Has a nicer dining room than any other green cactus I've been too!
I have never had a bad meal here and the staff has always been very polite!
Fast service food is fresh amd taste great my favorite mexican food chain on Long island !
Food is always fresh and delicious. Everyone who works there is professional
Quick, friendly service and great food. The Asada tacos are amazing!!
Whenever you're in Stony Brook around lunch time you have to stop at Green Cactus... Do not make the mistake of passing by Green Cactus
Possibly the best Mexican on Long Island. I've been eating here since 1996!
Great food friendly service reasonable prices
Quality food, reasonable prices, accommodating staff.
I make It a point to stop here whenever I am in the area. Always good.
Great food . Those chicken enchiladas are so good !!
Love the fish burrito and their house salsa!
Always great service, always delicious and affordable.
awesome burritos. glad they deliver too
Quick and easy meals, prices are very reasonable.
Fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. Can't beat it.
Very good menu, I particularly like the veggie burrito with green peppers added
Another hole in the wall restaurant. The food is simple yet amazing!. The portions are large and the service is excellent. Prices are also very reasonable.
They offer a fantastic variety of delicious food. I liked dining here. Staff members are always super friendly, rates are reasonable and the spot is always clean.
Always yummy! Classic spot for awesome food and good vibes.
Awesome food, fresh ingredients and the green cactus burrito is a great option if your don't want rice filling
There is one of the my favorite mexican restaurants
good mexican-american food, def recommend the hot sauce for the tacos and then eating the fish taco last :P wish they had tamales!!!
Its been a while but the food is just as good as I remember. Great fresh takeout Mexican food!
I really love the tostada salad. All ingredients fresh and delicious. Taco Ranchero a close second.
I love a good Mexican dish. This did not disappoint. Fast and delicious.
Delicious. Even their salads are amazing. Great price for the value. Clean.
The food is always great. Pleasant , casual eat in take out joint.
Good salads! I like the chips and salsa on the side too- prices going up tho
It's been a while since I've been here and it's as good as I remember. The Pico de Gallo is the freshest and crisp I've ever tasted. The steak burrito was nicely charred and seasoned. Hope to return soon!
Fresh Salsa! The house salsas have fresh tomatoes and onions and the Green Cactus salsa has roasted tomatoes and lots of black pepper in it. The burritos are excellent and you can have them cooked enchilada style. My favorite is the fish burrito. The quesadillas are large and very tasty. My favorite is the vegetable quesadilla. They are served with nacho chips, guacamole, sour cream and salsa. They have nice clean bathrooms. The service is quick and efficient.
They have the best tacos here. I got a ccx couple soft tacos with cheese and sour cream. Also got some tres leches cake and flan. Both the best ever. I would def go back there and you should too lol
Love this place- have been coming here for many years. Delicious, fresh, mostly healthy, prices good. They include chips with meals, unlike any other, newer fresh-Mex places.
Excellent food, service, and prices. Great place
Great Mexican food. Very affordable. Love the fresh salsa. Convenient location for Stony Brook University students, very close to the SB train station.
A staple in the community! Great for dine in or taking out a fast lunch. They have a nice patio area for dining when it's warm enough outside, and the inside is always clean and welcoming
Great burritos. Especially the green cactus burrito with chicken. House made salsa is delicious, although a little spicy for me. Generally nice people and food is fresh.
The nachos and tacos at this place are amazing and authentic. I couldn't believe we were in Long Island. Highly recommend!
Great tasty burritos, this is a perfect place to get a quick bite. The owner is really nice and personable and the decor is nice. It's also very clean!
Anytime I'm in the Stony Brook area I have to visit Green Cactus! I live in the Huntington area and cried when they shut down. It was my weekly go to spot. Best texted around.
Satisfying and no complaints. Would go back. Food was good quality and had great flavor.
We had been going somewhere else in town for fast Mexican, but wanted to switch it up! With that said we found our new place. I reccomend the tamales and the enchiladas, but the taquitos were excellent too. The rice and pinto beans were flavorful and the service was quick and friendly. A go to for Mexican food!
One of our favorite Mexican food places in the area. Service is pretty quick and easy, accessible location. Workers are friendly. Love the steak burrito fajita and shrimp tacos, personal favorites. Chips and salsa are always great. Have been coming here over 20 years and never disappointed. Will keep returning as long as Green Cactus is there, and recommend to others!
Never fails in the past 25 years I've always had a negative experience its the best and freshest Mexican restaurant in Suffolk County I highly recommend it. The guacamole is full of tomatoes thats the only thing I dont like. Cactus combo is where it's at! Awesome as always.
When I lived in Stony Brook would frequent Green Cactus often. Moved away 17 years ago and was back for a visit and decided to go back to Green Cactus. It was just as good as I remembered. I had the Burrito Fajita and it was fabulous. My only complaint, it was too huge (if you can call that a complaint). Love this place. Wish they were upstate in Rochester.
Whenever we come to visit my in-laws we make sure we make several stops at Green Cactus for their vegetarian burritos. They are delicious! My in-laws also love their chicken and beef burritos. Never once have we been disappointed!
This Green Cactus in particular (I've been to others) is very very good. Their location has high volume (right next to the university) so the food is definitely fresh. It's a nice change and more authentic than your usual big name burrito joints. I highly recommend getting your burrito "wet" (as they call it) which is enchilada style. Delicious!
Indoor and outdoor eating. Staff is friendly and courteous. Food is tasty and filling. Burritos are my favorite and they have several to chose from. Located across from Stonybrook University's LIRR north station side, west end. Nice place to bring the family or friends.
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area for the simple fact that it has the best food. It is all made fresh when you order, so you will wait a little bit longer for an order than you may be used to waiting for Mexican food -- especially when they are busy, but it is worth it. I like the "one foot burrito" and the chicken nachos. Either dish will fill me up, and I'm a big guy. They also offer a "taco primo" which is super tasty, but I would need to eat several to fill up so I usually just order one on the side to cap off a nice meal. The salsa bar is full of great salsa and they offer outdoor seating that is really nice when the weather is nice.
This was a nice place to have lunch, we ate on the patio and it was a beautiful day. They gave me a handful of chips with my burrito, which was a nice touch. I thought the food was delicious. They were a little expensive, but it was interesting to order at the counter without the Chipotle style assembly line. Service with a smile and nice people, at least at lunch. I think some of the older complaints about service are out of data.
Just right for a quick and tasty meal. Good takeout setup.
Simple and straight forward Mexican food with options that can be changed to your liking...
Fresh guacamole and chips! Great for a sunset picnic at the beach nearby.
The salsa here is why i drive 40 minutes just to eat here...
Very good , authentic mexican food.
Average Mexican food. The enchiladas are reasonably good.
My goto Mexican food whenever I am back home in Stony Brook. Fresh ingrediants and a salsa bar. The burrito is always a safe choice.
The food was good, the servings are large and the price was right. Their cactus salsa was delish.
Great food with there were still more locations around
Really good food, My kids love to come here.
Awesome place to grab nachos and a burrito. I love the food here and the service is always quick. I have had a few times where they messed up our orders and I don't appreciate the additional charges for meats but other than that I enjoy the ambiance and the food. I'll definitely keep coming.
I miss their nachos so much now that I've moved out of state. It's fast food, pricey for that sort, but the food's good and the chips are great. And it's the only tolerable food by Stony Brook University that's not soup.
Very good Mexican food. Not authentic, but still tasty. Its a good place to get takeout, but I wouldn't stay and eat as the venue does not seem very family friendly.
I love the fish burrito with salsa and chips. The decor and atmosphere is authentic and new. Bury me in a fish burrito as my last wish. OH LA !!!
Hard to find authentic Mexican around Stony Brook / East Setauket. Glad this place is here!
Not going to like it if you have had authentic/Tex-Mex food.
You aren't likely to find authentic Mexican food on long island, but green cactus does a reasonable facsimile of texmex. Tacos are probably the way to go, given the food ordered by the group i was with.
It's good food. The enchiladas I had weren't great but good.
Good, but expensive. With places like Moe's and Chipotle popping up everywhere, there is a lot of competition for decent Hispanic food. The prices of this place are kind of painful on the wallet, but it's been here for decades so it must be doing something right.
Good food, but the quality isn't there for the price you are paying. It is great for a quick Mexican craving, but it is just slightly better than Taco Bell.
Decent counter serve. Dishes could use some embellishment our burrito was served without anything on top or the side except tortilla chips.
Waited on the phone for 10 minutes. The girl who answered couldn't have been more rude. Then she hung up on me. Love their food, but this girl should not be allowed to work with customers.
My husband liked his Quesadilla I had the steak fajita, I was not not so happy and wouldn't order again. Ppl were nice They did not give chips w our food like most other Mexican food places do. So.... I'm not going to come back, but I did try it.
I have had to lower my rating as the last few times I went there the food quality has declined quite a bit from a few years ago. My friends agree. Green cactus salsa is still good but the tortilla chips taste burnt and tasteless. I had Chicken taquitos and my Hispanic friend eating with me said they are flatuas. The chicken filling had NO seasoning and the shell tasted burnt. The Shrimp burrito that another friend had did not taste as good as they used to according to him.
The quality has gone down over the years. Additionally I saw a lot of ants on the counter when I was there last.
Reasonable price, last time I went here the tacos were not very seasoned and the tortillas were raw
Looks really good until you get your food. Seems very authentic until you realize it isn't. I’ve had better tacos at taco bell.
Average fish tacos, poor customer service. We ordered some to take out and sat outside to eat because it was 8:00pm and the hours posted we're until 9:00pm. At 8:30, after several customers were served after us, we asked to order more tacos but we told that the kitchen was closed. Not a good way to make a mark after being in business for only a month.
Pickup was great that's what the two stars are for. However, I'm from Southern California (san diego) to be exact and I've tried Carne Asada from multiple mexican restaurants in san diego. Which Is right next to Mexico if you didnt know. This carne asada and pollo asada is NOT AUTHENTIC. The meat lacks all the flavor and seasonings of a true carne asada. Beware if you are looking for an authentic experience dont get food here. However if you want an american style taco get it here but they shouldnt be advertising it as authentic Mexican food. Not a waste of money but would not eat here again until they change their recipe.💯
They don’t turn the heat on so it’s like you are having your meal sitting in 10 degree weather outside. Food is decent and portion size have gotten smaller. People are friendly.
I haven’t been there in awhile but the food has changed wasn’t happy with the enchiladas. The green sauce was poured up to the top of the plate. No air conditioning stuffy. No hot sauces on table no more. Have to go up and ask for salsa because where they kept it refrigerator must of been broken for years. So dissatisfied. Use to be my favorite place.
The food is good, but they are incredibly stingy with their hot sauce. You basically have to beg them for sauce, and they ration it strictly to two small cups per customer. I'm willing to pay for extra sauce, but it's a major hassle because they always get confused when you ask to pay for more sauce. This is basically a Mexican restaurant that heavily restricts how much hot sauce they give out, which is absurd because hot sauce is one of the main reasons people like Mexican food. The food is good but every time I come in I feel like I have to get into a fight over the sauce, so it's just not worth it anymore.
def not a fan and wont be back. drowsy food and service.
Stop eating here! They tried to ask for vaccine card to eat! Then demanded a mask! If you do not wish to turn into NYC communism it starts with boycotting places like this!
Used to be so much better. Staff no longer cares and it shows in the food and the dingy restaurant. Gave them multiple chances, won't go back anymore.
Unfortunately, when we ordered from here yesterday there was a hair in my sour cream. Not impressed as of recent....better years ago.
Make believe Mexican food. Horrible beef burrito hard chips and weak salsa. Gross!
The burrito was cold like it was previously frozen, the queso tasted like it was prepackaged from a baseball game, and in what world is a frozen burrito worth 11 dollars?
Came for the first time with high expectations but the guacamole was old and the lettice frozen, extremely bad food. Disappointing....
The salsa bar appeared to be “boiling” in one corner...that usually means fermentation from just adding “fresh” salsa over the old salsa. Haven’t eaten there since. Felt lucky not to ha e gotten sick,
Went in there to pick up an order they acted like I wasn’t there and were very disrespectful when they came to help me like I was bothering them getting food
Wife and I both got sick from take out on 5/26/19. Fever, body aches, headache, and naseau the following morning and lasted 24 hours. The steak in my burrito fajita was full of thick chewy inedible gristle.
They do not deserve not even 1 star. The food is horrible, the service is extremely poor. The place doesn’t look clean. I would never recommend this place
1-word review: Yuck. Jun 24, order# 4316. 3:14pm. The food was not great. We ordered fried chicken fingers for the kids. The chicken was extremely dry. I ordered the American Burrito. After a few bites I realized there was no beef inside. It was also cold. I brought it back and they made me a new one. This time it was extremely dry. I looked inside and I could not see any queso cheese (the first one had queso). I brought it back in and they said there was queso in it. I said there was not. He just looked at me and refused to put more queso in it. I ask for a little side of queso and he said there was an extra charge. This is not the quality of food and hospitality I remember from eating here years ago. I won't be back. This place is gross.
Food is good - fresh and healthy. The service and counter-help is the absolutely worst however. I would give it 0 stars if I could. They play the language game, ignore requests they say 'speak nicely' to get what you ordered. Used to go once a week - then once a month. First time there this year and will be my last.
