HUGE difference with the new ownership and staff. Carlos, Naomi and Liz (thank God they kept Liz) are fantastic. I go there for dinner every weekend and they treat me like I am family coming home. It is night and day from what it used to be and I am so happy to see Hob Nob have the same delicious meals but now with excellent service to go with it. Strongly recommend people come back and give it another try!

We were very pleased with this restaurant. The breakfast was excellent and well proportioned with a reasonable price. The service was also top notch with the manager also walking the floor and making sure we had everything we needed. Lastly, the atmosphere was particularly good. The restaurant was well lit and most importantly, clean. All too often you step into a restaurant that has dirty upholstery, dusty fixtures, and dirty carpets and floors. This place is well maintained.

Wanted to stop in because of reviews, and because this place is anchored in Southern California / San Diego Restaurant lore. I started off with a well gin martini + filthy dirty please 🙏 Carlos the manager said martinis are my specialty … it absolutely did NOT disappoint, it was amazing. We tried several things on the menu including appetizers, meal, and red velvet cake dessert. All top shelf and outstanding service. Carlos is the bomb ! … we will be back. Yes, it may be under new ownership after 81 years … but with Carlos standing watch on the Ship, she is in very good hands.

Stumbled upon this place by searching for nearby restaurants close to the hotel we stayed in. Nice little spot with great food and excellent service from the manager Carlos and other staff. We ate there 3 times during our stay in San Diego. Will definitely come back to this place.

Absolutely loved my experience at Hob Nob Hill! The space was spotless with beautiful white subway tile and sleek black marble countertops—it felt classic but fresh. I was honestly shocked there was no wait on a Saturday morning for breakfast. I ordered the Mediterranean omelette, and it was perfect—flavorful without being greasy like at so many other places. The English muffin? Hands down the best I’ve ever had. And the orange juice was freshly squeezed, which was such a nice touch. 10s across the board. Also a great spot if you’re coming with a larger group. Definitely coming back!

My wife and I found this online and decided to give it a try. While there, we found out that Hob Nob Hill has been around for 81 years. It's under news ownership now, but the menu was left unchanged, although it was improved upon. My wife and I shared onion rings, a garden salad, and the chicken and dumplings. All the food was great. However, I can honestly say that I have never had chicken and Dumplings as rich and delicious as what is served here. The manager, Carlos, was warm, friendly, and attentive. It was obvious that he was proud of the food the kitchen was putting out.

This wonderful diner is situated just outside city but it is full of hustle and bustle. The food is stellar, and stellar is putting it lightly. The staff embodies the tenant of old fashioned diners. There is a reason this place has been longstanding for 80 years!

This was the first time in awhile that I visited Hob Nob Hill, and everything was delicious! We ordered the deviled eggs, the meatloaf dinner, and the smash burger. Everything was well seasoned, tasted fresh and overall presented well. The inside was clean, organized, and had that classic diner feel. Our server was Jeannine. She and the other staff were all friendly and attentive. We also ordered some pastries to go, there are several great choices. The cinnamon roll was a solid pick. I will be back!!

Stunning food! Love love love the deserts, everything is delicious! The only thing bad about our last visit was the service, the staff forgot about us and never refilled our drinks until it was time for us to eventually leave. The service needs to be looked at, but the food and desert if you get it eventually, is delicious.

I recently visited San Diego for the first time and discovered Hob Nob Hill, a charming local diner, through an online search. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The decor had a nostalgic, classic diner feel, and it immediately made me feel at home. I decided to try the Loco Moco, and it exceeded all my expectations. The gravy was rich and flavorful, perfectly complementing the bed of rice. Each bite was a delightful experience, thanks to the savory sauce that tied the dish together. The beef patty was the star of the meal—juicy and bursting with flavor. It was cooked to perfection, and its quality truly stood out. The service at Hob Nob Hill was exceptional. The staff were attentive and friendly, continuously making rounds to ensure that every guest was well taken care of. Their attentiveness made the dining experience even more enjoyable. They were always ready to refill drinks, answer questions, and check on how we were enjoying our meal, making us feel valued and appreciated. Overall, I had a fantastic dinner at Hob Nob Hill. The combination of delicious food, outstanding service, and a cozy atmosphere made for an unforgettable dining experience. I highly recommend this diner to anyone visiting San Diego or even locals looking for a great place to eat. I will definitely be returning on my next visit to the city!

The Calm one

Wow this place was very surprising. I wasn't expecting to walk into such a nice atmosphere. The reminder me of the aria hotel. The service was great. We got chicken fried steak and eggs with biscuits and gravy. I will give it a 9/10. They have a display case with tons of great looking desserts that I definitely want to try next time. The breakfast comes with toast,biscuits or muffin. Server was very fast and attendive. We will definitely be back again. They have a very nice looking bar as well and I believe bottomless memoses for around fifteen dollars.

Wanted to have a diner style breakfast and this place was recommended by staff members at our hotel. What a great recommendation. I really enjoyed my breakfast. I had two buttermilk pancakes which were really fluffy and lite along with two pieces of bacon. It was really good and the service was great.

The new owners changed too much of the old menu that our group always enjoyed. Did away with the O'Brien Potatoes..A big mistake..Did away with the muffins.. A big mistake and who has ever seen a bacon omelet with full strips of bacon inside the folded eggs..in my opinion, they should always be incorporated into the eggs.. We have finally decided that we are NOT going back..The only thing I liked was they finally did away with the Wizard of Oz mural. A very displeased old customer. I should also mention that the prices have increased Too much for our liking...$5.00 for coffee and a sub-charge????

This was horrible and very disappointing. I never thought Id utter those words in the same sentence as Hob Nob. I’ve been coming here for years and always order the fried liver and bacon or onions for breakfast. It was very nostalgic for me and reminded me of how my mom (R.I.P) used to make hers. The best thing on this plate were my potatoes . My eggs were not soft scrambled like I ordered, the bacon is not crispy like it use to be, and I have never seen liver look like this in my life. I only took a few bites. I gave two stars for the potatoes and because I didn’t see the meal online but they took my order over the phone.

It’s been a couple years since we’ve come by, and there seems to have been a change in ownership. While many of the same menu items remain, the execution and quality of the food is so much worse. The chicken and waffles used to be bone-in, with a delicious cheesy waffle - It was unique and memorable. The chicken and waffles we had today were incredibly basic. Not terrible, but nowhere near what we’ve come to expect from this restaurant in the past. What a disappointment, we used to love coming here. It also took 30 minutes to get the food, it unfortunately was not worth the wait or the price. I liked the upgrades to the decor and thought it was an improvement, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back.

Regular HobNob customer here, this was our place. The place that we would always come to for a great breakfast, amazing service, and just good vibes. The servers were always smiling and on point, and so was the food. As of recently this little gem went under new ownership and a lot of things have changed; down to the smiling and charming employees that used to work for our favorite little place. The food was mediocre at best and the service was horrible, there's a very visible change in the quality of the food things are bought frozen and served not homemade like they used to and for the price is def not worth it . Three people spent over 90 dlls for some really horrible food we didn't feel the love and we will def not be coming back. It's sad, when new ownership takes over and now all they care about is the bottom line.

I am done with these guys. I have been going for over 40 years. Food was always great and the staff was excellent. Lately though all their prices have gone off the charts and their staff is nowhere near as charming as they were known for. I ordered a pie for Xmas two weeks ago. I asked the price and was told it would be $17.95. Yesterday I called to verify that it would be available today. They left me on hold for 20 min trying to figure it out. Today I went to pick it up and again, at 8AM with an empty restaurant, they left me waiting for 10 min. to pay. Then they tell me it is $28.95. I let them know I was quoted $17.95 when I ordered. The hostess responded, "That was our price 10 years ago. When did you order it?" The place has turned into a clown show. The food has always been good, but not that good to have to put up with this level of service and their prices.
