My husband and I happened upon this place on our first day, and ended up returning two more times in our three days in San Cristobal. The food is natural, organic, fresh, & made with love. Simple local ingredients locally & ethically sourced that fill you up and make you feel so good and healthy. Geraldo also offers classes. We ended up taking all three: Salsas Mexicanas (we made 6!), mole, & queso. Wow!!! All classes include a meal. We learned so much with the great company, knowledge, & expertise of Geraldo. We went in to get dinner, and left with a friend, an unforgettable experience, & happy bodies. 10000/10 recommend.

Absolutely unforgettable experience, column food, cacao, company. I have been Reminiscing and salivating about the food. We had a day ago all day today.. We will definitely return to eat here again! Don't miss the guac, it will be the best you have ever had, guaranteed! The owner, Gerardo, is lovely and engaging.

We found this vegan restaurant by chance and absolutely loved it! They offer a daily menu of traditional mexican food at a very fair price, freshly prepared with lots of love and organic ingredients. The guacamole was one of the best we had during our stay in Mexico! The owner is very friendly, we had a nice conversation and you can really feel that he does this with heart and soul. It feels like eating in a friend’s kitchen rather than a restaurant. Highly recommended if you’re looking for delicious vegan food and a genuinely warm atmosphere.

My group came here after our first temascal experience and Geraldo was the best host. He took such good care of us and treated us like family. You can taste his passion, love and care in his food and the environment is warm and cozy, exactly what we needed after an intense temascal. Mucho gracias Geraldo 🙏✨

Amazing, cozy, warm place. It feels like being invited into Heraldo's home as a guest, where he cooks for you in front of you while chatting. Incredible hospitality. The food is perfect. Simple, traditional, organic and soo tasty. I've been traveling Mexico for weeks and this is hands down the best meal I've had yet. It's so affordable and you leave full and nourished, with some knowledge of local life + tips too. If you're in San Cristobal I imagine this is exactly the kind of experience you're looking for.

An absolutely incredible experience having a delicious meal at Gerardo’s studio/restaurant. The food was incredible, organic and clearly made with care. Gerardo offered plenty of interesting conversation throughout our meal and plenty of local knowledge. A unique and special experience.

Art Liberia is the very BEST local organic vegan cuisine in San Cris, it's my absolute favorite! The owner, Gerardo, puts his heart and soul into his cooking and it shows! I've never had better guacamole anywhere else in Mexico, it's PERFECTO! There's a daily menu that changes according to whats locally available. If you long for unique and authentic local organic Chiapas cuisine then this is your home cooked meal away from home! Enjoy!

You have to go to this restaurant, you will eat the best and healthiest Mexican food. You can find with a super cool and open-minded owner who can give you amazing historical and cultural insights. I felt how much love and healthy ingredients went into my food and really enjoyed the guacamole and soup, especially ! This place is for all who love authentic, healthy food and travel in a conscious, ecological way .

I absolutely loved the food here one of the best meals I had in Chiapas. Rajas con queso really reminded me of a meal my mum cook and that me made me so happy. I’ll be back and I recommend everyone comes here to eat.

Exceptional vegan experience, one of a kind, you can all sit around one large wooden round table meeting new people and enjoying the freshly made traditional Mayan vegan food prepared by one Mexican guy who is very knowledgeable and explains the food to you, all of which comes from local indigenous organic farms in the area. The food was extremely tasty and made from the soul. An experience like no other I’ve had

Finding Art Libreria was like finding a treasure. I walked in alone, and in the end had dinner with four other travellers. We shared delicious vegan food while Gerardo was cooking for us and explained the traditions, history, and values behind each dish. Gerardo does a really good job advocating in a very kind (and tasty!) way for animal rights and the return to the ways of indigenous people when it comes to relationships with the land and nature. I lost track of how many dishes came to the table, but I can say with certainty that each of them was incredible and so clearly made with love. Gerardo even picked up the guitar and played a couple of songs for us. I felt like I was at a friend’s house for dinner, and it was a very special and unforgettable experience. Thank you, Gerardo!

We felt welcomed by Gerardo as soon as we entered - he enthusiastically told us what was on the menu and explained the ethos behind what he was doing. Everything we ate was exceptional - the Mole and the Guacamole was the best we have had in Mexico! We loved practicing our Spanish with Gerardo too. The atmosphere was lovely - jazz music in the background and it felt like you were eating in somebodies home rather than a restaurant.

This place is magic! Not only was the food delicious, nourishing, and clearly fresh, but I also felt was like eating in my friend’s home. Gerardo treated us like family, sharing stories and information. Wonderful to learn that the vegetables are grown in local communities. Must go if you love the planet!

Wow! I really love this place... it's making me hungry just to look at the photos and think about the meal I had there recently! Absolutely incredible flavors, textures and freshness - I was amazed! So much nutritious, high quality fresh produce made into a real, yummy homemade, elaborate Mexican banquet. Absolutely zero grocery store packaging, minimal salt and sugar, maximum spices and real organic heirloom plant flavors! The owner Gerardo is an absolutely beautiful being full of knowledge and insights, who prepares his traditional "peasant" Mexican dishes with real love, passion and intellectual understanding, and who furthermore treats his visitors and the ingredients with the utmost consideration. Really an interesting, jovial guy to talk with, especially if you are interested in the food system. He serves you all the food you want to eat in big steaming hot clay pots full of delicious, vivaciously nutritious, real home cooked organic locally grown food! This last time I went, we had thick lentil soup, a mind-blowing red salsa, potatoes with chard, oil-less tostadas, and the most amazing guacamole you ever tasted. The table was utterly laden with abundance! To drink: lemon and spinach water, which I asked him not to sieve: a delicate, vitamin- packed refresher! Nothing sugary, nothing oily or salty: just real, authentic, flavorful, highly nutritious and light (voluminous! full of water and fiber!) FOOD. This traditional meal is a tribute to the slow food movement but also a surprising throwback to family celebrations and the ancient Greeks lounging about eating while discussing philosophy! And all of this happiness in a unique, very comfortable, community minded space complete with a mini library and geology museum, artwork, plants, event announcements, and even apartments around the back. I enjoyed the feeling that you are sitting in this big open dining room, around the big table. I commend Gerardo for his revolutionary genius and with it, his sincere, generous love for those he cooks for! I hope that little by little restaurants and eating culture in general will change and that this densely nutritious, high quality, local farmer connected, sociable experience of eating out will become the norm! Go to this awesome place around lunchtime really, really hungry!

Gerardo was so welcoming and his passion and love for food came through in each bite. Could not recommend this place more - amazing value (so much food!) and even better conversation and ambiance. Thank you, Gerardo, for all that you do!

OMG Undoubtedly the BEST vegan food we have ever had (we are vegetarian usually). We were in Merida for 2,5 weeks and almost lost faith in Mexican food for vegetarians.. until we found here! Made me almost cry to taste such authentic, insanely delicious and healthy Mexican food! We ate like we haven’t eaten for days haha but strangely the food still felt “light” in our stomachs! The last day in SC we had a hot sauce workshop with Gerardo which was super fun and educational! We will try to make it ourselves when we are back in Europe and show off to our friends ;)The place felt like a home and community that makes me believe in humanity again 🥹Gerardo, please keep doing what you do because our beautiful planet needs more people like you!! 🥹🙏💚🌎

This restaurant has a very special place in my heart. Gerardo puts his whole soul into this small cozy place and the food he prepares. If you wanna try traditional authentic food, this is the right address for you (if vegan or not). Furthermore you will support local economy and organic food production. Gerardo really cares about where his products come from. I had the opportunity to learn the secrets behind the dishes during a Mole and Rajas Poblanas Workshop. I can highly recommend cooking together with Gerardo!! His whole restaurant is just an incredible experience!!!

There's a reason this place has a perfect 5 stars on Google. In months and months of travel in Mexico, this sits as one of my favourite places and experiences that I had. Gerardo's place is more than a restaurant, it feels more like a community space, where he also shares food with you. You sit around a big table, great for chatting and meeting new people. The food is made with so much love and Gerardo's commitment to building a community, helping people and good vegan food is such an inspiration. The guacamole was incredible and when I went back, Gerardo gave me some incredibly tasty cacao. If more people were like Gerardo, the world would be a much better place. Thank you for everything!
