Avis sur Dumpling Empire South San Francisco
Hands down the best soup dumplings in the Bay! No line quick service, also gave us free tea and sesame balls for dessert. Underrated
Incredible fresh handmade dumplings; I’m not normally a fan of lamb dumplings and these were delicious. Dumpling skin was the perfect thickness and balanced beautifully with the generous fillings. Fast service and reasonable prices. Recommend if in south San Francisco or as a stop after the airport! Plus they give complimentary sesame balls with red bean paste - nice touch!
No frills, but delicious dumplings. Dined here twice during my extended stay in South San Francisco. Place is a little hole in the wall, mom and pop shop. Dumplings are amazing!!! We were treated to complimentary sesame balls each night, which was a treat! Won ton noodle soup was a hit with our table. Tried almost every du.pling on the menu and they were all fresh and meaty. Also really enjoyed the green onion pancake.
Excellent dumpling restaurant discovered after shopping at Costco. It was only 2.3 miles away and we were hungry and tired of the ubiquitous hot dogs at Costco. The restaurant is just off grand Ave in South San Francisco and outside was four overflowing garbage cans which was not exactly a great endorsement of their atmosphere. But we persisted and ordered the beef noodles, Shanghai dumplings, pork dumplings with corn and the chive pancakes. They were all very good but the siu lung baos were really outstanding as were the pork dumplings. The pancakes were a bit loose but had a lot of fillings which is good. Service was fine and even the cook brought out one of our dishes. Plates came out quickly and soon the place was filled! Yes, they serve food on plastic and paper which was kinda dumb but if you can ignore that, it’s a very good restaurant.
Very simple little place tucked into a little side street off of Grand Ave. Decided to check it out after seeing good reviews—we got pan fried soup dumplings, beef pancake, garlic string beans and chicken chow mein. Owner surprised us with fried sesame balls filled with either a bean paste or black sesame seed paste—absolutely delicious. My favorite dish was the beef pancake—the Chinese black vinegar on the table was an amazing addition to its flavor! Everything was delicious and my leftovers were happily devoured at work the next day. Other reviews refer to this place as a hidden gem and they are absolutely correct. Will be ordering from here and dining in again soon.
Such a hidden gem. You know the food is going to be good when they serve you with take out boxes and lids. Came here countless times last year. My default order are their lamb dumplings, pork and chive dumplings, pan fried soup dumplings, beef pancake, and their garlic string beans!!! Nearing the end of our meal, the table next to us was raving about how good the Grilled chicken fried rice was and ofc I couldn't help to order it too. Honestly it was just okay. Nothing too special imo. But their house made (?) hot sauce on the other hand.. is very unique. Right when you sit down, you'll see a bright orange container screaming at you. Highly recommend trying. It's very different from the typical hot sauce you get from restaurants. This one has a different kick. Very pleasant taste and spice. Make sure to pair it with their black vinegar too. Service is consistently pretty good. They're attentive and efficient. They speak mainly mando and also English. Seating is limited. Maybe around 8 tables that can seat 4 each. Lunch time is usually the busiest time. Overall, highly recommend!! 01.01.2024 | Monday @2:30pm
I've been here multiple times over the years and I can definitely say it's one of my favorite dumping shops. Located on a side street right off Grand Ave in South San Francisco, this little hole in the wall spot is definitely unassuming. The menu is actually pretty extensive, and there's probably something for everyone. Here are my go-tos and absolute favorites: • Cold Wide Bean Noodles - super garlicky and chewy mung bean noodles with cucumber slices. It's a nice refreshing dish. • Marinated pork elbow • Pig Ears • Pork Dumpling with Napa Cabbage • Lamb Dumplings • Mustard Green Noodle Soup They do also have frozen dumplings that you can take to go and make at home.
Little hole in the wall. Food was delicious. Small family owned business vibe. I could see the woman making the dumplings from my table. And walked through the kitchen to use the restroom. Probably not the best customer service but you come here for the good food. So good I ate here twice during my stay in SF
Excellent place to get good filling dumplings. It really is a hole in the wall kind of place, nothing fancy at all. But it was packed when we were there. Still, we got our food quickly. It was hot and tasty. We got the green onion pancakes, pork and chive dumplings, and pan fried soup dumplings. There is a little parking across the street and a little more around the corner with parking meters (it was free when we were there on Sunday evening. ) All the entrees were about 6-9 dollars. Our three choices filled up two people and cost about $23. Not bad! Would go again.
We ordered a few dishes. My favorite is the hot and sour soup, sour, spicy, flavorful, lots of tofu, shiitake mushrooms, golden needle. Beef noodle soup seems to have mala spice, not my typical beef noodle soup, didn’t enjoy it much, though I liked the hand pull noodle texture! Soup dumplings skin a bit thick and pork was not as tasty. No shredded ginger which I thought it’s a must for soup dumplings?
We happened upon the Empire while on a trip to SF. We love to dive the streets looking for places off the beaten path. This place was great, a little hole in the wall with wonderful food. Nothing elaborate but fresh dumplings, fresh cooked vegetables and hot tea. We dined in the first night and got a to go order the second. Very satisfying, tasty meals. I would take friends here to enjoy the experience. I’m not Asian so there was bit of a language barrier but to me that’s what makes the experience even better, not really knowing what’s going to show up on the plate.
Our order: Pork and cabbage dumplings (lighter color dumplings) Pork and chive dumplings (darker color dumplings) Garlic string beans Salt and pepper chicken wings Good: Dumplings. This place has my favorite dumplings in the area. The skin has a nice chewy texture and pork filling very tasty. String beans, sautéed with preserved garlic and soy, were good but a little stringy. Subsequent visit was fine. 😀 Meh: Chicken wings. The flavor was good but a little on the dry side. But we did order again on a subsequent visit. Bad: Use of disposable plates and utensils. Serving plates are to-go containers and place setting are paper plates and disposable chopsticks. Hope they will bring back the real stuff soon. Also, set your expectations appropriately. There's only 1 person working front of house who manages to-go orders, tables, seating, cleanup, etc. So be patient during the dinner rush, she's moving fast!
First timer. Tried 6 dishes. Pork dumplings, chive and pork dumplings, beef pancake, chive pancake, beef chowfun and wonton with wide noodles. The dumplings were good, the two pancakes were tasty, the beef chowfun wasn't to fond of, and the wonton soup was kinda bland. Overall, I would come again and try more of the menu selections.
I'm a fan of giving every small business I visit the benefit of the doubt - that being said, Dumpling Empire was just not it. My family and I decided to try something new on Grand Avenue and we stumbled upon Dumpling Empire on the south end of Grand Avenue and decided to try it out. The decor is simple, if not a bit run down. Simple chairs and tables and well worn everything else. Its a far cry from 5-star service but I found it quite home-y. The biggest problem I had with Dumpling Empire was with....its Dumplings. We ordered several steamed dumplings and were provided paper plates that I saw at Target just a few hours ago. I dont know about you, but wet food and paper plates dont necessarily mix well. Additionally, there was a fly in the soup of one of the dumplings that I was going to eat.
