Avis sur New Island Chinese Restaurant Staten Island
We only got their dumplings so not a full review but the dumplings were very good. Tasted like wonton soup dumplings. Will have to try more next time
After being disappointed by our go to Chinese take-out place I searched Google and read some reviews and we gave New Island a try and can say we’re making the switch permanently. My husband had general tso’s chicken which had great flavor, the pork fried rice was also good, my son was happy with his boneless spare ribs, I had the chicken and broccoli, I’m not sure if I wasn’t in the mood for it or if the flavor wasn’t what I’m use to, the chicken was tender but I enjoyed the general tso’s chicken more. The egg rolls were very good too, a bonus was not getting the small packets of duck sauce, instead it was the condiment container that was filled with the better duck sauce.
I recently visited New Island, And I was thoroughly impressed with their approach to customer service, especially regarding gluten sensitivity. From the moment I walked in, the staff was warm and welcoming, eager to assist with any questions I had. What stood out most was their extensive knowledge about cross-contamination and gluten sensitivity. The team took the time to explain their preparation processes, including how they manage gluten-free options to ensure safety for customers like me. They offered detailed information about ingredients and even provided alternatives when needed, making me feel comfortable and confident in my choices. The atmosphere was friendly, and it was clear that customer satisfaction was a top priority. It’s refreshing to see a business that not only understands the importance of dietary restrictions but also actively promotes a safe dining experience. Overall, I highly recommend New Island to anyone with gluten sensitivity. Their commitment to excellent customer service and deep understanding of dietary needs truly sets them apart. I left feeling valued and informed, and I can't wait to return!

Food was absolutely delicious. Great serving size for lunch special and really flavorful.
Awesome for a takeout Chinese restaurant ! You would swear that you were eating at a high end restaurant while in the comfort of your home. Food is always hot and delivery is unbelievably quick. My wife and I order the shrimp/chicken and eggplant in garlic sauce and we are never disappointed. Great job ! 1814 Drumgoole rd west
Always a delicious meal! We have tried several menu items, all delicious!
What a pleasure it is to enjoy gluten free Chinese food and not have to worry. Thank you so much for making delicious food that is safe to eat!
Very satisfied with this place. Had spare ribs on the bone with pork fried rice. The meal came with a free hot and sour soup. The rice was amazing, mixed with egg and vegies (all other places charge extra for egg). The ribs were full sized and plump. All for $10.50. Very satisfied with the service (very friendly front counter), the food tasted great and the value was amazing. Wish we had places like these closer to NYC.
The food was delivered quickly, and was so tasty. The chicken and broccoli was so light and not fatty, great flavor Fried rice, also light and barely any oil but lots of flavor- not salty. Dumplings are tasty, soups great. Def ordering from here again, I don’t feel that post chinese food heaviness

The quality of customer service is a big reason for my high rating. I needed something to eat ASAP before going into my sleep study. New Island was the closest place. I was hesitant about ordering initially because I saw a few low scoring reviews and unfavorable comments. I called at 8:05 pm and declined to order after I was told delivery would take 30 minutes. Someone from New Island called back and said they could make my food right away and have it to me by 8:20. And that’s exactly what happened. I was also allowed to substitute a bottled water for the egg roll. The food I ordered—shrimp & broccoli w/ garlic sauce—was good as far as that typical Chinese takeout dish goes. But next time, if in the vicinity of New Island again, I will do myself a favor and not woof down my food in 5 minutes.

One of my absolute favorite Chinese takeout places. They have the tastiest food compared to some of the other competitors in the area who are very Bland. Their prices are pretty much the same compared to others only the food is much better. They have been doing fantastic for a couple of years now since they were Under New Management however my last visit I got the Boneless barbecue spare ribs which were 50% fat I was very upset with that. But I will continue to be a patron of this restaurant as these incidences are not constant
I've been ordering from New Island for many years. There are closer places but New Islands always been on point. Food is normally great and delivery time is always fast. Like how did they cook the food, and drive here so quickly fast! The women taking the order and address are always polite and get my street name on the first attempt ( my block name has a lot of similar sounding letters) and the delivery people are always in good spirits and professional. I recommend trying the crab rangoon
Very good gluten free options. Staff seems knowledgeable on the allergy as well as they offered a few different selections. Regular food is good as well. Prices are quite high here though so I don’t come often.
Always on time food is good I’ve had general Cho’s chicken very good, pork fried rice good, chicken broccoli good, beef broccoli good, spare ribs very good . Oh and chicken wings ok,, That’s all I had here so far. As far as Chinese food there good take out only to small to sit……..

Not very friendly. Ordered chicken fried rice and was given shrimp. When I returned to complain, she opened the container and counted the shrimp. She looked up at me and accused me of eating one of the shrimp. I stated I returned the shrimp fried rice without touching it. She reluctantly switched my rice to chicken. Not very nice to accuse without validity. Never again even though the food is very good.
This place was 100% better a few years ago. My food was not good at all. I actually couldn’t finish it. The amount of meat was low and the price was way too high. I only have Chinese Food a few times a year. Now I’m sure I’m not going to put myself through that again. Disgusting.

They charged me extra for food that was always prepared gluten free I feel robbed of loyalty. I will never order from them again. You lost a good customer

I got beef with garlic sauce about 20 minutes ago my food had a medicinal taste made me gag. I drove back to the store the Clerk denied a refund or a new dish. I do not recommend this place.
I used to eat here all the time even tonight and I got a big surprise as I was eating my pepper steak . I put food in my mouth and jumped because something sharp hit my tongue so I spit it out and it was a metal coil from the metal scrubbing pad they use to clean wok..people be careful and watch every fork full that goes in your mouth now I have a cut tongue with a dirty sponge taste in my mouth ..I will not be going back to them anymore
I ordered a chicken with garlic sauce and it had a chemical taste. When I brought it up to the woman behind the counter she yelled and screamed at me and said it was my problem. When I told her I wanted my money back she continued to yell told me to go tell the nail salon next door then grabbed my arm and and tried to pull me out of the restaurant. Totally unacceptable behavior and customer service. Stay away
Ordering from here was a BIG MISTAKE. I lived in China for several year and I know real Chinese food. I also lived in NYC most of the rest of my life and know good NYC chinese food (Wohop!) This food was an insult to their ancestors. Perhaps they have a white man as a chef, because a real chinese cook would have shame to serve this. Let me break it down: "House Special" Wonton Soup: Bad! Full of bland, fatty meat, meat cut too big, (shrimp had bad smell/rotten taste too) with ONLY 2 WONTON! Too much extra garbage, no focus on quality. Roast Pork Bun: Bad! Clearly from a frozen/pre-packaged box. Arrived stone cold. Cheap & Lazy. Crab Rangoon: BAD & STRANGE! The wrapper was more doughy and not fried to a crisp. And was not a normal wonton wrapper, but some kind of yeast dough. The filling was too much, with a bad spice flavor. Very odd & shows lack of experience in cooking. Egg Foo Young: Bad! Egg disks were TOO BIG and UNDERCOOKED because of it. Eggs mushy, not firm. Smelly eggs too, not fresh. Gravy was BAD. There are 2 schools of egg foo young gravy, the good kind you get on the north shore that is yellow from tumeric and tastes flavorful of chicken broth. This was the bad kind - dark brown, using anise and five spice. Very gross. Shame should be felt for sending this out. Finally, the worst offender: Moo Shu Beef - the ingredients were wrong. Good resturants add black ear mushroom, regular mushroom, celery or bamboo shoots. This had only onions, egg and beef. The onions were cooked to mushy slop. There was no spice, no flavor, no sauce. But worst of all, instead of rice paper to roll up, they sent FLOUR TORTILLA from mexican food! What? This should be illegal! My chinese friend's grandmothers are hurt in their soul by this. Because I am not chinese you think you can play games with me and fool me? You must think customer is very stupid to serve me this. Lazy and sloppy. Dishonorable. Rice was also WAY overcooked mushy, no plastic forks or spoons, and even though I spend 50$ not even a free can of soda. This place is only safe to order western basics like candy chicken. Do not expect them to make it like 祖母 grandmother. Very bad, very insulting. *Edit: Upon calling resturant to address these issues, they first pretend to not understand. But I speak chinese to them so they cannot pretend. Then a boy gets on phone and says "This is not china, we use tortillas always." and has smart, sarcastic answers for everything. No apology, no humility. Dishonorable! They say "so don't order again!" and hang up. I will make sure they get Karma.
