Spiciest food in LA. Cumin lamb is terrific. But expect the worst service. If ur fine with that you'll love this place.

Love the food. Whenever I'm in LA, will definitely drive over for a meal.

my family is from Hunan and we love coming here when we miss home cooked food from our hometown. vibe is relaxed and warm, staff is super attentive and hardworking (e.g., always bringing water refills), and food is comforting and flavorful!! food is a little salty and may time a bit long if there are lots of people - but that means everything is made fresh !! we recommend the tudousi (matchstick potatoes), eggplant with pidan (century egg), and the spicy frog!! everything is great parking is also easy. highly recommend. thank you!!

What an authentic restaurant serving deliciously spicy food! My child’s favorites were the rice noodles and fried boiled eggs (金钱蛋). We really enjoyed the stir-fried pork with green peppers. The food is served quickly, and parking is always easy.

Such an absolutely lovely restaurant! Having to make periodic business trips to the Hunan region I was specifically craving food from that particular region - and they did not disappoint! A very very good experience in all aspects! Strongly recommend :)

The BEST Hunan restaurant I have ever been to in U.S. flavor wise. Many review mentioned about bad service or something, they are not wrong. If you care about “service”, go find yourself a Michelin star restaurant something. I would gladly wait one hour, pour my own water, get dish from the kitchen myself and sit on the floor outside and eat if they let me.

Every time I come to LA this restaurant is my go to no matter how out of the way it is, I will make sure that I will get to eat here. Seeing other reviews saying how they are just pure chilli or too spicy, I just don’t get it since “Chilli” is in its name so why even bother to leave a negative review talking about the Chilli. As for me, I came from Thailand and as you know we love our Chilli, and I am that person who would be satisfy just eating the well seasoned Chilli and rice as a meal. When I am here I usually get their frog pot which is amazing and if you are into frog that is a must order. You can never go wrong with their shredded potatoes or cabbage or any other veggie dish such as watercress to balance out your pallet with all the spices. Also I get the chicken bits in Chilli too, similar flavor profile as the frog pot but just different protein. Also the steamed egg is also a must get as well. Their portions never disappoint since they will give you plenty of it. Ever since I had hunan back in 2014 when I got to LA, their food remains consistent and a heaven for spicy lovers like me.

I came here for the first time around 6.30pm for diner...the place was already packed..so I needed to wait for 15 mins outside the resto bfr getting a table... We ordered achoi veggies Sautee with garlic, fried fish with chili and omelet also with chili... The portions are enough for 4 people and they are delicious.

One of the most authentic if not the best Hunan Restaurant around. Are the dishes spicy? Yes, even if you ask them to reduce the spiciness level because that's how the dish is made! Are they super authentic? Yes! The sauteed frog, chicken liver, fried bacon with lettuce, water spinach, special rice noodle 9, and fish tofu soup were spot on with great wok smokiness. Service is fast. The atmosphere is lively. The new spot is way smaller than their previous restaurant so there may be a wait.

Coming the culinary desert (where Chinese dishes have small portions with higher prices and many are pre-made), we really like the food here. The dishes are delicious; we've been eating here for three consecutive days after 1-h drive everyday and want to take some back! No service is fine as the food itself is really great.

It’s not much service here. But the food is awesome! Specially if you enjoy spicy food. We needed to wait for the table when we arrived around 6pm. To me, good food, affordable price, clean place 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Real spicy food that I crave. The menu has tons of options and photos for each dish to help you choose easier. I loved the fact that food came exactly the way it looked on the menu - no more “for illustration purposes only.” Also, long line alerts and they speak Mandarine mainly

If you are looking for a location with spicy food, this is the spot to go! They are one of my favourite Chinese restaurant that makes me sweat as I eat. My favourite dish is the spicy fish and the tofu one. The spice added to the fish gives it a rich flavour. The tofu on the other hand is so silky and soft. My dad the outside is tofu and the egg is inside, but nonetheless it is so delicious. Depending on the time frame, it can get packed!! For my bday, I came here at 6PM and there was at least 20 people waiting outside. It look about 30-40 minutes to be seated for us. Keep in mind I came at dinner time so it was expected to be crowded. Parking is free, and the lot is huge. If you don’t find spot in the parking lot, just drive to the market parking next lot. However you should be fine since their lot is pretty decent.

Very authentic spicy Hunan cuisine! I don't eat very spicy, but I still enjoyed trying some of the spicy chicken and pork and bean curd dishes. The non spicy eggplant dish and non spicy seaweed pork bone soup are my personal favorites!

The food is absolutely authentic. It brings me to home immediately when I taste it. They stay with quality and authentic food as always. They tried their best to serve every guest needs even they are very popular and busy. While you dinning there. Sometimes you see the chefs and staff come out to having their dinner together. It’s just great atmosphere. Always come back

Their dishes are delicious. But too many people and very noisy. My friends and I need to shout to hear each other. In addition, their waiters are obviously a little less, and they often have to be ask they several times.

Love the food here, feels authentic. The food here is mostly spicy but not just hot. Packed with flavors and they use some good combinations of chilies and oil. The egg dish is our favorite. Expect a wait on the weekends. You get unlimited rice with your entrees. Service is fast.

Food is honestly good, my party had the pork with taro, fried eggs, and some sort of fish with some sauce. (I’ve forgotten the names, apologies.) Feels authentic, tastes authentic, especially with the amount of oil I saw in some of the broths and such (This is normalized, especially with me who had a bunch of Asian food with a lot of oil in it) You can tell it’s ran by people who actually know their food, with all the other customers as well. My favorite was the pork with taro, reminds me so much of my aunty’s cooking. Will say that when it’s busy, the waiting is annoying and that it’s kind of crowded and a bit stuffy. Service was actually not bad with how they refilled our water, but honestly don’t expect too much service. Atmosphere was hectic and crowded, which I didn’t really like, but also kind of liked because it felt similar to things I was used to growing up as a little kid. Overall recommend. Just don’t go here for something fancy or like a date or something. I also will say the food here is pretty spicy, just a warning.

Our company recently had a team lunch at Hunan Chilliking, located in San Gabriel city, in the same plaza as Yifang Fruit Tea, this restaurant promises an authentic taste of Hunan cuisine. Firstly, I must address the parking situation, which proved to be a bit of a challenge. The parking lot is small, and at times, finding a spot can be quite a task. So, carpooling or arriving early might be a good idea, especially for larger groups. For those in our team who aren't accustomed to spicy food, it was crucial to have the dishes adjusted to their liking. Without moderating the spiciness, some found the heat a bit overwhelming. However, the staff was accommodating and happy to modify the spice levels, ensuring everyone could enjoy their meal. Now, onto the highlight of the lunch - the steamed egg (non-spicy)! This dish was an absolute winner, and we couldn't get enough of its velvety smoothness and mouthwatering taste. One thing that stood out throughout the meal was the masterful execution of every dish. Each plate was skillfully stir-fried, resulting in an irresistible aroma that instantly stimulated our appetites. The flavors were top-notch, making it hard to resist going back for seconds (and even thirds!).

As a non-native LAX, the food is solid. In comparison to Vancouver and Houston, it was on par for solid Chinese food. Their pork with chili dish was average. Fine for $22. Their potato dish was fine — 3 star. Their white rice, 3 star. But their water spinach, although different from Cantonese style, I actually enjoyed it. Service? We ordered the fish and later they realized that they didn’t cook it. But it was plenty of food for 2 people (with 3 dishes) so we didn’t care either way so skipped it. Meal $60-plus tip for 2 people. Overall, I can see why the average score is a 3.4 star but for me, I simply rounded up.

The food taste really good. The size of the restaurant is too small. The service is on average

R
Rongrong Hu

The service was absolutely terrible. We ordered a set menu, but they didn’t even bother to bring out the last dish until we asked for the check. Their excuse? “Oh, I’m sorry, we’re busy tonight.” No effort to fix it—just handed us the last dish to take home. Unacceptable.

K

As a person from Changsha(major city in Hunan), I can tell you this is not Hunan flavor at all, it’s like normal and general spicy style restaurants. Also I think it’s below average, meat is not fresh.

K
KJ Luo

Decent flavors I'll give them that, but I don't recommend this place for two reasons: A) No service and very long wait. Their workflow obviously needs improvement. B) 10% ~ 20% more expensive than other comparable SGV joints, but the portions were rather small. You know the owners are stingy people when a stir fried dish consists of <20% tiny bits of meat that's supposed to be the main ingredient.

This restaurant is often referred to as one of the Sichuan spots in the LA area. We ordered two dishes: Spicy Beef and Eggplant with Peppers. The eggplant was below our expectations, and the spicy beef was just okay. However, the biggest issue was the customer service. We had to wait over 30 minutes for our second dish, and looking around, we noticed many other diners were in the same situation and unhappy. The root of the problem seems to be that the restaurant prioritizes take-out orders over dine-in customers. Based on previous reviews, this appears to be a long-standing issue, and we experienced it firsthand. The restaurant seems indifferent to customers’ long waits or complaints. There are plenty of other excellent Sichuan restaurants in the area, and we would advise against this one.

Super salty. I am from Hunan Changsha and I can tell you that the quality of this restaurant is average. Price is getting higher. The vibe of the place is old school with rural style simple design but that appearance is hard to justify the menu price. For Hunan dishes, I’d recommend the one on Colima in Rowland Heights.

The waiter asked for a cash tip but didn't provide any service. The food was just average and the prices were high. Not recommended.

S
Sophia Cheng (Sophia)

The worst service in the world, no service and no one will pour water for you. If there is a table, you have to wait outside. They won't apologize for if you eat hair and bugs in dishes, and they won't change dishes for you. Is this waitress the boss? If she is the boss, I hope your store will close down early. The food tastes bad, there is no service, and there is a mandatory tip. Is this the culture of your store? Don't come unless you want to get angry.

S
Suki Lu

Called for take out, they told me it'll be ready in 30 mins, I showed up after 30 mins and they said it's not ready yet, so I had to wait another 40 mins for my food to be ready! Not mentioning how expensive they are, they used to be so much better back in the old days. 🙁

We have been to this restaurant many times. The food is good, but the service is horrible and is getting worse. Last month, we dined there. One popular dish we ordered was intentionally not served for 1 hour until we finished our lunch. They kept serving other people who arrived much later than us to make them happy. Apparently we got 3 dishes so we should keep waiting. This was really annoying!! They ignored our demand to serve our dish and treated us very rude. We were not happy and left them a few tips. Then we found out they charged us much more than we signed on our bill. They were stealers!! I was a fan of this restaurant and went there almost 1-2 times every month. Now I would never go to this restaurant. There are many other similar options. They are not honest and very rude!

H
H T

Their dine-in service is very poor, and they do not respect their customers at all. Some staff here is extremely arrogant and rude. This restaurant did not have a digital recorded waitlist system or a written down form. Their waitlist is totally random. Some waiters see you come first and give you a number to wait, but later when some other waiters come and ask for the next table, they do not follow that assigned number. They blindly say others come first even though they may not. Because of this chaotic service, some customers take advantage of this nature and just directly jump in line. Restaurant ignore this behavior, and they just keep you waiting, only till you feel annoyed and they start getting aware of you actually come first. This restaurant is crowded since their food come out very slow, so if you enjoy jumping in line, or if you don’t mind others keep jumping in line, and you can bear the fact that the restaurant does not honor their preassigned waitlist ticket to you, please feel free to go there. The restaurant management should do something about this, instead of pushing away responsibilities. When business gets popular and crowded, it is necessary to keep the service organized. We used to order from this restaurant often, both take-out and dine-in. Food always come out very slow, but the taste is authentic and fine. Do take out or delivery if you really want to try it out, their bad service and attitude might downgrade the dining experience. I hope this review will not get removed, as I clearly stated my authentic experience. The way that they operate this restaurant and treat their customers is a huge, warning red flag. It is super ill-mannered and discourteous with no respect.

Lots of insect all over the place. And they have a health ranking of A? Seriously?

Y

I chose this one simply because I came from Hunan, but totally horrible experience. I hope I could give them a negative star. I wait them for more than one hour and the employee had the lunch first but asked me to pay the money right when I came to the restaurant. If they told me they would want to have their lunch first, I would not pay for it. All the employees have a very bad attitude. Do not go there if u have any choices.
