Beyond the absolutely delicious and flavorful food (the best I've had in a long time), the service and the kindness of the staff truly blew me away. I visited quite close to their closing time, and instead of rushing us or making us feel unwelcome, they were incredibly patient and warm. What really exemplified their exceptional hospitality was when they went above and beyond and offered me a complimentary, appreciation cup of coffee as we were finishing up. This simple, generous gesture speaks volumes about how much they value their customers. It’s clear they are run by genuinely good people. If you want fantastic Indian food served with heart, you must visit! Thank you for a wonderful experience—I will definitely be back!
Would go again! Seated immediately for 2 on Tuesday at 12:15pm. I was in a rush, but luckily service was fast and we were out by 12:50pm. Great for a quick lunch. The interior was spacious and there's a nice mural as well. The waiter was kind, attentive, and wanted to make sure we had a good experience. He gave us a mango lassi ($6) and gulab jamun ($5) on the house. We ordered the chicken tikka masala ($16), lamb vindaloo ($18), regular naan ($3), and garlic naan ($5). Would recommend getting a side of rice to soak up the sauces, since there's a good amount in the masala and vindaloo. The masala was incredibly creamy and the chunks of chicken were tender, not dry. Same for the vindaloo, which also had lots of yummy spices. I thought prices were reasonable.
The food was delicious . Affordable pricing with a 5 star experience. The server was so attentive. P.s. Photos don’t do justice!
My second time dining here, delicious food. Also great attention to service, the samosa I ordered came out a bit burnt, they replaced and also offered me this little Gulab dessert at the end to make up for it, I appreciate the thought! I look forward to coming back again.
The food experience was great. The lamb vindaloo and hydrabadi chicken were very tasty, while their naan is the best my wife and I have had in a very long time! The man who waited on us was a gentleman and very attentive and friendly. I recommend anyone visiting the Alamo Square area to come here for l Iunch or dinner.
Delicious! They have prawn korma, and gave us a complimentary gulab jamun for lunch. The mint in the water was so refreshing. Very fresh naan. The mango lassi was just ok (Kasa still has the best one in the city). Very pretty place too, lovely paintings on the walls. Very tasty, and looking forward to coming back.
Came here with two other friends on a Monday evening and it wasn't very busy. Very warm inside. Our food came pretty quickly. The 2 orders of garlic naan were great. We also got the fried eggplant which tasted quite nice (I think even if you don't like eggplant, you could try this dish since it's cooked so softly it tastes like a pumpkin). Also got chicken tika masala and a saag paneer I think. Overall enjoyed my experience and could come back. Enjoy?
Indian Oven has been the go-to restaurant in Lower Haight for at least 30 years. Their quality has never wavered. It's important to support local businesses, so give them a try. Start out with the garlic naan & potato pea samosas, work your way through the chicken masala & vindaloo. Go crazy & add some curry, any kind. Don't forget the Mango Lassi, and don't make my mistake my offering to share. The servers are happy to guide you through the menu and suggest things if you ask. When they say "spicy" they really mean it. Gringos will want medium or mild. I think they still have upstairs dining, great for events, however I prefer the downstairs ambiance. They do take-out too. Destination dining.
Authentic, straight from Punjab, North Indian cuisine. Cozy environment with old folk music. Food prepared in live tandoor. Recs - murgh makhani, paneer tikka korma, chili naan, onion kulcha, gulab jamun, kulfi.

We stopped here for a late dinner and the tikka masala was the best we have ever had! We also enjoyed the rice and garlic naan with it. Service was great! We’d come back next time we are in town!
Wonderful food, impeccable service. We arrived without a reservation on a Friday evening, which was no problem. Very pleasant atmosphere. Delicious food with a magical blend of spices. We’ll definitely return.
This place is so good! The food is so yummy and I think more importantly the staff is so hospitable and so nice. My girlfriend and I were wanting to pick up an order even though we were a bit late as they were very close to closing, and they accepted our order and even let us sit down while we waited for our order to be made. Would highly recommend. I’m enjoying the food right now and it’s bomb.
So glad that we stumbled into India Oven on our vacation. This place was top tier food, and amazing service! Was a total fluke that we happened upon it, but I will tell anyone coming to SF to try them out. I had the Chicken Tikka and everything was superb.
Chef Happy and server Gurpreet made the dining experience really good. We had the paneer makhni, chicken tikka masala and naan. Very much “comfort” food. The mango lassi and gulab jamun were also delicious. Will definitely revisit to try other dishes !
This is the most delicious Indian food I have ever had. The time and care taken to make this food shows in the taste and presentation. The atmosphere is near fine dining but the price is not. The service is impeccable but most of all the food is excellent. Come here and eat!

This is our favorite neighborhood spot – they've been around for over 20 years and the staff are warm and welcoming, especially Happy, the chef. There are a ton of vegetarian options all reasonably priced. We've tried almost all the vegetarian dishes but the favorites are: bengan bartha, paneer makhni and paneer tikka. The garlic naan and onion kulcha are freshly made in the piping hot tandoor oven, best eaten fresh and burning your fingers. If you're in a rush, the food comes out pretty quickly. And if you order too much, it tastes even better as leftovers.
I attended a birthday dinner here and had the most delicious Indian food ever in my life. everything I tried was amazing, including the mango lassi. the staff was super nice even though we stayed for almost 3 hours talking loudly. they even gave us mango ice cream at the end!
Hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome — warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. The service was spot on the entire evening. The food? Next level. Every dish was packed with rich, authentic flavors — perfectly balanced spices, beautifully cooked, and clearly made with care. Whether it was the butter chicken, the garlic naan, or the vegetarian options, everything was fresh and full of taste. Highly recommend Indian Oven if you’re after amazing food and top-tier hospitality. Will definitely be coming back!
Chili Naan + Paneer Jalfreezi is awesome. If you can't handle spice then make sure to tell them to tone it down a bit.
I came to this place many many years ago... i’m so glad I venture out and tried something different from my normal Indian go to restaurants. The ambience is very nice here with the waiting staff being very attentive. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and saag paneer. It was delicious. I live in the neighborhood and I don’t understand why I haven’t come here so much more often than waiting over 15 years to try it again. I will definitely come back and recommend to my friends. It was a nice surprise to be treated to gulab jamuns at the end of the meal 😉

Friday afternoon at 1 PM and we were the only people in the restaurant. Always my red/orange flag, slow during busy times. Although service was kind and responsive, and our waiter took care of our needs and made sure of them. Nothing in this review is about service; Admin (The name from receipt) the server have that down. Food was mediocre. I ordered Tandoori Chicken and instead got something that was a reheated vindaloo glop of goo, see pictures, and whatever it was was cooked so fast and so hot it tasted burned and overcooked. It wasn't bad per say, just not memorable. Tandoori chicken = chicken wings or whole sides; red is an option — not small pieces of a chicken back in a thick, burned sauce. Again, wasn't bad, I ate it because I was starving, but not what I ordered or what us Americans understand to be what is going to be served as "Tandoori". The rice, instead of being fluffy and nice, was overcooked and very starchy, all seemingly coming to the table way too hot. When food is cooked too fast or too hot, it can't be tasted, and even when it cooled down, it was something I can make at home for a couple of dollars. My spouse thought his meal was "fine" and it was "fine". As the chef in my family, I might have higher standards, but I also understand the complexities of cooking. I felt I was served something that they knew was wrong or they should say that the meal is scraps of chicken meat and bones = half. Half of what a chicken back? I found the chai tea kind of flavorless, and the sides, in my view, needed a tad more salt, but that is my opinion and I tend to like things a bit saltier. Overall, there can be a lot of improvements here to the food itself, and I did not enjoy opening the restroom door with my hands less than a foot away from the naan kiln. Would I return? Yes, but it would be dinner and only if they are busy and a clear understanding of what I am getting. Empty restaurants during busy times always mean bad food or service because servers and cooks get on their phones and smoke breaks and forget things until it's overcooked or forget their customers.
Paneer makhani and Navratan Korma were both nice but could have had more flavor. The service was amazing!! Must try🍽️ Mango chutney elevates the taste of the curries Kabuki naan Garlic naan

a couple years ago i used to eat here religiously like every week on repeat . i saw it again nd decided to try it again to see if it was just as good as i remember. (i ordered takeout) first , the chicken tikka masala was WATERY! the sauce was almost flavourless and was a watery consistency . rice was fine , but the garlic naan .. bb i dnt know how to make one but trust me it wont be burnt . it was burned to the CRISP ! 🤦♀️🤦♀️ the quality went downhill ever since 2023 . wouldnt come back again , vry disappointing ..
