Spicy thighs and red beans and rice are the best. Tenders are surprisingly not even close but a three piece is surprisingly generous.
Finally got my hands on the elusive chicken sandwich, and can say it definitely lives up to the hype! Ordered through Uber Eats and it came still warm, crumb was super crispy, and didn’t feel as greasy as I thought it was going to be. Overall delicious!
20 mins before closing they served me up a fresh chicken sandwich. Easy
This 5 star rating is based on 95% value alone. Just ate a delicious, crispy, moist, FLAVORFUL, spicy chicken sandwich for $6.51, what a fantastic value in these times of skyrocketing food prices. The sandwich was also good size, nice thick piece of chicken. Service was quick and efficient, only a 5 minute wait for my sandwich. If you want a delicious chicken sandwich and don't want to shell out $15-$20 for it, head to Popeyes!
Amazing experience! My first time here and snagging a table was a bit tricky but was able to snag a Saturday 5:30pm reservation. I had a seat at the chef counter and it was a dinner and a show. We got in total 2 items off the menu and 5 items from the dimsum cart. Everyone was extremely kind and gave the best recommendations. Absolutely loved the sourdough-sauerkraut pecorino & ricotta pancakes & the duck dumpling!
Modern style meets dim sum: The food was exceptional and filling in ways I didn’t think were possible. The restaurant was packed, with a lively cacophony of people and music—it could be difficult to hear at times - but the servers still managed to clearly explain each dish. The standout was the duck liver mousse paired with tiny sweet pancakes, finished with a milk shot at the end - unexpected, playful, and incredibly well balanced. The ribs with passion fruit sauce were absolutely out of this world - deeply flavorful, tender, and unforgettable. Every dish delivered bold, thoughtful flavor combinations that felt both indulgent and intentional
We loved the experience of cart going around and picking what to eat and every bite was delicious. Our least favorite was the duck liver but the duck sandwich was really good, and the tofu dish was excellent too (felt like a soft egg bite). All the dishes were very flavorful, and we enjoyed everything. Fried garlic bread with burrata and persimmon went so good together even tho they were separate dishes. It felt a bit rushed deciding what we wanted, but overall it was a wonderful dinner experience and we loved it. The mochi cake dessert with milk shots were delicious as well
This place is very popular and reservations go quick! I was lucky that there was a cancellation and managed to get a spot last minute. Once we got to the restaurant we had to wait 10-15 mins until we were seated. The restaurant was full and was a bit noisy with amount of people in there. The staff were great and helped explain the concept and the dishes. I liked the dim sum style carts that they pushed around with dishes on them. Many of them looked amazing! The dishes we got were excellent, flavorful and fresh. I highly recommend this place!
Good and fun spot worth checking out. Love the dim sum concept. Got a variety of things, listed below with asterisks to indicate what I enjoyed and would get again: 1. Fried Bread with Smoked Burrata & Porcini Mushroom 2. Duck Liver Mousse with Almond Financiers* 3. Sourdough-Sauerkraut Pecorino & Ricotta Pancakes* 4. CA state Bird with Provisions* 5. Black Trumpet-Luna Koshihikari ‘Risotto’ 6. Shrimp Cappelletti* 7. Miso Walnut Tart 8. ‘World Peace’ Peanut Milk
Visiting San Francisco and wanted to come check this place out so I made reservation about a week ahead of time. So glad I came! The food was so good and the peanut milk is the best thing I’ve ever had. All the staff was so friendly as well! Hopefully I’ll get a chance to come back on another trip.
I love bringing friends and family here so they can experience State Bird, and I’ve been here four times. If you’ve ever been to a dim sum place, it’s a similar concept where food is rolled around on carts, except instead of dumplings, you’ll find things like oysters, garlic bread with burrata, and financiers with duck liver mousse. That’s the fun of it—you get a surprise dish or two to add to the table. There’s also a regular menu for larger plates, and the smaller items come around on the carts. It’s a really fun dining experience, overall. The staff are always friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I’ve had to book weeks in advance each time, so I definitely recommend planning ahead. Pro tip from my last visit: if you arrive early, you can grab drinks next door at The Progress. They’ll let you bring your wine or beer over to State Bird once your table’s ready.
Super fun and well priced for the experience. Great food! Amazing service. I really liked the bay shrimp handrolls.

One of my favorite dining experiences in SF, reasonable prices and such a diverse menu. Loved every part about this place, only call out is that they only do beer & wine drinks.

Loved it. Great service, food, ambiance. Some of our favorites were the trout dip, sourdough pancakes, avocado, scallops, and himachi. Our 6 month old especially loved the pâté.

It’s a Popeyes, the quality is as expected. The location has a few indoor seats, and some shambolic energy, but surprisingly fast service. I got a chicken sandwich in like 3 minutes.
The spicy chicken tenders are amazing with a good spicy sweet/sour sauce & they reheat well in an air fryer. I ordered from Uber Eats & they didn't give me a breast substitution I paid for. (UPDATE REVIEW 1/10/22): Uber Eats order was old chicken, not spicy as ordered, greasy, watered down red beans/rice, missing breast substitutions I paid for and missing coleslaw. This is the 2nd bad online order I've gotten from this location. It's obvious that they don't deliver fresh chicken unless you happen to order when they have cooked it. Last time ordering delivery. Edit 6/1/24 THEY GAVE ME OLD CHICKEN THAT WASNT SPICY, check your bag guys.
Food was great! But a little messy in the store. Not to mention the area 😅
It's your typical city Popeyes - pretty grimy, usually pretty busy, but it gets the job done. I came at a pretty busy time of the evening on a weekday and I was in and out in about 25 minutes. The chicken and fries were tasty as usual for Popeyes. The sitting area is not exactly the cleanest, but for takeout purposes there really isn't anything to complain.
I went in to get two chicken wings and some fries and when I got home realized they had given me six. That's always a plus LOL. Plus the food was good hot and fresh. I've always had good experiences at this Popeyes.
This is a small facility with limited sitting areas. Parking is also limited since the disbanded Safeway conned all most the parking lot. Friend chicken burgers were excellent with crunchy skin with excellent price at 2 for $10. Please note: it's address is at Fillmore Street but the entrance to the facility is on the parking lot side.
I came in the other day ordered two chicken wings got home and had six so I was happy
Get your chicken and don’t expect service here. Spicy chicken breast awesome, don’t forget to order online with coupons and deals
I really love the concept of this restaurant, and there were some really great dishes, with a couple of misses. I think the hardest thing is not knowing what the dim sum options are in order to know what to order off of the main menu. In the end we ended up ordering about 4 dim sum plates and 2 off of the menu. Hands down the best bite was the trout … knocked my socks off. Awesome flavor and such a great sauce. Runner up was the pumpkin tofu with mushrooms in XO sauce. So unexpected … but the right spice level and umami. Buffalo cauliflower was a bit of a miss (too much breading). Overall a great experience.
I really wanted to enjoy the food but everything seemed like it was caked in oils and fats and ranch or Caesar dressing, so I was not a huge fan. The broccoli Caesar or the silken tofu for example. The trout dip was good but just tasted like ranch, garlic and tuna. The sesame oil on the persimmon tasted random and overall I just felt like no dish stood out and I probably should’ve ordered from the menu instead of just doing the dim sum aspect. Some of the cart servers felt a little too aloof and not super friendly so it was just awkward but our server himself was such a delight! I do not think I would return.
Loved the creative dim sum–style service with a modern twist! From the cart, the trout dip and duck lover mousse were both excellent — rich, flavorful, and beautifully presented. From the à la carte menu, the CA State Bird with Provisions totally lived up to the hype — crispy, juicy, and unique. The pork milanesa, though, was a bit underwhelming compared to everything else. Overall, a fun and memorable dining experience worth trying!
Interesting experience. If you had a choice between this and their sister restaurant, the progress, I would go to the progress. When we arrived, the first server was present and friendly. Shortly after, he was MIA. We had a server who was offering plates in dim sum style. We took some dishes from there but still didn’t know who to order from. The food, overall, was tasty but not as good compared to the sister restaurant.
Lovely dining experience but unfortunately the food left much to be desired. I’m not in a rush to come back. If I do, I’d only order from the trays and make sure to get bubbly drinks. Although they do take walk-ins, I’d recommend making reservations. + Interesting concept, though they no longer use dim sum carts and only had waiters going around with trays + Really great service and ambience. Sat at the bar and really enjoyed watching everyone cooking together and preparing the dishes for the trays. I dined solo but felt well cared for, and had a good time + Portion size was small, making it easy for sampling a variety of dishes. For items on the main menu, they allowed half portions (and even quarter portion for the pancakes). This was great for me as solo diner + Absolutely loved the Chèvre ice cream sandwich! The state bird and and liver mousse with financier were also quite good +/- Horchata was a bit too sweet, and definitely not a good pairing with all the food. Should have done some sort of sparkling drinks to help cleanse my palate +/- Also tried the oyster, duck dumpling, trout chip n’ dip. All of them were just fine. I’d probably skip them next time. The egg tofu was boring but it was a painfully needed lighter dish to cut the grease and heavy flavors of the other dishes - Food was rather one note. They were either overwhelming sour, or too salty, or too greasy. If this is only for 1-2 dishes, it’d have been fine. But it got boring and too heavy when all the dishes were like that. I’d prefer the food to be on the lighter, more delicate side. Options from both the main menu and trays were also mostly fried stuff - The fish stick was absolutely horrendous and super dry. The pancakes were underwhelming and I’d not order it again
I love the concept, though a bit problematic. You can expect from the menu what they would serve carted out of the kitchen, but the eyes can be hungrier than your stomach at times. You got full from the first few dimsum style serving that didn’t really do it for you and you wonder if the last few ones would have tasted better. Smaller serving maybe 🤷🏼♂️ Food presentation looked great, I just wish there was at least 1 dish that wowed me. Service and energy of the place were great 👍🏼
Fun experience with dim sum cart style dining. Service was great, staff were friendly. Small bites were good but not memorable: - Oysters: play of texture between the crunchy kohlrabi kraut and oyster - Smoked trout dip: good balance of acidity, savory, and creamy -Tofu and shiitake: loved the shiitake, tofu is bland - Cucumber and miso aioli: sesame chili oil cucumber with a creamy sauce - Peach and corn cream: the best most fragrant peach I’ve ever tasted - Lilikoi ribs: tart with a hint of spice sauce, tender lil riblets Menu items: - Whole wheat pancakes with heirloom tomatoes (1/2 order): chewy texture, on a denser side but combo works - Esquite shrimp toast (1/2 order): delish, right balance of flavors and texture - my fav out of all the small dishes - Hand cut noodles: perfect chewy noodles. Sauce is Sichuan inspired and interesting. Didn’t like the first bite but it grew on me. - Rendang Steak: A MUST. Thought this meal is a 3.5* until the steak. It blew me away - perfect medium rare, tender, and the sauce, herbs, crunchy rice combo was *chef’s kiss* - Corn ice cream sandwich: good but the pluot caramel sauce overpowered corn flavor - Peanut milk: liquid peanut but light and not dense like peanut butter A 4* meal because it was fun and the steak 👌
State Bird Provisions was a unique experience, although the price is high (over $60 per person) for the experience and food quality. The Californian Japanese fusion with a dim sum style in a cool, relaxed atmosphere. Could be great for friends but might not be the best choice for a date. It's a good idea to know what you want before hand and be patient waiting for the carts. Unfortunately for us, the guinea hen dumpling was missed. Likes: Scallop crudo: Fresh and tasty, with a spicy-sour sauce and blackberries. Desserts: Peanut milk with vanilla and the matcha cookie & cream. Steam egg tofu: A solid steamed egg dish with chili oil and pickled mushrooms. Dishes that didn't quite hit the mark: Fried quail: A little dry, even with the pumpkin seed crust. Pork belly salad: Not really a salad, more like two pieces of pork belly that were fried and needed more plums to cut the richness.

These people always want higher pay but can’t even do a simple task. I order 3pc chicken tenders with fries and sweet tea. How I end up with 3pc fried chicken with rice and beans. Where’s the biscuit?! Didn’t even give me my sweet tea. Then again it’s my fault for not checking my order before leaving, when I know these people are incompetent.
It is a very busy location so expect a few missing items in your order, which happened half of the time. The staff are usually doing their best to get the orders out.
Nice atmosphere but kind of dont get the hype. Some dishes were cool i liked " the bird "and " pork milanesa " were very unique and tasty but the rest were mediocre and pricey, it came out to $60+ per person for party of 4 and we didnt even leave full. The bird is a fried quail, perfectly crispy and memorable. Same with pork milanesa. The sauce that came with it was unique and paired nicely. I ordered the ice cream sandwich because of the reviews but its way too overwhelming taste like a lush bathbomb, none of the people at my table liked it. I couldn't even finish it. Highly do not recommend. Same with the pork belly with persimmon dish, super super salty and it was $16 for two tiny pieces of meat that feels like the dried up pieces at the end of kbbq that you don't want to finish. I love fish sauce but it taste like pure sodium. I dont recommend the duck liver with bread thing, i can't even describe the taste of that. Brioche bread was good and seemed freshly made. My party loved the chips but for $15 we agreed it kind of taste like sour cream and onion lays. Reservation is required. Even with reservations you have to wait a bit because it was a full house. The ambience is also really nice. Staff is pretty friendly and nice too. Nice concept but don't know if I'd come back. I recommend ordering mainly entrees from the menu not off the cart because those seemed more unique and better curated, if I'm going to fine dining might as well try things you don't usually eat with unique pairings than getting a bunch of random pricey appetizers that aren't that memorable.
Went out for a special celebration night with my wife, and I certainly hoped I would be able to provide it 5 stars and was very much looking forward to the experience. Unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. 1. The food was mostly “meh” or “it’s nice” but not spectacular. The cold tofu and mushroom from the tray made me want to throw up. 2. It was too crammed (with the person next to our table - which was placed just inches apart - was extremely loud and made the whole experience painful and unpleasant to endure). It is the restaurants choice to place tables in such an uncomfortable social way to generate $$, so I’d have to review that as responsibility of State Bird too.
Disappointed. Maybe I set my expectations too high, but all the food was alright. The drinks and pea milk dessert were delicious though. Drinks: - Yuzu Shiso soda - Domaine Balivet (sparkling chilled red wine) Food ranking 1. Pork belly: with Vietnamese fish sauce salad 2. Clams: good kefir lime leaf flavor (Thai flavors) 3. Dumplings: nothing Special but good sauce 4. Trout Dip: solid, but they CHARGED ME $3 for extra chips 5. Mushroom risotto: only warm item that we got. Solid. 6. Fried Fish sticks: good fish flavor, but nothing special 7. Rendang Steak: SALTY & CHEWY Overall it was cool food experience, but I wish they had served more hot dishes. On a cold December night, I’m not looking for cold or room temperature dishes. I don’t think there was a warm side dish or soup (did see that they had chawamushi, but it wasn’t on the rotating list). Good and professional service, but loud atmosphere (hard to hear).

It’s all hype. For a restaurant that is always booked and almost impossible to secure a reservation, we had really high expectations. As you walk in, the open kitchen looks great but after you are …
I got takeout from Popeyes using Uber Eats, expecting a super spicy and tasty meal. But, sadly, it didn't turn out as I hoped. I ordered 6 Ghost Pepper Wings and 8 Spicy Signature Chicken pieces, with coleslaw and a small Coca-Cola®. I was really looking forward to the spicy wings and chicken, but they weren't spicy at all. It felt like they forgot to add any spice. As someone who loves spicy food, it was a big disappointment. The 8-piece Spicy Signature Chicken wasn't as exciting as it sounds. It was dry and not very flavorful. I was hoping for a bold and tasty experience, but it didn't happen. Overall, the meal didn't live up to my expectations, and it left me wanting more flavor.
Food & staff are great but it's not a good place to have have a dining experience. The place, inside & outside, are filthy and littered with trash left behind by the kind of patrons they have in the area. Homeless & thugs come in & out and litter the place.
Food is decent, but the service is consistently terrible. I’ve been to this Popeyes on multiple occasions, and no one ever greets you when you walk in. I usually have to approach the counter to ask if my order is ready—and most of the time, it isn’t. After waiting an extended period, I’ll check again, and often the food has been sitting there ready with no one bothering to notify me. I’ve also had my order made incorrectly multiple times, so I now check my bag before even driving away. Parking lot is also a little sketchy and run down.
I generally do not ever leave comments but this was definitely one of the worst meals i’ve paid for in SF. To start off with dim sum style appetizers, hog island oysters with kraut was not good together. The kraut was too crunchy and too much on soft oysters which was overpowering in general. The pate is not very good, i think french butter would have been better with almond fancier. The “best” one was the handrolls and even that i didn’t understand other toppings with scallops. Just overall did not have any harmony with the ingredients. Regarding the “main” dishes we ordered state bird and the steak. The state bird chicken seemed a little undercooked and not worth $24 for 2 pieces of average fried chicken. Also the steak was tender for sure but was so salty i couldn’t taste the numbing sensation from sichuan peppercorn. I actually didn’t have high hopes and i genuinely felt robbed. Their drinks and water were very good.
The atmosphere is beautiful, and it was a pleasure to watch the chefs at work—the kitchen is spotless, and there’s clear attention to detail, especially in drink preparation. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience did not live up to the setting. Most dishes were overwhelmed by heavy sauces; one was unexpectedly very spicy; and the hand-cut noodles contained a large amount of cilantro that was neither noted on the menu nor explained when we ordered. There was little guidance from the host or server on what to expect from the dishes. When the server noticed we had barely touched the noodles—we explained that the dish was too spicy and that the heavy use of cilantro—an ingredient neither listed nor mentioned—made it difficult for us to eat. The response felt dismissive: the plate was taken away without apology or further explanation, as if the issue were our fault. Earlier, when food was delivered, the server forcefully cleared space at the table by clinking into my plate, causing my knife and fork to fall. There was no apology or attempt to help clean up. For a Michelin-recognized restaurant, this lack of attentiveness and courtesy made the service feel closer to a fast-casual operation. These small but important service moments ultimately overshadowed what could have been a strong meal. Overall, the execution of service did not match the quality of the space or the kitchen. For comparison, the restaurant next door delivers a noticeably better experience.
It was October 1st and we had a 5:30pm reservation at the patio. The food was actually so-so, our friend who took us there was also disappointed, you can hardly find any squid in a "charred squid…
The staff was extremely rude, and the service was unacceptably slow. I waited 45 minutes for a single order, and there was no communication or concern shown during the wait. Uber Eats and DoorDash drivers are also customers, but the staff treated drivers disrespectfully and acted unprofessionally. Overall, there was a clear lack of customer service and accountability. Very disappointing experience.
Ordered bigger box from DoorDash and it turned out to be a bad idea. Chicken was dry and tasteless. There was more wings to make up for 10 pieces so didn’t get the value for the money. Very disappointed.
I was over halfway through my 5 piece tender meal when I looked down and saw a ripped, blackened fingernail that had been underneath one of the tenders. I don't typically complain about food but this was disgusting and straight up a health violation. I've reached out to Popeyes for some kind of reimbursement, as my boyfriend and I got nauseous at the sight of this and did not want to finish the $30 worth of food we purchased.
