead of a tablecloth tho. The food was served quickly and the servers refilled our water constantly! The service in general was just ok. There was one woman, (might be the owner or manager?) that went around asking for orders and how the food was. She was welcoming and warm and that made us feel valued and cared for. The rest of the staff was quite quiet, serious and even looked bored or sad. The prices are good but on the expensive end. The size of portions of the chicken dishes and the rice sides were big and the food was high quality, so it made us feel like we had a good value for the food. However, I do have to say that the palata was around $9-10 which was really too much. In general the food was delicious and I’d recommend this place to explore different flavors and dishes. The food was ok - However, take this with a grain of salt cause I was an omnivore who ended up eating out of the vegetarian menu with no spice out of support for her cancer-battling friend, so the dishes we ordered was all vegetarian friendly with low spice. That being said - DO NOT ORDER THE TURMERIC RICE. My friend ordered that and when I took a bite.....I would say that it was the first time I have ever been fumigated by turmeric, and may it be the last. My friend didn't make it past two bites. The service was ok, but we went there at around 1:30pm on a Saturday so there was only one waitress working. The ambiance was fantastic and everything looks very upscale. Will I come back? Sure, to try other dishes. If I really dislike a person and happen to be stuck with them and we're both ordering at this restaurant...I'll recommend them the turmeric rice (j/k...kinda).
Always like a place where the windows open up to the street, and there are a couple tables in front on the sidewalk you could use with your pup. The decor is simple but nice. The service a bit on the slow side, but nothing to complain about assuming you're not in a hurry. Food is very good and flavorful. But being Burmese don't expect your pad thai to be like in Thailand (here it is a little sweeter), nor your curry like India (not as spicy). We came for lunch midweek, and it is a bit expensive for lunch (because all they serve is off the same menu used for dinner). So your better value may be dinner. Our bill was $60 for two without tip or any alcohol.

Rangoon Ruby is a bit of an anomaly. The interior exudes of something that pushes it to be higher end, but in a "Western" way while the food obviously is Burmese/Thai. Now that's okay... to be a fancy high-end Asian cuisine. Unfortunately, the quality of the food doesn't support it. The chicken comes in like flakes of cardboard. While the paratas were tasty, the lamb dip was simply washed out. The eggplant dish was surprisingly the saving grace. But again, one dish being tasty out of many simply doesn't live up to the caliber of the facade. If it wasn't for the kind waiter, I would've dropped the review to a 2-star. A bit disappointing and a bummer that they couldn't live up to the expected quality.
Ordered several items for takeout, most we're good but the veggie kebat was really awful. Veggie kebat - first the portion... For $19 we got 3 strips of tofu, 10 green bean, 3 wedges if tomatoe, 1/4 carrot, 1/4 onion. Tiniest portion I've ever seen for a ridiculous price. And it had no flavor. The spice was intense, but there wasn't really any depth of flavor, I had to put salt in the dish. Very disappointing, I cannot recommend any is their kebat dishes. Maybe they left our the mint leaves, tumeric and masala cuz the only flavor I could imagine was tamarind due to the the hint of flavor? Basil chili chicken. Very tasty. I think this was chicken thigh though, despite saying breast in the menu. Also very small portion but at least edible. Chicken crisp. Heavily fried and breaded but tasty. Pot stickers. Family really enjoyed these.

Good tasting food but really wanted to have a better time there. First the food. It was delicious, and authentic in taste and feel for the most part. It made me feel like I was back on my trip to Myanmar. I really didn't enjoy the service there. Are individual server Katherine was good overall though I appreciate people checking back in to see how the food is after you drop it at the table which didn't happen. I was really needing a refill of water. No one offered that we're refill of our alcoholic beverage. After multiple attempts of trying to flag down at least three staff I had to stand up and walk to the hostess station which was just feet away and interrupt the hostess who was talking to a table that was clearly her friends for many minutes. it's a good thing that your friends enjoy coming to the restaurant that must mean the food is good. But please try to limit interactions with them so other customers can have your attention. The only other thing that I'll say is don't order the palata. The taste is spot-on, once again made me feel that I was at a streetside stall. While I recognize that can't charge the same they do in other countries the fact that this is $9 for the amount that you receive is disgraceful. It's fried bread with an unbelievable markup. when I saw it listed for $9 on the menu I assumed I was getting an ample serving.

Ordered through Door Dash and received very poor quality food. The Basil Chicken was advertised as chicken breast and it was clearly thighs. It was filled with onions and barely any meat. The garlic noodles with bbq pork again poor quality. Pork tasted very old. Very disappointing considering the price that was paid. $100 +

Ordered the pad Thai, sesame chicken, and basil chili chicken. The pad Thai was unflavored, not spicy like I ordered, and basically tasted like it was tossed in ketchup. The sesame chicken was too sweet. The basil chili chicken also lacked in spice and flavor. Note: I have been and ordered from this location and others and this has been a drastic reduction in quality.
