Avis sur Texas 1809 Slaton
We visited for lunch on Banana Festival Day. They were extremely busy. Our waiter was working hard to keep up. Until, he had a very rude lady walk out without paying her full bill. She claimed to be a first responder and she didn't have time to wait. Shame on her for stiffing the young waiter!
Went in on a Monday night. It was slow but that’s not a problem. Service was prompt and polite. Our food was delicious. The owners came in and over to our table. We’d ordered something they were out of and they explained the situation then made us a to go order of something similar for free to apologize. Such fantastic service.
We stopped overnight in this little town and a quick Google search for local eateries led us to Texas 1809. It’s a small restaurant and the bar is definitely popular with the locals. Atmosphere: it’s a little worn and loud but not unbearably so. The restaurant was clean. There were USB charging ports at each booth which was a surprise. Food: the menu had everything from steaks, salmon, burgers/sandwiches, and German specialties. We ordered an 8oz sirloin with German potato salad and red cabbage, country fried steak with green beans and mushrooms, jager schnitzel with mac -n- cheese and mushrooms, and wood fired grilled chicken with mixed veggies and German potato salad. All of the meats were cooked perfectly, flavorful, and not dry. The sides were hit and miss. The cabbage, green beans and mushrooms were under seasoned, which was disappointing considering the proteins were so well seasoned and cooked. The German potato salad had a nice tang and was fairly close to what we’ve had on our travels in Germany. The veggies were nicely seasoned and grilled. The Mac-n-cheese received no complaints from my daughter. We also ordered fried pickles which were delightfully crispy and not heavily breaded. The house made ranch was also good. We ordered a slice of chocolate cake to share for a sweet finish. Three out of four of us enjoyed the almost mug-cake like fudgy texture. Service: We had great service. We were seated promptly and the server was attentive without hovering. Additionally, our food came out in a timely manner and everything was at the correct temperature. Overall, Texas 1809 exceeded our expectations. Definitely swing by for a meal if you are ever in Slaton!
Man you better pull up, my cousin is cooking now so if you know country boys we can cook, Courtney however, he's next level. The owners are great people, family people, hard working respectable folks. If you're on highway 84, or hell if you live within a 100 mile radius get your but in the car, take the family and tip well, you won't be disappointed! Slaton has a jewel with this place and I hope they never sell, but hey that's none of my business. Texas 1809 is a place you must try at least 5 times 😁
Being from Germany I was very curious about the German food that was served here. We were pleasantly surprised, the schnitzel was spot on as was the red cabbage. Cudos to the cook!!! The price was very reasonable and the service was outstanding. Desiree is a delight, fast and super friendly, that is what good customer service looks like!!!! We came all the way from Carlsbad NM just to try this place. Texas 1809 did not disappoint, we will be back!!
My wife and I decided date night would be a short drive to eat at Texas 1809. We had heard good things and we had seen good reviews. We went the weekend before Valentines and we were worried they might be very busy. We walked in and were seated immediately. We had a fantastic waitress. She was excellent and on the spot. We ordered the pretzel for an appetizer. It was great. We really enjoyed it. Note, it was big and we wished we had skipped it just because we were too stuffed after the appetizer and the entree. My wife ordered the Schnitzel and I had the chicken fried steak. The Schnitzel was excellent. The sides were good and my chicken fry was very good and it was not small either. The sweet tea was just like my Momma made at home too. We will be back. Great waitress, great food and it was well worth that short drive.
Small cafe with a big menu! Seating on the inside and outside. It's well worth the wait. The service here is so kind and the food is so good! Right outside Lubbock, TX is a hidden gem! A must try!
Friends, if you’re ever in Slaton stop in to Texas 1809 for some of the best food and atmosphere in the area. We ordered the sausage plate with German potato salad and green beans and the chicken fried chicken. The food is amazing as is the ice tea. This place has a great atmosphere that’s family friendly and we also watched Texas/Ohio game! Shout out to Dylan for taking great care of us. A great place to relax and enjoy.
My first time ever eating here, I dined in. The food was extremely delicious and well prepared. Presented with excellent customer service, to include very good prices. So I Came back the next day for take out. I'd recommend it with 5 🌟 's for the food, atmosphere and service.
Love this place! Small town feel, great food, even better service & company! Drinks are fantastic. We have a great time every time we go. REALLY love the outdoor area for warmer weather. It’s nice to not have to force the kids to sit down when they want to play before or after we eat. Owners & family are awesome. We go every chance we get.
I got the Texas Schnitzel and it was absolutely amazing. It was made fresh and they added extra jalapenos. Will definitely recommend to people looking for German food.
German pretzel, beer, wings, schnitzel, chicken friend steak - all awesome!
The food was delicious and as close to home cooking as you can get. My oh my that chicken fry, and the pineapple, jalapeño margarita *chef's kiss*! Our server, Emery, was an absolute doll. The drive to Slaton is well worth it!
This place is a hidden gem, that I've never heard of. I've been to Slaton so many times, but rarely get off the Interstate. I will forever take this detour now to enjoy another amazing steak!
Today was our first time here. Lisa was our waitress today and she was phenomenal! Very friendly, and made sure our drinks stayed full and even recommended some really good food! We will definitely be back soon.
Lunch at Texas 1809 in Slaton, Texas, a welcoming local restaurant known for generous portions and classic Texas‑German flavors. Texas 1809 Restaurant in Slaton, Texas offered a relaxed, rustic atmosphere paired with outstanding, authentic German cuisine. The Jägerschnitzel instantly transported me back to the gasthaus I frequented years ago while stationed overseas in Germany. Kaitlin was delightful—her recommendations were spot on, and she seemed to appear at just the right moments to ensure we fully enjoyed our luncheon. Truly exceptional food and service from start to finish. Ask for Kaitlin
Chicken Fried Steak was cooked perfectly, the pretzels and jalapeño poppers were a heavenly appetizer. Customers service and atmosphere was top notch. Must stop if your anywhere near the beautiful small town of Slaton
This is a memory of homemade cooking, so much food and hospitality. Food Hot delicious with so much flavor. A hidden treasure. 10-15 mins away from Lubbock. Slaton tx. Beer was ice cold, waitresses so awesome and knowledgeable about the menu. Will definitely be back. Very clean with cell phone charger ports.
We chose this restaurant because I had never had a schnitzel before & have seen them in german street food videos on YouTube. So I ordered the Jaggerschnitzel, which was topped with a traditional mushroom gravy & I really enjoyed it! I think it was a bit overdone because the breading was slightly burnt but I have never had one so I don't know if that was intentional or not 🤔 My sides were the mac n chz & sauerkraut, which both were great! My husband had the Ribeye (medium) with a side salad & the loaded mashed potatoes. Salad was really good it was not just a boring side salad & the loaded mashed potatoes were really yummy!!! His steak was definitely rare not medium (it was blue) & it was really chewy. I imagine the chewiness came from not being cooked long enough. (He is a firm believer in not sending anything back unless the kitchen is in full view, for those wondering why he didn't send it back.) But the pretzel.... CHEESE AND RICE that dang PRETZEL!!!! Just so so yummy!! I gave atmosphere a 4-star because we really couldn't even enjoy our meal due to the unbelievable amount of flies. I know something like flies can't be controlled but geez have someone grab a fly swatter & start killing the 15 flies that were at the front door at least. (And for this saying they don't want dead fly guts in their food, that's why I said for them to just kill them by the door because it's far from any tables.) If it wasn't for the flies the atmosphere would have absolutely been 5 stars because it is just really cozy and so cute in there! Just the exact definition of a small town mom and pop local joint that several have tried to recreate in movies. Service!! If I could give service 357 stars I would! 😀 We will be back because I want to try other things on the menu & of course I'll have the pretzel again! I do recommend you go try this restaurant because it was worth the 1 hour drive for us to get there 😉
Damn fine chicken fried steak! Thick and the breading and gravy were excellent. Pairs well with a Shiner. Nice location with decent beer selection and good food. Will be back next time Im coming through.
What a nice surprise in Slaton, Texas. Friendly staff, casual atmosphere and delicious food. We ordered chicken fried steak and grilled pork chops, served piping hot and scrumptious. Nice beer garden with live music on Saturdays. Will definitely make a trip back there
The best local restaurant I have ever been to. Food is delicious and never fails to excite, Staff are wonderful, and the live music is awesome! My favorite dish would have to be the fried catfish fillet with sidewinder fries & German potato salad with some Yuenglings, Texas mule and/or Texas water! Definitely recommend to check this place out for yourself, I am 100% sure you won't regret!
This place was phenomenal! I personally don’t live in Slaton, but making the ~20 mile commute from Lubbock is easily worth it for this food! They have daily specials and a lunch menu with good variety. I had the cheeseburger and it was among the best restaurant burgers I’ve had in a long time! On top of it all, the staff could not have been friendlier - they made us feel welcome and did a terrific job taking care of us.
We are here at the beginning of our 2 week trip on our way out of Texas. It was so good, we planned our last stop on the way home in the same town so we could eat here again. Hands down the best burger I have ever had, the chocolate cake and banana pudding are amazing too!
We discovered this place last year and it has been a favorite ever since. We drive in from Lubbock just for breakfast or lunch and walking around the square. Very friendly staff and delicious food. On our most recent trip, we had breakfast. We both had the West Texas omelette and it’s incredible! Their Texas Pecan coffee is also mouthwatering! We will keep coming back here again and again and again!
Food was amazing! I had the Ribeye, it was cooked to perfection. My wife had the chicken fried steak and it was the best I've ever had! Can't wait to go back. Definitely worth the 30 min drive.

Second visit here. First visit was great. Delicious food. Traditional southern dishes plus authentic German dishes too. This time, ordered from Oak Wood Fire Grill section of menu, grilled pork chop. Upon tasting, it wasn’t wood fire grilled at all. It was simply pan fried. Spoke with waiter about it who immediately offered to replace the order with something else, which we eventually did. Received an unsolicited visit from the mgr., also. She was very nice about it and admitted that this problem has happened before. The other dishes we ordered were all delicious, including the desserts. (The German red cabbage is killer good.) Recommend giving Texas 1809 a try next time you’re in Slaton. Just confirm the wood grill is working before ordering.
Texas 1809 in Slaton serves up a solid fusion of Texas comfort and German tradition—mostly. I ordered the Jäeger Schnitzel and the wife went with the Chicken Fried Steak—a tale of two gravies, and both were winners. The schnitzel was well done, with a rich mushroom gravy that hit the mark. The chicken fried steak? Solid. And the white gravy was a standout—thick, peppery, and exactly what it should be. Where things went off the rails was the German sidecar: The sauerkraut was begging for caraway seeds—none to be found. The red cabbage had no sweetness or balance—just red and vinegary. The potato salad was warm but way too heavy on the vinegar, with no creamy or mustard-style sauce to save it. That said, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere felt right—rustic charm with small-town hospitality. A good stop, but I'd skip the German sides next time and enjoy the vibe.
Nice restaurant. Food was all really good. Could actually improve on the "German potato salad" But the rest was really good. Atmosphere was basic, they do have outside seating too. Service was ok. Our server worked hard to take care of our 16 party group being her first big table.
Not bad at all. I love German style cooking but it did have just a tad much vinegar. All in all was very tasty tho. Will definitely go back to try mote from the menu.

I wish the drinks were stronger. I also thought my schnitzel came with a dill cream sauce, but it did not. My sautéed mushrooms were good, but I found the loaded mashed potatoes dry. Our waitress was very friendly and extremely attentive. I am willing to give it a second chance.
The food was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was awesome I love seeing management touching tables but wait staff was so so. Food came out fast and hot.
We came here for my nieces birthday. She wanted a really good chicken fry. This was rated as the best place on Lubbock Foodies, so we gave it a try. She really enjoyed her meal. I had the steak fingers and okra. They were very yummy. My kiddo had the grilled cheese and enjoyed it. Kids also ate free that day , so that was a plus. My husband had the sausage bites. He said the were ok. The service was really good. We had a large party and they were accommodating. If you go I recommend the steak fingers!

The young man that was waiting our table was very respectful. The best thing that we ordered was the jalapeño poppers every thing else was okay. Atmosphere wasn't very inviting and welcoming on my visit.
German food was not as authentic as I thought it would be. 3 people got American dishes that was good 3 of us got German dishes and it was so so. The entertainment was great "All about Alice" . We also ordered the banana pudding it was over cooked or not mixed well very grainy. Flavor was there but texture was not got!!
Food was delicious. BUT, the price on the menu is different from what they would charged you in the end. The ticket charged you a few dollars extra. Was told by employee would need to check with her boss about the price difference but didn’t sound like the restaurant wanted to make the changes on the ticket. Make sure you check your ticket.
30.00 14 ounce ribeye was disappointing. The chicken fry was a tad tough and very thick. The good : The steak was cooked to perfection. The not so good: Lacked flavor no seasoning at all even though the1809 seasoning was requested it was very bland. The food sat in the back for a bit as the waitress was the only one working phones, take out and tables, so the food came cool. Kept hearing the bell ring over and over and we were the only ones waiting on food it was 11ish. You would think the folks in back would have ran her food for her to keep it from getting cold or at the least reheat. Sides were pretty cold. Hard to eat cold mashed potatoes. Would have liked a refill to finish up our food but she had several things going at once. Not a huge deal breaker there. We Took a mini day trip just for this lunch and to try the 30.00 dollar ribeye knew it was going to be pricey. Spent close to 100.00 for lunch for two this included a 12 tip. We don't mind dropping a bill on lunch but expectations are high with that price tag for lunch. Even though it didn't meet the expectation this visit we will return eventually to try a burger. The pretzel and cheese saved the experience. It was the best thing we had (unfortunately). I don't know if my suggestion matters but I'm going to leave it anyway. The 1809 seasoning if it is meant to be very bland a description or explanation of that would be nice so one could request the steak be more seasoned. It's a pricey steak it should be extremely good. You expect to leave saying "Worth it" The chicken fry needs to be flattened some so it will lend a more tender bite. When ever I order the basic chicken fried steak and it comes looking like a thick ball of breaded meat it's instant regret. I did read reviews before taking the trip and the pics of the chicken fry looked alot different than what was brought to me so maybe we showed up on a bad cook day. I did include a pic of my plate. One thing I found odd was the half piece of toast on my plate lol to me that's just lazy take the toast off all together rather than serve someone a half a piece of bread lol. Ahwell Nevertheless we will be back to try a burger eventually.
I want to like this restaurant because it's a locally owned small business. I visted over the weekend. Our server had part of his long hair hanging in his face, with the rest pulled back. That's a huge turn-off for someone who will handle my food. After waiting 30 minutes for our order (a burger and a side of Reuben fries), we called him over to ask how much longer, as we saw parties who were seated after us who had already gotten their food (and the restaurant was not full). Our server spent a minute or two on the computer, checked with the kitchen, then came back and told us "about 2 minutes". He returned with food shortly after. The burger was lukewarm. The fries that came with the burger were cold. The Reuben fries were warm from the topping, but the fries were cold. We shared the burger and left the rest of the food there. There was no apology for the delay. When he brought the check, including after running the credit card, there was no conversation from the server. We would have expected an apology for the delay, a word of gratitude for coming in, etc. Nothing. I sincerely hope this was a one-off day and I can visit again and retract this 3* review.
First time to Texas 1809. Ordered the pretzel/beer cheese and was told it would be pretzel bites instead. There was a ton of them! They tasted great, although the garlic butter on the outside made it hard for the beer cheese to stick. I ordered the Weinerschnitzel, german potato salad and green beans. The Weinerschnizel was fantastic! Perfect crunch on the outside and tender/juicy on the inside. I had to ask for lemons twice because they did bring enough. The green beans had pieces of bacon and tasted good. The german potato salad was not something I had ever seen before....chunks of potatoes in some dark liquid and WAY to Salty. Didn't take more than 2 bites and left it alone. My husband said the same thing and he likes more salt than I do. Service was not bad, our server came around to see if we needed anything about 20 times. Granted they were slow on a Saturday night, but was a bit excessive. Over all, good experience and will return in the future.
Well I went there. For the first time on a Sunday for an hour lunch break got off 15 minutes early. To go try this place. Got there. At 11:50. I didn't get to order until 12:30p.m. by the time I got my plate and my kids plate it was almost 2 p.m. I liked it. But because of them my time for lunch break went over. I am hoping my boss doesn't fire my for going to lunch and going over the time frame because they chose take that long. But the food was great. But the time frame to get it took to long. Shoot I even ordered desert. It was Great.

Waitresses were nice. The food was mediocre but it was so loud :( turn the teles down a bit, struggling to hear my bros :(
Overpriced bar food with too many missing menu items and incompetent service. It's obvious this place is propped up by local fanboys with more dollars than sense. The server returned twice in 20 minutes to inform us that our items were no longer available. This pushed our wait time to 80 minutes before our food was ready on a moderately busy evening. Our mixed drinks were served with ZERO alcohol and fortunately they agreed to refund us the drinks after I politely brought this to their attention. I stuck to beers after that sad experience. Our food was too greasy, oversalted and not worthy of being advertised with German attributes in any way. Slaton deserves better than this. Please train your staff better, paricularly knowing what items are either low on inventory or gone before taking a customer's order, don't cheat the alcohol, and step up the food quality! Response to owner: We ate there on Mother's Day, 2025.
