Worth the price! ~$100/person omakase before tax. I’ve been here twice and both times were great — fresh seafood, good pace, great ambiance. Get the Buckwheat tea, and try to get bar seats

I absolutely love Hinata! Every time I’m in SF, I make sure to stop by for omakase. The fish is always incredibly fresh, the ambiance is fantastic, and they have a great selection of sake. The chefs are a lot of fun, and adding on extra pieces is always worth it. I still remember their homemade sesame ice cream—it was so delicious. I’ll keep coming back whenever I’m in San Fran!

Wonderful experience and quite an intimate one at Hinata. We had around a 12 course omakase meal with a lovely vibe. It was a great balance of fish and we'd definitely come back. With 2 hot sakes and an additional roll for each of us, our bill came out to $450. I'd price it more around $300 for the quality that we experienced. Gavin did a great job keeping us happy and we'd love to see him again.

We made a reservation for 5 on a Thursday afternoon at 5:30pm. It wasn’t too busy and there was street parking right in front. We were welcomed by the friendly staff and we opted to sit at a table and not at the bar. They knew we were there celebrating a birthday and were really accommodating. We wanted to drink sake so we first got both flights (6) to taste test them and we ended up going with Diaginjo Kinka. We enjoyed our meal and it flowed well especially while our group was chatty, I personally like the fatty tuna and salmon nigiri’s and all of the extra different type of portions. They do the traditional hand and finger towel or you can use your chopsticks. We added on the supplemental plate and amaebi (sweet shrimp). We were so full and they were so nice they let us cut our cake there! There wasn’t a menu for the omakase so I didn’t know how many pieces we had but the servers were good at explaining along the way. There is bar seating, a small private area and tables, but definitely traditional Japanese style, lighting, and feel.

Great value and service. Delicious plates-both the nigiri and the appetizers.

From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The omakase started with 3 refreshing and flavorful appetisers. They are incredibly creative and unlike anything you'll find elsewhere. The appetizers are beautifully presented. The 10-piece premium chef’s selection of nigiri was another highlight—each piece was expertly crafted, fresh, and full of vibrant flavors. I also ordered the Uni Trio. It featured three different kinds of sea urchin, each one fresh and distinct, showcasing the incredible quality. Ambiance was perfect for a special occasion.

All around 5 stars! From the service to the wine/sake selection. Chef Kyle and their som Chica gave us an incredible experience. And let’s talk about VALUE!! I don’t know many omakase spots that give you that much and cost that little. Snow crab bite was the star!!!⭐️ Will be back.

Amazing food and service. The Omakase menu is barely enough to fill you up, we had to order a couple more dishes to be full. It gets a bit more expensive but it's worth it since the list has some really good options. I liked to end with the best possible bite, which for me was the Otoro remix with fatty tuna, uni and caviar.

came to celebrate a birthday and it was the perfect experience! amazing omakase menu ($125/pp) and got the uni trio ($39) add on as well, which was definitely worth it! the service (thank you Togo/Gavin) was so great, the ambiance is always 10/10, and this is an amazing spot for a special occasion. PS: they gave us a little ice cream with a candle for the complimentary birthday item! so sweet.

It was second time dinner at Hinata and it was beyond amazing as always! Fish was well prepared and it melted in my mouth. My husband and I took my in-laws from PA this time and they said it was the best meal they ever had in their life! The wait staff and the sushi chef's service was very attentive to my left-handed father-in-law. They put the spoon and chopsticks to the left hand side as soon as they spotted he was drinking sake using left hand! We'll definitely go back again and enjoy their delicious omakase!

Outstanding experience from start to finish. We were fortunate to secure a rez on the same day. The omakase was perfectly paced, so delicious, and the beverage pairing was on point.

Among the top Omakase experiences in San Francisco. The service was beyond exceptional. They pay attention to details like if the customer is left or right handed, re-filling up sake, refolding napkins when you are gone to use the restroom. We got our own sous sushi chef who rolled our sushi and talked to us the entire time. A couple of items were a little lower in quality from what you get in Japan but others were indistinguishable.

Came here for a Valentine’s Day dinner early and what a cool omakase experience! We got the grand experience. Good: - We got seated right in front of the chef so got to talk to him as he made the sushi in front of us - Good amount of food - there was some appetizers and dessert and a lot of nigiri - Super nice service and the fish was all so so fresh and tasty - Romantic ambiance inside, its dim and quiet for catchups Bad: - expensive! Overall it was a great date spot and a really nice vibe.

Very nice place for special occasions or just a fancy night out. Our meal was minimalistic but elevated. Fish was well prepared and each item was so unique. Our chef was attentive and welcoming, especially to customers who had any food aversions.

For $125, we got an excellent omakase experience in SF. I’ve been to several omakase places and normally $100ish range omakase is quite mediocre comparing to $200-$300ish one, but this place has amazing quality for a very affordable price. The restaurant is clean with limited seatings at omakase table where you can see the chefs preparing the dish and several separate tables for dine in. They also have a la cart menu if you want extra fish and try other kinds. The service was great. Having reservations ahead is recommended. We were lucky that we made reservation a day before and got in for Saturday night dinner

great service and really enjoyed the experience!! the chefs and hosts were all extremely friendly and made sure to keep our waters full and fill our plates right when we finished eating that atmosphere was intimate and a great place for a small birthday celebration! the omakase itself was quiet filling and the ice cream was delicious. I have had omakase at similar price point that i enjoyed more, but overall still had a great experience due to the presentation and majority of the plates!!

Such a reasonably priced omakase! The corkage fee is only $35, which is a great deal. The taste, the portions—everything was excellent. It’s a hidden gem with no reason not to go. I’m definitely going every time I come to San Francisco. This is the second sushi spot opened in SF by the owner of Sushi Jin, and the quality is so good, it’s totally worth the money.

In brief, pretty good omakase, especially for the value —18 pieces for a little over $120. None of the courses did I think were “not fresh.” Again, will recommend for the value. My only critique is the chef should give us new plates instead of wiping down our plates with the SAME cloth for each person.

Chef Gavin was exceptional. Every piece of sushi was exquisite. Val our server was very knowledgeable about his beers, which were very crisp and clean. Unfortunately my reservation was at 8pm, got sat at 8:23pm. Just paying over 576 usd for two people, I expect the service to be impeccable. Anways the omakase was very affordable but we had add-ons. Sadly next time we visit, Gavin omakase experience will more expensive because it's worth every penny. I'm glad my first omakase was here. 😊

Food and service were excellent - some of the best nigiri I’ve had. However, we were very disappointed to not be able to sit at the bar as we drove 3 hrs for our first omakase experience. I am a sushi chef myself and was excited to watch the sushi being made and engage with the chefs. We were seated at a table away from the bar. We made our reservation online through open table, and nowhere did it mention reserving the bar versus a table. There is only a section for “special requests” which I interpreted as a section to mention any food allergies, etc. As a result, we did not receive the full omakase experience we were expecting. This is something that should be clarified during the reservation process to avoid disappointing future customers. Maybe a specific question asking “bar” or “table” seating reservation. We would be happy to return for another experience, and next time I will be sure to call the restaurant directly to make sure they have my reservation down to be seated at the bar.
