Avis sur Hakashi San Francisco
Being my first time in San Francisco, I wanted a solo night out with great food and a nice vibe to treat myself. I sat at the sushi bar with Chef Julio, which was the best decision of my trip. The fish quality is incredible, featuring a mix of fresh local catches and premium imports from Japan. The hospitality sets this place apart. I spent the evening chatting with Chef Julio about his story. He is knowledgeable and warm. He even surprised me with several extra items to try, and each was delicious. The Dassai 39 paired perfectly with the nigiri, and the Alaskan roll, chu-toro and scallop nigiri were a few standouts. I had such a great time at the sushibar and chatting with other friendly guests and staff!. If you are in SF, you must visit Hakashi. I will 100% be back. Thank you, Chef Julio, for an unforgettable night.
I been to Hakashi twice now and both times have been for their Omakase. We’ve truly enjoyed both visits. The variety of fish presented in ever different way was amazing. Both times Julio was our chef and the two visits were completely different featuring what was in season and fresh. Julio is very passionate about what he serves and he does it well. He uses mainly fish and ingredients from Japan. Tonight one of the nigiri we had black throated perch, a very rare and expensive fish which I had one other time at a Michelin 3 star restaurant. Hokkaido uni, otoro tuna, caviar, Hokkaido scallops, and lobster were all on the menu tonight. Very attentive and friendly serve from Julio and Abel. They also have very extensive saki menu with many great bottles to chose from. We’ll be back again soon.
Not only the best sushi I’ve ever had, but one of best restaurants the Bay Area has to offer. An excellent service, food, and drink experience that will bring your Japanese pallet to the next level. No more words, just make your reservations… Like now!
Great, inventive use of very fresh ingredients. Came here for a huge birthday dinner party, and was very impressed. All of the guests says they will return soon!
Phenomenal quality. Everything was among the best I've had. Standouts were the chu-toro, hamachi, hamachi-belly, Santa Barbara Uni, snow crab, akami and amaebi. Highly recommend. They also have Suntory Premium malts on draft! The main dining room can be a little loud when its full.
What an incredible experience. This place is the definition of a hidden gem. Julio, the owner and chef, was amazing. He didn’t just serve sushi — he actually took the time to teach us about the fish, explain where it came from, and how it should be enjoyed. You can tell he genuinely cares about the craft and about giving guests a great experience. He had me try several things I’d never had before, and every single piece was outstanding. The fish was incredibly fresh and the flavors were perfectly balanced. Sitting at the bar and watching the care and detail that goes into each dish made it even better. If you love sushi and want something more personal than the typical restaurant experience, this is the spot. Great food, great vibe, and an unforgettable meal. Can’t wait to come back.
First time here and it was amazing fun. What a must go place if you are in the area. Sushi Chef and servers were so great and even the customers were rocking out at the place. Girls night out and we just chose this place and so glad we did. Great food and great ambiance.
I took my boyfriend here for a date night, and it was absolutely perfect! The fresh sushi rolls stole the show. We started with the gyoza, which were nice and crispy, had a bunch of their sushi rolls and topped it off with their cheesecake. The vibe is very cozy kinda set the mood for a romantic evening, and the attentive staff made our experience even better. This place is definitely a hidden gem.
Get a seat at the bar, throw your hands up and let Chef Julio pick your plates and drinks! This place is a mix of fine dining and izakaya vibes from tokyo. Every plate chef Julio sent me was heaven. Say yes to whatever Chef Julio offers you. Pick this place if you're local, solo traveler or a serial dater. You wont regret it. This place is great!
I cannot recommend this place enough! The omakase was a wonderful experience and all of the dishes were fresh, delicious, and beautiful! Chef Julio and Nelson did a fantastic job with the food! They did a great job accommodating our party’s dietary restrictions, offering substitutions for dishes that some of our party members could not eat.
Came here on a Friday night and was pleasantly surprised by our overall experience. We had reservations and got seated quickly with drink orders in. We had a bunch of Nigiri, our favorite being chu toro, hamachi, and mackerel. But everything we had was high quality cuts. The rice was perfectly done as well, which I feel like that ingredient gets overlooked often. The wakame salad salad was fresh and absolutely delicious. We sat at the sushi bars and the chefs were so fun to watch and nice to chat with. The price is very fair for the quality you get here. We will absolutely be making this our new go to local sushi spot. Highly recommend!
We sincerely appreciate your warm hospitality in hosting our boss and our team. The endless flow of drinks and the abundance of delicious food filled our stomachs beyond capacity, leaving us truly grateful for your generosity. Your kindness and effort in making us feel welcome did not go unnoticed, and we deeply appreciate the time and care you put into ensuring everyone had a wonderful time. Thank you once again for your exceptional hospitality. We truly enjoyed every moment.
Me and my friend absolutely love this place!! The service is great and the food we had was beyond delicious. Lot of their raw fish just melt in your mouth right away, we asked the server for the recommendations and we ordered the ones they suggested and we love them all! We ordered a lot more but was so focusing on enjoying the food and only got a couple of pictures. Will definitely come back again for the fresh and delicious sushi!!
Chef Julio and his staff gave us one of the most amazing dining experiences that my wife and I have experienced. We've been to hole in the walls to Michelin starred restaurants, and this place has topped all of those experiences. You can see how much Chef Julio loves/enjoys his craft. He took his time to explain each dish in detail. Obviously, I was drunk with endorphins with each bite that I don't remember the names of all the pieces that we were pampered with. I did remember that each piece had different layers of flavors that never overpowered each other. They perfectly fused together in harmony. I overheard another patron say he just returned from Japan, and this place beats the quality there. I personally can't confirm that, but I can seriously say my wife enjoyed it so much. She told me we're ONLY coming back here for Omakase and nowhere else. Thank you, Chef, and see you again soon.
Nice place. I got the mixed tempura, extra shrimp $2 each. I enjoyed it all except the zucchini, they had a shishito pepper one and a mushroom included both were great (they have them on the menu separately FYI). I also had the lunch tempura roll $10. The sauce is a no for me, I recommend getting it on the side (a tiny bit is enough) if you’re interested in tasting it for yourself. The tempura in the roll is cooked differently than the regular tempura and I think that is a mistake, the taste and flavor are off, texture too. The ginger was dry and the wasabi wasn’t spicy, normally I’m snotting and teary eyed but nothing happened today. Friendly staff and I got a welcome to the neighborhood bonus. I’ll definitely be back and will update.
I've visited Hakashi in San Francisco countless times, and each visit reaffirms why it's my go-to sushi spot. Owners Emma and Julio have created a welcoming atmosphere that's hard to find anywhere else. Their warmth and exceptional service make every meal special. The quality of sushi at Hakashi is second to none. Every piece, imported from Japan, is a testament to their commitment to authenticity and excellence. The fish is always fresh, offering an unmatched taste experience. A standout for me is their Rossito - simply the best I've ever had. The vibes at Hakashi add to the overall experience, making it not just a meal, but a delightful escape. It's a perfect blend of relaxation and culinary sophistication, ideal for any occasion. In a nutshell, Hakashi isn't just a restaurant, it's a jewel in San Francisco's culinary scene. A visit here is a must for anyone seeking the best sushi experience. Cheers to Emma, Julio, and their team for consistently delivering excellence!
Overall, the quality of fish was really good, and everyone enjoyed the food. Issue was the service. The waitress did the best that she could with how many tables she had, but we just kept waiting for longer than needed because she was too busy. We would have to wait to put in orders, she brought the check prematurely while we wanted to order more, and we weren’t really checked on. The food would often be dropped and she would just walk away before we could ask for anything. Might come back again but on a slower day, hopefully they get more servers on so it is less of an issue. Additionally, price was on the higher end for nigiri.
Do not understand the stellar reviews. We ordered two omakases. There were some interesting and tasty items, and the food all seemed fresh, but the soy sauce soaked rice ruined the sushi items for me as the rice would fall apart on contact. Who makes sushi this way? The service was also distracted since the restaurant was understaffed. Mediocre ambiance. Overall, not worth the high price. I will not go back.
I don’t usually leave negative reviews but I felt I had to this time. The restaurant was around 80% full on a Saturday night and clearly under staffed. The restaurant is pretty loud but that’s fine, whatever. We ordered a couple of rolls and an appetizer. The sushi rolls came out at a reasonable time and they were fine. Nothing special. Meanwhile our appetizer was nowhere to be found. We had to flag down a waiter TWICE to actually get our appetizer order in. It still took 20 minutes for gyoza which was definitely not worth the wait. They comped the appetizer but this is San Francisco, you have to operate at a higher level of service here. Forget an order once? It happens. Forget it TWICE? 😒 Meanwhile the chef and the other cooks were literally drinking sake and partying with the people sitting up at the bar and ignoring the rest of the customers. I don’t mind a chef being jovial with guests. I actually like it. But you have to actually do your job and not make paying customers wait over an hour for their dinner.
