A visit to Al's place is something you remember and wish to return to again and again. The bar offers a truly unique atmosphere with good simple bar food and a friendly casual staff that makes you feel like a local regular patron. Set in Locke, the historic landmark village founded by Chinese immigrants, Al's is truly unique place. A weekend get away to this part of the Delta is peaceful yet memorable adventure. There are lovely historic overnight accommodations available in Airbnbs just steps away from Al's or the Miyasaki Bathhouse a 15 minute walk away in Walnut Grove. I highly recommend a visiting this area of the delta and visiting the art galleries, antique stores and other unique businesses in the area from Rio Vista and Isleton to Walnut Grove and Locke, this area is like stepping back in time 100 years
Love this place!! I have been coming here since i was a kid forty plus years ago. It has an awesome bar, with money on the ceiling and while they used to only sell steak sandwiches, they now have a menu with a large variety of items. The prices are a bit high but where aren't prices high these days? The service was top notch and that is something you do not get at most places these days. Definitely worth a visit. You won't be disappointed by the food or the overall experience.
Food and bartender were great. We can't wait to go back for the steak sandwich. We highly recommend the garlic tossed tater tots.
What fun! Worth the drive to hang out in this epic Dive Bar. Take a moment and enjoy the history of Locke and the old buildings. Bar has a rickety cool atmosphere and from biker to tourist.. all get the same warm welcome. Make the trip!
Dive bar with excellent food. Parking is a little dicey but this place is worth the bet. My daughters took me out for my birthday. One had the shrimp, fish & chips. We all had a bite of the others meals. The fish and the shrimp was top notch. Crispy, flavorful and hot. My other daughter and I shared a ribeye steak meal. Plenty big for the two of us. Melted in the mouth. The sweet potato fries were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The Brussel sprouts were fantastic! Tangy and just the right texture. Definitely will return.
After meaning to go here for years, we finally made it last night (a Tuesday). So glad we did. I enjoyed the character of this spot. It's a bar/restaurant with a rich history, totally unique and off the beaten path. We started with an Old Fashioned. It was fun talking to Jonny, I think I heard, about Al's, mixology, and ice. He made a most excellent Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioneds, one bourbon and one rye, were a great lead in to the The Big Ol Steak and a Lil Steak. They were cooked as we requested (one rare and one medium-rare) and accompanied with sauteed mushrooms, loaded baked potato, onion rings, French fries, and Brussels sprouts. All was fantastic. My wife raved about the Brussels, and we enjoyed talking with Crystal about how she made them. Everyone who works here that we interacted with was friendly. I'm still having a hard time adjusting to prices after the past few years, but the prices here seemed quite reasonable compared to elsewhere. I look forward to getting back again.
A wonderful historic restaurant/bar along the delta that serves up food so good that you can taste that love that went in to it. My wedge salad was crisp and fresh, and the buffalo chicken sandwich was mouth watering. Oh, and the beer was cold too. I will be back!
Funky old dive that's been around for decades. I remember going with my parents in the 70s. Great burger. Garlic fries were loaded with garlic. If you want peanut butter for your garlic bread or steak, you have to ask for it now.
Asked for a burger and beer, got a burger and beer. Great atmosphere. Rainy night on a weekday, fun crowd, great music. Food was a great price. It's nice here.
First timer at this Spot, decided to stop by for a bite of food. Upon walking in , the place was awesome. Almost like a homestead for Locals and bikers from what it seems and got greeted right away! Ordered A PBR & fish n chips, food was great and left me satisfied.

Old school dive that needs to be visited. Don't sweat the drive, the delta has some great views. The banana peppers with peanut butter (free at the bar) are better than you think. Updated 8/28/2022 New ownership will provide peppers and peanut butter if you ask. That's about the biggest change I noticed. I want to trust that the burgers are as good as before. Susanna seemed nice enough, (I only know her name because I overheard her introducing herself to someone else at the bar).
Mary and Crystal made our visit so fun and enjoyable! The place has a real historic dive bar charm to it. When you walk in you can see the famous dollar bills on the ceiling and you can feel the floors are far from level. Highly recommend for great food, service, and atmosphere. We had the potato skins and the fish and shrimp with chips. The food was fresh and excellent.
Very friendly atmosphere. The building was delightfully old and worn. I will definitely go back.
This place has old town charm through and through.I opted for the weekend special, rib eye steak and I decided to havet he sauteed musharooms. My medium - medium rare cooked steak was pretty good, but could have been a little more tender. My wife had the 'Lil steak which she enjoyed along with her sweet potato fries which were done to her likeling. We were there on Valentine's day (Sat) and there was plenty of sitting in the dining hall, but we opted for the main bar area. The staff was friendly and were the right amount of attentive to our needs. The place has the feel of an old west bar, but is clean and welcomining with regulars and staff knowing each other. While this is a bit off the path normally traveled, Hwy 5 and Hwy 12, if you want a good steak and beer options, this is only about 20 minutes (or so) out of the way. The price for a our dinners which included a beer and an apitizer was very close to $100, but was worth it. I could eat the whole pound of steak, so now I have steak for my breakfast this morning. If I'm in the area, I would actually go back and try their salad offerings. Don't forget to ask for Al's bread, it's very good but you have to ask for it with your dinner meail.
Al's is a old time dive bar in the heart of the Delta. You come here to see the history, hear some stories, and have some refreshments. Also, didn't forget to try the legendary peanut butter and peppers. Sounds weird, but it really works well. The food here is good, the vibe is friendly, and kids enjoy the sit down area. Old school charm and friendly people will have you coming back for more.

After many visits to the historic town of Locke, we finally stopped at Al's the Wop for lunch with our granddaughters yesterday. Yes, it's a funky roadside bar & grill, but the atmosphere is terrific. Most importantly the food was very good. We ordered burgers (on a recommendation) and the fish & shrimp chips combo plate. It was enough food for two people! The food was fresh, hot and did not disappoint. Perhaps the most memorable part was the service provided by Mary. She was very welcoming offering suggestions on the menu along with stories of Al's itself. Mary was great with our granddaughters and checked in with us frequently. The price was reasonable particularly considering the large portions. If you are looking for comfort food in a relaxed fun atmosphere, you'll get that at Al's the Wop.
You gotta love the old school vibes in this place. Food is 4/5. Parking kinda sucks sometimes. Make a day trip and enjoy the area
I wanted to give this place a 5 simply because of it's unique character. However, over an hour wait for our meal and then errors made in what we were delivered did undermine the experience. That being said, management did comp something on the bill to amend the situation. Folks there were really great, customers and staff alike. I will definitely give it another try and modify my review at the time if deemed appropriate.
Fine for what it was...good food with large portions though! Bread especially, and the homemade peanut butter (homemade PBJ came with my salad) and the delicious BLT! I'd come here again if I was already in the area. Good garlic fries 👍
Great food and excellent service!
Sorry no photos - ate my 1/2lb burger too fast. ***Fixed - added photos*** Service was great, love the quirky vibe of the place, food quality is good for bar food. Nice job on the garlic fries. Worth checking out if you are in the area.
Delicious comfort food at an old time bar and "hole in the wall" restaurant. Love the hamburger with grilled bread and french fries. The fried chicken is a best buy as long as it is not over done. Overall, a great place for some good homestyle food. Nice attentive staff.
