El local muy acogedor, el servicio fantástico y la comida espectacular. Pedimos el menú degustación y nos encantó. Fue todo un descubrimiento pero seguro que si volvemos a San Sebastián será el primer sitio en reservar.

What can be said of this restaurant? For some, Donostia will be all about the Michelin Stars and the Instagram pics - Pollitena gives you another Donostia, one totally charming, reasonably priced, and unflashily delicious. You enter from downstairs, having walked past the door and handwritten menu because it’s easy to miss, and then realise the restaurant is upstairs. It’s quaint. Everyone else there was Spanish/Basque and the staff speak very little English - although they’re only too happy to try to help you as you bungle your way to ordering. The Señora doesn’t so much take your order as command you to eat the best things: paella, fish - all amazing. But there is steak and chips too (an unprepossessingly slim bit of meat but tender and pink, perfect for lunch) and even battered fish. You can have a starter, main, and a dessert with - not a glass - a BOTTLE of good local white wine (between two) for €26. Other tables had a more elaborate and also delicious set menu which we admired. This restaurant was distinctly friendly and scandalously cheap compared with the rest of the city. Brush up on a little Spanish and get there soon!

We just wandered up the stairs to this restaurant with no expectations, and it is like walking into someone’s living room, but the food was delicious and plentiful and the service excellent. There were very few eating while we were there but at €26 for three courses (our starters - tuna salad, soup, and very good pasta with mushrooms including bonus gambas, then hake, a steak and delicious beef stew, followed by a grand choice of homely desserts, together with wine and bread thrown in), it deserves to be busier. Go try it, it’s old fashioned and quirky because of that.

Don't come here if you're looking for the latest trends or innovative cuisine. But if you want to find out what Basque people eat at home, this is your place. You won't be disappointed. First-floor entrance; you have to go up one flight of stairs.

This was really a great find. Clean and simply decorated, the food though was absolutely wonderful. I recommend the menu dégustation, which came with 2 starters, 2 mains and a selection of desserts, as well as the wine of choice. Great value, all the food was well prepared and service was warm and friendly! We especially enjoyed the beef in pastry with pâté sauce - expertly prepared. I’ll be happy to visit again.

I've been here four or five times now, and each time it has been wonderful. Izaskun - the lady in charge - is lovely, and runs a great team that ensure the dinners run smoothly and are delicious, with everyone feeling comfortable and having a great time. I've had both the menu del noche (19 euros) and menu de degustacion (30), with both being great quality for their price. If you're looking for a cozy atmosphere where you can eat traditional Basque food, this is the place!

The menu del dia at this restaurant is a good selection and excellent value! Considering the other establishments in the area it’s about a 30% of their prices.

Estuvimos en septiembre comiendo el menú y la comida estaba buena y las cantidades eran correctas. Entiendo que para ser fin de semana y la parte antigua de San Sebastián el precio es razonable.

Restaurante a la entrada de lo viejo desde el boulevard, un cartel en la fachada de lo indica pero no lo verás desde la propia calle ya que está en el primer piso del portal. Capacidad para unas 20 personas en un mismo servicio. Según entras te das cuenta de ser de esos sitios "de siempre", de los que han dado de comer durante décadas. Nos decidimos por el menú degustación para dos personas. Los pimientos rellenos de changurro, deliciosos (uno por persona queda escaso la verdad). La merluza muy bien cocinada y buena calidad de producto. El resto de platos muy bien pero destacamos esos dos. Buen servicio y atención por parte de su dueña. Ese día la madre estaba comiendo también con algún familiar, y se notó su deformación profesional al "intentar" echar una mano. Lo dicho, un sitio que te traslada a una comida y trato familiar.

Hemos probado el menú degustación y la verdad que, aunque al principio parecía que iba a ser poca comida, al acabar nos hemos quedado satisfechos. El solomillo estaba buenísimo y el postre también. Hay que reservar, ya que es un local pequeñito y con pocas mesas. El servicio muy correcto y atento.

Local en el primer piso de un edificio de la parte vieja donostiarra, tras entrar en un portal y subir las escaleras, al entrar en el comedor parece entraras en una casa. Local curioso por esto mismo, lleno, puede ser incómodo, las camareras no tienen mucho espacio. En cuanto a la comida fuimos a menú degustación. En general me gustó todo. No me gustó el formato ‘todo a compartir’ 1) plato de jamón. ‘Para 4’ y vienen 5 lonchas. Para mi esto es un fallo. El jamón rico. 2) pimientos rellenos de txangurro. Plato al medio, un pimiento por persona. Rico. 3) merluza pollitena. Plato al medio, un buen trozo por persona. Muy rica. Lo que más me gustó. 4) solomillo en hojaldre con salsa de foie. Rico. Uno para cada dos. La camarera puede partírtelo y servirlo .. o no. 5) degustación de tartas al medio. En cada plato venían distintas. Podía tocarte tarta de manzana o no, de queso o no. En cualquier caso a ninguno nos gustaron. La tarta de manzana estaba quemada además. Eso no se debe servir. Vino de la casa incluido en el menú. Espantoso. El peor que he bebido en años. Puedes tener un vino muy barato infinitamente mejor que ese. Pide sidra. No volvería.

Great food. Cozy restaurant, with only around 10 tables. €18 for the menu of the day which includes two dishes, dessert and a bottle of cider or wine for the table. Friendly and attentive staff. Worked hard to accommodate us with our toddler, who loved the fish soup - as did I! Only downside is the accessibility, it's up a flight and a half of stairs, we lugged our pushchair up and down, the friendly wait staff did offer to help. I highly recommend it as long as you're okay going up and downstairs.

It's a 3 course meal with options per course. And the menu changes daily - we called in advance to inquire. I'm a vegetarian and the staff made recommendations for my meal and switched order of the dishes, but I would've appreciated more protein in my first course salad and more flavor to my second course (although adding some salt and pepper did trick!). We all enjoyed the dessert - see the image of of the apple dessert! I enjoyed the cake with chocolate drizzle. It was a quaint cute restaurant on the second floor of a building is the main pedestrian road. A great find!

Fuimos a cenar un viernes por la noche un grupo. La sensación general fue un poco fría con respecto a lo que esperábamos. La comida estaba buena y el servicio fue atento a la hora de atendernos. Es curioso que el restaurante está en un primer piso y se accede por el portal. Lo que no vimos acorde fueron los vinos que acompañaban al menú. No estaban acordes al precio del menú degustación. Lo que estaba más rico era el pescado sin ninguna duda.

La comida tenía buen sabor, la atención al principio muy mal! A la hora de pagar un engaño, pedimos un menú degustación que se supone es para dos personas con porciones diminutas y a la hora de pagar cobran por persona. Las cosas claras y precios

El sábado tuvimos comida familiar. Tomamos el menú. Jamón de Bellota , bellota del chino, pimiento relleno , merluza congelada y solomillo con hojaldre, correcto. Vino incluido del barato . Todo muy escaso. Terminamos y nos fuimos a comer algo. Por 80€ la pareja se separa algo más. No volveré y no lo recomendaría a nadie. Para no ir.

Something was seriously wrong with the dinner service on Monday night. Food was absolutely terrible. Hake was tasteless. Beef was so raw and uneatable. Desserts were like some leftover pastries. Wine tasted like some grapefruit juice. Stay away!
