This little spot had some of the most delicious and affordable cooking around, which felt like a homemade meal. I ended up trying their #5 and loved it all. The chicken, the kebabs, and the imperial roll were 🧑‍🍳 chefs kiss. It is a small space, and while there were spaces when we got in, expect a tight and cozy environment.

The two aunties working are amazing, very sweet ladies! This restaurant is a quintessential hole-in-the-wall experience with good food to boot. We enjoyed the five spice chicken, pork chops, and imperial roll. It's a small place but very cozy - although not my favorite in terms of viet food, I would 1000% come back if I'm in the area because it was such a fun experience. The aunties are very giving and there is a real cozy feeling that's hard to describe. They take cash or venmo! There's a chase bank around the corner so you can also grab cash if you need.

Cozy hole in the wall with delicious smells wafting from the grill and fryer. Only got an imperial roll but it was one of the best fried rolls I've had.

The aunties are really friendly. It's a small restaurant. The menu is quite unique but the five spice chicken is very tasty. Generous serving and inexpensive. Next time I would like to try mapo tofu.

this place is such a hidden gem serving the most authentic Vietnamese food in the city. prices are excellent and it's BYOB. highly suggest dining in so you can chat with the ladies and watch them grill your meats. make sure you order the imperial roll and remember to bring cash. they will accept cash or venmo for payment. we will definitely be back 🥰

Amazing food, great prices, and a fantastic atmosphere! I ordered the #5 and it was absolutely delicious. I loved it and would 100% come back.

The owner is a very nice lady and we felt very welcomed there. You get a free refillable tea with your meal too which is nice. We tried the number 1 and ma po tofu - both were great! They cook the food right infront of you which we found it pretty cool. Do note that this is a small restaurant with limited seats.

hidden gem on polk street serving the best 5 spice chicken i’ve had (i normally avoid it)! combo 5 gives you a bit of everything but the chicken and gravy are the highlights. beef was ok and would stick to chicken only next time. chicken was perfectly smoky and grilled. imperial roll was solid too

One of my favorite spot in the city. Always smells so amazing when I pass by. The chicken and imperial roll and pork chop are absolutely delicious. The price is so good and the ladies are masters with the grill ;)

The tagline is that this may be the best chicken you’ll have outside of Vietnam, and it’s not a hyperbole. Came here with my friend for lunch on a Friday around noon and jabbed two seats. The restaurant is very small (it fits about about 10 people) and it’s situated around the kitchen where you can watch the lady cook. Everyone seemed to have ordered the Number 5, and so that’s what we did. It’s a huge split so we split it between the two of us. The egg roll included was the best I’ve had in a while - it came piping hot and was so delectable. The five spice chicken and the shish kabob were well-seasoned and juicy. You get rice with a gravy on the side as well as coleslaw. Cash only. There is tea available or self-service water. There seemed to be a lot of regulars and I would absolutely be one too if I lived in SF. Definitely come here for a cheap, delicious, homey meal.

Katie is not only a grill master but a total sweetheart! Everything on the menu is DELICIOUS!! The flavors are even further accentuated by the immense LOVE that she pours into every dish. My go to is the #5 with a pork chop and it never disappoints. The imperial rolls are a MUST!

No wonder it's popular with the folks around here! Got the combo #4. Delicious! No frills kind of place. Note this place is Cash only!!!

Simple eats. I've always seen this place busy during dinnertime and I finally got to try it a bit later in the evening. Even though it says Cordon Bleu and you woukd thinks it is some complicated French cuisine. It is really just a simple Vietnamese place operated by Chinese people. So, if you like simple carb meat veggie combos of a meal, this is the place. It is also very cheap for a hefty serving, about 8.5 bucks a meal. Well worth the visit. Again. Simple Asian Eats. You'll enjoy your meal. Oh and it's a BYOB place. The food here would be a good pair for beers. Enjoy!

Delicious meal at Cordon Bleu. The imperial roll and the noodle salad were both impeccable. Great portion sizes, reasonable prices, and very, very high quality food. Will happy be back, hopefully soon!

Used to come here when I was in art school. Came back with my family and it was just as amazing as before. My family really enjoyed every bit of the home style cooking and the cozy vibe!

It's like a mom & pop burger joint converted into a Vietnamese grill diner. There were 2 "aunties" working the food preparation (soup, roll frying/cutting, grilling, shredding chicken) on the grill/stove/fry area which takes up a wall of the small space. I The counter space was occupied by locals (it seemed) who placed their orders without looking at the menu and remarking to each other how the fried imperial rolls (cha gio) are the best at this establishment. The noodle salads were tasty/crispy/crunchy. The everything plate was way too much. (could feed 3 small eating adults) Remember to bring cash.

Super cozy spot with grill-facing bar seating. Greasy spoon/comfort food style. I had the #5; chicken thigh, pork, imperial rolls, slaw, and rice with "meat sauce" (reminded me of Japanese curry). Lovely and filling. The chicken was particularly was moist and tender, and all the meat had a solid char. Price per portion was good.

Comfort food! It was a fav when I lived in SF some 20 years ago and I always make an attempt to dine where whenever I am in the city. The Five Spice chicken is well marinated, moist and smoky. The meat sauce on rice is satisfying and comforting and the spring roll is a decent size with lots of well seasoned meat inside.

Had a half and half spicy pork chop and their five spice chicken and also their imperial rolls. all very very good. The only thing is just beware you'll smell like barbeque when you leave there because you're sitting right in front of the grill with them cooking. But the food is so yum. It's almost completely forgotten while you're eating there. Can't wait to go again. If there is a line just call in for a to go order.

Absolute hole-in-the-wall gem. The place is tiny — think shoulder-to-shoulder bar space with just one table — but that’s part of its charm. Despite its humble setup, the food punches way above its weight. The chicken dish was fantastic — juicy, flavorful, and seasoned perfectly. Just one note: ask for the sauce on the side next time, since it’s poured over the rice by default and can get a bit heavy. The mapo tofu came in a generous portion, with silky-soft tofu and rich, savory flavor. It leaned a bit salty and wasn’t really spicy (even though the server checked if we wanted it spicy), but still really tasty overall. Extras? Free hot tea, always a plus. The best part — cash or Venmo only, and two full plates came out to under $30. Hard to beat that in the city. Overall: cozy, unpretentious, and packed with flavor. A must-try if you’re nearby and want great food without the frills.

Cordon Bleu is an Asian Fusion restaurant with both Vietnamese and Chinese influence. It is famous for amount of food... $20 including tip out the door if you just drink complimentary tea or water, even with the big "Number Five" plate which has pork, chicken (thigh and leg), salad, and rice with a lot of garlic and onion sauce, AND a fried (over-fried?) imperial roll. You will leave full. There are of course, a few other combos, and some other items, but almost everyone orders "Number Five". As the place is small, service is fast, and the food is tasty enough (though the roll is a bit overfried, IMHO). Still, the chicken and pork are great, lots of char. And that's the most expensive item on the menu. This place is a very economical eat, and the bar seat makes for more intimate atmosphere. Worth a try at least.
