What a little gem of a place in the lovely town of Thames. We had a fantastic meal here with friends who were equally as impressed with the experience. The staff were so friendly and the service was excellent. We will definitely be going again.
We are regular customers there. Food is usually excellent , great staff and service. Nice atmosphere especially outside in garden. UPDATE July 2025... Went again and food was very disappointing. Dry chicken, bitter parsnips, undercooked potatoes. Will think twice about going again for food. On the plus side, staff provided an excellent service and were very pleasant. They gave us a discount to reflect the poor food.
Great food & wine - choose the older part of the restaurant for the best atmosphere. Service was attentive and helpful - the menu currently contains a great cheese soufflé which I would highly recommend. A few glasses of wine each, all finished off with a great Armagnac and the bill was quite reasonable.
Wonderful service and Sunday roast! We came for a Sunday roast and were pleasantly surprised how cozy and nice this pub was. We had two roasts: the vegetarian and the chicken one and they were both fantastic. The sides were delicious, perfectly seasoned and came with free top ups! Definitely the best roast in the area. In addition to this, Chido, our waitress was incredible - she was so friendly, knowledgeable and really made sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying ourselves. Thank you, Chido for amazing service and we will definitely be back!
Fantastic meal, with great service and good atmosphere. The quality and variety of the bar menu is hard to be matched, I'd highly recommend their French 75 cocktail. The food menu has a great variety, with there being a vegan option for starter, main and dessert. However I've only given 4 stars, as I felt a salad as a vegan option is not substancial enough. It was reflected in the lower price compared to my friends meals but still slightly frustrating. Otherwise the quality of the meals were fantastic. The venue does have low ceilings at the entrance but opens up to a great dining area in the rear with a tables and booths. The car park at the rear is quite tight so I would recommend parking elsewhere as it's difficult to exit if it does turn out to be full. Would I return? Ultimately yes, the drinks and the food were fantastic. I'd just hope the vegan option is switched to something like a mushroom risotto or a pasta dish (even having a vegan burger would be a welcome addition).
4 of us have just had our yearly Christmas meal and this year we chose The Thatch. Booked easily online and a week before we had special request that although they couldn’t guarantee it they fulfilled it on the evening. The service, food was truly excellent, couldn’t fault a thing. We had a great evening and will certainly return next year. A big thanks to all the team and especially our waitress Darcey. Happy Christmas 🎄
First visit yesterday. What a lovely place. The service was fantastic. Very friendly and helpful. The food, wow! Will definitely return.
Just a fantastic night. The team delivered 5 star ⭐️ service to us, the food was so delicious and the atmosphere was so great. From bar staff to table service it was first class
Popped in this evening, wonderful 😊 We visited on mother's day, and it was super busy even at 7:30pm, however the brilliant front of house staff found us a seat, by the fire in the snug! What an excellent start to our visit! The menu options are good, and augmented by a specials board, with both of us settling for a roast, one beef and one butternut and mushroom nut roast. Good sized portions, fantastic cauliflower cheese, and a wonderful apple crumble to follow. The food is and has a home cooked style and was scrumptious, we will be back..... And we did, above March 2023, back today August 2023... no change still wonderful
Perfect in every respect. Warm greeting, jug of tap water without prompting, lovely beer. But the food was the star of the show. My chalk stream trout was superb, and Mrs D had the best roast beef she can remember. We were short of time so only had the one course, but with family nearby we will definitely be back for more!
We went for lunch on Saturday and it was busy with a couple of large parties before 1:30pm. We waited in the bar to allow some space for parties to leave which was fine. There’s a really impressive selection of drinks and the menu is pretty big. The food menu was pretty big as well, good selection of produce which comes from across the south of England. There’s a bit of something for everyone. The Thatch is lovely with the exposed beams, and atmosphere. The staff were great as well, always running around and the food wasn’t rushing out of the kitchen at the speed of some restaurants, but you could tell everything was fresh and made from scratch. We would look forward to returning here in the future.
We found The Thatch online and phoned to book a table first two that lunchtime, so glad we did. Friendly greeting and led to our seats by one lady, another greeted us and took our drinks order while giving us the menus. A third lady was tooing and frying and also seemed to be as lovely as the two we spoke with. Two lovely starters and mains followed and then we shared real Ice Cream, then we were informed it was Vegan! It was nice though. A little more expensive than I expected but the experience, lovely staff and the atmosphere made it worthwhile. I didn't see a long face on anyone in the bar or garden. The age range of customers was early 20's to late 80's.
Been today for lunch with friends, ate outside. Absolutely fantastic! The food was wonderful, we all loved what we ordered. Staff were brilliant and very attentive. Good to see that dogs aren't allowed in restaurant area (wish everywhere did this). The cheese souffle was exquisite... definitely an outstanding recommendation!
The Thatch hosted our wedding in October 2025 and it went perfectly. The service was excellent and the food as amazing, 10/10 would recommend
Fantastic food and friendly staff. Great atmosphere too. A must to visit if in Thame
Warm and cozy atmosphere. The old building is well-preserved, an inviting mix of old and new. We were just visiting, but it seems like a great place to mingle; at this time, there's even a pumpkin-carving contest going on. Great food - I especially recommend the braised lamb shoulder, very tender and flavourful.
Excellent food and friendly attentive service. One of our favourite places!
A great Sunday roast. Not sure about the "lashings" of gravy but more was offered after we'd started eating
I liked it. However if you are tall wear a helmet. It is made for people if olden times.
Perfect for our Christmas party. The food was great and staff very attentive.
Amazing garden and great food would certainly come here again, broad range of options on the menu and fantastic special board. Dog friendly and wonderful service.
Just had a quick lunch here. The fish cake was excellent as was the treacle tart. Worth stopping by.
What a find! - had a wonderful set lunch and the best service. We’ll definitely be back!
A wonderful Burns night. Awesome food and wonderful staff Thank you
Fantastic experience at The Thatch! The team were exceptionally friendly and professional nothing was too much trouble and the service was spot on throughout. The food was delicious, with a great range of daily specials that made choosing a real pleasure. The garden is a real highlight - cosy, inviting, and ideal for a relaxed drink or meal, especially on a sunny day. A proper gastro pub that gets it right on all fronts. We’ll certainly be back! Highly recommended.
We had a delicious family lunch here today. Lovely atmosphere and attentive staff in a charming building.
Great food, drinks and service. We always feel welcome here and we love the whole experience
The restaurant is lovely and staff friendly and attentive. So pleased as my first visit to eat. Food was really good, but some of the dishes on the menu said served with seasonal greens I don't call 3 leaves of a veg a selection its a token. Also not cooked particularly well a bit to hard. But rest of food very good. I will definitely try again
Service was exceptional, attentive to detail, helpful, nothing too much trouble. Visited mid week evening, menu was enthusiastic but did not quite deliver to expectations. Triple cooked chips didn't seem so, smashed garden peas are not mushy peas but the fish was delicious, batter terrific and i enjoyed the tartare sauce which normally i can't abide. The belly pork my wife ordered was not crispy or well seasoned, really quite plain.
I really enjoyed my lunch here at the Thatch. Would definitely like to go again. Really friendly non intrusive service. Only give a 4 star because there was a wasp flying around the dining room and I hoped someone would come out with some spray to kill it but it was left to fly around :(
A lovely location and helpful staff, the food was nice but not of the standard of the prices. There was often a little lacking to make it a truly great dish, such as a dash of balsamic with the beetroot and goat's cheese, which the pricing requires of it
Whenever I have a meal at The Thatch I always come away happy. From the excellent regularly changing menu to the friendly and informed staff it’s a lovely pub/ restaurant to have in Thame.
Last minute weekday freezing January evening, fancying an early Fish & Triple Cooked chip dinner with a smoked mackerel starter. All delicious & served promptly.
We had a great lunch here, the mains were brilliant but the desserts weren't great. We also loved the selection of mocktails. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Lovely food. Really efficient friendly staff. Very pricy but good quality.
Group of 3, portion of scampi was small for the price, mussels were lovely, but needed some nice bread to dip it in the sauce, grilled goats cheese on specials was underwhelming. Chips fresh, service overall good. We have visited many times, and probably will again.
Lovely pub, fantastic food and fairly priced for the quality. Have eaten here 4 times, 3 in the private room at the front. Most recently we dined as a group of 9. Service was slow for a Tuesday night. Felt a little forgotten about. They didn't have the wine we wanted to order by the bottle, clearly popular. The reccomended alternative was excellent though. Food as ever was spot on though. Never had a bad meal here. Would absolutely recommend 👌
We had a family celebration in a private room and all was really excellent.
Had a nice lunch here with family. Was well welcomed by the staff and nice atmosphere in the garden. However prices are high for the quality of the food unfortunately. I had a burger and partner had the chicken salad. Burger was £19 and the chicken salad was £23!! I mean really? Way too much for what it was. Other than that it's a nice pub with very lovely staff, just overpriced.
Came here for a Christmas dinner with high expectations. The soup was honestly the most bland tasteless starter I've ever tried. The staff did apologise and offer an alternative. The turkey main was OK, as you would expect from a mass catered Christmas meal. The sticky toffee pudding was lovely. Overall the food was well below what I expected, however the waiting staff were excellent, friendly and did knock 2 soup starters off the bill, they did forget to knock our deposit off until we queried it though. I would love to give more stars but in my opinion it really doesn't deserve them. Would I give them another chance. Probably.
Delightful old pub, very nice dining rooms. We walked up for a Saturday lunch, and the staff were accommodating and efficient, very welcoming. It was a reassuringly pricey menu suggesting quality and cooking skills, but the food was ….. underwhelming. Quite bland dishes, under seasoned and just not very tasty. Is hard to make chicken gravy tasteless! We were a party of five, and this was consensus. Such a shame.
Very busy with Sunday revels. Staff coped with the numbers well enough and menu a good range.
This meal was very average. It got two stars because the food didn't match the prices, or the expectations set out by the menu. We were not from the area, so cannot compare to other local restaurants. But little things, like a lightly toasted bread basket, tells you enough to know whether the bread is fresh or artisan (clearly wasn't). A lack of consistency, e.g. one table being offered olive oil and balsamic, and us, only butter demonstrates a lack of professionalism. And finally, we both felt that the food reminded us of school dinners, or going to your nans (if she was a very average cook!). It lacked finesse. I had to ask for more spinach with my dish (fish, potatoes, spinach) as it was literally like a garnish. We did however, think the venue was lovely and staff friendly, so would go back for a drink only.
We’ve been a few times and every time enjoyed a very warm welcome and some lovely food. Today on my birthday we did not get a welcome at all or even a smile from the bar girl who seemed busy with fridge cleaning! The food we ordered was not good and we sent most of it back, it was only starters and sides we wanted to share late afternoon! Mushroom soup was tasteless very watery and another fellow guest agreed! Bread and butter which is £7 was dried out completely!! Chips which we kept as I was very hungry were undercooked. Not coming back any time soon. Shame as it is a cozy pub. Hope they improve their service and food. Regards. 🙏
