Cool spot for a late-night nibble with a friend or two! Not the biggest place so I wouldn’t recommend for a large group but maybe a group of 3-4 at most. I came here with high hopes to play games with my friend but not the best games selection tbh. Luckily I brought a deck of cards with me and we chose to play with those over any of the options there. This place would win so many more points if they stocked up on some better games! Also insider tip: bring 4 quarters to get 1 sticker out of the machine (pictured)! Food-wise… For my plant-based folks: if you’re looking for a hearty meal, I wouldn’t recommend this place but if you’re looking for smaller/lighter bites or just drinks, this place will still work for you. I got the veggie tacos and split a salad with my friend and they were good but not super filling. Luckily, there’s some dessert places nearby if you want to get something sweet afterwards (we went to Phillmore creamery and would recommend).

I always love coming to this place. The vibe inside is always amazing, the staffs are so kind, and has really pretty good drinks. The interior gives a really nice chill vibe to do some work in the afternoon with the brick walls, different seats styles, colorful pictures on the wall, blue leather wall, and more! I recommend the honey latte and bread pudding with whipped cream! I'm not sure if they change their bread pudding flavor but I got caramelized apples when I ordered. I love that it transforms into a completely different place at night with more drinks available on the menu! There are fun games available on the tables near the entrance where you can place as you wait for your order or play throughout your time there. I highly recommend this place!!

Amazing concept. Work and study during the day, but after 5pm no computer allowed. It's a cute place for work-life balance. Highly recommend whether you're just looking for a place to chill or hangout with friends. Or even read a book at a table by yourself on the nifty wall seats!

Get the purple rain! Super impressed by the bartenders working there. They hustle at the bar and handle the floor. Place has really cool vibes, excellent cocktails, and fair pricing. The music isn't too loud either which is great.

So I was strolling around Japantown and stumbled upon this cafe. Since I needed a caffeine fix, I decided to give it a try and ordered a cappuccino. The vibe of the place was awesome and the ambiance was on point. Although the cafe was pretty packed on a Saturday afternoon, I managed to grab a cute little table for myself. They also have bigger tables for groups if you need them. I loved the vintage decor on the walls - books, skateboards, and vinyls - it was a feast for the eyes! It was so chill just hanging out there and people-watching. Definitely planning to come back with a friend next time.

It was pretty nice. They have some weird timings for when orders end and laptops can't be on tables though. The neighbordhood is right by Japantown too. No table service though. It feels like a bar.

I really enjoyed this cozy bar near Japan town. There are books lining the walls, unique sexy music, a great selection of “beer-tails” and “wine-tales,” and movies Luke fantasia projected on the walls. You could enjoy a night at this bar by yourself. Not crowded— when we went on a Tuesday there were only two other tables. I got the lemon and apple wine-tales and thought they were good! My partner got the chicken salad sandwich for dinner, also delicious.

Great cute little place for drinks with friends. Cool and relaxed atmosphere, good music that's not too loud to hear the conversation, and great drinks selection including several local craft beers on tap and in bottle. Will definitely come back to experience the atmosphere during the day as well!

We stopped in for a drink on a Sunday afternoon. Great spot, nice atmosphere and very reasonable drink prices. The food looked good, but we were short on time. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.

Super chill place for a beer and/or some coffee. The beer selection is solid and I enjoyed the 2 beers that I had. My wife got a coffee and it was also quite good. The interior had plenty of seating, a cool look and some laid back music going. Definitely a spot I'd go back to.

Found this cafe totally by chance - absolutely love it! It has books lining the wall and a few board games that you can pick up. Good music, great coffee + chocolate chip cookies and some food/alcoholic beverage options too - definitely going back!

You tryna sip coffee in a hip n shnazzy spot? This place is the move my G’s! Take a ride to Social Study and plop into one of the most soothing vibes in the City. They got that “hey I’m a post-doc with a fat research grant vibe” going. Take a break from your busy SF life and load yourself up w caffeine! Major plus, you can grab just milk from em. I ain’t Mormon but hey does milk taste good when you’re cuddled up next to a book.

Awesome small business. Great place for a beer and a bite. The owner really cares about her place and the attention to detail and friendly service really show. The best hang out on my trip to sf.

My friend and I were going to go on a walk but it was too windy so we decided to come here instead. It was such a hidden gem tucked away on a quiet section of Geary street. This place is so perfect for a date or a small group get together. They have a great selection of wine and drinks. We didn’t try any food (maybe next time).

Cozy (brick walls, high ceiling), low-key, comfortable, dimly-lit bar/coffee house, reasonably priced, with a friendly, knowledgeable and helpful young bartender, that is open till 11pm(!) in The Fillmore. Mid-century films are beamed high up on one of the brick walls. The Social Study ceases serving coffee well before 11pm and they do not serve tea, so keep that in mind if a late night coffee is your goal. The bartender cheerfully served up hot lemon water in lieu of tea.

Nifty spot, quite small inside. The seats coming off the wall were unusable to me because the wall cushioning juts out so much

This place is described as a study area, but there are no outlets for computers. And the bar format is not exactly comfortable for studying. But that is neither here nor there, I had an unpleasant experience and I will not be coming back. When I attempted to charge my laptop in an area on the bar (away from any customers, mind you), the waitress in a passive aggressive manner told me it was not allowed. I went to charge my lap top in the front and that worked for the moment. My brother was going to order, and when he asked me, I said I did not want anything. The waitress heard me, and threateningly told us that if I did not order we would have to pay a hourly fee to study there. Keep in mind, this was 40 minutes before the curfew for laptops, the establishment was half empty, my brother had already agreed to order something, and I never implied I was not going to order at all, only that I did not want something in that moment. The unnecessary aggression was uncalled for. I told my brother to cancel his order and we left. I have no problem paying fees or ordering something, but the waitress' rude behavior made the experience of this place unnecessarily hostile and unwelcome. Edit: I appreciate the reply; I understand the logic behind needing customers to purchase things to keep the business open, I understand the hourly fee. I only ask that this policy is displayed more clearly so it's very unambiguous (perhaps I missed the signs? I was not in there long admittedly...). The google maps display is also deceptive, though, because the hours are displayed as the establishment closing at 11pm, which I believe unwittingly draws customers in who come in thinking the business is somewhere they can study until late. Generally, cafes in San Francisco seem to close early, so when they come into this place, they are bound to be upset when they find out the actual "study hours" end at 5 pm. Hopefully, you can find a way to communicate this through the limited interface on google maps. Or maybe you could also offer a list of cafes / establishments at the entrance or bar that accommodate people working/studying late upon entering the place. For anyone reading this, the Yemeni cafe maybe 20 or 30 minutes by foot away was where I ended up studying, and did not impose fees.

A bit noisy, so not the best spot for studying. Table is small. Probably better suited for casual chats. Service was average.

I wanted to like this place but especially for a venue only open from 1-5pm for laptop use, the experience as a whole just fell below my expectations. When I placed my order I waited over 15 minutes for something that was likely just scooped out from a pan, heated up, and came with a side of cream. This Strawberry Bread pudding tasted of mostly bread, lacked butter, possibly salt, made a barely noticeable custard, and the whipped topping served adjacent to it made it palatable considering I gassed $10 for it. Its more so as if they just forgot about me I dunno. The way the entire place is decked out in "Laptops prohibited after 5pm", the fact that all users were being shuttled out, the entire experience souring my liking of the joint instead of discouraging laptop use or better giving people a more relaxed cutoff, it felt extremely strict. Almost as a bad as having a strict parent taking away your device to go to bed. My appetite spoiled at the price/quality of my bread pudding and the atmosphere so I took off at that 5pm cutoff.
