This place was fabulous. I had the pork belly starter, and duck confit. They were so yummy. It server Dillion was great. Everyone enjoyed their food. The steak and salmon were cooked perfectly. The lemon cheesecake was so creamy and perfect. We are so glad we chose to eat here, It did not disappoint!

I visited Maldaner's for lunch twice during a recent trip to Illinois, and had terrific food both times. The service was helpful, professional and attentive. My sister told me to try the horseshoe sandwich, which originated in the area. It was humongous (even the smaller version, "ponyshoe" was huge), but delicious. The vegetarian version had loads of fresh, grilled veggies, topped with welsh rarebit, topped with several inches of French fries. The second time, I wisely ordered the Vegetable Stir Fry with green tea rice as recommended by my server. It was absolutely delicious. There were also several other tempting vegetarian options.

Fine dining. Good service. Prices are reasonable for what you get. The chef/owner gets produce from the Farmer's Market which makes the dishes exceptional. I highly recommend it. It is a Springfield historical establishment.

Nice quaint setting with an upscale feel. Enjoyed the Duck Confit which was cooked very nicely, juicy, tender, perfectly rendered fat. The chicken two ways was also delicious and full of flavor. The outdoor seating was very nice, especially tonight for the 100th Anniversary Route 66 car show. Worth the stop. No reservations required.

This restaurant has it all...location, history, delicious food, and refined service. I ordered the warm goat cheese salad and loved the combination of cheese, beets, and cranberries. For my entree, I had a Chilean sea bass with cherry tomatoes over a bed of arugula and a daikon/turnip puree. The flavors were amazing. Even though I was feeling a bit full, I made room for a seasonal crisp with peaches and blueberries, which was heavenly. The service was efficient and friendly with a refined air that you see in upscale restaurants. It was a real treat!

We had a wonderful meal! I loved my prime rib and martini

Service was prompt and friendly, food was delicious. We ordered the heirloom tomato appetizer, which was fresh and delicious. We also got Pork Osso Bucco and the crab cake, both of which were amazing. The crab cake came as a single large cake with massive crab chunks, perfectly cooked. Everything we got was delectable as usual, been coming here for quite a while and have never been disappointed.

It's been a couple of years since I've been here but the Salmon Salad was just as good as I remember! It includes a hoisin sauce and under the bed of leafy greens are noodles. I think they changed the noodles from the last time I was there. I miss the old ones but the salad is still delicious. The service was fast and the price was fair.

One of the best Route 66 restaurants. We have traveled extensively along Route 66 from Chicago to Arizona and this is by far one of the best. It is pricier than many of the other restaurants but it is vastly superior in so many ways including service and quality of food. The traditional "horseshoe" is outstanding and the cheese sauce is freshly made. Don't skip this place if you are driving Route 66 and passing through Springfield, IL.

Good food and friendly service. A great place to meet up with friends. They have a great Beyond Burger which made my vegetarian heart sing. Lovely atmosphere. Long tradition of happy diners. Since 1870's.

We had the nicest luncheon yesterday upstairs. Jesse and Danni took wonderful care of us and were each so very pleasant. I had the Korean Fried Chicken sandwich OMG it was superb! All of our group was very pleased. Thanks so much!

I'm not from Springfield, so it has been years since I've eaten here. The atmosphere hasn't changed- still class! The food is still fantastic (outstanding Onion Soup and tasty Beef Wellington). And the service is great- formal and friendly. Springfield should be proud.

Enjoyed a really nice breakfast buffet this morning, feet scrambled eggs, sausage links, bacon, cheese blintz, coffee, orange juice, pastries. This is a beautiful historic location serving freshly prepared upscale gourmet foods. Totally enjoyed this experience. Yes I recommend Maldaners.

Wonderful place and food. Superior atmosphere. A beautiful Italian Moscato with ribeye and wellington for dinner served by a very nice young man and super waiter named Bryant. Ask for him when you go. Happy Halloween everyone!

I went on a date here last weekend and it was a fantastic experience! The decor and atmosphere was wonderful, our waitress was great, and the food was delicious. They were super busy, but our waitress still took the time to find some ibuprofen for my date's headache and light our candle when we accidentally blew it out. All in all a great night!

We've dined here numerous times, and it's always excellent. My wife ordered the heirloom tomato salad, and it was so good I ordered one as well after my entree: fresh and richly flavorful. She had a mushroom risotto, and I had beef Wellington (medium rare); both were cooked perfectly. And of course, the Queen of Sheba cake for desert. There's no such thing as too much chocolate or too rich. We ate outside which was delightful. The server was outstanding. A perfect anniversary dinner.

Very nice place and most of the guests were dressed up because they knew they were going someplace special. The staff is friendly and helpful. Maldaner's is serious about using fresh and locally obtained ingredients for their dishes, so much so that the owner himself (I understand) picked the morel mushrooms that went into the Morel Pie. If you like mushrooms and especially morels you will understand how absolutely delicious the Morel Pie is! I ordered the Beef Wellington. I had never had Beef Wellington before but, let me tell you, it was outstanding! It was so good, so warm and pink and tender, that I gobbled it up before I thought to take a picture to show you how beautiful it was! Next time I'm in Springfield, I will definitely look forward to visiting Maldaner's again!

We are pretty much home bodies so on those rare occasions we do go out we like to make it special and Maldaner's fits the bill. Always good food and service. Desserts are always stellar and sauces on entrees interesting and well prepared. Menu could use some updating but since we usually get the catch of the day that's not a problem. It is somewhat pricey for the area but we find it well worth it. Highly recommended.

New favorite spot! Read the reviews before going and everything lived up to the hype. We had the scrumptious crab cake as a small plate before dinner (I could have eaten 10 of those). The beef wellington was cooked to perfection and absolutely devine! And to say the service was great is an understatement! The drinks were fast, never left with anything less than half a glass of water, and the waiter led me to a perfect cocktail choice. Can't wait to go back and try the rack of lamb!

Who says you can't go home? We returned to Maldaner's for a second time after a year's absence and it was excellent in every way. We had the tomato salad special and crab cake. The tomatoes had that distinctive fresh from the garden flavor. If this option is still available and you love tomatoes, don't hesitate. For mains we went with the Beef Wellington and Braised Chicken. It's an individual Wellington served over mash potato and it is wonderful. My only critique, is the mash could have been a little creamier, as in more butter and cream - might as well go all in on a dish like this. My wife's chicken was also excellent. We usually leave with doggie bags. Not from Maldaner's and it's not because the portions are small. We finished with a workman like apple crumble. The service was great. The waiter thought us how to uncork a bottle: you turn the bottle not the corkscrew. We tried it this weekend and it works. So our visit keeps on giving. Without question, Maldaner's is among our best restaurant experiences. Worth visiting Springfield just for this dining experience.

1886 !!.. This restaurant has been open since 1886, and has the distinction of being the oldest restaurant on Route 66 !! Many thanks to Jason and Mark for the great service, AND a great ribeye steak !! I usually stick to the filet, but Jason convinced me .... Get it med-rare, and you can have a little bit leftover. Of course, Jason didnt have any leftovers Lol. The steak was accompanied by mashed taters, green beans, and roasted veggies. Yum ! .... so, come check out the old state capital, the Lincoln Library, The Public Library of Springfield, IL,, and then enjoy a great meal in an historic venue Bon Apetit ! #localbusiness #smallbusiness #oldstatecapital #ribeye #ribeyesteak

Went for a murder mystery dinner. It was a limited menu but pretty good. The ac was broke so a bit stuffy. It was on the 2nd floor but they have an elevator if you need one.

My husband and I came here for an early Valentine's dinner and we absolutely loved it! I adored the overall building and history of the place; the ambiance was wonderful and it had this cozy yet classy feel to it. I enjoyed learning about the chef's work and the gardens and beehives on the roof that supplied the restaurant. We ordered the seafood trio as an appetizer and I loved it; I had never tried polenta before and it was very creamy and delicious. My husband ordered the prime rib and he was very impressed by the quality and size as well as the price. I had the salmon: it was well cooked and I enjoyed it but I will say the Asian glaze was a tad too sweet for my liking. I had a New York New York cocktail and it was delicious and fruity. We both ate several baskets of bread and it was great - nice crackling crust and good crumb inside. I will say I was not impressed by both the coffee and the iced tea but that is about the only negative thing I can say about the food and drink. Our server was wonderful and attentive and the atmosphere was cheerful. We will definitely be back. We are new to Springfield and were so pleased to discover this restaurant.

Made reservations at 5:30 PM. Spent an evening here with my husband. He ordered the Beef Wellington and I ordered the Duck Confit. Maldner's did not disappoint! Everything was hot, tasty, and fresh. The duck I would highly recommend...amazing, savory flavor! For dessert, the chocolate Queen of Sheba was a delicious cake. 5/5 We will be coming back for our birthdays/anniversaries!

Food was perfectly cooked, not many know the old school ways and terms of cooking meat. Vegetables were perfectly cooked. Best old fashioned I've had with just a stir. And the dessert was reminiscent of my grandmother's. At least someone knows how to cook supper club and old fashioned gourmet around here.

My goodness… my finacé & I came here for Valentine’s Day. While it was extremely busy with everyone wanting to celebrate with their partners, the staff here went genuinely above & beyond to make it work seamlessly. The hostess, TT, in between seating people spent time asking us in the lobby about our days. Our server, Lontreal, was the sweetest, most hospitable servers I have ever had. He is certainly someone who cares about people! The server to neighboring tables as well did a beautiful job. Our food was exceptional & I finished every single bit of it (unusual for me personally, so you know it’s delicious!) I want to thank the staff & kitchen for making our evening exceptional & not showing a single drop of sweat with how busy it was. You all are amazing! Thank you! We’ll certainly be back soon.

Maldaner's is fine dining. This evening, we enjoyed Minestrone, Beef Wellington, the Fish with Pancetta and Tomato Pesto (with spaghetti squash), and, of course, Brandy Alexander. I LOVED the fish. The pastry on the Beef Wellington was burnt on the bottom, but everything else was delicious!

The wait staff was very attentive. The food was immaculate. Price was very reasonable. I will definitely be visiting this place again. Good date night. Or just dinner for you and a significant other.

Went for dinner here one night with colleagues. Atmosphere seemed to be a little on the romantic side with the white table clothes and wine glasses on the tables, but they seated us anyway. Or food was well prepared and tasted great! They have a limited selection and a bit on the higher side $20 a plate, but worth the cost. I would eat here again if in the area.

Oldest restaurant in Springfield. Nice experience for special night out. We had Sea Bass special and Beef Wellington.

Came for dinner. Split the Beef Wellington & a salad. Both were very good. The only thing I wish was different were the mash potatoes. They tasted like they were boxed not fresh. Parking was free after 5:00.

Overall, we had an enjoyable evening. The ambiance, history, decor, and atmosphere of the restaurant were nice and felt like stepping back in time to a more upscale fine dining place. Even though we had grown up here and known about Maldaner's since we were kids, we never had the opportunity to dine there. We were also surprised that while being from Springfield, our parents and grandparents had also never been the Maldaner's. So, we decided to do something new for NYE and make a reservation to give Maldaner's a try. Our reservation was for 8pm for our group of 8. We arrived about 7:45pm and ckecked in. For New Years Eve it was fairly busy. We were told that our table probably wouldn't be ready until around 8pm and to hang out in the coat area. At about 8:10 the nice lady at the check-in station said there were 3 table groups checking out and one of those tables would be ours as soon as they checked out and tables cleaned. One table group of about 8 in the main dining room left about 8:25, and while staff was cleaning up, another reservation came in for 6 people and we're seated at the table we thought we would be getting. Instead, we waited for a table in the bar area where 2 were dining, so that their table could be added to another to make room for 8 of us. Once those 2 had left, it took about 10 minutes to clean the table and get us seated (now after 8:30pm for an 8pm reservation). After being seated, our server greeted us, told us the evening specials, and said that water and bread would be right out. A little over 10 minutes later the water and bread arrived. Once we ordered, the food came out fairly quickly. Those in our party ordered the Wellington, Ribeye, Filet, and Pork Chop. All were hot and fresh, and my Wellington was very good and cooked perfectly. The others in our party said their meals were very good, as well, except one of the Ribeye orders said it was tough and not to their liking (the other Ribeye order said hers was delicious). It was about 945 pm when we finished and were offered dessert, and probably would have had dessert, if we hadn't waited so long to be seated and didn't have somewhere else to be at 10pm. One thing we noticed while waiting and talking with the greeter was that several table groups had been seated for a couple of hours and taking up tables that were reserved for later times. As a server years ago, it was part of our job to keep the meal moving, so that patrons would have time to enjoy their meal in a timely fashion, but the server was responsible for moving them along so the table was free for the next reservation. With it being NYE, this was even more important to free up tables and not have groups occupying tables for extended hours. All in all, the food was very good, came out fresh and quickly. The atmosphere was great and we enjoyed our first visit to Maldaner's. The only issue was the over 30 minute wait for our reservation, another group reservation coming in after ours and getting seated before us, and the turn around for table prep and drinks. We understand it was NYE and things are always kind of chaotic during events such as that, but enjoyed having dinner with you!

An iconic Springfield eatery. The food was actually better than expected. The specialty of the house ,Beef Wellington was well prepared and served with fresh vegetables. What brought the experience down was the attitude and indifference of an uncaring young dishwater blonde waiter. Food good.Decor very interesting.Pricing Reflective of quality ingredients.Off street parking.

Tonight wasn’t it for Maldaner’s. The Beef Wellington was soggy, Their potato’s tasted like they were instant, and the vegetables were overcooked. On the other hand, My husband had the prime rib, and that was well done. However, his potatoes and veggies suffered the same fate. Disappointing to say the least.

We may have arrived on an "off" night, however the service was less than desirable. To it's saving grace, the cocktails were an 8 out of 10 on a very rigorous scale. The portions were small, but delectable. That said, they were not in a rush to take our order or bring the food out. Take note in case you're glancing at the menu ahead of time: there *are* items ONLY offered at lunch, but not dinner. Desserts were well worth it.

The food is good, but the service not so much. It started when we arrived and were told we would not be seated until 30 minutes after our reservation. Two of us ordered beef Wellington and received a fillet instead. Took about 15 minutes to get our cocktails. It’s a nice place, just need to match it with better service.

This restaurant was ok. When you initially enter it has a very high class feel. Then I was led to my table and discovered my seat was covered in duct tape. The Beef Wellington was very lack luster. The pastry was very soggy and the steak had little to no flavor. Come here for the simple lunch menu but avoid it if you want a Michelin Star dinner. If I was to creat a name for the style of this restaurant I was call it "trailer park millionaire".

What a difference a few months makes. Maldaners used to be our favorite restaurant. We haven’t been for a while because we moved out of Springfield, which is reinforced every time we drive into town. The hostess was wearing a sweatshirt and crocs, appetizer was ok (scallops), the meals (halibut and rack of lamb) weren’t seasoned, the plates were hot but the food was cold (under heat lamps too long?), the server didn’t refill our wine (bottle purchase), dessert was microwaved, and we had to look around for 10 minutes (no one else was there- 8:40pm) to get our bill. This isn’t the place to spend $200 for dinner. We won’t return. 2 stars was due to our nostalgia.

We ordered a salmon meal and French onion soup. Presentation and waitress was EVERYTHING. However the food was not seasoned and the soup tasted as if they poured sugar in it, lots of sugar. They offer free bread, oil and cheese at the table. Once again, no flavor. The vegetables in the meal tasted freezer burnt. The waitress was great and the dining area was beautiful. The flight upstairs and coding into the restroom was a little off for me. We will not go be back.

This place gave me and my wife diarrhea for two days. It looks so elegant on the outside, but the inside is very cramping. The seating is too close for a couple to be comfortable on a busy night. The French onion soup smells and tastes like garbage juice. The lamb and salmon portions were small, undercooked, and poorly seasoned lacking in flavor. The waiter was nice though.

My partner and I both had diner here. It was a great atmosphere, we sat at the bar, waiter forgot to put our food in...both had the beef Wellington, my mashed and steamed veggies were ice cold, partners Luke warm. We wanted to like it. Spending over $100 on a sub par meal was very disappointing.
