Tip: Be patient as there may only be one or two employees, but the food is worth the wait. The cafe is small, so it can feel tight.

Avis sur La Cuisine Cafe San Francisco
TLDR: cute cozy spot with seating on a busy corridor, nice decor and relatively inexpensive for SF downtown Stopped by this cute spot and got an iced coffee for $4, cheap by SF standards near downtown. Looking up and seeing the nice artwork and murals, as well as the old school chandelier shows some character in this establishment. Love these old school places that exist less and less these day
I don’t often review anything but this place kind of struck a chord. It’s everything I want in a coffee shop and I’d like, maybe a little desperately, for establishments like this to stick around. The classic painted panels of the high walls to the light Italian opera on the stereo, there so much character in every corner of La Cuisine that you can’t help but want to just sit on the orange vinyl benches, watch the steam rise from your cup and ponder anything and everything. I don’t think my opinion matters when it comes to the technicalities of breakfast but everything was hot and fresh. The proprietor was quick and asked if I was satisfied. I was, very much. I guess I just wanted to say thank you La Cuisine for being open on a gray morning in November and giving me that very enjoyable feeling of discovery and one of the more heartwarming cups of coffee I’ve had in a while. I hope to be back.
The food is delicious and this mocha is the best and tastiest I've ever had (and I always order mocha at coffee shops). The whole place is adorable!
Small cozy but amazing interior with great food and service! Posh bagel and coffee ☕ were delivered to table and milk was heated separately! This was wonderful being a small space. Worth dropping by for a sandwich and coffee 😁.
It’s a nice little get-away from the busy city outside. Small but cozy french cafe with beautiful interior decors. Absolutely loved the California Brioche Toast - they ran out of brioche and used croissant instead - it was amazing. The owner is super friendly. The hot chocolate and latte was good too!
They serve Verve coffee! Super cute place on Market Street, I had a late latte here but want to come back for lunch. They were almost out of bakery and pastry items which is always a good sign. High ceiling and nice setup made it very inviting. Definitely a transition from the chaos outside.
This place is so delicious and beautiful. It’s a one employee does it all type of place but the barista is so nice and he gave excellent recommendations. We had a hot latte and an iced latte both were perfect. We had a mixed berry danish an almond danish and the egg frittata sandwhich! Yum yum yum!!! Everything was DELICIOUS!!!!
You'd never expect coffee, freshly ground to order, in such a baroque interior hidden in the Civic Center area. For the iced coffee I ordered, it looks like they made an espresso into an Americano which was then put in some ice. I don't know much about coffee and only ordered it because I wanted to sit down outside but it seems like a nice place to me. To get to the restroom, you'll have to go through a residential building, into a loading dock, and you'll be holding a key attached to some tongs. It's an interesting journey.
omg so scrumptious !! the freaking avocado toast and arugula and egg was genius !! cute place too
This is a really nice little hidden gem. They do a lot with very little space, both in preparing and serving/seating; be patient because there’s only one or two employees back there but the food is worth it. The coffee is really on-point and tastes amazing.
Very beautiful place, almost like you are having breakfast in museum! Amazing personnel, super positive and friendly, always playing good music. Delicious food, would have breakfast here every day if I lived here.
YUMMMYYYY!!! 10/10 recommend this place for breakfast! Feels like you’re into Europe! The little tables, small elegant vibe, with impressive windows and chandelier! I loved the coffee and the lox bagel was *chefs kiss* I would come here all the time if I lived closer. Maybe the best croissant I’ve had in the states! A little hidden (we walked by 2x) but that makes it even more fun right?! Come thru get some food, fresh coffee and don’t forget to tip!
This place looked big in the pictures but actually small in person. The high ceilings were decorated with exquisite chandeliers. It’s a bit tight with cozy European cafe ambience. I ordered salad #4 with beets, avocado, capers, cherry tomatoes and lettuce etc - it was delish! My sister ordered a cappuccino while I got the latte with almond milk. price is reasonable for the city and customer service is excellent despite the busy lunch rush hour. I could try the sandwiches next time should I happen to be in the area again before or after watching a play in the Orpheum theater or ACT.
There is an antique Greek element to interior walls with their classic ancient paintings, some profane , others sacred. Cozy space , Ingratiating manager. Love their coffee and croissant. Comfortable outdoor seating when devoid of construction noise. Prepared food looks enticing and will try next time.
This cafe made me feel like I was in Paris. The ambiance and the music just completes the aura. First time here and I felt like I’m already friends with the staff, they’re friendly and inviting. Unfortunately I didn’t catch their names but the two gentlemen had great energy! You’ll really feel like they enjoy their jobs. Me and a co-worker came for lunch. They offered full and half sandwiches. I got the “half and half.” Half sandwich half salad. I ordered the turkey sandwich and it tasted like it had a special sauce, it was yummy! And got half of butternut squash with quinoa salad, so fresh and a delight. Last but not least I got an ice-latte to complete my meal. All for under $20. I thought the price was right for the amount of food I got. This was only a short walk from my work, I love San Francisco!!!
Very lovely French-esque cafe with great breakfast items, pastries and delicious coffee. Owner is a kind hearted, lively person who’s very welcoming.

I had a pretty good pre-maid pasta salad. People are nice, it’s clean (and feels safe considering the area). Very tiny, very old-school

Stopped here waiting an hour for the bart to open. I knew nothing about this cafe previously, so it was my delight to see the beautiful atmosphere present in such a compact space. I got a Gibraltar which I had no experience with, one sugar/sweetener later and it was a relaxing way to begin my Sunday. Found by accident but will be returning, great place.
Friendly service and a good cup of java in a cozy place. The espresso beans that they use are unique and worth the very reasonable cost. I really enjoyed the cafe atmosphere and the Italian-style old school decor.
A nice small cafe that offers good food. the guy who took out order was a delightful encounter. he’s nice. would definitely come back here on my next visit to San Francisco.
The place looks great but the espresso is terrible. Sour as hell
I am writing express my deep disappointment regarding the treatment my husband, his colleague, and I received at this establishment earlier today. Upon arriving for breakfast after my husband’s work shift, we were immediately approached by the owner while sitting at an outdoor table. Before we could even offer a greeting, we were told to leave because the tables were reserved for paying guests. Despite my husband politely explaining that we intended to order, he was abruptly cut off and ordered to leave the premises. Determined to proceed with our visit, I entered the cafe with cash in hand. The owner shouted over other customers that the establishment was credit-only. When I presented my credit card, the owner then stated he would not serve the men outside, claiming his right to refuse service. A customer behind me remarked that my husband and his colleague appeared "homeless" due to their work clothes, a sentiment the owner appeared to agree with and use as a basis for refusal. Even after I clarified that I was purchasing breakfast and coffee for all three of us, the owner refused to serve us entirely. This experience was deeply hurtful and embarrassing. To be judged and denied service based on work attire is unacceptable and contradicts the values of equality and inclusion that define the San Francisco community. We were eager to support your business, but the hostile and judgmental behavior we encountered ensures we will not be returning. I hope you take this feedback seriously and reflect on how your staff and ownership represent your establishment to the public. Shame on you La cuisine! Shame on you!!
Bad customer service! I came in to get a muffin. There was a plate of muffins set on the counter. I picked one up (by the paper wrapping) and started to ask a question. The man behind the counter started yelling, "You can't touch that!" I told him I was planning on buying it and was just wondering what type it was. He kept yelling repeatedly (in front of everyone), "You can't touch it!" This was something set out on a counter for customers. I only picked up one muffin that I intended to buy. I'm conscious of hygiene but he didn't care. I got sick of him yelling at me, so I said "Fine. Forget it." He said, "Good. You can't touch it!" Terrible, even abusive, customers service. While I did nothing wrong, if he wanted to say something, he could have let me buy the muffin and have said, "In the future, I would appreciate it if you would let me select the muffin for you." Never going back there, even though I work nearby.
