Just left this place and had a great experience. The jalapeno burger was definitely one of the best burgers I've ever had, well worth the cost and my server Rose was so warm and friendly. I'll definitely come back when I'm working in the area.
Excellent food and excellent service! The very friendly staffs always treat us with kindness. We know the owner, Rosie and Christina since my first son was born. Now my son is 16 and younger one is 12. They still love to see them and love their home made cinnamon roll and hamburger! They are so good! You should try it.
If you’re looking for something upscale, this isn’t the place for you. If you understand that this experience will be similar to when you’d go to your grandmas house and she really didn’t want company, but she loves you and makes you breakfast anyway, then you’ll have a great time. Food was good and my favorite part was when my son said he’d like bacon AND sausage and the waitress said, “well, I’ll write it down”…he only got sausage. You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit 😆 this is a laid back place and if you’re uptight you probably won’t enjoy it.
Food is wicked good, and the staff are all wicked friendly!
I came here with my family for my Moms birthday. Rose and George survived the Covid Shutdown and are as sweet as ever. George the Greek is quite the chef too! Homemade biscuits and cinnamon rolls to die for. Lots of parking which is rare for San Clemente and big food portions priced just right. If you get a chance, definitely stop in. They serve both Brekky and lunch in the morning, which I like, as Im not a big breakfast eater. We all ordered something different and all plates were delicious and big portions, I had to get a to go box! And, they serve Coca Cola! A coupe reviews on Yelf said the hospitality wasn’t good, but that must have been on their behavior. You get treated the way you treat other people. Be Nice, we are all human beings. We had a nice clean table along with our service ware, so not sure what the other review was about. It’s an old house that could use a touch up, but we found it clean. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
I’ve been eating here since 1997 and it’s still one of my favorite places, the owners and staff always remember and make me feel special and welcome.
Been here three times in the past few weeks. Breakfast and lunch. Food is really really good. We've had a significant variety of food here all repeatable. Foods very good, prices are reasonable and the owner Rose actually speaks to customers. Don't overlook this place for breakfast or lunch. Tuesday Sept 3 ‘24 Back here again for breakfast. As usual it was excellent. In addition to really tasty food you get served some really funny jokes, I now write some down to share when I know I’m coming back. Todays best IMO from Rose was : What do you call a cow with no legs ? Ground Beef. Followed by what do you call a three legged cow? …. Go ask Rose.
Great Mom and Pop restaurant located close to the freeway. It was our first visit, and we felt like regulars. The staff were basically then owners. They were kind, helpful, and really wanted youbtonfeel like it was your grandma's house. The food was excellent and the establishment was clean.
Perfect hash browns. Toast nice and toasty with light butter. Eggs cooked to perfection. I was a happy man. Rose and her daughter are super friendly and cool. Loved the family vibes. I highly recommend!
Mom & Pop place, not a bland chain restaurant. Been going for years, but it had been years since the last time (pre Covid) So happy they made it out on the other side, and are still there. Don't let this place become another memory of the good ol' days of S.C. Oh and the HOMEMADE cinnamon roll (that can feed 4) still fantastic!
My family and I stop by Sugar Shack on our way home from our timeshare visit in San Diego each year. It has become a tradition going on seven years now.The staff is always friendly and the food is great. This visit I tried the chicken fried steak and eggs. So good! The chicken fried steak was a good size, the hash browns were crispy, the eggs cooked perfectly and the homemade biscuit and country gravy were delicious. Not many places serve good homemade biscuits. And if you haven't tried one of their cinnamon rolls (homemade from scratch every day) you are truly missing out. But get there early, they go fast!
Local spot for breakfast, lunch. No dinners here. Family owned n still work there. No ADA entry or seating. They will bring it to your vehicle if your ADA. Food is great. Old house turned restaurant. Rooftop patio ,nice spot. Home cooking. Go for it..you'll love it.
This was such a wonderful little breakfast spot. Rose took care of my sister and I - food recommendations, jokes, and amazing hospitality. Such a wonderful little cafe!
Had a fabulous breakfast on New Years morning. We got lucky and had Rose as our server. What a delight. She brought out a cinnamon roll for my son's birthday. We will definitely be going back.
This little gem is so homey! It feels like you are back at your grandma's house eating her breakfast! Such a great little place with great food and Rosie was so sweet and entertaining that we ate here each morning(3) we were staying in San Clemente and then had to stop back through on our last day here in Cali. We drove in from Temecula bcuz I wanted to have breakfast here, on my birthday with my husband and Rosie!!! She is a special lady and I believe we will be friends for a lifetime now! We definitely be back when in Cali no matter where we are staying we will make a special trip to eat at the Sugar Shack!!!
We stopped here for breakfast. And the service was great and the Grecian omelette was good. And the cinnamon rolls were good.
What a lovely breakfast 🍳 We were driving back to Los Angeles county from San Diego and decided to stop in for a late breakfast 🥞 We were not disappointed. We were warmly greeted and provided seating and menus. Water and coffee were promptly delivered. Prior reviews are correct about the cinnamon roll…it came out warm and totally yummy!😋 The zorba scramble was very tasty and the steak and eggs were delicious. We would definitely come back!
It’s a small local mom and pop run restaurant. Rose is friendly and told us some jokes while we waited for all of our party of 5 to get there. Enjoy all their omelettes, eggs Benedict and surfers revenge was a plate of hash browns with a ton of veggies. Roast beef dip was on a nice size French roll. Good portions and regular coffee get refilled.
I found this place after my surf session and was starving. Their breakfast burritos and cinnamon roles always hit the spot. The owner Rose is lovely & welcoming every time I visit. 🌹
Went to San Clemente to help with the Tour De Recovery (TDR). Saw the riders off and found this little gem of a Mom & Pop breakfast spot. Rose served us, and she was great. Joked around with us like she's known us forever. The food was great and the atmosphere was definitely something to enjoy, like eating at grandma's. Thank you to Courage to Call and Wounded Warrior for allowing me to give back to the veteran community and finding this gem.
The food and service was great! What a dynamic waitress I had this morning! I tipped her 40% for being awesome and making my day! Protect her at all costs! We need more of her types these days! Thank you! Muah! See you soon!
The perfect spot! Rose was a sweetheart, and a fabulous chef!
This is a fabulous good old-fashioned hamburger stand with lots of choices of hot and cold sandwiches and lunch fixings. The waitress was really fun. I loved everything about it. If you're driving down 101 get off for Dana Point and check the Sugar Shack out! You won't be sorry.
The food hands downs was amazing!! The cinnamon rolls was our favorite. We met rose the owners and she showed us nothing but love! She told she has been her for 38 years! The views and the area are beautiful and very peaceful. Highly suggest trying them out, proceed are fair and you will leave FULL.
Went and enjoyed Sugar Shack this morning. Was delicious as usual. Enjoyed an ABC Omelette add jalapeños. The hash browns were cooked perfectly and crispy.

Rosie is the best and this place is so wonderful . Food and atmosphere is wonderful . A true gem
This place is a mom and pop type of restaurant, so don't expect a chain or fancy place. The owner Rose was truly sweet and thoughtful!!
We had a delicious breakfast at Rose’s Sugsr Shack this morning, the Eggs Benedict were possibly the best I’ve ever had and my husband raved about his eggs/sausage/hash brown’s plate. Great service and great food!

A true hidden gem in the south end of town. We have breakfast or lunch here frequently. Great food, very friendly staff, good service. A bit of a blast from the past with a beach cottage vibe. Just a fun place with excellent food! That's why we keep coming back! Prices are in line with today's restaurant meals, and given the excellent quality, a bargain!
Cute little spot in town for breakfast . We had French toast, omelet and the cinnamon roll. My family loved it. It is quaint, and the service friendly.

This place is run by a woman named Rose who seemed very nice and it's a small business, for which I am completely aware of how difficult it is to run an establishment, especially a restaurant, in California but the prices were just outlandish. The food was decent. But I ordered an omelette with spinach, ham, sausage, and bacon and the price was $28. It came with hash browns which were delicious but when a business like this needs to charge this much for an omelet, I cannot in good conscience recommend it. Also when the woman came by to refresh our sodas, she left a short black hair from I don't know where on the table. I really would like to give a better recommendation but the price and the cleanliness was lacking at best. $28 omelet? And a plain Belgian waffle was like $15. Absolutely insane even given the unbelievably ridiculous nature of the California economy.
The Sugarshack is one of those pit stops off I5 heading to or coming fro LA in San Clemente. This Covid-19 has really beaten and battered the restaurant industry here in California as I see the owner's eyes fail to hide his worries as he explains his menu. Look, the meal was an bacon and cream cheese omelet and besides the $21 price tag it was decent. I probably pay half of that in Florida but thats besides the point. I will stop by again, hoping to see a glimmer of hope in the owners eyes when this pandemic starts to fade. I pray.
Choose this place was the only opened breakfast restaurant in the area by 8 am Saturday morning going to san Diego. Cheap maintenance, very nice lady who help us, food standard, cheap coffee but fresh and very expensive for an omelet more than 25 dollars. No complaint about the food but expensive, in general California restaurants are expensive everywhere

Very very slow! Took 30 minutes and we were the only ones in the restaurant. There was hair in my food. Ick. Very very! expensive for a basic breakfast.

Please save your time, stomach and money and go to Dennys instead. Our waitress, the owner, was very nice but that’s really the only positive. Place was dirty, bathroom/stock room area was full of gnats. The makeshift high chair is so unsafe and molded. 3 people and the cost was almost $100?? Not sure how pancakes can taste rancid but they did. I do not recommend this place at all.
If I could give a 0 star I would I walk in and automatically was disgusted and my daughter was on a makeshift high chair which was very unsafe and was touching my daughter without asking and on top of that the food was very bad wasn’t fully cooked and the country style A was just a bunch of mush put together and my wife couldn’t even fully finish anything besides the hashbrowns how can this place have good stars but yet only good thing is the pancakes and some sweets. If you’re coming here for a breakfast meal better to go to dennys then this place.
I rarely ever give a 1-star review: The food was under seasoned, the huevos rancheros were basically a can of tomato sauce and canned veggies poured over eggs. They forgot food items. The staff was 2/3 rude (1 nice lady), and bitching at each other. The ready orders had tickets falling on top of the ready food and they didn’t flinch at it. Very slow. Overall unpleasant. Cute little vibe, though
AVOID this place. Went to try this place for the first time after living in SC for years. It was just 2 of us and the bill came to $75 before tip for breakfast. Honestly we were shocked. I know the cost of everything has gone up but that is ridiculous for breakfast for 2 people. We literally spent less at Fisherman's on the pier getting 2 steak dinners the night before than a simple breakfast here. And honestly the food was nothing special, just diner type food. Would not go here again. Still flabergasted.
Very rude service. Arrived and saw people with menus outside, so asked staff inside if we too could dine outside. Waitress snapped and rudely raised her voice said we just wait outside but would not serve outside. Then complained she might not be able to provide us service inside. Granted the place looked busy and understaffed, but regardless ditch the poor attitude. We won't be going back.
I'm baffled that this place could stay in business after the horrific experience we had. We were over charged and yelled at outside by the waitress and cook. The waitress made rude comments the whole time we contemplated leaving the second we sat down (wish we did) Even if the food was remarkable I'd never put myself or my family through that experience again. The food was however greasy and cheap tasting. I would give zero stars if I could.
Beware this place is terrible. I almost never leave a bad Review, but I felt obligated to let others know that this place is not any good. Overall I don’t think this place deserves 1 star. Chairs- extremely uncomfortable Facility- old out dated not clean, smells Coffee- cheap cold coffee and cheap powder creamer. Cup still had lip stick on it from previous customer. When it was mentioned to waitress, she poured the coffee that was in dirty cup into another cup and handed it back to us 🤦♂️. Toast- suppose to be sour-dough , was cheap white bread. Hash browns- toasted on exterior, uncooked frozen inside- not eatable 🤢 My $25 omelette with crab was terrible 🤮. When waitress ask if I didn’t like it, I told her it was not good, she said know one really likes that one 😳. I told her hash brown was not properly cooked, she replied that’s too bad, then said I hope the rest of your day is nice. The other 4 family members with me also said their food was disgusting, possibly used rancid oil to cook it. Only edible food was the chicken strips and fries my daughter ate. Service was poor at best. Atmosphere - music was outdated. I felt uncomfortable from the time I entered the place.
If I could give this place negative stars, I would. Upon entering, the server seemed inconvenienced by having to do her job. She didnt greet us and was overall just very rude. Once she finally sat us down, we noticed how filthy the place was. There was food stuck to the table, the silverware was dirty, and there was a cigarette butt on the floor. We ordered stuffed french toast, jr. French toast with a side of fruit and sausage, and a Sugar Burger with cheese and french fries. The stuffed French toast was 90% egg (it was literally bright yellow from egg yolk), the "stuffed" part was just a piece of banana in between 2 slices of bread, and there was HAIR in it. The burger patty was slimy and premade. We couldn't even get the servers attention for another 15 minutes to explain what was wrong. While waiting for her, we watched her cough directly into the food service window over peoples food, as well is into her hand before touching someones toast. I plan on calling the health department today. This place is disgusting.

Sorry but l will definitely not return. Food was terrible throughout our entire (8) table. Was crazy priced and service was more of the same. From the order to the delivery… just simply bad. Locale was good but that’s it… sorry.
Don’t be mistaken, this is NOT the same sugar shack cafe as the one in Huntington Beach. I don’t understand how this place has any good reviews. We spent $80 on a family of 3, which for the quality of food is absolutely criminal. The cinnamon roll (that we paid an extra $6 for) was cold, they gave my kid a half a cup of milk and charged us $9 for it. The yogurt bowl had crappy grocery store melon on it and took longer than my husbands omelette to make. Everyone at my table was almost finished with their food by the time my yogurt made it out. $20 for a yogurt with granola and melon is crazy work. We will never ever come here again.
