Such a great place with the best food and by far the best people. Thank you for your kindness
Lovely old dinner. Food was wonderful, staff was down to earth and fun. Other customers at the counter were fun. Don't know why, but everything was half priced when I was in there. Great experience.
Food and service was absolutely amazing. Super cute little place with lots of history on the walls. Very military friendly from announcing my father and my sons service in the military to the entire restaurant to hugging each of them as a thank you for their service. It was very nice and the food and the cookies were fantastic.
This is the quintessential American Café complete with country music, railroad decor and the Old West presence missing from “yuppified” Truckee. I remember going here with my dad growing up and it was still just as inviting today as it was then. The French Dip sandwich was tremendous on home made bread. The service was warm as if I was an every morning regular. While sitting at the counter during the morning rush, I was instantly transported to those visits with my Dad. Big breakfasts before a day of skiing in the peaks of the Sierra Nevada. Millennials Beware! This cafe is unapologetically old school American…. And I love it! I’m sure all are welcome, but love it for what it is. Avoid the overpriced yuppie, vegan, California cuisine and keep it simple but great!
3 of us had breakfast and the food and service was amazing. I had the bagel sandwich with ham and it was delicious. Got to meet to owners on our way out. Such nice people. Thank you for having such an amazing restaurant for us to be experience. I wish there were more restaurants like this around.
Despite the lack of staffing, the staff available were quick, kind, and full of personality. The atmosphere was cozy and made me feel right at home. Food was quick to serve, and breakfast was half off while we stayed. The meals were big! I had my sibling help me finish my plate and oh my goodness was it good. The coffee provided was diner style, hot and topped up often. Will definitely visit again next time we are in Truckee.
Hidden germ! Hard to find a traditional diner like this anymore. We enjoyed our brunch here. You can tell that the chef put some effort into making the food. Hash browns - it’s amazing! We have tried quite a lot of diners and lots of them are just okay. This place has crunchy but not fried hash brown!! It’s so addicting to keep eating! Pancake - it has some crunch in it, so good! Never had something like this good before at a diner, well or at home. lol Sausage - 100/100 give it a try! For us petite ladies who can’t eat the whole breakfast, I am so glad that I can order junior size! For guys, their portion is quite good! You won starve afterwards. I love the decor in this place. And I love supporting small business!! Will come back soon!
Omg this place was amazing. Reminded me of south philly with all the pics and relics from the owner passing in 2010. The servi e was amazing and all the staff was super. Our food was served in 10 minutes and it was hot and delicious. They have a half price special from 5:30am to 7:30 am for all of you early birds. So it was delicous and inexpensive. If your in Truckee you should check this place out for sure!
Wife and I celebrating our 7yr anniversary today, and we stopped in here originally to just get coffee, but we got a whole lot more!! Great atmosphere, lots of rich history, and a damn good breakfast. Bacon was delicious, it went well with our Blood Mary's :) Overall, great experience, it is on the pricey side of things, but we would def go back again.
We always make an appoint to stop here on our way to reno or tahoe. Service is always wonderful.Food is great in large proportions. This is a must stop.
Excellent coffee and delicious bread pudding. The interior looks super cool, and service was great!
We luckily stumbled on this place on our way to Graeagle for a golf tourney and I am so glad we did. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by Siobhan the owner in her thick New Orleans accent and made to feel like family. She noticed my friends Air Force key strap and thanked him for his service, followed by sharing stories of her own family servicemen and women. Thank you Siobhan for making 4 strangers feel so welcome. The food was just as good as her hospitality- I would highly recommend her grandma’s strawberry jam - best ever had. Also recommend all the skillets which are huge and tons of flavor, lastly I ate the chicken fried steak made from elk- just amazing. We liked it so much we stopped back in on our way home from the golf tourney just to see Siobhan and eat one last great meal before our 3 hour drive home! See you next time I am driving thru Truckee!!! Murph, Brett, Joel and Love Nugget
I’ve been coming to the Wagon Train Coffee Shop for years and they never fail to serve up the best biscuits, gravy and sausage in the USA! Better than my grandmother used to make and if you knew her cooking you’d know that’s saying something. Superb job to the wait staff and the chefs! You guys ROCK!
Arrived at about 6:30 am for breakfast and the place was slightly busy. Placed the order for egg and it was served as ordered, along with their own home made strawberry jam and nicely baked bread. The interior design was quite unique and the service was quite active and the lady did a great job in checking in more frequently. Also, I had one of the best Americano coffee. Don’t forget to order the cheese, which was great and healthy. I liked the way the invoice was written and described. Thanks to the chef and the support team. Will return for breakfast whenever passing from SLT.
Omg 10/5 this place is amazing, the food is Excellent is sooo so cute!! And the people they are cute and friendly.
Excellent breakfast shop and cafe located in Truckee with a variety of delicious omelets, wraps, and skillets for breakfast. Unlike places nearby, there is not an hour wait to be seated here which is great. The food was excellent and their service was nice despite being very busy! The food here for breakfast varied from specialty plates, French toast, kids plates, breakfast burritos, custom omelettes, custom egg and sausage plates, and plenty of coffee. There is definitely something for everyone here. The food quality was excellent. Parking and service were great too. We had no trouble getting a spot and were seated instantly during a busy day. They were very friendly but we did wait a bit to be served due to staffing issues. Otherwise, such a great spot. The location is decorated the American decor and has a lot of personality. I highly recommend this place over other over-hyped locations in the area. Highly worth it for a quality breakfast!
Wish I could give them 10 stars! What a great place! The owners came to our table and started a conversation as if we were family, and we felt like family ❤️ the food was amazing! Service was excellent ( our waitress was very personable and good at her job) and the atmosphere was perfect. They offer half price breakfasts from 5:30ish a.m. to 7:30ish a.m. we will definitely be going back every time we're in this area 🥰 if you are in the area you must come see these folks!
First time here and ordered the Bagel Sandwich. Love the small town feel and friendly staff. Very interesting decor inside!
These guys and gals are outstanding! Superb service and the best biscuits and gravy in the USA bar none! Thank you Wagon Train Coffee Shop; my tummy could not be happier!
The food is top notch, the staff is incredibly on their game, and the portions are HUGE! Seriously, a plate is enough for two. Unless you're going to spend the whole day hiking, then it's the perfect amount. The extra portions have is plenty of energy to burn hiking through the mountains for the test of the day. Loved this place and the decor!
Excellent breakfast, home made Jam. Good coffee, and half price early bird breakfast from 5:30-7:30 AM. Will come back every time I'm in the area. The counter service is excellent along with the conversation. Check the specials board for the meal of the day. The whole wheat bread with butter and home made Jam melts in your mouth.

Big menu with lots of options for all sorts of diets! Great homemade jam! Amazing local friendly service. Patio seating and pet friendly! Service was on it! What a gem!

Wonderful service, excellent food and the best gumbo soup I've ever tasted. It was so good, I took some home with me.
Stopped in on our way back home, and I’m so glad we chose this breakfast spot! Our server (dark hair, glasses—sorry I didn’t catch her name) was fantastic—friendly, genuine, easy to talk to, and made us feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious, service was quick, everything was clean (even the bathrooms!), and to top it all off, it’s dog-friendly for well-behaved pups. We even got to meet the “door greeter”—the cutest, most polite little dog—who came over, laid by my feet, and completely made my day since I couldn’t bring my own pups on this work trip. Thank you for such a wonderful experience! I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the area.
Amazing food and even better people working there, was the breakfast spot every day for me and my friends coming from New Jersey on our ski trip.
It’s rare that I leave reviews even more rare that places like this still exist. Immediately upon entering I felt like I was with family with their hospitality and atmosphere. Amazing classic American breakfast. I’ve never been here before and wow what an incredible first impression from their team that works here, their attentiveness, and love for dogs (Thor thanks you for the pets!). I will absolutely be back here strictly because of how they treat their people and how they treated me like family the moment I walked in. I cannot say enough about the delicious food, their incredibly fluffy pancakes I’ll never be able to duplicate, and the staff here. Highly recommend you come here for breakfast and late brunch. You won’t be disappointed.
Favorite family breakfast in Truckee. Food is very good, nearly everything made from scratch and served hot and fast. Service is pleasant and efficient, not fussy. Highly recommend. It can get busy during weekends and holidays with a bit of a wait, but you won't be disappointed!
Hands down the most comfortable place around. Ladies are amazing, food was amazing. Closest thing to a Jersey diner. Went 4 days in a row. Wouldn’t hesitate to go.
I've been working in Truckee and I hate eating out. But this place makes food like it's home cooked. If you eat here early between 5:30am-7:00 you a discount on your food. I highly recommend getting the gumbo as a side. I've been telling all of my coworkers about this place. They tried it and they loved it. You won't be disappointed if you do.

I was disappointed that my hot chocolate was not "hot." It was delicious, just the same, and I did not mention that it was lukewarm. I had the French toast with two eggs over easy, with bacon. It was good. When I asked for Cinnamon for my French toast, it was immediately brought to me. My partner had an Omelette with a bagel and cream cheese. He ate it all, so it must have been good.
I dropped in in the morning for a quick breakfast. Honestly, my first impression was bad. I waited at counter for at least 2 minutes while I watched the server chatting with two CHP officers without even looking around. She was the only server in the café. I was pretty annoyed. She took my order amd ended up being pretty pleasant so ended up a positive experience but still not the first impression I should have gotten. They need to do better. I would stop in again but still....
Quaint, old school, small and very busy all wrapped in one. Referred by friends, the food was delicious (real bacon) & didn't disappoint. Our waitress really made it much more enjoyable by her warmth and hospitality. Absolutely, we will be back, Downtown Truckee isn't too large - and this is a stand out place to visit.
A good breakfast dining stop that I do wish had more fruit selections. Other than that, it was a terrific early morning downtown stop to sit down, eat and look at the wall decor and out the window. It opens bright and early and it is nested in the pine dominated valley of Truckee. Them having pineapple is too good to be true.☕🍓🌲🍴🍳
Waitresses are very welcoming and service was fairly quick. We had Fish and chips and hot turkey sandwich. Food was good. Laid back atmosphere indoors and covered patio out front.

Disappointed After 30 Years of Visits I’ve been coming to Wagon Train Coffee Shop for over 30 years, but unfortunately, this last visit may be my last—unless I’m truly out of options again. We stopped in with three dads and two toddlers after finding Donner Lake Kitchen closed and Squeeze In too busy. I was hoping it would be a solid fallback, but the food just didn’t deliver. Everything we ordered felt heavy, bland, and unhealthy. Honestly, it reminded me of eating at a Denny’s—but at a higher price point. The total came to around $100 (before tip), which felt steep for what we got. On the bright side, our waitress was fantastic—super friendly and attentive—and the quirky decorations inside are still a highlight. But good service and fun decor can only carry a place so far. If Wagon Train wants to stay relevant, especially to folks bringing out-of-town guests or trying to eat a little better, they really need to add healthier options to the menu. Something like bagel and lox, avocado toast, oatmeal—anything lighter or fresher—would make a big difference. And frankly, the current offerings could use a quality upgrade across the board. Hoping to see some changes in the future. This place has history, but it needs to evolve.

November 26, 2025. We had the pleasure of going to this restaurant as soon as we walk in the two white waitresses roll their eyes at us. We’re black after that we went to sit down we waited for a while then one of the waitress with the black hair came over very rude. She was just obnoxious and it was my granddaughter‘s birthday. This is how we started it off. She took our order which, she made it very difficult. We finally got our food, which was terrible. We asked her for certain things like silverware butter, and that was a problem. Every time we asked her for something she rolled her eyes at us. Like we were asking her too much. We got our bill which was $300.00 and something dollars. We asked her to separate the bill, because we couldn’t understand it. She wrote it with a blue marker. I don’t even We couldn’t even understand what it was saying. To separate the bill .So we just went ahead and paid it. And then she charged my daughter $50 extra on her card. So she basically stole $50 from us. I do not recommend this restaurant if those two waitress are gonna be there. And if you’re black! 'Cause they have a problem with Black people! We have just as much money as anyone else and you don’t have to steal from us. If you had gave us good service. I would’ve tipped you a $100. You didn’t have to steal $50 from us and you overcharged us. Because we looked at the menu prices. After we got home and it not even close to $300.00. So sad if you do not want to serve Black people, please put a sign up like the old days. So we will that we are not welcome. I don’t ever want to go somewhere that my family and I are not accepted.
