A great Filipino-Japanes restaurant run by a very nice Filipino-Japanes couple, EJ and Hitomi. It only has 8 seats and fixed course menu so reservation is necessary. The whole experience is awesome. The food was just incredible, perfect texture and excellent flavors. The seating area is located just in front of the kitchen area, so you can see how the meals are prepared, and the meals are served by the chefs themselves. Then, EJ tells a detailed and interesting story about how that particular dish was inspired. Three course menu is more than enough to fill you up, and they also offer sake pairing as an option. Not only the food is great, the owners are very nice people. It happened to be my birthday when I visited (not that I came there to celebrate, but just happened to be there on my birthday), so they prepared a candle in my dessert and sang happy birthday and then even took a picture with me and gave me a signed card. That was very touching. The whole experience was so impressive, in terms of food, presentation and overall ambience, that I will for sure remember this dinner. Thank you, EJ and Hitomi ^_^
This is a unique restaurant. First of all the food is delicious and cooked right in front of you and served. Why is it unique ? Each food item has a story behind it and the chef explains it. There are 8 tables and 2 chefs so always reserve. This is a must if you are in San Francisco. The cuisine is a combination of Japanese and Filipino. I was also surprised by the art inside the restaurant. I loved it.
One of a kind experience! My wife and I truly enjoyed ourselves that night as we celebrated her birthday. The vibes, the food, and the shared laughter will be a memory we will hold for life. Thank you Ox and Tiger for sharing your love with us.
A very special experience! You get to see the two owners and chefs cook everything in front of you while they talk about their passions and life stories! The food was phenomenal, very tasty and insanely original. Their menu changes every few months, I’ll be back for sure! 10/10 dining experience!
Exceptional. Can’t say enough good things about this place. Every bite was inventive and exquisite, and it’s clear the owner-chefs absolutely love what they’re doing, and bring their creativity and culinary expertise to every element of the experience. They were also very mindful about a food sensitivity I indicated ahead of time and gave legit substitutes, and generally seem to take great care in ingredient selection. I could go on, but suffice it to say, if there were a monthly membership to come back, we’d be their first to sign up!
Hands down one of the best dining experiences you’ll have in San Francisco! They provide a 4 course menu that changes every 6-8 weeks, with the option to add a drink pairing and a special extra dish. The food is exceptional, and comfortingly down to earth. And the portions are perfectly sized where you feel full and satisfied at the end, but not overwhelmed or heavy. The owners, Hitomi and EJ, pair each course with a story about the origins of the dish which adds another layer to enjoy. The space is intimate with just 8 seats, creating an environment where you can learn something new about Filipino and Japanese cultures, Northern California food and farming, and the people dining alongside you. It’s a wonderful place to celebrate special occasions or to treat yourself. We recommend buying out all the seats for your friend group and it feels like a private dining experience!
One of the most unique dining experiences in SF, and every course was a banger!
Super cute experience! Only seven seats in this little gem. The two chefs prep the four course meal in front of you and tell little stories about the food as you eat! Culinary storytelling at its best! The Kobe tartar was definitely the highlight -- lots of love is going into these dishes and the menu changes regularly. The price point surely makes it accessible and will keep us coming back for more! Don't forget to ask about the eclectic ice cream flavours that this team curates - ours was porcini mushroom for dessert and it was surprisingly addictive! Kudos to the team for an awesome experience!
Came here for a birthday celebration and enjoyed every bit of it! The crew provided a unique experience - providing stories to why they made the dish and how to properly enjoy their creation. Their menu rotates every 6-8 weeks too. Highly recommend coming here for any celebration coming up 🥳🥳
Genuinely one of the most delightful dining experiences of my life. The owners are incredibly friendly and sweet, their stories are fascinating, their food is transcendent, and their curated playlists are a perfect complement. I'd go here every single time they change menu if I lived in SF.
What a treat! We had the four course menu “Never say never” and everything was absolutely delectable! The menu changes every 6-8 weeks, with hardly any repeats. Hitomi and EJ are the best, sharing stories about the dishes and food that you almost feel like you’re getting dinner and a show. Loved the curated music. It seems like every detail is lovingly thought out. The oysters were so unique and I love that they were served with calamansi. The tempua?! (Tuna hand roll) was seasoned with some of my favorite flavors. The octopus was braised and grilled to perfection. Better than I’ve ever had it prepared previously. The beef cheek melted in our mouths and I loved the sauce! The dessert was the right about of sweetness and who knew carrot ice cream would be that fabulous?! I hope we can come back every two months because it was such a great experience. I love how they mix their two cultures together (Filipino and Japanese) in such a way that is creative and really fabulous.
A most memorable and hearty experience. The chefs, and owners, narrated each dish with anecdotes to their designated theme for the evening. We were lucky enough to come after they returned from a vacation in Asia. Thoroughly enjoyed the duck. The ice cream was clever as well.
- Taste/Range of Flavors (out of 5): 5 - Service (out of five): 5 - Price ($ = 100 per person): $$ - Would recommend to close friend (yes/no): Yes - Review: This was a great experience all around! We enjoyed going here for our anniversary. The restaurant is located where Tselogs used to be. The owners/chefs are a cute couple that bring homesickness and nostalgia to their dishes. Their fusion is akin to Gaia the Fierce Knight and Curse of Dragon; it’s a combination that seems like it was always meant to be. We plan on returning when their new menu drops and hope to get our friends hooked on this place as well.
One of the most unique and personal dinner experiences! The owners mold every menu to their personal stories and share the background of each dish. This is such a great dinner event that feels Joe a community experience
We had an amazing time at Ox & Tiger! Both the chefs were extremely friendly, kind, and welcoming. The tasting menu was fantastic, and the chefs shared the genesis story for each dish, bringing us with them on their journey. Would highly recommend!
Phenomenal dining experience unlike anything I’ve had before. Hitomi and EJ perfectly execute Japanese-Filipino fusion food which is both unexpected while still being homey and comforting. We had the luck of having a private dinner here which was so cozy. Hitomi and EJ were eager to tell us about their recent travels, their respective upbringings, and all of the influences behind their current dishes. They answered all of our questions and it was wonderful to be able to connect with them through conversation about their food. Highlights for the current menu were the house barley tea (delightfully nutty and floral), pickled raisins (!!) in the appetizer course, the kobayashike (a complex mushroom “lasagna”), and the absolutely stunning beef short rib which we ate with a spicy citrus soy and vinegar dipping sauce that we made at the table. Highly recommend Ox & Tiger; I can’t wait to go back for next season’s menu.
This Bondfire dessert changed my life. On par with: eating oysters for the first time (favorite food), and eating chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream (favorite general dessert) for the first time. A bon(d)fire blazed up into glory in my brain and all my senses were heightened for these few minutes. I almost cried when I was close to finishing it. I then prayed in remembrance of this small thing that gave me goosebumps with every bite. Everyone should go to Ox+Tiger
The vibes are as if your best friends are hosting a dinner party. Incredibly unique flavors across the courses, and the hosts have a fun little story for each one! We really felt like we knew them by the end of it and we were so satisfied with the meal. Bring your own rice if you want!

Definitely the best meal of 2025 without a doubt. The sake pairing was quite nice, and we got the silog / nori add-on (split it with partner) and that was delicious. I had the pescatarian version (scallops instead of beef) and could share it with mari's dish. The sauces in each dish were the best part. Only regret was there was no rice or bread to soak the sauce with (but on the flip side, it also ensured we were not super stuffed, definitely a good thing) Loved the combination of filipino and japanese cuisines. they made it sing nicely together. Loved the chefs description of the dishes, the inspiration and background. Go eat here now (sorry, too busy eating and did not grab any photos)

A really lovely dinner - I was here back in July 2024, and am looking forward to returning soon to try the new menu! The location can be a bit hard to find, as it’s in/around the Tenderloin and just a small chef’s counter. Everyone is seated along the counter (so I’d recommend coming with just one friend if you want to be able to talk). A big part of the experience is being able to watch the chefs, which are a very sweet couple, prep each dish and explain the story. We had four courses; salmon sashimi, tofu egg roll, duck, and fried mochi. My favorite were the first two courses. The sauce on the duck was a bit too overpowering for me, and I couldn’t finish the fried mochi (just not a fan in general). However, the chefs clearly have a lot of passion for their craft & overall a great addition to SF!
