I am visiting from Camarillo I was hungry and glad I asked google what was around me. I seen amazing reviews of "The Hat" and I figured id stop in for some lunch. Man I got to tell you this was the best Double Chili Cheeseburger ive ever had and the fries are amazing! Id drive all the way over here anytime !!!! Trust me stop on by and treat yourself !!!
Awesome pastrami dip (large). I also ordered the additional "dipping juice" in a separate container, which pushed the taste over the top. The menu offers many different types of sub/sandwiches, all handmade to your desired taste. And they do not hold back on ingredients! Fast, friendly service, and a large super clean indoor eating area and outdoor seating too. Handicap friendly and large free parking. Thank you 'The Hat' for providing outstanding service. God Bless, Debra, Bella and Chance.
The Hat in Simi Valley is an absolute gem! This classic spot at 1308 E. Los Angeles Ave has been delivering that old-school, hearty American comfort food vibe since the chain started back in 1951, and the Simi location nails it every time. I went for the **world-famous pastrami dip**—piled high with tender, juicy pastrami on a soft roll, dipped in rich au jus—and it did not disappoint. The meat was perfectly seasoned, not too fatty, and the bread held up beautifully without getting soggy. Paired it with their legendary chili cheese fries, which were loaded, crispy on the outside, and ridiculously addictive. Portions are generous (we easily shared one sandwich and a small fries between two people and still had leftovers), and everything came out hot and fresh. The service is quick and friendly—counter ordering keeps things moving, even when it's busy. Love the retro diner feel inside too; it's casual, no-fuss, and perfect for a quick lunch or takeout. Prices are fair for the quality and amount of food you get. If you're in Simi Valley and craving a satisfying, no-nonsense sandwich (or just great fries), The Hat is a must-try. Easily one of the best spots in town—I'll definitely be back soon! 5 stars all the way.
Whenever I visit Simi I HAVE to come get my pastrami dip here. In my opinion, the best on the planet. This time I had the chili cheese fries. My grandson told me to try them. One word. HUGE! Also, very good!
🍔 The Star: Pastrami Sandwich From the very first bite, the pastrami sandwich delivers. The meat is thinly sliced, juicy and flavourful, piled high on fresh bread — the kind of sandwich you’re going to remember. Many guests describe it as one of the best pastrami sandwiches they’ve had. It hits that sweet spot of nostalgia and real deli-style craft. 🍟 Crowd Favourite: Chili Cheese Fries Pair that sandwich with their chili cheese fries and you’re in for a treat. The serving is generous and the fries are loaded with toppings — a perfect complement to the main. Multiple reviews call the fries “massive” and “incredibly good”, which makes them ideal for sharing. 💰 Value & Portion Size One thing that really impressed: you don’t feel like you’re overpaying for mediocrity. The Hat manages to offer large portions and satisfying quality at a price that feels fair for what you’re getting. As one reviewer said: “For what you’re getting, the value is solid.” 👍 Service & Atmosphere While the setting is casual (counter ordering, quick service), the staff are described as friendly and efficient. The place doesn’t try to over-dress itself; it leans into being straightforward, unpretentious, and comfortable. One visitor noted that it felt “clean, welcoming, and old-school in the best way.” If I were to sum it up: The Hat in Simi Valley nails exactly what it sets out to do. Great pastrami, outstanding chili cheese fries, solid value, and good service. Whether you’re stopping by solo or sharing with friends, this is a spot that delivers satisfying, no-frills food done well.
The Hat makes me nostalgic for a time I never knew. Looking into the history, The Hat started in roughly the same geographical place and time as McDonald's - and I almost wonder if it's what would have happened if Ray Kroc never got involved with the Big M. The Hat evokes a sense of pride in quality ingredients, service, and community. A small menu, but one that's been done the same way for a long time. A dependable eatery that stands firm and won't bow down to corporate pressure. And I like that. Yeah, it's just fast food. But it's fast food with purpose. And I think that's something everyone could appreciate these days.
Amazing classic fast food with fresh and tasty food! The interior is very cozy and very very clean! All burgers and sandwiches cooking freshly everyday 😋 They also have a drive through! And they work until 11:00 p.m. which is super nice! Highly recommended! This is not a regular chain restaurant but this is much better!
As a deli lover from way back, I was blown away by the authenticity of The Hat, especially the pastrami sandwich! Also, their onion rings are exceptional. We try to eat there at least once a month. See below for their menu items that I recommend. We have never had a bad experience at The Hat, whether we’re dining in or to go.
My friends wanted to stop by here for early dinner. This location is near my work office so I just stayed a little at work and my friends drove from the valley to join me here to eat. I found parking easily when I came because they were not busy at all. I arrived first so I went to put in my order because I didn't know how long it would take. After looking at their menu, I decided to go with their turkey sandwich, added American cheese which is an extra cost, got a small French fries and a small drink. My food actually didn't take long to be ready but it does cost more than other fast food places. They give you a decent amount of fries and the sandwich is a decent size. The inside of this place is spacious and will make you feel like you went back in time because the setup is like albeing in the 80s. My friends joined and put in their order. They mostly got the pastrami sandwiches and the chili cheese fries with pastrami. The portion that they give for the fries with pastrami is huge and it make sense because it cost close to an entree meal. I thought my turkey sandwich was good especially with their buttermilk ranch that you can ask for and the fries I think just needed a little more seasoning. My friends enjoy their pastrami sandwich along with the fries as well.
What a delicious Pastrami Dip Sandwich! We ended up sharing 1 sandwich for 2 people because it was massive! So delicious especially with the aus jus dip. Best Pastrami Dip Sandwich in Ventura County, hands down! We also got a small fry which was massive! We couldn’t even finish half of the fries because there was so many. Think we spent around 20$ and it was easily enough for 2 people. What a great deal! It is one of the go to places of Simi Valley. Very clean and old school type of spot which you don’t really see around anymore. Love this place! Highly recommend the Pastrami Cheese Burger which I didn’t end up getting this time but that burger is absolutely delicious as well!
Love the Hat! For the price it's good value and very tasty. Had the pastrami sandwich, onion rings , a side of chili , and the Orange bang. All of it very good. Would definitely recommend!

This place was amazing! The food was delicious and REALLY good for what its price is. The service is extremely nice too. The 50's like ambiance here shows the oldness and tradition like In-N-Out.

It's been quite awhile since I've had the opportunity to dine at "The Hat", so when we were going to be close by anyway it seemed like the logical choice! After getting to the front of the line I decided to keep it simple and just ordered a Pastrami Sandwich and a drink. I also picked up one of their 70th anniversary T-Shirts because why not? Behind the counter looked clean ans did the dining area. The sandwich was as good as I remembered, I may not be able to come back for awhile but at least I'll have that T-Shirt to keep the memory alive!
What has happened to the food here. My husband and I came for lunch and the sourdough bread was impossible to chew and our onion rings were overcooked. The quality has suffered!

Tried both the famous Pastrami Dip and the Steak Sandwich at this place. The Pastrami Dip? Solid choice—tasty, satisfying, and big enough to feed a small village. But that Steak Sandwich? Yikes. For $12.60 plus tax, I expected at least some steak, not a salad pretending to be a sandwich. It was basically a shredded lettuce wrap with a few lonely onions and four paper-thin slices of overcooked, mystery-grade steak. I’ve seen more meat on a toothpick. Customer service was like flipping a coin. First visit, around 9 PM, I was greeted by a kind older gentleman who brought my food with a smile and even asked if I needed condiments—what a guy! Second visit, 10 AM, I got the tall younger dude who acted like I asked for gold when I politely requested some free peppers and chili. All this while I sat there mourning the worst steak sandwich of my life. So yeah, two visits, two wildly different experiences. It's like dining at two separate restaurants that accidentally share a building

Don't come when they are closing. We waited 15 min for our food in the drive thru and came to a surprising pubic hair in our chili fries as a gift.

Very unsatisfied Drove across town to find them closed They are open late list And they Closed at 9:45
I've been going to the Hat since I was a little girl and I am now 67 years old. For years they've always been my go-to place for a pastrami. But I live out by Palm Springs and there isn't one so I went to the Simi Valley location when I was visiting my daughter and the amount of meat they put in the sandwich was very minimal. I remember there being so much meat in a sandwich even a few years ago that you could actually make a whole another sandwich from it. I have been to this one about 2 years ago and the meat was like it always has been very overabundant not sure if they were having an off day but there certainly wasn't much on my sandwich
