My Fiancee and I were on a cross country trip of the United States because my fiancee is going blind and she wanted to see the country before her eyesight is completely gone.We stayed at the motel 6 that is connected to Windmill Restraunt. We ate there before we left for our next destination. Just want to say that the food was delicious but more importantly a big shout out to the waitress who was so kind to my fiancee and the owner who gave us free souvenir s. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers. We are back home in Michigan now but our hearts remain with you. What pleasant world this would be if only there was more people in like you. God bless each every member of your staff it was truly an experience we will never forget. You truly are what this crazy world needs more of. Hope to see you all again. You really touched our hearts.
I was in Soledad for 3 nights. Once I ate at the Windmill, I never went anywhere else! Great food, polite and wonderful staff, and great atmosphere! Highly recommend!
We were on a road trip from San Jose down to Paso Robles and stopped here for lunch. The food portions are huge, the food was delicious all around and the staff super friendly. The menu had a large variety but everything they made came out perfect. Very impressive to have a large menu and do everything to high quality. We enjoyed it so much we came again on our way home and had just as great experience the second time.
This is the best restaurant ever. All of the staff were wonderful but our waitress was exceptional! I only wish I got her name to give her a shout-out! She gave us some complimentary food after the kitchen ran out of something we ordered. She was very nice and really went out of her way to make sure our meal was good and our belly's full. The prices are good and the portions large and tasty. Grade A service! Thank you so much!!! This restaurant is the perfect reason to stop in Soledad.
Food was good , we came here for lunch and dinner. The raspberry vinaigrette is amazing salad dressing
Okay. The steak I ordered was cooked more than I asked for, and the mashed potatoes had more garlic in it than my (very Italian) spaghetti sauce. But it was very tasty. The server was very nice, but slow. She never checked to see if our food was satisfactory, and never refilled my husband's drink. But overall, we were satisfied.
My girlfriend and have been I a couple times for breakfast and it was very good .so we decided to stop in for dinner on the way home from monterrey the waiter was awesome very professional but our meals where amazing one of the best burgers I've ever had and my girlfriends seafood pasta was to die for. we definitely will be going back on out trips to see her son and grand baby
I had the best ever huevos rancheros! Their secret is homemade salsas which are distinctive and full of flavor. Their refried beans were also very good and the tortillas were mega fresh.
Stopped on our way south on 101. Right off the freeway, convenient, quick, friendly service, reasonable prices, and pretty good food, generous servings.
We got a seafood pasta daily special and the Gilroy chicken sandwich and really enjoyed both! The portions are large and the service is super friendly. Marlene gave us great recommendations and stopped by the table the perfect amount! I'll definitely be coming back.
Very clean, well run, modern diner. Staff is friendly and seem to be happy which counts for a lot. Food is nothing special, but if you're looking for a place with a lot of choice on your road trip, this is a nice alternative to all the taquerias around here.
What a surprise for a weary traveler to find this gem along the roadside. Really exceeded my expections. I can see why this place is so busy. Because the food, service, and atmosphere are all wonderful. Look forward to dinning here again. And the staff is wholly committed to making the visit go well. I really enjoyed everyones company while there.
My husband's windmill chicken sandwich was absolutely amazing! I got Bella's Pasta, which would have been amazing if it wasn't room temperature. Honestly, the experience was a 3 or 4 star rating to me, but my husband told me to do 5 stars because he loved his meal so much. The reason why I wanted to give a lower score was because our waitress disappeared. Someone else ended up bussing our table and I was waiting for a long time to order the raspberry cheesecake (which is really good). Another waitress came and asked if we needed anything and normally I would say no because someone else is waiting on us and I didn't want to add to her responsibilities, but I was still hungry and really wanted my dessert. Good thing I didn't wait because our waitress never came back. Also, while we waited to pay for the check, we ended up giving up and walking to the front to pay. I made sure to have my wallet out so they didn't think we were dining and dashing, but the moment we got close to the front a different waitress said, "Are you ready to close out?" Um... yes. For awhile now. Also, while we were dining in, another table of patrons was speaking down to the male server. This has nothing to do with the restaurant, but I felt bad for the guy and it just makes me so irritated when people treat people so crappy when they are just trying to serve you.
Placed a takeout order tonight.... the staff was super friendly, we told them we were gluten free so they gave us some options. We had the half rack of ribs with a baked potato and a house special burger for our son (who's not gf) Those Ribs were AMAZING! Tender and flavorful, our sons burger was huge and he got garlic fries. He said it was really great and fell in love with the fries 🙌🙌
While in business in the Monterey-Salinas, CA area, I decided to stop by a place one of my colleagues had told me about, The Windmill Restaurant. Adjacent to the Motel 6 in Soledad, CA, right off of Hwy 101, the front of house, service and food here I found to be superb. Despite having daily specials in front of me, I opted for a freshly tossed green salad and for lunch I dined on the Chicken scallopini which was divine. Ice cold beer on tap, and delicious local wine(Monterey county is known as growing one of the best grapes around for wine), and a superb selection of freshly made berry and apple pies! Give this wonderful establishment a try if you happen to be driving through! Enjoy!
From the moment we walked in the ambiance was outstanding, the server welcomed us with a great smile, AMAZING delicious fresh food! The chefs A+, clean environment... Best choice for breakfast, a rewarding decision!
Good restaurant, amazing food, service and music. I recommend this place :)
Great restaurant we did find on our way to marina. Great food, traditional American kitchen, well prepared. Did have BLTs which were very tasty and absolutely fresh. My wife did have fish and chips which were amazing. Place was clean - even though the restroom could get more attention to lift this entire place to the next level. Pricing was good! Will come again. Great and friendly staffing, thanks for this great dinner.

This unassuming place greatly surpassed my expectations. The food is tasty and the service was above and beyond. The place is very clean and the noise level is just right so that you can hear each other talk.
We were very impressed not only with the service (thank you Evelyn), but the food was exceptional. We both got the specials. Mine was the lemon rosemary chicken with veggies and garlic mashed potatoes. Unbelievably good. The chicken was well infused with lemon and rosemary and was moist and juicy. Husband had New York strip and shrimp with veggies, a large baked potato, French bread a side salad. All were delicious. Be sure to save room for dessert as the vanilla ice cream is very vanilla. The peach pie was quite good.
Stopped in on Sunday lunch time. The place was buzzing! Good atmosphere. I had the huevos rancheras which was great and the service was fantastic. I don't know if I ever gave a place five stars before!
Stopped here on our way to Santa Barbara. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. They made a custom pasta for me based on my description which was delicious, and the veggie burger was pretty good too! Decently priced and generous portions. Service was top notch! Will definitely stop by here in the future if in the area. Another plus for us- the Tesla supercharger is just a 2 min walk!
We came upon this delightful restaurant purely by chance. We are so glad we tried it out. The manager explained the type and style of steaks and how it ought to be cooked and it encouraged me to try a steak without asking for it to be well done. First time in my life. It was cooked just right and oh so perfect. For the charge of the dinner, the plates are huge. Good variety to choose from and some nice cocktails as well. It made our special dinner, quite special. Will be back again for sure!
Very relaxing atmosphere. Nicely remodeled and very clean. Ordered the steak sandwich and not only was it good but the steak was huge! Put the size of the bun to shame. And ohhhhh those garlic fries! Bravo, Windmill, bravo!

Place is nice, even nicer inside. It has a beautiful painting of a farm, the Windmill Restaurant sign and a mountain back draft. Very nice and attentive server. She recommended the Windjamer Breakfast Sample and Linguica Skillet so we ordered them. Serving size is ample. Room for improvement would be the Linguica Skillet is a little salty for my taste. Hot chocolate is good with whip cream topping. It's a gem in this nice, quiet town of Soledad. We want to come back again and try their other offerings.
Good food. Good price. After hiking Pinnacles, it was exactly what we needed. The restaurant is clean. The staff is very friendly. If I am in the area, I will go again. In front of Motel 6. It was an impulse move to eat before driving back and the Windmill Restaurant exceeded expectations.
While on a road trip driving from Morro Bay to San Francisco, we decided to stop for lunch in Soledad. This restaurant popped up and was a nice little find. It’s conveniently located right off the freeway, next to gas stations and practically attached to a Motel 6. I imagine that being nice and convenient for their guests. The menu had a variety of classic American fair, including breakfast served till noon, a nice lunch menu, and dinner as well. Looks like the bar served beer and wine, not sure about cocktails. I decided on lunch and got the BLT with avocado - always a nice surprise when the avocado is included already. The bacon was cooked perfectly and was quite a generous portion in the sandwich. I opted to get fresh fruit as a side and it was also a nice pleasant surprise when it was a variety of freshly cut whole fruit - not just a little fruit cup like I was expecting. My husband got the French roast beef dip. It was also a generous portion and while the Au jus was a little salty for me, it was definitely a nice sandwich. He chose fries as his side, and they were actually very tasty. Again, more than I was expecting from a little road stop diner in a small town. The interior of the restaurant, as well as the restrooms, were modern, nice and clean. It was a medium size, so it felt friendly and comfortable. I was expecting slightly lower prices, but for the convenience and the quality of food it was still well worth it.
Today's review from your very own foody critic and backyard chef is about The Windmill Restaurant in Soledad, Ca. I love good food and quality service !! I am not affiliated with anyone at this restaurant and this is just my personal experience. First off walking in here we noticed it was very clean, tables wiped down, silverware placed and ready for customers. Waitress had a smile and seated us right away and got all our drinks. It was a bit noisy from a family with a few rambunctious kids being kids, but after they left, it was very quiet and tolerable. We haven't been here for about a year and thought we would give it a try again. During Covid, everything lacked quality, customer service and satisfaction. Today the food was absolutely delicious, prices $$$ as all places these days were a little high, with most burgers and pasta plates starting around $15.00-$25.00. I'm good with price as long as my experience is worth the expense. The owner (Jose) is opening another Windmill Restaurant I hear in Salinas, Ca. coming soon. The servers were very nice and very attentive, something that lacks nowadays. Waitress kept glasses full and checked on us if we needed anything. If you're in the area, give this place a try, well worth it and you'll leave feeling satisfied and amazed that little hole in the walls still exist with great folks and food. This place does some Italian, Mexican and American plates. Huge portions. You won't be disappointed, I gave this 4 Stars for noise and prices, but I assure you, it really is 5 Stars for the area.
Picked this spot on our road trip back to home. The burgers were tasty and cooked the way I like them. The onion rings are actually exactly my favorite kind and just as good. It's a little pricey for what I was expecting but not outrageous. The burger meat was definitely quality beef. Overall it's a nice spot to stop in, stretch your legs, and have a big bite off the highway that isn't a chain or fast food fly-by :) Wish I had gotten here in time for their breakfast menu- it looked great.

The food was good though I asked for medium rare and my burger was definitely under done. I can't complain too much because the food was good. Service could of been better. Very sweet girl though didn't ask if everything was ok and didn't offer a refill on my drink. There were only 3 other customers. She didn't check in on anyone. The restaurant was clean.

This was a lovely restaurant i attended with my partner yesterday. The food was good and i enjoyed the setting very well. Although it was something quite nice in the moment, it quickly turned into a not so comfortable atmosphere with what seemed to be a worker there who already had the experience and a new employee. The guy there had been explaining something to the lady since they seemed to be on some sort of device, later on the guy seemed very aggravated and raised his voice at the lady making backhanded comments towards her in which i picked up. Something along the lines with her vision and if she had a problem seeing she should get her glasses in a very unprofessional and unmannered way. Making me and my partner feel extremely uncomfortable, we could obviously feel the lingering reactions and emotions of the people there.
Serves Harris Ranch steaks; they were well prepared. Ribs were dry and over cooked, but we were late arrivals, and it was close to closing. Waitress staff was friendly but very forgetful. Vegetables were properly cooked and not soggy.
Summary: Need 25+ mins wait at door to take out one piece of cake. So on first night of our long weekend trip we stayed somewhere close and saw they have amazing dessert menu. My husband really crave for hot apple pie in a cold night so we decided to walk in and ok to wait there for the order. However, first it took 10 mins for us to get to pay for it, and another 10 mins to get informed there is no apple pie available. Then they took a few more mins to pack my other cake that is visible in the counter in front of me (the manager said the waitress is working on it, later the waitress asked me do I need any other help, I said I am still waiting for my cake, and apparently it was packed and put somewhere and nobody gave to me). Anyway this is a specific dessert walk in & take out experience. Really hope it could be a lot easier with better communication. The cake is not bad, but the wait time made it not worth it.

I got a supreme enchilada with chicken. It came with chips greasy beans and no flavor at all. Our waitress was okay I asked questions if they had alcohol and said they don’t do open bar only wine and beer. Every question I asked I felt dismissed especially with the facial expression she made after I asked. My son got the cheeseburger on the kids menu. Tasted to salty and he didn’t like it. 4/10 wouldn’t come back

I was disappointed it looks really nice inside and comfortable but the food was disappointing and service was the worst wouldn't recommend at all food has no flavor i would honestly prefer to eat Taco Bell don't really like leaving reviews but for this one I had too. Never coming back again
The food was terrible. Came with my family thinking we were going to get a good meal. The sangria just tasted like red wine loaded with fruit. I got the V's the broccoli was brown and looked like it was days old, the seafood was questionable and tasted off. We didn't have napkins or silverware after the kids meals were served for 15 minutes. Overall would not recommend.
no one to answer the phone and a lot of the food isn’t really good lol. a few examples; the big sur is boring and the jalapeño poppers were disgusting. place is pricey too.
